Factory restore help. - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

A little while back I rooted my phone and removed some bloatware. Is there a way to restore it to factory state with all the stock apps and what not? If I do the typical factory reset it doesn't bring back the deleted apps, just gets rid of everything else.

In the dev section there is stock odin images thatll get you back all the bloat. There is no wipe images or ones that wipe everything if you have apps/data you want to save. Or you can find a stock rom and extract all the bloat out of it. If you dont know how to flash via odin theres a short guide in the thread as well.
Hit thanks if I helped you out. Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way. Sent via tapatalk. now Free

How do I do a full factory wipe of my phone? I know you can go into privacy and do a factory reset but that is for data only isn't it? I want to make the phone how it came in the box. I was rooted and had the lag fix installed but I have undone both in preparation for this. Thanks.

You will have to flash it with odin to get back to full stock. why do you need it back to stock?
You can do a "factory format" not a factory reset, and this will erase all data and restore to factory settings. Download my service menu program in my signature to do this. Otherwise do what the last poster did and reflash with odin.
phone seems slower in general than when I got it a few weeks ago, wondering if I messed something up playing with it. also I have a lot of fails when texting. just want to get it back like it came then start over.

If it was me I would do a Clockwork recovery of the stock rom. Im a little afraid of Odin due to all the bricks I have seen on the forums involving Odin (plus im on a Mac). If you are not returning it to Tmobile you could also try one of the roms that are posted in the forums. I would recomend Bionix or Frankin-twiz. Both devs are spot on with thier roms.
Factory Format Code is *2767*3855#

Just do a factory format, all the other methods listed are complicated
Go to dialer and dial in:
*2767*3855#
thats it, it will format your device and set it back to factory.
you can do a soft reset by dialing in
*#*#7780#*#*

tried that it erases all your data and settings but doesn't restore anything you have removed. will most likely use clockwork then.

[Q] Full Factory Reset

Anyone know how to go about this on my GSII?
Planning on flashing to Stock and would prefer a fresh start, would just flashing the firmware be sufficient?
I do remember seeing a reset option when pressing power+home+vol down on start. Would ideally like everything to go back to factory and all data deleted, basically factory fresh.
Thanks Guys.

Have you rooted and flashed anything or changed anything on /system?
If not, the reset option in recovery would be fine.
If you have, you would need to reflash.

Thanks for the prompt reply.
Rooted yes, though not sure if anything is changed on/system as a result (I personally haven't).
I've an O2 Handest so would like to unbrand, hence I would be flashing to the actual stock Rom so I'm assuming I would need to Root again anyhow?
Just wondering If I would need to reset then flash, or would flash be sufficient and get rid of everything in the process?
A flash should be enough to clear out anything left behind.
You would obviously flash the O2 UK firmware, and you would want to reset the download mode counter (see the dev section) before you presented it as an "untouched" phone

[Q] Rooted Transform Ultra problem

I have a Samsung Transform Ultra (rooted), I am using the stock ROM that came with the phone, recently I have corrupted something and need to attempt a factory reset, however some people have said that doing a factory reset on a rooted phone could brick it, so this brings a couple of questions:
1.- How would I un-root my phone, or, if un-rooting is not necessary, what steps should I take to factory reset it safely? My data is safely backed up already.
2.- Has anyone done a factory reset on a rooted Transform Ultra?
Any help would be most appreciated.

Don't you have a custom Recovery installed? I don't know about this device specifically, but there should be a factory reset option you can utilize within your Recovery image. You'll need a ROM to flash afterwards also, otherwise you'll have no OS on your device. Or simply flash a NANDroid backup.

Since my (rooted) phone has the stock factory ROM only, and I never changed it, do I still need a ROM? My original ROM was never removed or changed.

