I just keep liking my decision to get the XZU (C6833) as opposed to a Note3 more and more everyday. First was the reported use of PenTile on the Note3 now this--
Note3 will be unable to Region Roam (USA to Europe to Asia)

Sony has a real opportunity here to grab some market share... Now if they can keep the updates moving forward to fix the little things and add a bit more functionality here and there...
LP
Wow...
How on earth are Samsung gonna spin this one?
It will be difficult to recover lost faith and trust, because it is apparent (to anyone with a brain) that this is nothing to do with telco, but all about Samsung's greed to maximise profit by price discrimination according to regions.
For loyal customers to be kept in the dark with information kept secret (to gather pre-orders and commitments), and to find out via sticker on the box?
Samsung and ethics seem to be oil and water...Samsung vs. Apple, Samsung paying trollers...negative ad campaigns against others...
Really, which other hardware manufacturer has received so much negative spotlight outside of product evaluation?
Bravo, Samsung. I'm sure that business men who travels 200 days a year will be really happy. You know how to make people feel special.

Well even negative buzz is still a buzz.
Still seeing this I'll admit Sony "make.believe" I've chosen well

It only show that the S4 wasn't a mistake but the way Samsung handle they phone now. Anyway it make me remember of 10 years ago when my boss told me to sell Samsung devices (not phone), after 10 minutes of test I told him that I too much care about my customers for selling them something like that.

This is why there is so much misery on this small planet:
NOBODY reads the FULLY story (even not "tech journalists) ")
Samsungs blocks the SIM ONLY ON VERY FIRST setup!
Once primary setup is completed You can put in any worldwide sim-card!
This is to prevent Grey imports across the world....
ZU is the best phone I ever had (together with my Z1) but still Samsung has nice devices too. No need to blame them for "religious" reasons, Sony does not need "disciples" like Apple with their crapphones selling over expensive devices with very little functionality (I KNOW what I am speaking of since my neighboring always pop out their eyes when they see what I can do with my ZU that they can't with their goldish 5s' )

Your right, there was an update to the original information. But here's the gist... When I buy an unlocked phone, I'm gonna want a phone that's unlocked period. This B.S. with the first sim you put in it... Well I don't really want to find out it's locked when I really need it on a business trip. The point is moot on this board, as we don't have to worry if a sim will work in our XZU's if it supports the freq it'll probably work.

One big problem can be added, what if I restore the phone with Odin? Factory reset? Send it back to Samsung for repair? Will I need a Sim from the original country for unlock it?
When I see how many times I restored, flashed with Flashtool and repair with PCC my XZU. Would put doubt on what if now living in Vietnam, buy the phone then go back to my home country and need to restore it? And why should I buy a phone 600€ over in Europe when I can get it for 450€.
Got the same problem with a Xbox from France can't read games from Asia due to zone. 2 choice: buy a new one or hack it. Those kind of restrictions only push to do the bad choice. And I personally hate that manufacturer make like if even after you buy the device it does not belong to you but belong to the manufacturer.

Bad bad news for Verizon and Motorola , though not unexpected knowing both of their desire to screw the customer.
"Motorola has installed a “root checker” on its Verizon devices that run Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0), including the Droid RAZR, RAZR MAXX, and Droid 4. Apparently it will also be built in to the ICS OTA for the Droid Bionic once it rolls out."
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Motorola-installing-root-checker-on-Verizon-ICS-devices_id33754
That means if you ever root, you have forever broken your warranty...
This is both understandable and annoying. Mainly depending on what they are using it for. If they are in fact using it to say "You are rooted so your warranty is gone" then yeah, thats stupid. Even if your warranty is void by rooting, it should still cover physical damage IMO. I agree that they shouldnt have to replace someones device if they rooted and flashed stuff to their phone, messing it up in the process and expect to get a new phone. I dont know. I understand it. There are a lot of people who flash stuff that shouldnt be. I agree that we should be able to do what we want with the devices we buy which is why I hate locked down devices. But I dont believe in manufacturers/carriers having to replace something we messed up ourselves. At least they are making future devices unlockable.
I am pretty sure they have this on the samsung s3 as well. There's already a way around it and ways to block it.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
@jsgraphicart that's a great point, they should respect the intelligence if the owners. My guess is that this will come along with the unlock able bootloader on future devices. This is the "catch". Another question I have is if they or a carrier are going to sell a refurbished device that has been rooted once are they going to reset it or undo it? That could open up a whole new list of discussions such as would the refurbished device still be under some kind of restriction or scrutiny of being replaced/serviced? If this could be reversed by moto/vzw it could probably also be hacked.

