MEGA & Samsung Competitor Evaluation - Samsung Galaxy Mega

First about me: I have been using a GT-P6200L Galaxy Tab 7+ GSM, HSPA+ as my primary device. Yes, I carry a 7" tablet with a built-in phone and have been doing it for over a year. People have looked at me like I have 2 heads. But I was clearly ahead of my time with large Phablets are concerned.
I just spent a while in my local AT&T store evaluating a few Samsung products. I was interested in the MEGA as it is still big but more manageable than my Tab.
Certainly the MEGA is a great size but it DOES lag. Even my P6200 upgraded to Jelly Bean, does not lag. It is not the quickest machine on the planet but it is smooth and quick.
I then examined both the Note II and III. The 3 is certainly nice, especially the screen. The Note II seems like the value proposition. But it is simply NOT BRIGHT ENOUGH. Sure, it is high resolution and Amoled but it is DIM vs. other machines. And after using a 7" Tab and contemplating the MEGA, the Note is simply too small.
AT&T has a very nice 7" Tab 3 but you cannot have a phone in it. I can buy an international version with a phone, but NO LTE.
I like the LG Optimus Pro, but I already bought one for my wife and it is also too small.
I guess I'll stick with my 7" Tab+ until they make a 6"+ LTE phablet. Hurry up already!

I also have been carrying a 7" phone around for nearly 2 years - original GTab P1000. I decided it was time to get something "up to date" - since I was never going to get a working Android 4.x on the GTab. After experiencing Samsung abandoning the P1000, & didn't want to get an "end of life" device, which counted the GTab 2 out for me. Going to a smaller screen concerned me - that eventually counted the Note 2 out. I decided to go for the Mega 6.3 ...
... I have absolutely no regrets. I have no lag on the device, its quick & smooth, & pretty much a perfect size. Screen is large enough to be usable, but the device is small enough to comfortably fit in a pocket, or on a belt clip. One of the best purchases I have made

Did you check to see if they offer the 7" Tab 3 in Australia? ?? If so... theres your LTE...But..does the Tab 3 have a flash for the camera??? I dont think it does.. I like my large screen phablets with flash....
I still rock the crap out of my GT p6800..
Non LTE.. but H+ speeds with ATT -US...gets 7-8 d/l mps on slow traffic...

Coming from an S2/Note 1/4g but no voice 7.0+ combo on T-Mobile, I wanted one device but kind of ran into similar problems. Neither the international voice Tab 3, Note 2, nor Mega gave me everything I really wanted- decent camera (out with the Tab), LTE (out with the Tab again!), decent price (no new Note 2 or Mega), a bigger screen than my Note 1 (still think the 2 feels smaller), and pentaband hspa (no Tab, Mega), and enough accessories (out with all but the Note 2). I considered a 6200 for easy sim swapping with my S2 (to keep a compact alternative) but didn't want to deal with the proprietary charger any more. Also, those tablets still cost a LOT!!!
I ended up compromising more than I wanted with a really clean, $325 T-Mobile Note 2. I like the phone, it seems to have fantastic battery life so far, and it's more pocketable than my original Note but I still want something bigger. I'll probably keep my 7.0+ as a home device or getting a voice enabled Tab 3 7" or 8" down the road to go with the new Note. Hell, I'm not even carrying THAT yet because I messed up putting my first screen protector ever on it.

The MEGA would be just fine with a faster processor, 1080p screen and Gorilla Glass. Is that too much to ask? I'll be sticking with my smooth as silk, nicely screened Tab 7+. But I'm looking for the next device...

[Q] Galaxy s2 vs galaxy note?

Hi dear,
I'm going to get either Galaxy S2 or Galaxy Note.
The price difference between them is quite big..
GS2 is 730 NZD and Galaxy Note is 1199 NZD(as its just released?)
Do you think galaxy note has that much worthy?
What do think guys?
It depends whether you want a phone or a small tablet that can make calls. I've handled a prototype Note and it's not something you can comfortably use with one hand.

Oh is it?
But I do have iPad 2..
What I like from Galaxy Note is the high resolution display.
It Is awesome I gues.. As I was iPhone 4 user so I do care the density of the screen. It should be clear and crisp.
It's also an inch bigger, and uses PenTile matrix, both of which detract from the 1280x720 resolution's pixel density. So really, it's about a wash in terms of clarity compared to the 4.3" SGS2.
Then there's always the Galaxy Nexus, also 1280x720, but half an inch smaller than the Note. Sadly though, it's not running Exynos/Mali, but it does come with ICS and a guarantee of being at the head of the queue for updates and custom ROMs.

