Copy files & folders between 2 devices - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What is the easiest way to copy files and folder between two android devices (via wireless)?
I tried ssh but have not been successful yet. I only get access denied or folder does not exist.
Currently I try to copy my music folder from my old Nexus One to my new Nexus 4. (my N4 is not rooted and I would not want it if not really necessary)
But I also have a tablet that I like to exchange files with my other devices.
edit: I only talk about local copying, not using an online storage as that would be impractical due to the size and speed of my line.

How to manually export/move/save stock browser's bookmarks

Hello,
I wanted to find a way to manually save my bookmarks and share them between my 3 android devices. I am using the stock browser on all 3 so I figured there should be an easy way to do this.
*** NOTE ***
For those of you who are new to Android tweaking and new to the G Tablet you will be required to root your tablet if you have not already done so. You will want to download and use RootExplorer to copy and move files around because these files do reside in an area that requires root access.
There are 3 files that you want to save; the files are located in the root of your device. The path to the files would look like this:
/data/data/com.android.browser/databases
and the 3 files you will find in that directory are:
browser.db (I expect this is the db that holds your bookmarks)
webview.db
webviewCache.db
I copied these files up to dropbox, then I fired up the other tablet and downloaded those files from dropbox. I then used RootExplorer to move the files from the dropbox folder on my SDCard to /data/data/com.android.browser/databases.
I then started my stock browser; looked at my saved bookmarks and everything was there!
I realize that you can backup and restore via Titanium Backup; however this is just a manual way to export and import your stock browser bookmarks if you ever need to do so.
Hope you find this useful!

[Q] Is there any way 2 get rid of the unused app folders apps leave behind?

I have a ton of folders on SD card and some places on my phone's internal storage that I want to know how to delete, bottom line is some of them are important folders that may be required by the system - some contain downloaded data from games and what not - such as The Sims Freeplay - that range in sizes from 400MB to 900MB.
I'm running on a stock phone, HAS NEVER BEEN ROOTED, DO NOT WANT TO ROOT THIS PHONE TO GET RID OF THESE - is there any ways to do this without rooting the phone?
Any help is appreciated
SDCard folder deletion
Hi,
As everyone gets to read/write on the sdcard you should be able to delete everything on the card.
Since you are unsure if the files are still needed, I'd suggest you back them up, delete them and put them back on the card if you run into problems.
Take a look at the files timestamps to identify old and probably unused files.
As for deleting stuff, I see several ways to accomplish that:
transfer files via USB mode
use a file manager from the market and just click your way through
use ADB from the android SDK, this will open a shell and you can use all the unix commands you want. You'll also have access to 'adb push' and 'adb pull' to transfer files.
Astro file manager .

You can probably just delete the files using a file manager. It's tedious though.

[Q] how to access hidden folder on Android (4.3) / recover lost files on Nexus 7

Hi,
I have lost a few pdfs which I have been reading for weeks (!) on my Nexus 7 (Android 4.3). Via the reading history of my pdf reader (Moon+ reader) I can see that at least one file is still present in the cache under the following folder address: /data/data/com.google.android.apps.docs/cache/filecache2/c042587322c4a438463efbd2cc533cbf/mypdf1.pdf
How can I access this folder? When accessing the device via the Android File Transfer sofware for Mac, I don't see this folder. I have access to Android/data/com.google.android.apps.docs/files, but this folder contains no files but only another folder (called "pinned_doc_files_not_for_edit") which is also empty.
The lost pdf is still there, I can open it in the reader via the reading history, but I would like to access the folder to see whether other lost files (which are not in the reading history) are also still present. To be clear, the file which I can open is also not detected when searching the device for pdfs.
Any help on this issue would be very much appreciated. I put weeks of work into these pdfs (annotating etc), but for reasons beyond my understanding, they disappeared.
I have no significant experience working with Android (apart from being a user).
Many thanks!
z
Try any other file browser like

[Q] adb can't open my files even though they are in the right folder

Hello,
I have installed ADB and the whole Android SDK to root my asus transformer infinity (tf700t). I have taken all the steps every forum on the web describes: installing everything trough the manager, adjusting the path in the System Variables, and finally it getting it to work together with my tablet. However, when I try to flash/copy/install files from my folder (yes these files are in the same folder as adb.exe and fastboot.exe, which is the folder I used in the System Variables) It can't either find these files or it cannot open these files.
When i put in the command 'path' however. I does give me the path where the files can be found.
Does anyone know where the problem may be?
Help would be much appreciated.

Try again and this time copy and paste full input/output from terminal/cmd here

ADB functions clarification and usage for data transfer/backup on an image disk

Hello xda-developers,
I'm trying to figure out the proper way to transfer app data from an Android image disk. I'm very new to this, so I hope I'm not missing something basic.
Situation. I have a .img disk image file obtained from a .vmdk file via a virtualbox conversion , the latter being created by an Android emulator. I'm trying to recover some app data and transfer that to a new, working, .img disk. The emulator works on Android 4.4.2, if that matters.
What I did. I extracted apks and copied app data folders (com.<devname>.<appname>) from/to the /data/data directory. I did that using a file manager (ES file explorer) or via the cp command, as I found in many tutorials and guides. Others suggested to copy those folders to /Android/data instead, so I did try that as well. These procedures were ineffective, because they both messed up with folders and files permissions. Although cp -ar retains folders/files permissions and ownership, that was of no use after the import into the working image. Those operations were performed on Ubuntu 18.04.
The problem (and a workaround). When the apks are installed, a new uid (in the 10000 group) is generated for them. These values are unknown when I import the data folders, hence they are destroyed at phone boot. A log in /data/system/uiderrors.txt confirms this. The only way I could make it work was to install the apk from scratch, open the app so that the new data folders are created with a proper uid, replace those folders with old ones and manually change ownership and permissions accordingly (for every apk). This turned out to be effective but it's a very tedious and error-prone process.
What am I doing wrong? How do ADB push, pull and backup commands manage folders permissions/ownership and app uids? Could they be useful in my situation? If so, how can I use them on a .img file?
Thank you.
