[Q] Looking for an AOSP Rom. Suggestions? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

What's everyone using these days? I've been on stock Sense for awhile and am sick of freeze-ups.
Preferences:
AOSP-based
Working GPS
Minimal bootloops
Looking forward to your responses. Thanks!

Wow, no responses. Where's the love? Sheesh...
Anyway, here goes.
A good start would be Toolchain. Good customizations, smooth, and stable.

One of my favorites is SlimBean. Not sure why...but I like it a lot. Not too many options to make you feel overwhelmed.
As for working GPS, flash this fix. I'm not sure which roms have GPS working, but this fix will not break those that work, and will fix those that are broke. Flash it along with the rom of choice.

There's my 2 cents.

Tommy! We all know how these threads always end up locked...
In before lock! Lol
I would recommend carbon or vanir. Both top notch ROMs IMO.

+1 Carbon is my go to ROM
Next is Dirt Unicorns been running for a few days now.

Such a post form Mr. Tomato? Ive always liked rootbox.

Thanks for the response gang. I ended up flashing Evervolv. Super smooth and great on battery life.
Need to get group messaging to work nicely. Had it in carbon and can't wait to get it back.

Evervolv and codefireX would be two of the most vanilla experiences available here. But both always deliver! I'm running Vanir, but am planning on switching in the upcoming weeks

CM10.2 definately!

Any chance CM 10.2 has group messaging?

not sure on that but to your question
want customization?
Dirty Unicorns
Beanstalk
Illusion Project
after all you should try out every AOSP ROM.

Thanks for the suggestions. Im not really interested in customization at this point. Just need something that doesn't reboot on me once a day, dependable GPS, and as it turns out group messaging.
On another note. Haven't had such good battery life in awhile. Evervolv is doing great

Check the message app setting regarding group messaging... I'm pretty sure cm 10.2 has it in there.... I also thought I remembered seeing it in evervolv, but I haven't been on that in a while.
Today was a slow day in the ER so I flashed NIN's carbon build and so far its running smoothly...

Sweet thanks. Unless I'm completely missing it Evervolv doesn't appear to have it.
I'll flash NINs build once i get my hands on it. Glad to be back on AOSP based ROMs.

AOSP on EVO LTE?

So, with the recent release of HTC kernel source for the LTE, does this mean we might see some AOSP love? The multitasking in Sense is killing me... I can't fathom how my OG EVO performed better than this phone (not faster, just better).

There are already some "almost fully functional" AOSP ROM's in the Original Development section. I'm sure the recent release of source by HTC will help. All in due time. The OG was an amazing device for development and hopefully the LTE will be there soon.
It's coming. There have been plenty of threads on this recently. Give it time ky man

Jeez, this is just like one of those games of telephone where the initial message gets really really warped and confusing.
kernel.org is not down. It was hacked last year but has been back up for months. Google searching provides no news story beyond August of last year.

I'm also anxiously waiting an AOSP based rom for the LTEvo. I'd love to see AOKP and/or CM9 on here ... anyone know if work is being done to fix the issues with either of those roms on this phone? (Or any musings of official support?)

Indeed, jellybean is coming! There's a discussion on the CM9 thread about CM10 and jellybean (Deck has a bootable build!) exciting times.
Also there's a pure AOSP non-CM build by preludedrew on his twitter that you can download and test. No radio is working atm so it would just be a proof of concept of how Jellybean runs (spoiler: superfast) on our phone. Check it out if you want but keep your nandroid backup nearby.

Sorry but almost working sorta kinda ports are not gonna cut it .. I do appreciate what these devs are doing just think they may need some extra "umph" to move em along.
They are building from source. These aren't half assed ports.
Rather than start a bounty why not just donate to them

Why no AOSP/AOKP ?

So I was really excited when I got this phone to either flash AOKP/Jelly Bean/AOSP ROMs, but when I looked at the already very limited amount of these ROMs they didn't have much working. Why is it that so many are still in alpha and don't work properly?
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
Well kernel source was just released like a week or 2 ago and it takes some time. But now that we have the source the roms will start coming
CM9 is doing pretty damn well at the moment. I've been running the newest build all day with no lock ups, reboots, or lag. There are only a few bugs left..

Some are, some aren't. If your looking to aosp roms, the development section here on xda isn't where they are posted. You'll have to go to irc chat for cm9/10 and Twitter for drews builds.