That's what I concerned.
Galaxy note and s2 will get ICS at some time in Q2 in 2011..
That's too late, right?
Galaxy note has better specs, but sgs2 is better for size for the main user

Galaxy Note are for users who 'CBF' carrying an eight-ten inch tablet, but still wants all the power and resolution necessary for web browsing and movie watching.
Galaxy S II will be intended for gamer (running on Full screen), who prefer web browsing on the go while making phone calls and sending text messages.
The Galaxy Note beats or matches in the SGS2 in everything. The only reason why someone should choose the SGS2 over the Note is because of the price and size.

I feel playing game on my iPad is better than on galaxy s2 in terms of screen size though which means game on galaxy note will be much more fun than on galaxy s2.

The problem as mentioned above, Running standard android games on HD screen doesn't make it run FULL screen.
Yes galaxy note is a phone, but a 4.3 inch SGSII is already a humongous phone. A 5.6' phone doesn't make it ideal for making phone calls
Galaxy SII v Note
I'm stoked about the Note. I currently have a Galaxy S and S II. I was waiting for the Galaxy Tab 7.7, but the Note may do the job. I do design work and I am excited to use the stylus to cut and paste images, do simple drawings, etc.
The other thing I don't like about the S and SII is that when typing emails, I can only see about 1 or two lines of text that I'm typing. I think with the Note, you'll see more.
The biggest problem with the Note is the price. For me it's about $850 USD. That's just too much.
I am also considering buying a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon. I swore I'd never go back to Verizon but the Nexus should have their 4 G as well as the 4G radios for AT&T and T-Mobile.
Samsung is so prolific at spitting out these phones that it's hard to choose. They even have a 4" screened model with a full QWERTY. Not too shabby!
hi, you could also wait foe the sgs2 lte hd, its gonna have a 4,65 inches display with super amoled plus hd display, 1.5 ghz cpu 1gb ram, 16gb onboard memory and so on its supossed to be available in december.
i've got the sgs2 international and can't be happier.
if you are using the sgs1 or 2 you could use nitrality to change de dpi from 240 to 182 and get more on screen space for wrintting emails and whatever you want, i did it and looks even better.
the note, is realy nice, played with it at ifa here in berlin, realy nice device, and if you wear a jacket always or most of the time it schouln't be a problem, but i would say is to big for jeans pockets, or maybe not, but it would big the risk to break it probably.
Im waitig for the 7.7

Thanks for the input. I don't think we'll see a Galaxy SII in the states with LTE anytime soon. AT&T and TMO just got their SIIs and neither is capable of LTE.
I think I'll most likely try the Verizon Nexus Prime because it will have (850/1700/1900/2100) 3g and Verizon Lte and then get the Galaxy S III next year. If cash permits, I'll get the Note too. If it had quad band 3g and Verizon LTE, I'd just buy the Note.

Hi,
If you like to listen to Music on your phone, then please dont buy SGS2, it has a crappy Yamaha audio codec. Fankly I think that is the only disadvantage of SGS2.
I usually browse and listen to music, I find the music to be sub-par when compared to my Ipod.
Better go for a superphone with Wolfson Audio codec.
Check which audio codec is present in Galaxy Note or Go for Galaxy Nexus, I think it has Wolfson audio codec (as Nexus S had the same)...
Or one more option is the New Slim Motorola Droid Razr (7.1mm), which even below advantages :
- Check its audio codec, it must be wolfson I guess
- has a better battery (1780MAh)
- Higher resolution than SGS2 (540 x 960)
- Spash resistant
- Metal casing but still 127Gm
- Might not have the pink spot that SGS2 has.
- Might not have the yellow tint effect on screen that SGS2 has.
- hdmi port
- comes with 2.3.5 and guaranteed ICS support coming for this model
There are too many advantages that Droid Razr has over SGS2.
How crappy is Yamaha codec?
Is audio even throughout the spectrum?
Head over to anadtech for a detailed review of SGS2 audio performance... Below is the link:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/4686/samsung-galaxy-s-2-international-review-the-best-redefined/13
He clearly says Yamaha audio codec is not a good audio codec (compared to Wolfson...), and wolfson is far better (which we find in SGS1, Nexus S....)
I am using SG-note.. For last few days ..
So fare i thing its kind of mini tablet.which works batter than all small tablet.. I think it will be unfaire to compare SG-note vs SGSII.
SGSII is the best smartphone for me ... Thanks to samsung ..
What can i say abt SG-note it just too smart phone..
I think you should go for SGNote.

