Will Xperia U be migrated Android Kitkat 4.4? - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Dear all,
I'm from Vienam and it's 11:40 PM. Good night everyone.
I get an article (http://sonyviet.vn/2013/09/hang-loa...g-cap-len-android-4-4-co-ca-dong-xperia-2012/) about almost Xperia 2012 version will be updated to Kitkat 4.4 (althought before that, 4.1 will not be available for my Xperia U - 2012 Xperia).
Do you have any update about this infomation, plz update...
Thanks for your attention.

Officially I don't think sony would provide Kitkat 4.4 for Xperia U users...
But may be our powerful XDA Dev team may port it for us.

U r right friend... I hope xda developer's would crack it out...

Hope so,
We are waiting for reply from Sony Officially in October, 2013.

This news is fake
Xperia U won't get any further Android update...For others probably will...
And no 4.1.2 update for Xperia U too.

I see only users posting this about KitKat with an XU and no one thinks about XP:/
XP will get it i hope because it have a good ram and enough space, XU dont have that:laugh:

War never finds answer. It just the stronger ones define the victory.

Hope someone can crack for us

XU only have 380m ram, this is the biggest problem...

is there any 4.2, 4.3 android for XU working 100% without any issues. i think all are the ports from other devices. 4.4 is a long run. First we need a full stable 4.1 or 4.2 which could run like ICS or GB. At least its good to seen developers here helping to get the Device to run in the race or Andriod otherwise it is a left behind device by sony developers long ago and their faces look like this

I have high doubts sony upgrading their older models to kitkat

They won't

Jelly Bean for Xperia P, U, Sola & Go Discussion

Figured we should have an official JB thread on this forum.
Till now there has been no word from Sony on Jelly Bean for our devices. Your thoughts ?
Please read this before posting stuff unrelated to topic:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=39592911&postcount=1774
I think that JB is not comming this year, since Sony just recently released ICS, and not for all devices yet (mine, Xperia U, will come only on September)... So only on 2013... Sad though.
Sony may suprise us.

Indeed. It's really down to device drivers. Now Sony are using their own inhouse stuff, (Thor chipset), it may happen quicker. Also ICS is not that different from Jellybean (unlike Gingerbread -> ICS).
I would say it's a safe bet to see ICS on at least the Xperia S before the end of the year.
Even more-so given Sony's intent to up their game in the mobile market. If they truely want to be king of the hill, they need great hardware (which I believe they are now doing), AND great software delivered on time. (still W.I.P)

[Info] [Sola] Xperia S ICS ported to Sola

A big hello to all fellow Sola users and all our great developers! Yeah, that's right, a great guy, Gabriel Stevan, has already ported Xperia S ICS to our Sola. I found him on Antutu where I saw his Sola running ICS and scoring around some whopping 6k @ 810MHz and around 7k @ 1.6GHz :-o I connected with him on Facebook and he told me that he had ported ICS but was unable to upload it due to poor internet speeds I'm sure many of you would love to have it but it is totally up to him. I don't know if he is here on XDA or not but it was a wonderful news so I couldn't resist sharing it with you all.
However, with the official update nearby, getting a ported firmware hardly makes sense but I sincerely do think that we must applaud his great work.
If he is on XDA, I'd like him to reply too.
Thanks

I think you're right :good::laugh:
Sharing my thoughts on this alleged port, which would be great if true.
Well, I don't know the size of sola roms, but if the ROM is 200MB, and let's say he has a 64 kb ISDN connection or whatever, the upload would take about 7 hours. That ROM would finish uploading while he is at work/school one day. So if he managed to download all the framework, source and tools to make this happen (which would take about 15-24 hours I guess, in this case), he would also be proud and eager enough to share his work by uploading it.
I tink we're talking proof or gtfo here.
It would be possible to almost clean port an Xperia P build to the U, because hardware wise theh are mostly the same, apart from the RAM in the P.

That's a shame, FXP is just focusing on 2012 devices, but 2012 devices still get official updates from sony, sony even ported aosp to xperia S so why worring about them?.
We need a developer like nAa, who managed to port a fully working cm7 and cm9 to the x10mini/pro and x8, he is now working on cm10 (minicm10), which runs jb almost as smooth as gingerbread in first generation devices!
We need you nAa!!

Hi,
I understand your frustration. Believe me when I say we have really tried this. One difference of Xperia U and Xperia go is the screen resolution. This comes into play when in relation to RAM in the device. Xperia J is on another platform and Xperia E has the same resolution as Xperia go.
In the tests we made we felt that the user experience wasn’t good enough with Jelly Bean in relations to the few new features in that upgrade on some of the phones.
So there is a pattern in the update strategy. I’m truly sorry if this makes you like Sony a little bit less.

Certain phones will skip a version if they are slow getting updates and the phone can handle the update. An example is the developer edition HTC One which is on 4.1 and getting skipped to 4.3.
However, my main point is that the only phones listed which will get the 4.4 update are the newer devices. Things like the S2 or Xperia U will not get those updates because they either can't handle the update or the manufacturer just doesn't want to upgrade them that far.

What was the XU's latest official update? Was it 4.1.2 or 4.2?
Either way it would still need to go to 4.3 so that Sony could know the device could have enough power to be able to run the update smoothly and efficiently.

Just because it's developed to be able to perform "well" on 512mb RAM devices, it doesn't mean that all devices with 512mb RAM will get the update. Only those which the manufacturer's chose will get the update. Sony are obviously going to focus on their newer devices (just like any other OEM) because they know that the newer phones are better equipped to have the update.

That Facebook page is a fan page, hence all the information there are NOT RELIABLE. Xperia U already reached EOL, and will not receive anymore updates.

I think it's a fake...
First it's a fan page just for Android kitkat so it's not official
And, why Sony would release the last version of Android, 3 version after ICS, for a 2years old aged device, who is no more in sell on their Web page?

What was the XU's latest official update? Was it 4.1.2 or 4.2?
Either way it would still need to go to 4.3 so that Sony could know the device could have enough power to be able to run the update smoothly and efficiently.
Just because it's developed to be able to perform "well" on 512mb RAM devices, it doesn't mean that all devices with 512mb RAM will get the update. Only those which the manufacturer's chose will get the update. Sony are obviously going to focus on their newer devices (just like any other OEM) because they know that the newer phones are better equipped to have the update.