Well that's the thing, when you factory reset a rooted phone it wipes everything, including the OS. So after a factory reset there will be no ROM to boot into. Even though you've never changed it and you're running stock, you'd still need a copy of that stock ROM (if you wanted to continue running stock). But if you've made a nandroid backup (complete snapshot of your entire system) at some point before you noticed the current problem you're having, it might be easier to simply restore that particular backup via Recovery.
I never flashed any roms or recovery, just rooted.
Unfortunately, I never made a nandroid backup before I had this problem, however, my daughter has an identical phone, could I make such a backup from hers, and use it on my phone, then just delete her settings etc?
I had no idea that just rooting would kill the stock ROM image, making the phone un-recoverable, I thought that rooting only gave me superuser permissions.

Looks like Clockworkmod doesn't support your device.... not sure what custom Recoveries are available for your phone... but rooting doesn't mess up the stock ROM, we (the users) mess up our ROMs. You're right when you said that rooting gives you superuser privileges, and with those privileges come the unfortunate ability to screws stuff up. In my case I have tons of backups and a custom Recovery whereby I can wipe the phone and restore if need be. I also have ADB installed and can use Fastboot commands if things go sideways. Basically if you're gonna root have a backup plan.
Can you perhaps follow an unrooting method? Then you could safely factory reset without losing the OS... you know...the more I think about this, the more I wonder if you could just use the factory reset option from within the phone's settings... on a custom ROM you'd never do it, but in your situation (no custom recovery or ROM) who knows, maybe it would work with a problem.... I'll ask a friend of mine and post back.
Edit: Never heard back, but in your case on the stock ROM without a custom Recovery you *should* be able to factory reset through the Privacy setting section of your settings. If you do lose root, simply re root and you're good to go.
Thanks, Well I am going to give it a try and see what happens, worst case, I will have to buy another phone.
EDIT: I had no problems with factory reset, thank you!

[Q] Sbfing questions

What do I backup when I sbf? Can I back up everything I need with TiBu pro? When I reboot my phone after sbfing, is it like getting it out of the box, but with a newer version? How do I restore everything? Will it save app data?
Sorry for all the questions, but I need to know.
Edit: Also, if it is like getting it out of the box, what happens to my verizon plan?

You can back up your apps and data with TiBu. After sbf your phone will be like new, out of box, and you will need to activate your phone. It does not effect your plan. You can restore your apps and data from TiBu after the sbf.

so do you HAVE to wipe after sbf? I thought I had read on here that people had successfully sbf's without a wipe? as your post would seem to suggest?
I sbf'd for the first time in forever tonight, but didn't wipe just yet cause I didn't feel like setting everything up from scratch again.
But I still have superuser listed in my app drawer, but I seem to no longer be rooted, and had to reactivate the phone.
If the "crashed" rom is the same as the sbf no wipe needed but it's a crapshoot if "crashed" is custom rom then sbf will need wiping!

not necessarily
im not exactly sure why sometimes you need a wipe, and sometimes you dont.
i havent sbfd enough times to figure that out cuz i can usually just nandroid restore back to where i need to be.
but i have definitly sbfd from a rom like eclipse and NOT needed a data wipe
and i have also sbf'd when just stock rooted with some tweaks and NEEDED data wipe to stop the bootloop.