Wait a few months after the note has been superseded by yet another Samsung device and you're be able to pick one up for a lot less, nothing wrong with the sgs2 and won't be out specced for some time, Blimey I remember the days when all PDAs had a stylus much better, that would be the only reason I would be interested in getting a note
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Just now checked in Engadget, Galaxy Note has the same Yamaha audio codec as SGS2.
If you are a audio freak or even a casual audio listener, I do not suggest going to SGS2 or Galaxy Note. Try either Galaxy Nexus or Moto Droid Razr.

Which device should I get?

Hi everyone,
So basically tomorrow is my birthday and my parents would be getting me something. I was thinking of a new gadget.
I currently have the Google Nexus S
So for mobile device I've got the Galaxy Nexus in mind, or the HTC one X.
But lately I've been thinking about tablets. I do not mind getting a tablet to pair with my Nexus S. I was thinking about the kindle fire, but I do not know how to get it in Singapore. Or the Asus Transformer, but im unsure of it because of the price.
So can you recommend me a tablet that lies with the price range below 350-400USD or $500 SGD. ?
So what do you think? And or is the galaxy nexus upgrade a better choice? Please help in advising me. I'm in a dilemma.
Thank you so much!!

If I were in you I would only think about the Samsung Galaxy S2 (i9100) or the Samsung Galaxy Note.
The S2 is very well supported by a wide community of modders, has got a marvelous screen, and great hardware.
The Note is bigger but still smaller than a tablet, and gives you the possibility to use a very sensitive stylus.
Have a look at the size, and have your choice. If my S2 breaks I will buy a Note.
HTC One X has a Tegra 3 chip, currently the most powerful SoC solution. So I would suggest going for it - it wil be powerful even after 2 years.
S2 or Samsung Galaxy Nexus
I got the S2 but i would rather want the Samsung Galaxy Nexus cuz it's more "Google" if you know what I mean.. cuz i hate the touchwiz, I know you can get a ROM but still.. AND the nexus got the Navigation Bar!
If I were in your place I would have gone for tablet, having two gadgets of different leagues is better than upgrading one.
Thanks guys, I would take all your advice into account. I am hoping for more replies because all your replies are opposite one another

Ok I'll add some more to your confusion!
Getting a new device is like getting a new pair of shoes. You should get the one that fits you comfortably. Here's a short list of what I'd get if I were to buy a phone (depending on need/want):
*available phones only
-Xperia S: Camera monster and cheaper than the OneX, at Par with SGS2's performance
-OneX: future proof (probably good for the next 2-3 years), powerful GPU
-Samsung Galaxy Nexus: timely updates (that's it)
-Samsung Galaxy S2: wide dev support, probably still good for the next year or so (but the resolution is too low IMO)
-OneS: beats the OneX in some benchmarks (in their native resolutions), IMO S4 chip is better than the 4-PLUS-1 A9 tegra 3, more affordable too.
IF you're going for a TAB and you can't afford a Transformer Prime don't settle for the Nook or a Fire. I suggest you get a Motorolla XOOM. It's tegra 2 powered and has an HD screen (1280x800) compared to the 1024x600 of the Nook and Fire, and it has a very wide dev support.
I suggest you go for a TAB and don't upgrade your phone. That way you'll have your Nexus S (which can still run almost every app on the Play Store) and have the XOOM for your multimedia satisfaction
Happy Birthday bro! good luck on your gift!
We have a number of tablets here where I work, and the one that I like the most is defiantly the Asus transformer. But that being said I agree with the last guy the XOOM is a good one and also is most acers. But price aside I would say the Transformer Prime would be a fine choice!

