[Q] CM 10.2 with crpalmer kernel - HTC Droid DNA

Hello,
Currently I'm running CM 10.2 with 3.4.10-CM-gbce7128 kernel. I'm interested in crpalmer kernel as I have read some very good things about it. However, I'm kind of a noob.
Where can I download crpalmer? Can I flash it without wiping and reloading CM 10.2?
Thanks for your help!

There is a thread in the original android develop. by crpalmer. You download it there, then boot into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik, then flash the kernel and profit.

Awesome! So I don't need to reflash CM 10.2?

No you do not need to reflash CM10.2
If you do then you will overwrite the kernel.

you're gonna need to reflash crpalmer's kernel after every time you flash a ROM.

Has anyone had any issues flashing crpalmer with CWM?
I keep getting..
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
Installation aborted.
I appreciate all suggestions.
Thanks!

Maybe a partial download? Try downloading it again...

I see what I did...
I downloaded the original v1.0. I loaded the latest v4.7.4 however I don't notice any difference. From what I read, there is supposed to be all kinds of new customization options that I didn't have before.
PS - It is awesome that crpalmer himself is helping me!
Thanks!

[Q] Rom manager is misbehaving

Hi everyone, I have a problem with Rom Manager:
on any rom/kernel I tried it so far, Rom Manager could not make a Backup. I always get:
CWM-based Recovery V6.0.1.0
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to seek in /cache/update.zip (Invalid argument)
E:signature verifivation failed
It however gives the option to
Yes - Install untrusted zip
if I install that, the instalation is aborted
After searching the Internet for a while, it seems that Rom Manager does not work on GT-I9100. However, I still have a lot of Questions:
-Why does Rom Manager search and try to install a update.zip? If i backup via recovery it just backups.
-are there alternatives? not counting cf-kernel with CWM.
-why does Fluxis rom manager in his xxTweaker app work?
-why does the prograss bar move when I just do nothing after the signature verification fails?
Any help and suggestions are very much appreciated

When I used ROM manager about 1 year ago it didn't work for me either and everyone said to me back then that if you have GT-I9100 you should not use ROM manager. Now I use Siyah Kernel and the built in custom CWM and it uses chainfires CWM app modded to Siyah and that works perfectly. In the fluxxi kernel he has probably modded ROM manager so it doesn't download a new update.zip but the one that already exists.

@scarye32: yes, that's what i found out so far. any possibility of making backups with custom names that you know of?
Yeh Rom manager kept telling me that it couldn't mount the custom ROM I was flashing but I just booted to recovery and flashed it manually and I worked fine...

Do you want to keep your kernel or can you flash another to get a custom CWM? If you are willing to change I would suggest Siyah Kernel as it comes with a custom CWM that is touch and works flawlessly

I don't think siyah kernel works on jb... but i will try when i have the time... on ics i just accepted the fact and used fluxi kernel which also has a modded rom manager which works fine. the app even stays installed when changing kernel and keeps working to an extent. rom manager works, but i am not trying the more basic kernel-related stuff for the time being...

[Q] How to prevent my kernel from being flashed everytime I upgrade a nightly?

Hi guys,
I have searched for this a lot and couldn't find a solution for this. Is there a way so that I can prevent my existing kernel (Siyah) from being overwritten by the kernel from CM each time I upgrade my nightly build?
Please help me if there is a way!
Thanks and regards,

I'll take it you mean via the integrated OTA updater? Not as far as I'm aware, at least not without editing rom so it would be quicker to simply flash rom then flash Siyah kernel back.

Thanks TheATHEiST, I thought so and I do the same. I mean flash Siyah right after flashing the nightly.
Why this came into my mind was because of the fact that on my other phone: Nexus S, I have the stock ROM from Google. I had that rooted when I was on 4.0.4. When the update for 4.1 came I flashed the ROM over the OTA.
During the process, CWM Recovery informed me that the ROM is trying to remove your root rights and overwrite your kernel, which I didn;t allow and my root was kept.
I was wondering why doesn't the same happen in this case. Any ideas?

