[Q] How to control power off and reset button? - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

The actual main question is the best way to secure xperia z ultra from theft.
Im wondering, How to control power off and reset button?
so if in any case my xperia z ultra is missing, no one can control in any way the device (including power off, reset button, etc.)
i was thinking make the reset button only accept a morse like signal pattern then execute its intended behavior...
if this is done, it would be great!!

Unfortunately with the actual devices and a bit of knowledge all those measures are kinda useless. This phone possess a hard reset button up to the simcard, so can easily turned off and repaired with PCC or SEUS.

But the idea is still useful. Becos thief probably dont understand it. And it takes time and effort to do that....

Really? It was a thief who told me how to unlock my Nokia with an old sim I forgot the code. They do know what they stole. And they won't give it back to you after they stole it.

Remove Emergency Call button

I've looked around but haven't seen anything current on this.
Is there a way to remove th Emergency Call button from the Lockscreens?(pattern, pin)
From what I understand it is a widget and I tried to remove it rendering my phone not able to pass boot up. That was horrible.
So any info on this would be great.
p.s. for GingerTazz
no ideas on how to get this button out of there?
No, not unless there are replacement pattern/pin lockscreen apps, similar to WidgetLocker is a replacement lockscreen, but it doesn't appear to have pattern/pin capabilities.
There's got to be a way to just go into the apk and remove one or two lines of code to make it not appear. I know that's hacky leaving the unneeded code in there, but I don't care I really hate the button.
Anyone know what apk it is?
Probably so hard to remove because the FCC mandates that all phones even ones that aren't activated have to be able to make emergency calls.

How much time do you spend looking at your lock screen anyway?
+1 for this:

It's not the amount of time I spend looking at it, but rather the number of times I have to look at it. Every time I take my phone from my pocket and swipe my pattern or enter my pin I see it, which is . . . a lot.

ROFL! Very well worded and to the point!
I'd even be a little more happy if the emergency button was incorporated into the pin pad like THIS

Xperia p big problem with home button.

My xperia p home button is getting pressed backwards as well. Like if I rest my finger at the back of the home button then it gives feedback wtf? The home button works fine from the front as well. :S
There is no such problem with the back and menu key. What has gone wrong is it a hardware problem? Has anyone else experienced?
The xperia p is just over a month old and this problem only happened recently.

No problems here.

Actually seems like it can happen with any button. Just rub your finger at the back of the transparent strip and eventually a touch will be registered. I have a feeling this is not a hardware flaw but merely a ridiculous design flaw from Sony.
Can I please have more people who can try this? Maybe this was the way it is from the beginning and I just didn't notice it before as this phone hasn't been used much.

Doesnt happen at all for me bro

With me the phone get crazy only when i plug in the charger,
And It's really like Sony's floating touch. :d
I've had a similar problem, exept it wasn't similar at all. I had haptic feedback enabled on the softkeys, but when I pressed a key, it vibrated twice. Doesn't happen in cyanogenmod, though. Sorry if I'm offtopic or something like that, I just feel like typing something (and raising my postcount so that I could post in the development forums).

Interesting.
Anyways it also seems like it happens if you force pressure at the bottom of the phone. I am really let down by this seems like a horrible oversight by sony.

I had this problem, but reboot helped(press and hold both the volume up key and the power key for few seconds).
I have this problem from the beginning. In my phone back button is creqzy. Even if I try not to touch anything, it goes back. When I browse web sometimes it immediately presses 5 times, so im 5 pages back. Its getting worse when phone is warm. Never going to buy sony anymore.

I had to make an account just to reply to this when I was finding solutions on google. A bit late, but yes, i'm having the same problem too. I've only had it for a month as well and i'm starting to get really frustrated. The buttons on the transparent bar automatically 'responses' to itself. Don't know what's the problem. I can't lay my hand or hold it on the back of it either. It gets all 'spazzed' up.

Ya it does seem like a general problem with the xperia P, maybe some devices are more sensitive and some arent. I have just decided to live with it.

If there is no known solution, and you've already decided to live with it, why not buy a case for your xperia p? one that covers the back of the soft buttons. Without being able to touch it from the back, you won't have the problem again, and even forget about it.

I have just been careful these days and it doesnt always trigger the buttons from the back, its just very random. If the problem becomes impossible to live with then yes a cover is the solution.
Been with this phone for a couple of months and its still working fine...