Thanks dude!! I really sincerely appreciate it it must have taken you a lot of time to write that out. Thanks good news I've got a few more days to decide. And haha you've added to my confusion
I've ruled out tablets for now.. this is due to the reason that I wouldn't bring it outside of the home anywhere with me unless I'm going overseas on holiday. This is due to school and lack of time..
So now you've narrowed me down to 2 devices which I had my eyes on. The One X and the Galaxy Nexus. Looking at the One X's development section it Loos empty. That's probably due to cwm being recently released for it. So in the 5days room I've got (parents waiting for a $150 voucher, phone costs $400) I will check the development section of the One X.
Now I wonder, which roms do you think will come to the one X? Aokp? Cm9? These are some basic concerns I have.. looks like I might have to actually go with the One X. How about MIUI on the One X?
Something that bothers me is the One X has a very different look from the Nexus. Minimalistic stuff on the launcher would be pretty difficult to achieve.. so any screenshots of cool designs done on the One X?
Thank you all guys! I hope you had a good day.

It's kind of hard to recommend a phone better than the Galaxy Nexus in it's price range. However I have 2 options I'd consider:
Xperia S:
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4219&idPhone2=4369
pros:
-Best Camera in the android world
-32GB storage
-Sony's reputation of giving updates even to older devices (X10 came out with Donut and came as far as Gingerbread)
-Better CPU (1.5GHZ snapdragon vs 1.2GHZ TI-OMAP)
-with card slot
cons:
-no gorilla glass (can be offset with screen protectors though)
neutral:
-SuperAMOLED vs LED-Backlit_LCD (matter of preference)
-4.3" vs 4.65" (matter of preference)
Samsung Galaxy S2
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4219&idPhone2=3621
pros:
-definitely more afordable
-with card slot
-better camera
-more powerful SoC (better processor and GPU)
-very wide dev support
cons:
-not retina display
neutral:
-4.2" vs 4.65" (matter of preference)
Both these devices are significantly more affordable than the Galaxy Nexus and both has the same, or even better, performance.
Personally, I can afford the OneX but I'll be getting the Xperia S. IMO (benchmarks aside) there is nothing the OneX can do that the Xperia S can't, at least for the next year or so. And in two years time I'll probably be changing phones again, so I'll go with the Xperia S for now.
Hope this helps

Galaxy Note VS Galaxy S3

Hey everyone,
I was wondering which phone you think I should get. I currently have the HTC EVO 3D but I think I want to try out Samsung for at least a year. I have pretty big hands, so the Note wouldn't be too big for me. Should I wait for Sprint's Galaxy Note, or Sprint's Galaxy S3? Thanks!

ICS on note is officially released only in certain parts of the world, India & Germany were the first ones to get em other countries should follow soon.
I am a note owner but will be migrating to the S3, Note's great but is already an older gen phone with the quad cores coming in.
If I were you I would get either an S3 or wait for the Note 2.
PS: Will receive my S3 on the 30th and post the comparisons/impressions.
The Note will get ICS worldwide at some point or another so personally I wouldn't take that too much into account.
It boils down to screen size plus s-pen vs. quad core plus newer touchwiz. It depends if you value screen size or processing power more?