Roms Mods Hacks etc

So I've been wondering what roms should be seen on this device, anything from ports to better sense. and I thought why not ask the community what they would like to see in a rom etc. the developers are nothing with out users and im fishing to give a nice gift for xmas, ive got 3 roms out currently but I really am dying to know what you yes you the user wants to see on the device.
leave a reply below any suggestions thoughts ideas etc are welcome.

Sinister, you've been really kicking a$$ around here lately, thank you. I'm super glad you got this device.
I love AOKP. The release here doesn't get much attention. My vote/opinion is for another build of AOKP with some of the 4.2 stuff (KB,Cam) built in, it basically needs to be rebased to work with ThickLizards komodo kernels and merged with AOKP for their latest features. Tmartins last release was a LONG time ago, and he really doesn't like AOSP, just doin it to learn and for a challenge.
tl/dr: AOKP update. :beer::thumbup:
Edit: how did my post get more thanks than sinisters :screwy: ? Maybe thanked the wrong post lol ? Thanks, again sin. (And thanks for the thanks everybody lol).

My vote is for any aosp type of 4.2

Definitely appreciate your crazy ass sinister (seen your pics in kao's thread  my friend does the zombie run and walk and does her **** like that) I definitely agree with scott but what about a vanilla 4.2 build? Linaro compiled and -o3 optimized
would love default messaging app to be able to handle group sms texting with iphone users!
Yeah, what youdug said.
hurled from my AOKP'd Evo LTE. Enjoy.
I've been out of the game for a while, so still catching up on the new stuff, but I'd love to see a Sense ROM with the customization options of that Pokemon ROM, and I can't wait to see a JB sense ROM and 4.2 AOKP-esque build (with customization options like AOKP). I just really like hiding the clock and battery in the status bar.
ill see about AOKP and for meizu os not sure if I can get it working. if they have a device hat is hxdpi then maybe. as for sense Imessaging. interesting
I'd love to see a JB ROM with Sense 4+ perhaps ported from the One X or the new Droid DNA, I hear they use the same SoC as our device! (At least some variations of the One X)
I don't know if this is what your looking for , but in the camera app I would love a button on the main screen to switch from front to back camera . It's so annoying having to go to settings.

Correct there are no public releases yet, jellybean is as stable as ICS in my opinion for what I use, but the developers are doing very extensive testing to make sure that the average user doesn't have any more risk flashing jellybean than they do with ICS. When it is released, its because Chad and the other guys working at the source level feel it's relatively safe and secure.

I'm thinking that rezound development is better now than its ever been. We have aosp, senseless, sense 3.6, sense 4.0, sense 4.1 and a sense 4.5 test build. That's just OS versions. There's more roms actively being updated and developed now than I can ever remember. PM me if you have some questions on recommendations or where to find good roms.
I'm currently running Ecliptic Rez with a nice kernel snuzzo and hawknest built for that rom and there's an update getting ready to drop.

I'd love to check out JB but I went back to a Sense 3.6 ROM (Rezone Redux) from Rage 1.9 because of issues with my phone not switching towers properly. I'd often lose data (especially when transitioning between 3G and 4G) and have to turn the radio off and on to get it back without having to wait forever. Airplane mode became my most used quick setting.

Okay, I'm having trouble attaining LTE on my device. I change the settings to the corresponding network from global to LTE/CDMA/EVdO. So i'm not sure if i did something wrong.
EDIT: It literally took a good 5-10 mins to get a signal for LTE. Very unusual but it was a fresh start/install. I'll see if I can mess around with it more. Also, messing around with "Halo", its pretty cool, bit buggy. ( A notification popped up, slide to open, and it force crashed). Overall, cool ROM. This might be my new ROM .
To be honest I never liked halo so I always disable it but I will say...quite impressive with the port snuzzo....its the difference the rezound needs for balance...and this is a great difference. I'd say this is in my top 3 ROMs of all time to use if you like to modify...and I'll say all 3 of those ROMs have been ported by 3 different developers for the rezound...you are one of those special enough to earn this title in my eyes

I'm still not sure I get what ION is for/does. I know it's a different memory management, but I thought everything going ION was supposed to make ROMs more compatible across phones, which doesn't really seem to be the case... I'm also unsure how memory management affects all the other parts of the phone so significantly.
\Don't go wasting your time on my account. I was just curious, if you've tried before and it doesn't work, it may not be worth it. I'll give Carbon a go, may like it better anywho.
Thanks for bringing another awesome ROM to the vigor, snuzzo! I'll be giving this one a try, since I was running CarbonRom on my grouper for a while and liked it pretty well. I assume this one works great with Funky?
