So the thing is, I'm a big Sony fanboy, don't ask me why, but their devices are looking sexy
I loved those very old Sony mobile phones, before they made this joint venture with Ericsson, which was a disaster to me, because it never realy felt right imo with those two being together.
Sooner or later I also had to jump on the smartphone train, so I knew that when I'm going to buy such a phone, it had to be somehow related to Sony.
I ended up buying the XPERIA Play on it's release date and I (still) love(d) it.
But I never realy connected to this green logo and the name XPERIA ... dunno, sounds childish to me.
So months passed and all out of a sudden Sony announced that they'll buy Ericsson and end this joint venture ... the moment I read those news was probably greater than the day my children will be born (j/k).
After weeks and weeks the plans came through how the new phones will look like and what their name will be.
So Sony said, the upcoming devices won't have this green liquid energy ball (I think that's what the name is) anymore, which was great news for me. But the XPERIA name is going to last ... which was one of those moments for me when I realised that one can't have everything right?
Bottom line: Can anybody of you imagine, when Sony is going to drop this XPERIA name and start a new series of devices? Or did anybody read other news where Sony confirmed that the XPERIA will be gone by 201X ?
There still is a certain bad taste to these deviced imo, one beeing the XPERIA name and second the people behind it, which are still the former Ericsson guys.
For me, Sony should have taken full responsibility for the new devices, or teached those Ericsson people how to design a phone the Sony way. They should have inspired themselfs by looking at the Tablet S/P and named those new devices something like Sony Phone S/U/P/whatever and not XPERIA.
Just my two cents to a simple question
Thanks,
iCEQB
Not anytime soon. There are no news or even discussion regarding it internally either. Sony always have monickers that relate to their devices, and Xperia fits right in, which is why they kept it. They have their Vaio, Alpha, Bravia names already. Xperia doesn't distinct it to be a non-Sony brand at all. You're thinking way too much on this. They've mentioned already that they're going to kill off all the featured phones branding, so they need only 1 name to relate to all their product line. They will just use the sub names like the S, P, U, etc.
FYI, they've already merged the team, so there's no such thing as SE's or Sony's employee anymore. In addition, they've been sharing resource before Sony even bought them.
Also, the design team is also shared between the two companies, so if you're not liking the S, you'll never like future devices, as they are the same design team as before. However, I would like to tell you one thing though, SE's design principle has always been on Sony's line, so switching between the 2 companies' logo would not affect the design value at all. I saw 2H and next year's line up already, and even with SE or Sony's logo, the taste remains the same.
Fanboy or not, IMO, you're really thinking too seriously and way too much on something that shouldn't even be an issue.
Who says that "Xperia" wasn't Sony's idea in the first place?
Lol. Being more happy with the fact sony and ericsson stopped working together than the birthdays of your own children...
If you tell this to the misses you probably end up single again

Haha that was certainly a nice read
Well as unknown13x mentioned already, XPERIA is here to stay. If you have noticed, Sony has renamed Sony Ericsson Twitter and Facebook accounts as SonyXperia and also the new brand theme - "XPERIA - Sony Smartphone" suggests that XPERIA will be the sub brand for Sony phones forever. Just like how Sony used the "Alpha" branding from Konica minolta for its DSLR business and made it their own.
XPERIA stands for the devices line. Just like Vaio, Bravia, Playstation, Galaxy (Sammy), One (HTC), and a infinite more examples...

Today i was reading an article on tech radar about the top 20 smart phones today, the Xperia S made the list but the Acro S didn't and not just that; i am a religious follower of most major tech blogs and sites and i seldom come across anything talking about the Acro S,
this forum also serve as an example, how many threads do you see about the Acro S compared to the S? How many roms, custom kernels, etc?
The only thing i can think of is bad marketing as they both have almost identical hardware except that the Acro is rugged, waterproof and does not suffer from the fail capacitive button or the lack of sd card support which makes it a 100 times better phone, this is a clear example of Sony bad marketing, i mean the better device isn't even popular amongst those loyal to the brand let alone other none Sony users.