There are a few other things to it - the S3 is very likely to have higher audio quality, it also has BT 4.0 and Apt-X, full exFAT support, options for higher interal storage, better USB OTG support, slightly better camera quality and usability, and as you say better processor and GPU. Depends on a few things which will matter to some and not others.
I have a Note and will be doing lots of comparisons at http://www.AndroidNZ.net
I had the note. It is the exact same copy of the att samsung skyrocket but with a bigger screen. I wasnt impressed, its specs are outdated.
Now that ICS is out for the Note its a tough choice......Already have ICS and its a LOT faster than GB on the Note. I like using the pen as well.
For bench markers and spec buyers the S3 has a lot more to offer on paper. In reality though, for me, the DAC is the only thing I KNOW I will definitively realize the difference and not so much until SuperCurio does his magic..The only reason I would like to try an S3 is to get the Wolfson DAC and Voodoo sound back. Otherwise the screen size and the pen make the Note still viable for me.
Everything else is fine on the Note and specs are at the point where they can be measured better but not always realized in actual everyday use.
The point of diminishing returns has arrived. I have never used my OTG USB attachment or the HDMI attachments. I have 16GB plus 64GB storage and never was limited by the 2 GB limitation. 2GB is a HUGE single file. So look at ALL the capabilities and decide what is important to you as far as what you will actually NEED
Your decision based on those parameters will be easy...... I would keep the Note myself and wait a few months to see if Samsung rumors reveal a Note II with S3 specs.
i was one of the people who moved from Note to S3, i still have my note though... my personal notes after 5 days of s3 use:
1. Note Screen is still Bigger, better for reading larger texts although at the same S3 Screen shows better Colors and more CRISP font and i enjoy it actually.
2. Note PEN is unbeatable in all ways... i miss it. it did not work on s3, a special s3 pen is required it seems and it maybe coming soon.
3. S3 performasnce is way better than note... it is noticable in every aspect. Samsung i beleieve have worked well on the software in overall This Time.
4. i did not notice any battery drain on s3 at all, it lasts even more than NOTE which is bigger battery. knowing i am using 3G or WIFI always on, one of them always on. i have tried all GB and ICS Roms on NOTE.
5. S3 lacks MASS STORAGE! it uses only MTP option.
6. S3 is great for portability, Large screen and Lightweight at the same time.
7. those who think S3 design is not good, you have to hold it in your hand, for me i see it very nice ...
8. S3 does not include Polaris office full version or even Photo Editor that comes with note!
9. for now i will keep Using S3, i love it now but maybe if the nostalgia hits, i will use the note also
This is what i think of now...
I bought my note on 20th March 2012, and sold it on 19th May 2012, I will be buying GSIII, it will be launching here on 31st.
The reason I sold note was the size of it it is too big for me, but the screen size is really nice for browsing and watching videos, I think SIII wont be far behind Note but much more pocket-able, and easy to use, at least for me.
Galaxy S3 if you ask me.
i just bought my note 3 weeks ago now i'm buying the SIII ill keep both then sell one of them after few months
Note, if you need the pen. And of course, because of its size, the Note is also a great hand fan
hmmmm it sounds like the galaxy s3 is the phone to get. although I think I'll just get whatever comes first to sprint.

What the advantage of full exFAT support if my Note reads fine my microSDXC64gb?

i was one of the people who moved from Note to S3, i still have my note though... my personal notes after 5 days of s3 use:

Asking out of curiosity, how will you use two phones ?
Alternate days ? Or switch weekly ? Or use both all the time with two seperate Sims ?
I've a sgs2. I want to move to sgs3 because of superior screen and good audio quality. But I don't want to sell my sgs2.
Can't figure out how I'll use both ?

i actually don't use both at the same time. i am using s3 now 99% of the time.
i just cant let it down, i.e. the note ... it was perfect during the previous 6 months... so i may end up playing with it from time to time at home without sim...

Well, the S Pen on the Galaxy Note is actually an inductive stylus. The phone itself has the wacom digitizer built-in, that's why it is said to be for the niche market; and not so for the S III. So, only the capacitive stylus is compatible with the S III.

I think that 4.8" screen is enugh for browsing, gaminig...
In my opinion Note is too big for use with one hand.
I had an AT&T Note for almost a month, but in anticipation for the S3 I returned it. The main reasons I wanted the S3 over the Note:
- Battery: I wasn't happy with the longevity of the Note's battery. I didn't want to have to baby it (constantly monitor RAM/Programs) to get adequate usage out of it. The battery wasn't horrible by any means, but having that big beautiful screen didn't mean as much if you couldn't get enough time out of it on a full charge. (btw I kept everything stock so my exp with the battery pertains to that)
- Size: I tried my best to get used to the large size of the Note, but found that it was just a tad too big for me in the end. The one-handed use of it just wasn't practical for me, even though I did adapt to the size somewhat. Having a hybrid phone/tab was great, but I found that I missed the ease of a smaller device when multi-tasking with my other hand.
Those two factors were what really pushed me towards the S3. I felt the 4.8" would be a perfect match for size/practical use. And the battery sounds like it's definitely a winner too.