if you did a sbf you no longer have root access
i am not sure if the superuser app will be wiped away at this point if you do a data wipe either, superuser is usually a /system/app am i correct?
BUT if it is a user app(found in /data/app) then you can just uninstall the superuser via manage applications
if it is system/app you NEED root access to be able to remove the apk
if you wanna check if you are rooted or not just try to use an app that requires root access, if you are not rooted it wont work.
so yes, you inferred correctly, a data wipe is not NECESSARY after EVERY sbf flash, BUT it IS needed if you get caught up in a bootoop, data wipe from android recovery is the only way to get out of a bootloop resulting from sbf flash.
it is aso recommnded to data wipe after a sbf flash just due to issues that may arise later and u might have to data wipe then to get rid of those issues, you might end up never needing to data wipe, but if you do run into issues, that will be the solution
sorry, im not tryng to ramble here, just trying to be clear as much as i can based on my experience and based on the many results of others and their feedback.(if i have caused confusion i apologize, just ask and i will try to clear it up, i just watched hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, if u have ever read the book or seen the movie you know where my mind is right now LMAO)
well I was just going back to stock for, ya know, reasons
I had been just rooted stock at the time. I really don't want to wipe and set everything up from scratch again.
Root is gone, BSR is not functional, but they both still show in the app drawer.
Pulldown toggles are gone.
I think I'm going to give it a shot like this and see what comes
I think you will WANT to SBF>Factory Reset if you wanna do the "reasons"...
But only bug noted(that I can remember anyway) is the battery jump.
TiBu will not restore your apps or data unless you are rooted. My suggestion... do a Nandroid Backup and then do provided instructions... at least this way you can go back to what you had before hand.
SBF will bring your phone to an Out-of-Box state... Exactly how you got it at Verizon.
Questions Asked:
What do I backup when I sbf?
Whatever you want. Nandroid will be for if you want to go back to what you were using. TiBu is for if you are going to apply:
-SBF to a different Android Version.
-Apply a New Rom.
Can I back up everything I need with TiBu pro?
Depends on what you are doing. TiBu is intended for apps and app data, also keep in mind to watch what you restore because you DO NOT want to restore the Settings and other system apps when you are going to a different android version(if you know the exceptions then you know the exceptions... Dragons lie ahead if you don't know what you are doing... just trust this advice).
This WILL NOT cover user configuration in the internal settings.
When I reboot my phone after sbfing, is it like getting it out of the box, but with a newer version?
Did you upgrade or downgrade? SBF is used to go back if you brick your device or need to be on a specific android version/kernel for applying a ROM. Yes it will be out of box state with a specific android version.(i.e. If you apply 2.2 SBF you go back to 2.2 android out-of-box. If you apply 2.3.3 SBF you go back to 2.3.3 android out-of-box. etc...)
How do I restore everything? Will it save app data?
Did you Nandroid or TiBu?
Nandroid:
Apply SBF to specific android version/kernel version you were previously on(you want to be on the kernel you had with said Nandroid backup). Boot into BSR/CWM then go to restore>Internal/External Memory>Restore>Wait for application of backup>Reboot.
TiBu
Once you are on a satisfied android version/kernel open TiBu and restore whatever apps you want. You get the option to restore App(s) Only, App(s) Data Only, or App(s) and Data.
Also, if it is like getting it out of the box, what happens to my verizon plan?
Nothing!! Your Verizon Plan is saved server side and is paired with your device MEID. After a SBF is applied, you can follow the initial boot and activate your phone or dial *228 at any time to activate your device.
I hope I answered everything for you sir. Good luck with SBFing...If you have ANY bootloops or crashes after SBFing do this please:
Boot into STOCK android recovery:
1. Turn device off or Battery Pull.
2. Hold Volume Down until step 4.
3. Turn on device.
4. You should see the Moto Red Logo with white text "Fastboot" at the top of your screen. Press volume down until white text reads Android Recovery.
5. Press Volume Up to select Android Recovery.
6. You should see a Blue Android with Yellow Exclamation point.
7. Press Volume Up + Volume Down at the same time.
8. Using Volume Keys, highlight "Factory/Data Reset" then press Power Button.
9. Select Yes.
10. Reboot once complete.
Side Note:
lol I'm really bored at work right now.

How To Factory Reset Note 3? Rewrite All Files … Without Tripping Knox…

How do you completely and totally factory reset the Note 3?
I rooted the device and backed up some files by renaming name. For example the the otacerts.zip file. I rename it to otacerts.zip.bak. When I did a factory reset in the recovery mode it was still there, when I did a factory reset in the software it was still there.
I want to do a factory reset where it erases absolutely everything and completely rewrites the rom and every file.
I thought when you did factory reset you usually see the android guy in the beginning rewriting the rom to the drive, but now it just wipes and resets but leaves all files pretty much the same.
How do I get around this? Do I have to use Kies 3? I thought I read somewhere that even Kies the official app can trip Knox.
Is there another way to reset the rom and rewrite the rom and all the files?