IF Verizon were going to give you the benefit of the doubt they wouldn't bother to install this stuff in the first place, Did you read the article? They already have in your agreement the right to refuse you warranty service and other services if your modify your equipment, this just gives them a legal way to nail you.
Verizon has their sights set on locking down your phone so they control all the extras and media and tethering etc. So they can charge you an extra $10 for ever little feature that you currently love for free. Count on it. AT&T is already using access to Facetime as a pry bar to force existing customers onto the shared data plans and off the unlimited plans.
Expect Verizon to follow this scheme. It's in line with their predatory business practices of getting you hooked on a service then locking it and charging extra to get it back.
Yeah maybe hackers will find a way to render it harmless, but our freakin bootloader is still locked , so maybe not.
I think this is no big deal, so long as they don't refuse cell service to people with rooted devices (I think that would be illegal). We all know our warranty is technically void when we root. Who knows, perhaps this will finally allow Verizon to unlock motor devices as now they have a way of denying technical support to those who have rooted their phone, which is supposedly why they don't want unlocked boot loaders in the first place.
Sent from my MB870 using xda app-developers app
If verizon wants to limit rooting they need to get their crap together and role out updates in a timely manner. Once they have the code from the manufacturer they should be able to push it within weeks..... Not 6 months later. I have a galaxy s3 and I am not waiting 6 months for those idiots to release jelly bean.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
I would be totally cool with this, BUT whats the point of still locking down the bootloader. Removing the warranty pretty much voids any reason (legitish reason, they make up) they have left for locking down our phones. I'm starting to think they're all just a bunch of masochists, why else would they spend so much time and effort just to take away the only option we have of fully enjoying our hardware, which is the ability to do the more important development they should be spending time on. It's to watch us squirm as we as we struggle to get past such pointless roadblocks, and get their jollys from it.
Without Rant, basically I think it's fine its the way to go, and a way for them to say well OK you can root and unlock your bootloader, but no more warranty for you, you're on your own. Really make it up to us, make it OUR decision.
With so many awesome devs out there, I think that you should be able to by a unlocked device with nothing on it if u want......let us decide what version of Andy and what kernels we want to use ! Sell it with warranty only for manufacturing issues.

In my opinion, the writing is on the wall and the cell carriers are going in the opposite direction. More locking, tighter control, why? Because they want to charge more and that has always been the method.. Take a full featured phone and cripple key features so they can charge extra for each piece. Verizon and AT&T have always been the worst offenders in this bait and switch scheme.

Probably not. Look at some of the phones already out on the market. My Samsung Stratosphere had one. There was/is no way to reset it and no USB jig meaning we were hit. Doesn't matter if you went to stock or not. You could always tell it had been rooted and had flashed custom firmware on it. NO workarounds. The way Motorola and Verizon conduct their business I seriously wouldn't be surprised if that whole root checker is completely locked down. I guess only time will tell however.

You don't get warranties for software f stuff if you rooted of course, but if the screen starts lifting up on it, how is that software? That should still be under warranty, but vzw says I'd toy rooted, screen lift is YOUR problem. Stupid....