Consolidating Devices: From a Galaxy Nexus and a Nexus 7 to a Galaxy Note II

Just picked up my Note II yesterday after a long debate between it and the DNA. Decided to go with the Note II cause I already feel like my Nexus 7 16GB was a mistake. Bought the Nexus 7 in August, but I could barely fit anything on it and ended up using my Galaxy Nexus more still for the past months. Used my Nexus 7 at school often for eBooks, but never really felt like taking it anywhere else.
The Nexus 7 was smaller than my iPad 2 that I sold earlier this year, but still felt like a pain to carry and the storage limit and lack of data connectivity was more of a pain than I thought. I really wanted a 1080P screen in my next phone, but depending on the viewing distance it wouldn't matter anyway... also don't really care for Sense or non removable batteries or SD cards, so decided to pass on the DNA and get the Note II.
Had the Galaxy Nexus 32GB since this time last year, and said I didn't need a new phone this year, but figured I'd give the Note II a try after hearing rave reviews since I could return it if I didn't like it. So far everything has been good. Got a 32GB SD card to put in it, and I copied everything from the Nexus to the card so I could have all my stuff.
On the Galaxy Nexus, no matter what I did, the screen used most of the battery life. I could barely get 2 hours screen on time out of the Nexus with exteneded battery and with my apps installed. Installed mostly the same apps on stock Galaxy Note, and so far I have 2 hours screen on time with 64% left while tethering and playing music on the phone's speaker... just getting insane battery life compared to the Nexus to the point where I'm shocked at how good it is.
The phone definitely feels faster than the Galaxy Nexus even with all the bloatware still installed, so I think I'm gonna keep it especially since the bootloader will be easily unlocked soon. I can't wait to see some TouchWIZ ROM's or more AOSP-like stuff like Paranoid Android to take advantage of the huge screen by modifying the DPI.
My hands are small, so using it one-handed is harder then the Galaxy Nexus, but it's not completely impossible... just taking some time getting used to. The phone's build quality is amazing even though it is plastic also. The plastic looks nice in grey, and it doesn't feel as slippery as the Galaxy Nexus even though it looks like it would be. Makes it easier to hold the phone than I thought it would... Some people say the plastic seems cheap, but to me it reminds me of Oakley sunglass plastic... feels very light and durable... definitely not the same as cheap $10 sunglasses. I haven't even had the phone for 24 hours, but I'm falling in love already.
I will probably keep it and keep my Galaxy Nexus as a backup since I'm new to Verizon and have no spare phone. I will probably sell my Nexus 7 tho since the Note II's resolution, battery life, and screen size are comparable with the bonus of 4G LTE and phone calls. The screen looks more crisp than the Nexus 7, the colors are better, and it fits in my pocket so it will never get left at home.
Anyone else coming from the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7, or both, and in awe of the note?
How is the signal strength on the Note II? I have a GNexus right now and swore I would never buy another Samsung due to the poor data connections I have experienced with the GNexus.
The Note II does look like a great device. Just need to make sure I can get mobile data when I am away from WiFi.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk 2
signal strength is very good with the note 2.. I have 4 out of 5 bars in my room(hardest place for me to get a connection)... With my Tbolt and rezound they averaged 2 bars.
I came from a galaxy nexus. I'm not looking back. This phone will be a lot of fun now that we are unlocked.

I'm coming from much the same situation and am trying to decide if I should keep my 7. I love getting updates on time so I will probably sell my gnex and keep the 7. But I do find myself on the couch picking up my note and not the 7. Hmmm...

I'm keeping my 7. Once the newness wears off I'm sure I'll want that slightly larger screen for reading and such at home. I won't be lugging the 7 around while out anymore though. No need because the Note 2 is the perfect hybrid.
I sold my Nexus 7 and my Galaxy Nexus. I don't miss either one. I might be in the market for a Galaxy tab 10.1 though. 7 inch screens seem pointless to me now. I should also note, that I used my Nexus 7 primarily for movies and games, which I find that the note 2 is better at doing both.

Have any comparison with the dBm? Bars can be changed and spoofed, but the dBm strength can't.

I played with one at the verizon store and it and my rezound were sitting @ -90dbm. Adrenalyne states that signal is better than the galaxy nexus.
I really wanted a tablet for school but I have no money. My dad gave me his old acer a500. It works ok for my meads but not as well as I had hoped so I actually ended out using my s3 more often. Now with the note I get double the functionality. Much better in my case.

This is nearly me too. Selling the 7 paid a contract fee for the Note and I just like it a lot more. The 7 is a great device, but if I'm not using my Note I want more real estate. For me that's an iPad 3 as larger android tablets have never blown me away. The nexus 10 would probably make a decent sidekick.
Same here still have the other two though (nexus7 galaxy nexus). Keeping them as backups but haven't used them since I got my Note 2.