Thanks, doesn't seem like it was so simple. I had tried that many a times before posting this on to the forum. When I try to install CM10.2 again through CWM, it errors out with (Status 7) error. I did a Wipe/Factory Data Reset, Wipe Dalvik Cache and format system. Tried again but the same error re-appeared (status 7).
So I had to reinstall CM11 and GAPPS for CM11 again to make the phone work with some old bugs again . Camera not working, lag in screen rotation, stock browser not working etc.,
Thanks

Thanks, not sure on what the issue with the Rom could be. I have rooted the device and then installed Blazing Kernel V3 with CWM 6.
Before I decided to upgrade my phone to experimental CM11, I used to apply all CM10.2 Nightlies without any issues.
I have tried to install even CM10.1 stable release through CWM v.6 and the same error comes up.
Further, I have always downloaded ROM's from download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=i9100g or through the CMupdater in the phone.
Can you please let me know, what version of Blazing Kernel should I using on GT-i9100G and how do I flash it safely without fearing of the "Sleep of death" happening.
Thank you.

BMM - ERR Status 6 - CM11 Installation

I have tried multiple times to install CyanogenMod 11 on the System Slot with BMM. I keep getting
Code:
E:Error in /tmp/update.zip

I tried flashing from sd and sideload...
this is the result of sideload.
Why is it doing this? Can't figure it out...

In the CM11 official forum shows a lot of times how to change the zip files to make it compatible with BMM.
Is easy but honestly, I recommend you to change to Safestrap, yes, I know, BMM is better but right now almost nobody uses it anymore.

That's not true,a lot of people still using BMM,including me.
And it's still better than SS, there is more things that can be done with it.

Don't get me wrong, I know there is A LOT of people using BMM (including me until a few days ago). When I say "nobody" I'm refering to the support and compatibility: almost every thread related with new ROMs take as reference SS not BMM.
I'm fully sure BMM is totally better than SS. I did change because I was tired to zip, unzip, copy and replace files everytime I was going to install an update with BMM.
As soon as that problem is solved, I hope get back to BMM.
Only cm11 builds need little work to be bmm flashable. But every other rom works great at bmm... Gummy, slimkat, liquid, moke... So i disagree with u its only related to cm11.
how can i fix the cm11 zip file to be flashable with bmm?

Flashing CM after HTC's official 4.3 update.

I am having a really hard time with my evo lte!
Problem:
I had CM nighties running prior to downloading and using the official HTC RUU for sense 5 and android 4.3.
I ran the RUU and everything was fine, my antennas, bootloader, etc updated.
I decided to go back to CM so I rooted (attempted to later you will find out what went wrong) and installed CWM (latest one 6.0.4.6). I downloaded a cm rom and flashed it with the latest Gapps but every time I flash CM's nightly, it fails. I factory reset and rebooted and it asked me if I wanted to root? <--- think the problem is there... But anyway, I can flash Gapps fine but not CM's roms. I tried stable nightlies and different ones.
Any ideas?

You must flash a version with updated partition support as the 4.3 update changed everything. CM nightlies do not support this, they only work with those who have no updated to the new format that came with 4.3. You'll need to get a build with the support commit included. Fairly easy to do yourself if you have the time and storage on your hard drive.

Thanks for the speedy reply! Quick question, does this mean I need to find an older RUU and use it on my phone before I reroot and try again? Also if you do not mind, can you post quick steps to doing this maybe with links?
The help is greatly appreciated! This is my daily driver phone.

If you want to flash nightlies, you will have to RUU back to an older version. You'll have to run the RUU and go through all the steps again, yes. An alternative is to use ROMs that have been updated to support the new partitions. I believe CaptainThrowback has a list in Android Development that lists all the builds that support. Not included in the list is Pac-Rom which can be found in Original Android Development.
