Hey guys, I've been looking into getting either the G-tab 10.1 or 8.9 flashing the latest ICS roms. My question is, do you think I should wait until Samsung releases the ICS source code or go ahead and bite the bullet? I'm well aware that no rom is stable and each will have their bugs, but it seems you either get a decent experience where you have some problems or the rom just sucks. I have a touchpad and ICS it's great, not to many major issues. Has anyone got their G-tab running ICS with no major issues? Wifi working, no FC's, HD youtube, minimal screen flickering/rotation issues, etc... I know it's asking for alot, but i'm confused how my HP can work so well with android being ported over, and the G-tab experience be so crappy and it has android baked in.
hey! Looking to buy the S Tablet in the next few days but I am not seeing a lot of DEV for it. Are there any ROMS for it and is there a standard root process for it? The tablet looks pretty nice but I wanna make sure I can do the things I have done with previous tablets
i don't think anyone would advice you to buy tablet s right now not even the xperia tablet s, probably not the xperia tablet z either.
Their lot issues atm, and sony is awfully silent.
nope.. we don't have any rom.. only Root on ICS.. and some minor tweaks!

shutdown issues especialy and the fact that sony is slacking a lot on jelly bean for this tablet.
the tablet s is not even known if it will get it, the xperia tablet s would get in february theor not any news yet.
Been promised some tough by sony community manager and some one from belgium.
thanks for your help! I decided on the ASUS TF300t. I has the quadcore 1.2. I do like the size and shape of the sony more but figured i would go with something that, right now, appears to have a little more time with the DEV's.
thanks for your help though

Probably should have waited for the Xperia Tablet Z...that one's developed by the Sony Mobile team (as opposed to the VAIO team that developed the Tablet S) and thus will have infinitely better support (Sony Mobile is really good with that stuff). And it's just a sweet tablet.

Personaly would gone for google nexus.
xperia z i really would't take anything atm from sony with current attitude they are having.
With asus you just have to be 100% sure you have no issues at all aka make sure you have no stuck dead pixels or just return it their quality control can be verry bad.

So now there's a Z Ultra Google Play Edition with pure android 4.4.
How do we get that rom?
Brilliant! now to just wait for someone to buy it.
It´s a huge step forward for Sony and the community. Looking forward to see some nice ROMs!
I can't decide which to order. Will any of the Sony stuff be on the Google Play edition? "bravia engine" and the sort

X-Reality for Mobile should be available as long as you don't unlock the phone. And as far as I know it'll only be active for hardware accelerated video, not for photos.
Wow, did not see that coming!! This ROCKS. :good: Can't wait to get this rom on my phone.

Do you think the Playstation Mobile app will still come on the device? If it doesn't, do you think Sony would give some way to install like for that one HTC device? Hmm. Likewise for the Walkman app.

Google should give us europeans some love too

Other play editions are vanilla android, I think its a fair assumption this will be too - I doubt Sony will roll out both 4.3 and 4.4, with sony apps/engines at the same time. Pure Vanilla 4.4 or Sony 4.3 most likely the plan (in my humble opinion)
Stil great news for XZU 4.4 drivers, libs etc

Great question, I actually have both versions on the way. Gonna play with both of em and decide which one I want. If I can't use the the dual shock 3 natively I might go with the Sony version.

Guys brace yourselves for the influx of custom roms
you could very easily convert the HTC One from the Sense version to a GPE one, once the ROM is out, anyone will be able to move theirs to the GPE version!
This is the best news! Yet one more positive point about my decision to get the ultra over the note 3!
This is great news! My Ultra LTE C6806 from the Sony Store is on the Fedex truck for delivery today. I really wanted as-close-to-ASOP phablet as I could get, and the Ultra fit the bill. Hopefully I will be able to turn this into a Google Edition device!
Better start researching how to root this baby!
I'm so excited but this is soooo weird... I thought this massive massive phone was a niche device. Why didnt they do the Z1? I guess I understand why though, they already have the N5, the S4 And the ONE, so instead of adding another 5 inch google play phone, or a slightly larger note 3, they figure why not go with the biggest.
I'm not complaining it just seems so random.
So how does this help us? and It won't really be helping for a few weeks/ months no?
I like I want the gpe rom.

It will help us as soon as Google releases the factory images. When? It could happen an hour from now or a week. We don't know.
Wow this is fantastic news, i really wanted stock android in a phablet....since i already own xperia z ultra C6802, does anybody knw how complicated it would be to flash stock android form the Google edition phone?

It's as easy as walking (god, i hope you're not in a wheelchair). We just need Google to release the factory images, which can take everything between now and a week or so. We don't know.
Hello.
I am so angry right now, many cellphone makers say that their top phones will receive andriod 5.0 90 days after its release. But my xperia z2 will get it like in february? If this is true i will buy a nexus 5 again.
Or maybe someone is working on a lollipop rom for the xperia? I dont need the stock camera and so on. Just want full material design with animations and so on. I know i can get themes now but it isnt the same!
Disregard.

When does Lollipop actually see the light of day? 90 days from today is February.
People will most likely port AOSP 5.0 before official xperia firmware comes out so Waiting for android Lolipop wont be a huge wait
And whats the point of being impatient at all, thats not been a good idea ever since Google I/O 2014, just wait some time, cant rush starting from scratch

That's what I'm hoping for. Yesterday was official Lollipop rollout day for those highly privileged Nexus folks. They'll be getting it OTA any minute now if not already. So jelly, but I'd rather use it on my Xperia We should be seeing some early ports in the coming weeks, I think. They've already had L preview ports on a few other non-Nexus phones that I've seen. It doesn't seem to have any bizarre hangups that would delay things (knocks on wood).
If anyone heard anything please post it here!