I had the nexus which is what my wife is using now. But I never had data issues on it. Debating between a tab or note 10.1....or an Asus transformer
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
At my horrible signal apartment (we really need a new tower out here), the galaxy nexus hangs around -120 dbm while the Note 2 is about 104 dbm. Also I can actually walk away from windows on the phone without dropping calls again, which would happen with the nexus. We're going to call that a great improvement!
I never noticed abnormally bad signal on my Nexus, but that is probably because I was coming for a carrier that has less reception where I live. It seems like the Note II does get better reception tho, and that could definitely play into the the better battery life I am experiencing.
I'm pretty sure at this point I'm going to sell the Nexus 7 and just use the note as my primary. They both have almost the same resolution (1280x720 vs 800), but the Note II has better colors, faster processor, more ram, and more memory. Note II also has better cameras, more features, and can fit in my pocket.
I used to only like stock Android... didn't like TouchWIZ on my original Galaxy S which drove me to learn how to install ROMs, but now I feel like TouchWIZ is way better and actually brings a lot to the table. My previous two phones were the Nexus S and Galaxy S, so I will miss AOSP a little bit, but not much since there are a lot of useful features for power users that don't slow down the phone now.
Sony vaio duo 11 is a nice hybrid... I love my note2 but it can't replace a computer or tablet with clients. I haven't done much with it since it's mainly for work but it has great performance so far for a decent price
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I don't have a Nexus 7 but I have a TF700T. I have not pulled out my tablet since I got my Note II. Not sure if that is a bad or good thing. I can't sell it because it was a Father's Day gift and the wife would be upset.
Just sold my 7 and nexus phone. Love the note 2. Best phone i have ever had.

Galaxy mega - implications for Note 3

Okay, I had assumed the 6.3 rumors were a massive joke,
But now the 'galaxy mega' is official and it has a 6.3 inch screen!
Good lord.
Size comparison:
Note 2: 151.1 mm x 80.5 mm x 9.44 mm.
Mega 5.8: 162.6 x 82.4 mm x 9 mm
Mega 6.3 : 167.6 mm x 88 mm x 8.0 mm
My initial thoughts:
STOP making phones thinner! Phones are stupid thin. I want my battery life!
After adding the Seido Active case, I am starting to find the Note 2 a bit unwieldly.
I have to mess around with it a bit to get to fit in my pockets. (and it does, but it's an indicator that I'm hitting my limit)
The idea of a phone that is 16mm longer is a turn off for me and probably a deal breaker.
If the screen is unbreakable and I can dump my case, that will help a bit, but in the end
my phone MUST fit in my pants pockets or it's a deal breaker.
But one weird thing, why are the megas so much longer than the note 2? They seem almost 8 mm too 'long'.
Does that mean the note 3, 6.3" would be 160mm long? That might be doable.
Time for another cardboard mockup test.
Wait, it's dual core, not quad (Yeah A15 I know)? Surprising. And yeah, too large for my liking, love my Note II and looks like I'll be sticking with it for a looong time
Don't forget that Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy Mega is not just a phone... This is PDA in my view. Calling feature is just a bonus.
Galaxy mega looks to me a bad, material wasted strategy from samsung, 5.5 size was enough, 6.3 doesnt provide any justification for kewping it as a phone.

That's what people said about the original Note!
Personally, I don't see the point of both the 6.3" and the 5.8", but their must be a specific strategy here.
My theory is that these two devices are essentially testing the water for a larger screened Note 3.

No way the note 3 will be bigger than 6.3 inches. I just think that these are for folks in small markets that can't afford the high end notes or Galaxy s phones. These 2 phones are mid tier, more affordable and still offer all the touchwiz features including air view, air gestures and all that.

I don't mean that the Note 3 will be bigger than thesw devices - just that Samsung is testing the market to see how big they can go, but doing so in a fashion that won't dilute the Note brand.