So phones now a days no longer have the ROMS saved on to the phones where they do a complete rewrite or copy of the ROM onto the drive? You have to manually flash them now with software?
This process will trip KNOX right? Even if I use KIES or ODIN and only flash exacty factory ROM back on? Or will it not trip KNOX if I use stock ROM to flash like this one?
SPR-N900PVPUBMJ4-20131028151254
Is there anyway to flash that ROM above without tripping KNOX?
I can't believe that ROM is not on the drive already and re-written when you do a Factory Reset.
If I use this ...
andromint-Odin-v3-09
to flash this ...
SPR-N900PVPUBMJ4-20131028151254
Will I trip KNOX?
And if it will is there any way to do a Factory Reset without tripping KNOX. Not a basic reset a complete rewrite of the ROM?
If not I guess I am screwed and I will have to trip KNOX in order to completely reset my phone. That is outrageous.
P.S. Will I trip KNOX if I use this one click method?

I rooted with Kingo. So my KNOX is at Zero. I un-rooted with Kingo and when I booted in recovery it said that my system was still official.
My question remains that if I want to do a complete recovery erasing absolutely everything and leaving nothing is there a way to do this without using a custom recovery program like ODIN or Kies?
I do not want to merely erase my Data and do a reset. I want to reload the ROM. Is it just me or did not phones use to do this? If you did a factory reset on an older phone it would reboot and you would see the Android guy at the beginning and everything would be completely fresh with nothing left over. Is this a thing of the past? Do manufactures not keep the Stock Images on the phones any more? What is the point of a factory reset if you can't do that? They should just call it Data Wipe, or "Wipe Your Personal Data" button.

A factory reset will delete your personal data and all apps and reset the phone to the unmodified out of the box ROM or whatever ROM you're running. You can download the same or another ROM and install it with Odin if you want to overwrite what's there. Even if you could erase everything from your phone, I don't know of any tools to load a ROM to a completely empty phone.

So there is no ROM on my phone to go completely back to? You know like the old Dell Streak or older Android phones. Seemed like they had the ROM somewhere on the phone and it would reload everything. Meaning that like if you change a system file to .bak because you didn't want to checking something every time you booted up. Well if you did a Factory Reset you would have to rename that file again to .bak again because it re-set everything literally.
I am still on 4.3 and I did not upgrade to 4.4.2.
I just want to reset my phone to absolutely stock experience even over writting everything including anything that I might of changed in the system files by renaming something to .bak I should not be able to find anything that I did in the past with my phone when doing a complete factory reset.

I did a factory reset but like I mention earlier it kept my modified files of OTA update so I cannot receive updates. I did that because I was tired of rececing notifications about the OTA because I do not want to update my phone.
The surprise came in when I did the factory reset my modifications where still there. That is precisely my point. It does not appear that a factory reset is a true reset but just a personal data eraser.
On the old Androids it would take like 10 to 15 minutes to Factory Reset because it was actually rewriting the entire ROM again from an image built into the phone. Now it just seems that it erases personal data and that is it. Well at least on my anyway, unless there is an error or something. I mean do they have the 1.9 GB file on factory ROM on the phone or do they not?
I do not want to erase my phone first. I just want it to take the original stock image that should be on my phone and completely reset it and over write all information on my phone to new leaving nothing except new image.
Is my factory image corrupt? Am I missing something?
If I remember right, Windows phones worked like that but Android doesn't. You were only able to rename system files because you were rooted. You can't expect a restore to undo anything you did when you were rooted, You can either root again and rename them back or Odin the 4.3 stock ROM again to replace/rewrite all files. That will replace the original files but your renamed ones will still be there.

I just wanted to know for future use if there was a way to completely wipe a Note 3 with absolutely nothing remaining without tripping KNOW. Not just wipe user data.
Do not mean to sound redundant but if I reset my phone by re flashing the stock ROM on it via ODIN or KIES will I trip KNOX?