that top is not that good ...LG 4x on 6th place???????? wtf ...seriously..
and yeah acro s isn't a " normal " phone like sony...it has splash etc things..maybe that's why they didin't included in their rank.
I stopped reading hi-tech news and blogs a long time ago. Too many biased and fanboyish opinion. Most of those blogs now are either pro-Samsung or pro-Apple. Everything got to compare to the S3/New Iphone. Sony, LG and other smartphones company got smashed to death. So, what's the point?
bad marketing led to bad dev support
its that bad that the well talented and knowledgeable developers with good taste aren't here. compared to what i used to have and get with xperia arc S. people in this xperia 2012 forum doesn't work well with each other. i have posted and created several threads for the betterment of the device, but none or a very few are responding.
hell they don't even care if they a have a slick and good looking quicktoggles that matches the SONY UXP UI, a very few cooperate with software issues like quick camera launch bug and the BRAVIA engine issue for unlocked bootloaders.
several devs from 2012 line up were asking devs from this forum for a little cooperation of porting some goodies, but no one is cooperating.
IF I ONLY HAD THE KNOWLEDGE HOW TO DO ALL THIS, I WILL SPEND ATLEAST A FEW HOURS OF MY FREE TIME TO MAKE THIS GLOOMY FORUM LIVELY.
They don't sell the acro s everywhere, maybe that's why.

The knowledge can be gathered all over the internet. I also do not have the knowledge but the lack of customizations for Acro S lead me to try to tweak stuff myself .. and guess what: it worked .
Now we are getting to the second part of your sentence: free time. What free time ? I wish I had at least 2 hours a day to dedicate on doing new stuff ... but I don't. And looking at the dev. community, there are few devs doing stuff for a lot of devices so I guess they don't have too much time to dedicate to Acro S alone.
So basically we are stuck ... I tried MIUI - no go for me. I them moved to CM .. 9.1 is fine but still has few bugs ... CM10 is not yet ready for daily use. So ... I got stuck with the original sony firmware with some tweaks that I implemented myself and with all the bloatware removed. In the end is a nice and stable device so I don;t complain too much ... I just wish some JB would be made available by Sony (considering that my previous device was a Galaxy Nexus I know what I'm missing).
As for the "badly marketed" part I do not agree. In my opinion Acro S was a test conceived to see how people will adhere to such a phone. Is not the fastest nor the slimmest device on the market and the battery life is sub-par ... but is waterproof. And apparently there is not a lot of people out there willing to trade off slickness for roughness ... and if there is no huge market, so is the advertising/marketing for the product.
And let's not forget. This phone was announced way back, at the beginning of 2012 ... and it was made available in September ... quite a delay I might say. From now on people are concentrating on the new models.
In a way I agree this thing is badly marketed. On August 9 I sent message to sony support center Romania, and they replied me on August 21 saying:
With regards to your inquiry, first of all we would like to apologize for the delay in our answer for your email. We would like to inform you that Xperia Acro S is not available in the Romanian market.

Couple of days later I found out that many mobile phone vendors here in Romania already sell this item.
not yet released in india where defy rules and it could be a great success, if they had released it in india poor marketing ..............

The Acro S has the same cpu, gpu, ram, camera as the Xperia S. The same amazing display with the highest pixel density in the entire market and it supports SD cards up to 64 gigs while the S can't support SD at all, now since you mentioned the battery, Acro S has a 1910 mAh battery, the S 1750 mAh battery.
Add to that the fact that it's waterproof, dust proof and that it can take a beating and that it does not suffer from the buttons failing problem in the S and you got a phone that is superior in every single way, yet today people still go buy the S while the Acro sits next to it on the shelf, why? Terrible marketing, do you think anyone who knows what i just wrote will still buy an S?
The only place where the Acro have been properly promoted was in Japan and it was a massive hit, dude who wouldn't take a waterproof rugged phone that can dive and offer specs better than the flagship device?, and i am talking mainly about the japanese versions of the Acro that got released way before the Acro S when the Xperia S was still Sony's flagship.