Yup, on indiegogo.com you can choose "flexible funding" which means that even if just a few people purchase then they still get the goods or if its another type of project then it helps someway to give the creator something than nothing.... IG takes a much higher cut to stop people going too made with flex funding..
llepen said in the beginning of the year that MediaTek would have KK ready in April, today he wrote KKin July. So MediaTek schedule has slipped too.
AI Watch is not released yet...
It'll be same story again, just like TS and Omate...
It's great to develop and to support developers and new projects but I won't pay a penny or support with a cent those kinds of project.
It's clearly only for taking money and sending Chinese, plastic crap (no offend, sorry) that has been produced two years ago...
LLP is the one that made me think and learned me not to trust founding campaign ever again...
I'll have to pay around 400$ for TS!!!???!!!
234$ is TS and everything else is for fine and customs...
That piece of plastic didn't cost more than 20$ in real world...
But hat down to LLP - greqt way to steal 1 million dollars.
You buy 5000 watches from Chinese company.
You hire three persons...
One kid who will adapt clean version of Android for device.
It's not important if anything works, it's only important that device can boot.
Second - one Mrs to pack them and send.
Third person is just for fun, your friend who'll travel with you and spend money...
Your total cost is around 100 000 $ so it's very easy to see how much money LLP stole from us...
There's no update, there will never be update...
What do you think, why all devs abandoned TS?
TS will never have iPhone support and even if they built KK for it, it'll be something very bad and something unfinished and not stabile...
It's sad that this kind of fraud is OK by KS standard, very sad...

I think your maths and sums might be off. I'm pretty sure production costs weren't factored in there. Not saying it'd be close to 100000 but I'm sure it would be more than that especially when you consider the testing and the broken/failed units. Who knows though!

Mate, they sold us old, "already in manufacturing" devices.
There's no testing, drawing or anything else...
That's the problem...
They said they will bring something new but they gave us crappie old watch, nothing new...with awful firmware.
That firmware will kill you battery in 30 days, no companion support, no iPhone support, old bare and plain android 4.2.2 and no sources...
All devs left because of those reasons, they don't want to be part of that scam...
I said 100000$ but that's not important...
What's important is that we have something that isn't even close to advertised device...
It's no 1.3gzh, it's not 5mox camera, there's no update, there's no swimming with it (remember first KS video?) that was the reason many users pladged - take your watch to places you never take your smartphone....
Where is that?
I have Z1 and rain isn't problem with it...
All I'm saying is - that's not something I would support if I knew things I know now...
If you are satisfied with it, that's great...
I know I'm not...and I still don't have it...
To be honest I don't even want it...
I said, I'll probably sell it, - that's the most likely scenario...
Sent from my C6903 using Tapatalk
You'll be happy when you have it but yeah the lack of support and crappy ostore etc are kinda of downers. Out of the box after putting Loki's patch (so grateful for that) it does what I want. I bought mine as something to use for running and my Note 2 is way too big for that. This serves it's purpose but for something that actually works as a companion etc you're right it doesn't seem to be doing what I want. Annoyingly the Moto 360 might be the one to wait for but as far as I know it's not standalone and is likely to cost over £300. However with this thing costing me £140 it's still a great deal as a fitbit or withins pulse is around £100 as it is.
When you see things like the AI watch and a few others, the TS looks positively elegant, there isn't actually anything like it, even the X201's are quite techy looking... TBH what the TS does do, it does it fairly well, it's just having the time to get the user experiences right.....

Makes absolutely no sense.
Of course it does you think people are gojg to purchase note 7 full price after a massive recal for a major safety issue like going up in flames. No way some incentives are needed to get people back. You will see.
Makes no sense, this also goes to show whats wrong with this generation of entitlement. Samsung does not owe us any type of compensation for what has happened with the Note 7. Stuff happens. If they just so happen to feel generous then so be it but other than that be happy with your phone or go else ware.
hey, think, think, you really believe samsung is going to sell note 7 a the price of a second rate device? come on, be serious
We will see ......I like Samsung and I wiill get one no matter what, I have s Note 3 now but lets face Note 7 for the mass consumer its pretty much dead. It blows up dude that is not jst an antenna problem. It will take a pretty heavy dutty propaganda campaign to turn the tide on this one. Samsung will offer incentives how much its any ones guess but right now you can get cases etc for it at a pretty low price. Check Amazon.

