[Q] Usuable Space - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello There
I have flashed CM10.1 on my Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 32 GB. Before i did that I made a ClockworkMod Backup. After the flashing was successful i deleted the backup file. But now I have only 436 MB free space. In the storage view of Android the grey "Freebar" is much bigger than 436 MB. If I use DiskUsage the it says there is over 20 GB of "System Data" ? Could it be that this storage has no Filesystem ? Did anyone had something like that ? I already wiped the entire device and reinstalled CM 10.1... Thanks for any advice.
Edit: I forget that my S3 was Android 4.1.2 and Cm10.1 is 4.2 All my Apps i've installed on Stock were still in /data/media and all new Apps are in /data/media/0. Deleted everything besides the 0 Folder. Problem Solved.

[Q] low on internal storage -- 10.1V

Hi to all from Greece...
I am facing a strange problem with my 2 months old 10.1v. Since yesterday there is a notification that the internal storage is getting low. In fact in the storage use of the apps is almost 8 Gb that cannot be true as the applications that are installed cannot be more than 500 Mb (including the cache).
I've read a relevant post in the forum that indicates a format of the sd card. I have made a backup of the apps and the data on my pc and I am wondering the best way to proceed.
Will this format affect the system on the Tab? The system apps?
Any help will be highly appreciated.
Thank you very much,
DK
P.S... by the way...how can i format the sd card? I have looked everywhere and couldn't figure out how....
Tks again
Internal space...
You internal storage is your APP (partition 10) space. When you are talking about your 8GB's free you're talking about your "SDCard" space (Partition 14). I suggest installing "File Manager HD", and browse your /data/app folder. Sort by size to see what your biggest applications are and uninstall a couple.
Reformatting your SDCard space isn't going to help here but if you do want to reload the entire thing including your SDcard (all 2-17 partitions) check out The Overcome ROM reload instructions. His install walkthrough has your completely erase everything (every partition gets reloaded) and starts everything off empty for you. (Find his ROM and website info on the "Galaxy Tab 10.1 Android Development" Forum).
Hope this helps...

Incorrect partitioning

Hi all, I recently brought a used samsung galaxy s2 (i9100) but the guy who had it before me has rooted the phone (clockwork recovery one) and he has installed ICS. Everything seems to work fine but the problem is when i go to the SETTINGS>STORAGE page i have 1.97gb internal storage and 4.11gb usb storage. so i have like 8 gig of the internal memory missing! how do i fix this? If i have to reflash the phone could you please also give me the links to download the files and a good walkthrough. I live in the UK so if possible could i have an unbranded uk copy of ICS. Thanks :fingers-crossed:
Also there are 2 apps installed... SuperSU and CWM

Insufficient space available but 11gb left!?

Hi folks! I have just installed official cm 10.2 and I had about 100-500mb space left when android said insufficient space available then I deleted android/data when freed up 9-10gb of space and now I am trying to install stweak and I can't because insufficient storage space message??
Edit:it only comes if I try to install afterburner or stweaks or overclocking softwares but Rom toolbox works correctly but in cm 10.2 it's glitches time after time little more than browser glitches .
I am having the same problem. I've just flashed Omnirom nightly 4.4.1. I installed a couple of apps and everything is ok, but now I cannot install anything due to insufficient storage space.
I've looked in Storage settings, it tells me I only have 228mb available. However, adding up the categories tells me I have less than 2Gb used.
It won't even let me install Folder Mount, and that's only 15mb!
Anybody else haing this issue/ any solutions?
Thanks, John williams
Check for *.odex files in /data and delete them.

About system memory and data recovery

hi guys, my English is not very good, but I will try to ask you a question to help
I have a galaxy s3.
16 GB internal memory, 5 GB partition reserved for the system
There are 11 gb usable space(stored pictures, music and applications).I erased a few pictures from this area.
I have android 4.1.2 software fix for that, but I gave my phone for repair and the new 4.1.2 ROM has been installed.
and then I did completely fill the usable space(11gb)
and I'll ask you a few questions to help
1)I hope my pictures which deleted maybe can be free(such as /cache) area in 5 gb(can not be used)
Is it possible that something?
2)Does the software(android) is always installed same memory partition?what is pit file? and emmc chip?
3)ıf ı do root ,how much memory ı can scan?(11 or 16 gb)
4)if ı will scan diskdigger after doing root,How much memory scans(11 gb or 16 gb)?
5)İs data recoverable after have make wipe data /factory reset and wipe cache partition?
6)What installed 5 GB area can not be used ?I think OS does not take up that much space. Is there a free space in this area(5gb)?
I think 3rd party data recovery software can not recover one times overwritten data?(RECUVA,ANDROİD DATA RECOVER)
Is it true that?
7)CAN I RECOVER MY VİDEO AND PİCTURE ?
Thank you in advance to everyone who helped
Search and read for the hundreds of other posts, you can dump the entire partition to your pc and then use software to scan.
Your files are almost certainly gone, I've not heard a single person who got anything back.
I checked it. Are not same status
Help please

"System Data" taking most of my internal space

Hey everybody,
I got a SGS3 (I9300) rooted. I installed ROM twice since rooting my device (ultimate ROM and now I have CM11).
For some reason, the system data is taking about 70% of my internal storage.
I was looking for old backups from Titanium or ROM backup, but found nothing.
I added some photos from DiskUsage and from file explorer.
Thanks for help