Currently I own an iPhone 5s. Love the thing all around, but android has a spot in my heart as being the first smartphone to own. I wanted the Necus 5, but after reading up on the Xperia Z1/2, I want one of these a lot more. Now I'm with t-mobile on the jump program, but my iPhone is about 60% paid off. I have a few questions here.
•Tmobile has the Xperia Z and Zs. I've read this was mistaken to be the Z2, but then I read the specs were slightly off. The Z2 being a little bit better, but not hundreds of dollars more. If I could I want the Z2, but it looks like the only way to get it is to buy the unlocked international version for the full $600, right?
•With that in mind for anyone who has made the switch from i5 to this phone or one of the too android phones have you regretted it all. I don't want to get the feeling of wishing I had my i5 back or paid it off first. Lol
•Speaking on the Z1s if any of you have one or have fooled with one, how much different is it than the Z2? If it's not noticeable then I wouldn't mind barring the jump plan and getting ahold of the Xperia Z that way. Oh and yes, I will be rooting, customizing and all things of the sort. It's why I love android so I have to do that. Wait, are there plenty of mods and stuff for both the Xperia or is it limited? I know my nexus 4 had a lot.
If you will buy a Sony phone, Z2 is the best and only choice as of now. The only Sony phone better than Z2 is Xperia C with its huge battery life but that's about it. T2 Ultra battery life is also good but it's too big for me. In spite of what people say, there is a big enough difference with Z1 and Z2 but if you already bought the Z1, then no need to upgrade unless you have extra cash. Z2 to Z3 might even have a smaller difference unless Sony puts their A game and surprises us with Z3.
If you're coming from Z, it's really worth upgrading to Z2 because it fixed all the flaws of Z even though the design of Z is a little better than Z2 for me.

I was referring to the Z1s though, not just the Z1. It seems to be what Tmobile got instead of the Z2, which is in other countries.
I have an iPhone 5, which is not really that different to the 5s. I jumped ship a while ago.
This is not the first time I tried to switch to android. I hated android before on Motorola milestone and galaxy s3, but I have to say I'm really loving this phone. Sure, at the beginning I kinda missed my iphone as I wasn't really used to it. After I got everything going, this phone has been great. I especially love the noise cancelling. (without it I wouldn't have purchased it at the first place) it works just as well as those dedicated noise cancelling headphones, in my opinion.
The only things I miss on my iPhone right are the smaller screen, imessage and iTunes. Big screen is not really my thing... 4.5-4.7 inch would have been perfect.
Every phone has its pros and cons. Long story short, I don't regret switching to it at all.

There isn't much difference between Z1 and Z1s so Z2 is still the better phone. Z1 should have been the Z2 if Sony didn't skimped on the specs. Sony could have stopped Samsung's momentum last year. But still a job well done for Z2. If you have a friend that has a Z2, try feeling it because it's really hard to judge the phone without seeing it personally.
Greetings XDA! ,
I'm currently rocking a Nexus 4, for which my contract ends really soon.
So the Sony Xperia Z2 has been high on my list, yet it seems the Sony Xperia Z3 is around the corner. I'm not surprised about this, because I know full hand that Sony is on a 6 month upgrade cycle.
Personally I dig the design of the Z2 a lot more, and will definitely go with the Z2. I do have a couple of little questions about the Z2.
- Is the overheating issue ''that bad''? I've been reading about not being able to record for long when in 4K recording mode.
- What are the chances of the glass cracking on the back because with the heating issue? I've been really careful with my LG Nexus 4, and even have a bumper case around it, yet it still cracked. I didn't let the phone fall and think it was caused by the phone becoming really hot.
- How are Android updates? Will the Xperia Z2 receive Android 4.4.4 or Android L?
- Will the Sony Xperia Z2 receive most of the Z3 software features? Things like the updated Sony UI (which seems to be based of the Google Experience Launcher).
That's all. I can't wait to hear what XDA has to say . Go ahead with you're own impressions about the phone, because who knows!