I have two Xperia P (mine and my wife's). My wife has no problems with the phone. I have two months of use there was a problem with the key "Menu" (which is triggered randomly.) But I noticed that if you turn your phone off for a few days, the problem disappears temporarily. Maybe it's a hardware problem with overheating phone? (Sorry for my English, I used google translate )
---------- Post added at 12:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:56 AM ----------
Guys, I blocked "Menu" key and remap the "Focus" (short press on the "Camera") to the menu. So the problem is solved for me.
how did you remap it?
Because I have the same problemm since today.
Everything I tried results into nothing.
I just can't use the home button anymore.
That's really driving me crazy :silly:

(Solved) Xperia U power button problem

So, as the title says hardware problem and there are few things I want to know about. Have anyone got the problem about power button position on the inside is lower than the volume buttons? My bro and me got the same XU and never have problem except this one. My Xperia U has the lowest power button than my brother. If that's my phone's factory fault, can I repair it by disassemble it and settling the buttons back? I got no problem but I have to press hard for power button and there are no pressable home button to wake my device up. My problem is normal or not? Please answer me dear bros. Thanks.
Sent from my ST25i using Tapatalk 2
If you have a guarantee, I'd recommend you take it to the store since its a factory problem. If you don't have a guarantee, there's some apps which let you use the volume buttons to turn the screen on. I don't know the names since I've never used one but I've seen it in here so you can use the search bar to look for them

But it's definitely sure that I have very stupid power button. You're right bro. I should have brought my brother handset, too. Now I'm in anxiety because it's only one week old. Now, I press so hard the power button and it annoys me. Anyway, I thank you so much for helping me out. Now I'll have to wait for answer.

Please, dont use your XZU without a Sim inside.

Reading around... well.. mostly because a premature firmware, but i must say that the device don't seem to work so well used as a "tablet only", like i read on the Sony Forum, like most users report several problems.
The devices stuck on language switching and also, on wifi troubling and random clicking, but i realized that this problems increase if a sim card is not inserted into the device.
You will definitively be not able to set a standard configuration for languages, and network if you do not put a sim card inside the device.
Sure it may interfere with network services and this may look like a device bug, but this is the fact.
You just need to put an operative micro sim inside the device... does not matter if you didnt put any commercial plan inside of it. I suggest just keep enabled to make and receive calls, but the device must be enabled into 2g/3g (you can always disable DATA, inside the menu, to not receive any charge for data transfer.)
This is my experience, if you dont put a micro sim, the device will keep asking you to switch language and also to keep inserting a micro sim card when you startup phone, also you may have problem during boot or during shutdown, and even... during screen lock and unlock procedure, if your device is not registered into a mobile network.
This is my humble opinion and experience, till the actual (buggy) .532 firmware.
I think at the actual firmware state, the device is strongly designed to operate with a microsim inside, without it may react in many crazy ways.
For myself I no longer operating my XZU with a sim inside and I don't have your problem. I set up the phone while I had a sim inside, but now I don't have a sim and doesn't have any problem. Did you plug your phone on PC Companion recently? They did a system files update on .532 and the firmware is really stable now (still have some trouble with backlight and some SOD) but I truly believe it is kernel related. It remind me of my Nexus 7 during the first 6 months, had SOD with stock and none with custom kernels.

yah, once configured is quite stable, but upon a reset, without a sim inside, is a troublemaker and do not store several configurations.
this is my experience.
I tested the unit in Sony Store before I bought it, All basic function works ok !!!

I think this is more because you chose to configure time zone and languages based on the network provider (might be like that as default, can't remember as I didn't do it for a while). So if you are not using any simcard then the phone will annoying you, as any other phone would do. I personally never use this fonction on any of my device, I better like to set all manually.

I have an issue with my phone (0.532) where it keeps asking for the language when I turn it on. I always have a SIM card inside the phone too. Anyone know why this happens?

Which country firmware do you have? I remember it did it on TW firmware, then after changed manually to English on the settings it never comeback. Now i have HK firmware so it doesn't try to put it in chinese anymore.

I used my ultra for 2days without a SIM since i havent got the time to have my regular SIM card cut to the size of the ZUs sim.. (is it micro or mini? Im confused on those lol)
And yes I noticed that whenever the phone reboots, it goes through the setup process.. I think SONY did that on purpose to make it easy to have the unit to be like a DEMO device at the shops.. Get my point? Instead of having the phone reset manually everyday, shop owners would just reboot the phone and its back to zero! At least that's what i noticed on my c6833..
once i passed the setup, i didnt notice any problems with it.. Other than having no mobile connection of course! Lol

@the_laser, there are some poor souls on the Xperia Z who have the same problem by flashing a Sammy recovery to their Z which destroyed their bootloader as well...
They still seem to have some life in their mobile reporting it as a qcom device to windows (reconnecting over and over again), if I send some or one of them over to you by pm, would you be able to help them too?
This is REALLY AWESOME. :highfive:
Call me crazy, but I'm actually a bit excited to see somebody post that they totally recovered their phone to a 100% working state :victory:
And brought to us by 2 guys that aren't even "senior members" yet LOL

I see bootloader files for XZU 6802 and 6806. Would either work for the 6833 international LTE variant ?
I am very interested in trying this - my bricked XZU is already disassembled and I would love to wake it up. And thank you for putting all of this together !
edit: just checked C6802.7z and C6806.7z and they contain an identical file - so guessing C6833 will be the same.