Maybe learn to understand how long 90 days is.. if you don't like it wait 90 days with a HTC or samsung.. or get a nexus 6 (not released and may not be for a while yet) and enjoy the goodness sooner..
I seriously getting sick of the constant bleating about Sony being unresponsive, people being angry because they have had to wait more than 3 nanoseconds for an update, people being sick of Sony... especially with the Z2, as the new 4.4.4 update sounds to be pretty major and lollipop is a whole new ball game due to ART being used, which I believe Sony disabled to to app incompatibility.. (please correct me if I am wrong)
This new generation / culture or wanting everything immediately has me wanting to live on an Island with my wife ... total population of 2..
If you are not happy with your phone... get something else and go and bleat on their forums..
Steve
The Nexus 10 was the first 10" tablet I had and it was the most enjoyable tablet I had. Haptic feedback, camera flash, two decent sounding speakers, and the screen size were all pretty nice bonuses.
I'm looking to buy another tablet in the future. Ideally, I want 10" or larger, and the ability to use custom ROMs (does the N10 still have official Cyanogenmod support?) or even better, native Linux. The Nexus 10 seems pretty affordable nowadays, and as long as I can throw a clean ROM onto it (AOSP or CM), I'd be pretty good to go.
So, would a Nexus 10 be a good investment nowadays, or is there another tablet that would be a better choice?

I bought mine in Dec. of 2012 and still use it every day. I've tried a lot of ROMs in the last 3 years, but I keep coming back to the rooted stock ROM (link below). It 's still getting regular security updates and just seems to run the best. I find no reason to go out and buy anything newer, this tab just keeps going and going. I say Go For It!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-10/development/rom-21-11-2014-t2948203
I think N10 is still a good tablet (I'm writing this on mine), especially if you don't intend to run modern games on it. For browsing , youtube and occasional simple productivity tasks - it's just great. Mine is 2 years old now and I think I'll keep it for another year at least. Will try putting marshmellow on it though, I'm just curious like that
As for alternatives, I'd say Sony xperia Z4 tablet is by far the best tablet out there right now. A friend got it recently and it's just great, really. Light, thin, great display (same resolution as N10) and battery life. And it has microsd slot. And you can even put AOSP on it, becase Sony provides binaries. Check it out, but it's probably like twice the price of N10.
My Nexus 10 is two years old and I still love it, although it's starting to chug a little more when switching between apps. I don't know that I would buy one today unless it's brand new (probably hard to find these days) and you got a decent deal on it.
I like my wife's Nexus 9, particularly the aspect ratio. I just wish it had that extra inch of screen space.
My N10 runs fast and smooth. I use stock rooted rom. It runs best on the stock rom.
I bought mine two months ago used. Running stock 5.1.1 and it's a bit slow but for what I use which is solely for media consumption it's great. Nice screen real estate and loud speakers.
Yes! I bought mine used aswell , and Running Marshmallow on it very well, very smooth and fast. Nothing to complaint.
I've had mine for a number of years now. Overall I've been pleased with it until recently. I'm having Wifi issues that drive me crazy. Also, it appears there's a major problem with YouTube that causes the tablet to reboot after only a few seconds of video. I get the feeling the device is just not getting the love from the Google developers that it needs.
My parents own one and have the known " yellow smudge" on the display. I would consider a different tablet.

Hi, im using OmniRom from scanno, you can find it here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-10/orig-development/rom-t3045066)
There are nice differences yes, I find it smoother and with also better battery life. It works very good in every task I do. Although, I find stock 5.1.1 pretty good also but sometimes I had some crashes on youtube and slowing down performance when using it. If you have more specific questions I would be glad to answer if I can. You should try the ROM !!!

In last stock 5.1.1 update I tried to watch 1440p on youtube and my nexus got freezed and rebooted every time I played that resolution. BUT then I flashed OmniRom 6.0.1 and now im able to play 1440p youtube vídeos without trouble!!! The difference onthis display is exquicite. You can find omni ROM here http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-10/orig-development/rom-t3045066
I hope this can save your nexus.

Oh ! well if it isnt a trouble for you I recomend you continue using 5.1.1 , its a very good ROM on performance. But if you wish to try on watching 1440p youtube videos I would recomend you to try OmniRom 6.0.1 version! So you still get Omni features and stability and also with Marshmallow features and battery managment.

There is also a new AICP build with Marshmallow 6.0.1 running well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-10/development/rom-aicp-11-manta-t3280678
So that you have other options to enjoy
Got mine as a Christmas gift from my wife three years ago. I still use it pretty regularly. The only issue I have is the battery isn't what it used to be (to be expected after 3 years).
Interestingly enough, I still use an AOKP PUB build (Android 4.3, I think - don't have it in front of me) because it was one of the last builds with the ability to have a true tablet UI (back/home/recent buttons on bottom left, status bar/notifications, etc. on bottom right).
I'll probably keep it until it's completely dead. But I'm not sure I have a real need for a tablet. If I'm ever in the market for something else, I'll almost certainly buy a Surface or some other laptop/tablet hybrid.
When I bought my N10 back in early 2013 I thought I wouldn't use it much.. The only thing I regret is getting the 16GB version. I don't think my Note 2 - launched approximately the same time - has been keeping the momentum equally good and it has been upgraded to a N4. But the N10 is aging like wine and I'm impressed to see mine still going after will these years. Would I get a "new" one today? Probably not. But I don't feel a need to upgrade either.
Also as rodeojones writes above.. Do I REALLY need a tablet? Probably not. My N4 is big enough when I'm not at home and when I'm home I usually use my desktop computer. But AICP 11 is working very well...
