Well i find it Super intereting to modify and loading android onto the touch pad, but i have a asus TF, Works great, Love it.. but wondering would it be worth the hassle just to have a new toy to play with (mearly jut that reason)
i think a Bestbuy 40miles away may have a new shippment in today. but debating weather to go and buy 3 (me, mother, step dad) what your thoughts about this?
I think a better question is, can you find a Touchpad to buy? If you get one, you will definately be happy with the purchase. And if not, there are plenty of us out here that will be more than willing to take it off your hands.

sounds good i would say yes and they is plenty of people who would take it off your hands
You should definitely buy at the PRICE at least for the hardware
yea i know the hardware veiw point im like "what for $99!!" but currently waiting to find as rumor has it.. new sale is bound to happen soon, ( as i read from many forum posts) but i think if i do I will buy it.. but i wont be heart broken if i dont...
Don't forget that if you get a TouchPad, you can also register for 50GB free storage at Box.net (you have to do it via the app on the TouchPad). Depending on what your storage habits and needs are, that might be worth taking into account.
I would say you should not buy it just so I have a better chance of getting another
Why do you need another tablet? That'd be my consideration.

IF you can find one, buy it. Worst case someone will buy it from you if you don't like it.
Also I think Best Buy will limit you to one per customer, at least that's what one employee said his store was going to do.
well thismorning the local bb got a shipment and it was gone before i got there at 10am. Didnt think people of brownsville knew... :| but i think ill give up. Causeyeaidont need another tab, but wanted touse and play with it, moding hacking..etc. , i ill only by if i stumple on a online sale, but i now wont go out my way to buy one, good luck to all on getting a touchpad

one for development/hacking, one for useage. i assumed that would be obvious
I didn't see any reason not to buy it. If you can find one the are practically giving them away. I have a Xoom and love it but I can never have too many toys. Got one at Aarons rents yesterday.

The process I went through to figure out if a TP was really a good buy was to figure out what exactly I needed it for. I just can't justify spending $400-600 on a tablet that's not going to fill an integral part of my technology needs, but $100-200 (depending on size/shipping/etc) is a reasonable amount for me, even if Android never gets ported to it.
The UI is attractive, and there are enough games and apps that I could let my 3 year old play with it while supervised and it wouldn't be the end of the world if something happened to it.
While your situation is likely different, hopefully there is a bit of insight into my personal decision making process in deciding if a TP was a good value or not.
Of course you should buy it...then flip it for 2-3x the price. Then put that money towards an iPad. Then jailbreak and hack to your heart's content and/or develop apps for a viable market.
Then sell the iPad for near full retail right before the next iteration drops and either buy the newest version or three Nook Colors for your family members.

lamest advice ever
especially when there's people out there that honestly want this device to use or to develop with. this is xda, not slickdeals.

He wants to tinker around on android but he already has a transformer and you think his mother and step dad want to develop on a dead platform?
How are they going to use it? Browse the web one tab at a time? Read e-books with the broken app? Play movies on the gimped player? My guess is you don't actually have one.
My advise is not only solid but it's based on experience with all of the devices in question. But perhaps his parents are xda members
well i know they wont develop on this, i had mentioned to them its a tablet and if they wanted one they can get one (if found) for $100, i told her to look at youtube reviews about the TP, she liked and wanted one.. i wasnt one to mod, toy, develop, and since its not bad hardware. and i dont want to turn around and sell for $250 as i have seen on Craigslist.
we mainly want one due to the firesale Price of $99, but i am unablet to find one so i dont think i will get one. i am no noob when it comes to electronics and software. i wouldnt get a ios device since i dont like the feel of ios, nor apple software. android is nice love it, webos, havent really had enough time to play with it but seemed to be promising if HP let it grow more.nook color is a nice toy, but not really my flavor, now i think ill retire my TF (for modding)when TF2 comes out (Kal-El) platform, so yea

Yeah...so he should go buy a real tablet at full price and not screw people that want to actually develop for the touchpad...
Amazon is coming out with what will probably be a cheaper android tablet soon
To the OP: I hope you find what you are looking for though from your previous comment above. You seemed to thought things through at least
Pending on buying.. worth it?
The only reason why I'm even considering buying this is because I saw that android will be able to hopefully run on this and id like to see honeycomb as well as ubuntu on this and the price has become cheaper. I know you all here have it so i was wondering your personal opinions on the device.

Hannspad or HP Touchpad?
Hello!
Lately I have been looking at the Hannspad, but since the kernel hasn't been released I assume that the custom roms aren't as good as they could be (or am I wrong?).
So I was looking at the HP Touchpad instead, which has very nice specs (better than Hannspad? 1GB Ram & 1.2GHz snap, 10 point touch! Better price) and Android development for it is slowly starting for it, 2.3.5 is working and I hope they'll get it functional soon!
So what are your thoughts? Should I look at the Touchpad and see how development goes over the next three weeks or get the Hannspad ?
I'll buy in the beginning of next month, and I'd like to have a somewhat functional tablet, so what are your thoughts? Will the HP ever get ported so good, that it'll work 100%? How about hardware accel.
Thank you <3

Hi Mr. highway, my name is Tom and I'm an alcoholic.
What size nook tablet do you have?
What do you like about it?
What hacks have you applied to it, if any?
That's all for now, don't forget to write back or i'll be depressed and have to call the suicide hotline like usual. I think they blocked my number.

Im just the moderator around here, tom.
I don't own the tablet, wouldn't mind owning it though.
Ok, fair enough. I got mine for 125 on craigslist and threw cm7 on it via sd card. Unfortunately I can't really get a stable custom rom on the internal because it's an 8gb model. I really don't like the nook tablets vanilla firmware, it's really ugly and not intuitive.