He guys...
Before i had the N7100 I had the GTP6800 tab 7.7 this Tab had everything that i needed, tab and phone in one. Business and private combined... Loved it, but just too big to carry along for daily use. I do miss the 160 dpi tablet interface and screen layout. I now use the N7100 with 280 dpi and some app with 240 dpi for convenience. .
MyPoint
I think that the 6.3 inch Mega would be a good alternative for business and private use that is just big enough to carry around. There is a market for this for sure.. Samsung isnt stupid.. the evolve / adapt to the needs of the consumer. Think about the flex screens that they are working on. Just to get a 6.3 inch to be a new standard, they are making a beginning. the 6.3 is all strategy and adapting to the future imho.
Anyway...hope to get my hands on the Mega soon =)

I don't think so dude, I understand Samsung is testing the water to see what people think about it, but anything bigger than 6.3 inches would without a doubt be in tablet territory and 6.3 inch is already a stretch. Think about it for a second, the 6.3 inch mega is almost a full inch bigger than the note 2..... I just don't see it being the new standard. But I do think some ppl would love it. I love bigger phone but 6.3 inches I would not do.
The note 2 is at about the limit for me so far as size goes. It fits into my pocket but only just.
Sent from the mighty Note II.
Hehe they just keep pushing the boundary. And why not, we keep following it.
Thought the original iPhone was too big at the time - got one - got used to it.
Thought the One X (or S2) was too big - got one, got used to it.
Thought the Note II was ridiculously big - got one, got used to it.
However the line must be somewhere??
I think for me the line is absolutely with the Note II. This is just of the size that it fits and can be semi comfortably used with one hand. Any bigger is just too much (though I said that about the One X, so I can see where they're coming from, but I think I mean it this time).
What strikes me as odd is that the spec is so backwards. Dual core? 1.5GB? And no pen. It's like they're aiming purely for the "phone as an equivalent of a wang size contest" market and I'm not sure that'll work as the Note II has other things going for it like high end spec, S-Pen, super battery etc.

That's actually an A15 dual core. Probably better then the A9 Quad Core on Note 2.
And the Mali T-604 GPU on that thing will run circles around our Note2. It's used to power 2560x1600 Nexus 10 tablet. At 720x1280 it might be the fastest device yet!
In fact, the 1.5GB and inferior screen are the only things that differentiate it from the top offerings (S/Note lines). It will be a powerhouse anyway.
No S-Pen is obvious, it's not of the Note pedigree.
But if priced correctly, this can be a ridiculously good offering... well... for people with oversized hands, anyway.
But still.. how come samsung just didnt save those screen sizes for future Note's line up :/

The places where I keep my phone/smartphone have ALWAYS been the same, they don't grow nor shrink: fanny pack, jeans back pocket, jacket pocket.
So, the ideal smartphones dimensions DO NOT CHANGE with time. They don't for me and they don't for anybody else.
People marvelled at the first 4"/4.3" displays and many started to scream "it's too big!!" (especially Apple following morons). Then, most people got accustomed to them, "understood" them and started to like them (and buy them in droves).
I was just waiting... (and enjoying my Galaxy S, SII, Note and Note II in the meantime)
With today's tech's state of the art (RE weight, thinness, bezel etc) a 6.3"/6.5" is just PERFECT for me. It's the screen size I have ALWAYS wanted.
Any bigger and it wouldn't fit where I have always kept my smartphones (and phones before them), any smaller and I am "wasting space" and loosing out on what I could easily carry around, enjoy and take full advantage of.
When a smartphone doesn't fit where I carry it well, then I call it a tablet..
I will be pretty pissed if the Note III will have a 5.9" display (which will likely have) when the Mega has a 6.3" one.
I would instantly get a Note III even if it didn't have ANY improvement or spec bump over the Note II BUT a bigger display but at the same time I won't downgrade to a slower CPU and, above all, less RAM (not to mention loosing the S-Pen which I don't use all that often but I do appreciate the times I use it). So that's why I can't get the 6.3" Mega.
I am really disappointed to read some of the things written here on the NOTE II forum, a lot of it is just the garbage usually spouted off by the ignorant average user (especially Apple users, Apple is the one company whose HW and SW philosophy I hate the guts of).
In short: bring it on Samsung! We POWERUSERS who actually NEED and USE the full gamut of capabilities of today's smartphones instead of "wearing" them like fashion accessories (**** useless garbage like iPhones, HTC One, Lumia 920 and the rest of their ilk), appreciate big screens, removable batteries, top specs, lots of memory space, the most complete set of HW features, the most powerful mobile OS with tons of added SW features AND PLASTIC/POLYCARBONATE build over ****ing metal bodies, are calling for it!!