-heating: yes and no, i face little heating issues with my Z2, it gets warm occasionaly and 4k just cant reach past 31 minutes before closing the camera to cool down
-the self cracking glass seems to be a myth it seems and the device its self is tough, i dropped it on may things like a clumbsy nut... and its to be honnest, visibly fine.. it feels fine tooo
- updates, the device will recieve updates if needed for 18 months after release, this is often stretched out by a extra year sometimes (12 months left on update plan)(android 5.0 Lemon or L is likely to come and so is 4.4.4)
- as usual Xperias will always take on the current UI that being Z3 ui , z2 should recieve this new UI soon to come along with many other xperias which are currently updated
Conclusion: device is amazing in my opinion but ealier batch models are alot more faulty then any other versions due to some huge manufacturing issue they had, so if you get a fauly device just contact sony repair centre as the xperia international 2 year warrenty will cover you and will give you entitlement to free repair or replacement

Most other devices that support 4k video restrict recording to around 5 mins, people who use 4k video can better that before the thermal cutoff so you are in a better position than users of similar devices.

Hardware is near identical so I don't see any reason why all the z3 software features won't reach the z2.
My current contract ends in February. What would the best choice be, getting a Z2 or Z3?
It's still 4/5 months away, but if we take the current prices then it will look like this:
Sony Xperia Z2: 150 call & 1GB internet for 35 euros, the phone will be free.
Sony Xperia Z3: 150 call & 1GB internet for 35 euros, the phone will cost a additional 149 euros.
Another thing I'm wondering is the Z2 vs Z3 screen brightness. Comparing both to my Nexus 4, they both looks better. Comparing the Z2 and Z3 and most say the Z3 is brighter.
Besides the point but wow those deals suck, I got £27.99 for 600 mins, unlimited data / texts with a free phone (plus £30 cashback) on the Z2.
I don't see the Z3 as worth €149, for what are essentially software tweaks.

My guess, and just a guess with no facts to back it up with, late April early May. VZW is always slow.
Why root is so nice, don't have to wait for VZW, just have to wait for a developer to finish a build from the source code. :good:
I can't root the verizon Xperia z3v though, at least that's what I thought I gathered from everyone else in the threads.

I would take a guess at beginning of May 2015 for the Lollipop update
After going from 4.4 to 5 on my S5 Im not sure 5 was a life changing upgrade for the better. Im not sure how much Better its going to make this device. It didnt make my S5 better but it did annoy me enough to jump ship to this device. So I guess it was life changing enough Not sure I will accept the 5.0 when its offered until I see reviews from you guys here.
If "Xperia Z3 Dual" refers to both the Z3 and Z3v, then maybe next week?!?
http://www.itechpost.com/articles/1...op-announced-for-more-sony-xperia-devices.htm
The company had already announced that the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet were set to get the update soon, and it has now revealed that the Xperia Z3 Dual, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact, and Xperia Z Ultra will receive Android 5.0 Lollipop sometime next week. The Sony Xperia T2 Ultra and Xperia C3 will follow after that, but no specific rollout dates are available at this point. Nevertheless, it's always good news to see more devices on track to get a software treat.

The Xperia Z3 dual is an entirely separate handset itself. It's called the Dual because it can carry two Sim cards at once for convenience.
I got my Z3 Tablet Compact in the mail and it's already ready to be updates to lollipop. Haven't done it yet since I want to play around with it first. I also am starting to believe the earlier poster about not seeing the update till May. Only reason I'd say so is mainly because of Verizon. They're not supporting the device at all since they want to just push Samsung, HTC, and their own Droid Turbo first. They're also selling the Z3v too cheap at 99 cents on a new two year contract while still selling their Galaxy S5 at $150.
With the Z3v compared to the S6, S6 Edge, and M9, we still have much better battery life and we still have comparable premium specs. Droid Turbo is just thick and generic looking but that battery life is taken from the Z3. I just think Verizon maybe wanted the lesser version of the Xperia so they just can't advertise two 2 day lasting phones.