The Note 7 recall could change how the public sees Samsung smartphones, and that is arguably the biggest challenge that the company is facing right now.

I disagree.
They have put consumers in danger and for some caused injuries and damage. I would say that goes beyond "stuff happens".
For others whose devices have not exploded (like mine) it has certainly cause differing levels of stress and nervousness having the device not knowing if or when it will pop. Im a pretty chill guy but Id be lying if I said it didnt worry me at this point when i charge device. And this whole ordeal has changed how I use my device day to day which is not acceptable.
Then there is samsung asking for everyone to power down the devices and use what exactly in place of it? Not everyone is fortunate to have multiple devices lying around.
Then there is the train wreck of a recall...ive signed up for it and called numerous times and none of the CSRs knows anything and all give different answers which then causes more stress and uneasiness as you have no clue whats going on and clearly neither do they.
Oh and they expect us to drive and drop the defective devices off at drop points. Easy enough for some not for others...me personally im not lifting a finger to drop my old one off anywhere...i have better things to do. You want it...come and pick it up...you screwed it up in the first place.
Then theres the issue of going on an airplane with it...not even going to go there.
Oh yeah.. what about those of us who spent $50+ for ghost armour or similiar things front and back? Of course i have to pay for it AGAIN when i get my new device...whenever the hell that may be. Thats also not acceptable, samsung should be paying for it.
So yeah....your damn straight they owe us, the people who pre ordered and do so every single year and buy multiple samsung devices each year for many years all outright. And in the Note 7s case If I pay $1200 for a device i damn sure do not expect it to blow up in my face...literally
I am the least self entitled person and anyone here who knows me knows thats true but im this case yes I am expecting compensation from samsung for this major screw up.
Stuff happens this is true, but if it was that minor would the US and CAN governments be involved? Highly unlikely.

This will absolutely change the publics opinion and trust in samsung....to a massive degree.
Its not the recall thats going to cost them its the loss of trust from the public which equals lost current sales and future sales and in the long run market share. Their market share has already droppef and it will get worse before it gets better.
They will need to bend over backwards with incentives and freebees to get people back to where we were in buying samung products.
This goes well beyond mobile as well...dont think for a second this wont hurt their other areas of interest..TVs,appliances etc

I still think once they fix it it wil be cheaper to get one or there will be great incentives.
Time will tell i am waiting a month or two to upgrade to one once the problems are fix.

I believe the Note 7 its pretty much a done deal. Only people like us that really want the phone will purchase one. Main stream I believe the note 7 missed the station long time ago. On the other hand even died hards like us dont like to give our money away. I have been searching and I will consider something like the moto z force if the price of the Note 7 remains the same. Remember its on a no fly list and will take a while to be removed if ever. Note 7 its a tainted phone untill the day it dies. Its sad but in reality , the bad perception out there will not change.
With the halt of production and carriers stopping to carry does this mean the resale value is up since you just wont be able to buy it anywhere? Will carriers still honor any recalls at any given time does this mean you can keep it for half a year and return it no questions asked since it is heading into a world wide recall ? A buyer basically has nothing to lose.. it is technically the best smartphone out and no screen display and camera is like it meaning people will always want it..
Problem is, why would anyone want to buy a ticking time bomb.
Our current device may work fine now but there's no telling when it will spontaneously combust.
It seems like Samsung is struggling to figure out what exactly is causing the Note 7 to blow up. And now they're lost for words.