I own the glacier. Use to own a magic a espresso. Might have a dinc2 as a development device (a really big might), trying to get money so I can upgrade to a one s, kinda hard jobless.
I've been looking at two phones; this and One X.
I think both are top end phones but I'm unsure of which to get.
Either, I wait two-ish weeks for the One X to restock or I could go pick up a Note this weekend.
So quick question: any decent roms for the Note and/or overclocking/overclocking modules?
Hmmmmm............depends on what you want...have a look at the Dev forum and see if ya like any of the ROMS there. I for one have and love the Note haha hence me being in the Note forum but you may like the One I dunno I think only the iphone groupies like to have decisions made for them (<--- recovering groupie haha so no offense) Big screen is by far the deciding factor for me and I'm not a big gamer

If you us the GB ROMs there are a few and most if not all can be overclocked.
Since ICS has yet to be released for the I717 we do not have a kernel that can be overclocked. Once the source code is available then let the over clocking begin.
I have used several of the GB ROMs and ICS ROMs all have their unique feature and you would have to try them to find what is good for you. Or like myself keep installing the next new thing and play with if for a bit.
Either phone is nice, I had a Dell Streak that I kept cracking the screen on and was done with it and jumped on the Note as soon as I could. I have not looked at the HTC much.
Don't for get to hit the THANKS button if I helped.
Note +AOKP=goooooood.
yea i just renewed contract on the 14th and was deciding on these two myself. i went with the note for the screen size and i can remove the battery with ease. sometimes you get in a sticky situation and need to remove and re-install the battery. the one X is very fast for sure, and the picture quality is great, but i want my removable battery and the option for sd. the note is quick enough stock and even better on a dev rom, but not the speed of one x. i dont regret the note at all.
I think HTCs days have come and pass. Samsung is the future. This is from a tech prospective and a financial one.

hey guys,
looking to get an inexpensive tablet for the 3 year old for christmas, and found a good price on a refurb nook tablet. just a few simple questions....
1. how easy is it to root?
2. if i don't root, how easy is it to sideload apps?
3. can i install a different launcher (kid friendly)?
4. any tips or concerns giving this to a toddler?
i am pretty confident about the rooting (rooted htc hero, hp touchpad, galaxy nexus) but just wanted to get some opinions and ideas. the price is comparable to one of those cheap chinese tablets, so i figured i would explore this as it will probably be better supported, better constructed, and more durable.
thanks!

Easy if you happen to be on firmware 1.4.0, not so easy on any other firmware.

If you have more than 1, expect them to fight over it (I have a 4 and 2 year old who want to play on mine constantly)

I bought one of the cheap Chinese tablets you're talking about for my son for Christmas. The bonus is that it's pre-rooted, the drawback is there's no other development going on for it, but he won't care. And at $70 (now $80), it was cheaper than anything else.
thanks for the insight, lz.
after doing a little more research, i may just go with the boot off the microsd card for the time being. with that being said, i wanted to know what the most stable rom is right now. cm9 or cm10 and who's build? and the consensus is to go with a sandisk class 4 microsd, right?
again this will be for a toddler who shouldn't notice, but i want to give him something that won't freeze or crash on him every 30 minutes. he'll probably be playing toddler games or netflix.

I run AOKP and it's been rock solid for me. Pretty sure that most/all of the newer JB-based builds are going to be really stable.
Suggestion:
For whatever launcher you use, and I recommend something other than the stock B&N one, grab an icon pack (zip file) that includes whatever games/apps you want for your toddler, and use Desktop Visualizer to set up larger shortcuts (mine are 2x2 with 2 at 4x4) for their hands. Seems to work really well.
Games my toddlers love:
Angry Birds (all of them, but I think the Star Wars one won't run unless you upgrade to 5-touch, which means not being able to also run stock)
Where's my Perry?
Where's my Water?
Saving Yello
thanks again for the quick reply. do you know if 5 touch AOKP will boot off of the SD card? will be getting the nt next week and possibly be hitting you up for more answers, if that's alright.
my son loves angry birds as well. he also likes sneezies and paplinko (no real educational value, though). he is usually pretty good with any educational app. loves the variety of being able to do anything.

I'm not sure if any of the 5-touch ROMs will run off of SD, but it is possible. I run mine internally, so I've never tried.
A little heads up regarding Star Wars, I'm currently running my NT on Cm7 (I know, right?) and SW is working fine on two touch.

LZ, in the vein of this conversation, I've been pretty eager to upgrade to CM10, and was wondering if you have any experience with the following apps in your CM10 version...
Tapatalk
Facebook
Temple Run
Modern Combat
Order & Chaos (very important hehe)
Thanks in advance

Facebook yes, though not recently. I have it on my phone, so I don't really need to also have it on the tablet.
No for Tapatalk, but the XDA app runs just fine.
Haven't run any of the other ones, but I know at least Temple Run was a part of the focus on getting 5 touch working for us.
This looks interesting and thought I would share it: http://www.meenova.com/st/p/m3r.html
Crap, put this in the wrong section. Mods - can you magi-move it to the appropriate section please? Sorry about that.
I'm glad these guys got funded and now have product to ship. I just ordered one (for $12 how couldn't you?) It's pretty much the first of its kinds in terms of it being a small form factor OTG. I'll probably put my backups on it since they take up a lot of space.
Well that looks promising. You guys have any luck with it yet? When flashing backups or installing new roms from SD does it recognize as ext SD?