People will want what they can't have especially with whats left in the market
My only concern is if they will continue to push OTA updates with the device

There is also a distinct possibility that if they scratch the device completely they could disable all the ones still in use remotely.
They already crippled some of the V1 ones with a 60% battery charge cap and a big annoying warning that pops up every 3 hours who knows what might happen next?
Resale will be complete crap on these devcies...they note 7 has already been marked by one recall...another one? Forget it.
There would be a niche market for die hard sammy fans who likely would pay a premium for a device that your not supposed to have but that would be a very tiny amount of people

Ive been totally anti apple but have even considered giving the 7 plus a go....cant believe i just said that lol

I'd never go Apple, purely because the lack of control over the system would really annoy me.
I'm returning my Note 7 tomorrow to grab a full refund. Will try Oneplus 3 for awhile.

What are your plans ? Im pretty set with a jailbroken iPhone 7 plus .. its as close as you can get to a note 7
an email i received straight from samsung stated that it's actually illegal to re-distribute this phone.. So... No, a huge strikeout.
They referenced to the Canada firearms act or something like that.
I will never go Apple either. Their iOS is far too restrictive. An Android is like carrying a laptop around with you. In fact, I haven't used a Windows laptop or PC for a long time now.
The annoying thing now is, even if I kept the Note 7, I don't expect Samsung to release anymore updates. Hell, if anything, they will cripple it again, with the whole 60% charge nonsense. And at this stage, Nougat is almost definitely out of the question.
Unless Samsung finds a way to integrate the Note 7 features with the S7 Edge, I'd reconsider.

No one will be buying the phone even if you give them for free. Who will want a phone that might explode. I am waiting to see what Telus does right now. Hopefully they will allow us to change to any model. But my bet is they will only let you change to a S7 Edge or S7. If they allow then i might go for iPhone for now. Can't really decide what to get.

Lol personally wasn't feeling the phone when I played with it. Maybe the one iplayed with was bad but it had this annoying rocking motion that was driving me crazy. Press down the home button... The phone will rock. Store user said I just have to touch it... That didn't work. If all iPhone 7 are like that will never buy that phone... That rocking motion was driving me crazy

This is Mutiny....MUTINY!!!
Apple is probably giving a promotion and a bonus to the agent they had at Samsung that was in charge of this sabotage operation.
Samsung officially stops Galaxy Note 7 sales globally, urges owners to power down phones http://www.androidcentral.com/samsung-power-down-stop-sales-galaxy-note-7

Just what I found, I am not going to comply just yet, maybe not for awhile. The press has been killing Sammy over all of this, yet lots of folks here at xda and no fires.

Still waiting for the official recall, hoping Samsugn provide a discount or cash back to make this right with consumers. I'm pissed at Sammy though this is some BS.

At this point they need to do something big. Heavy discount on the future N8 or something like it but i dont think they will do anything special. They already lost a lot, they may just risk losing future business with hope people will return

Yeah I think they may do nothing as well, but if they have followed any other famous recalls, going above and beyond to keep customers effected by defective products happy, good a long way. Look at Toyota and Tylenol for passed cases.
If they do the right thing it will make the brand stronger. If they leave 2 million customers out to dry, they will feel the damage to their reputation for years, across multiple product lines not just phones.
If take a discount on an S7e or a future discount on a S8e or a Note8 just something to show they actually care to keep my business.
Yeah, they better do something cause this is embarrassing. To go through another recall... Shesh. The jokes are endless and it's becoming annoying to know that some devices are melting. Makes it uncomfortable to have this device, and I don't want to switch! This phone is too good.
Because I love the device SO much, I was not listening too much around the replacements having issues too, but THIS kind of did me in.
"Consumers with either an original Galaxy Note7 or replacement Galaxy Note7 device should power down and stop using the device and take advantage of the remedies available."

It turns out they made a profit this quarter. Didn't lose much from this. Watch the latest WAN show from LinusTechTips. They talk about it.
