Hello everyone this will be my first post in the forums..
So i've had my Z Ultra C6806 since October 22 with a fresh 32GB Sandisk Ultra 32GB microSD card. The phone has been perfect in every way with 0 errors.
Last night randomly the phone told me that the SD card was unmounted for some odd reason. I rebooted the phone and took out the SD card to plug into my computer (which read it fine) and put it back in the phone, which seemed to fix it. A moment later, the SD card was unmounted again except this time my computer did not even recognize it.
I've only had iphones in the past, so i am not familiar with sony product defects. But I read that the Xperia Z had this hardware issue of corrupting SD cards.
What I am trying to get at now is to find out if this has happened to anyone else, or if anyone has any insight on this issue
Haven't experienced any issues with my SD. I'm using a Sandisk SD that i've had for at least 5 years. I haven't heard of anyone else here having the issue you have. It might simply be a defect in your SD card. Don't you have warranty on it? It's pretty new, so i would get in contact with Sandisk and poke around a little, and maybe they'll give you a new one for free (yes, that happens quite often).

I bought a SanDisk 64Gb ultra. And it worked in PC, but not in my Galaxy S4. Well did, but like you say..
Do what Lord said... When I contacted Sandisk told me to email my serial, then they told me to cut it up/ take pictures, and then they sent me another one.
This new one works like a charm!
(Clearly they have had some quality issues)

I have experienced something similar with an old 32gb SanDisk ultra which keeps unmounting by itself. I had it for a few months before it started acting up. I realized later on that the card is defective (my theory is it acts up when a specific space (bad memory block or something) is filled with data it triggers the errors). I ended up buying a 64gb SanDisk ultra from a reputable store with 1 year warranty.
Here's what I tried to do fix my old card
- cleaned cleaned the contacts
- erase the card
- deleted the volume/created the volume
- reformat ntfs/fat32
Each of those methods would make the card work for a day but when I listen to music or watch a video it starts to mysteriously unmount itself still.

I have a sandisk 64GB sdxc class 10 microsd card in my S3.
However I'm having a lot of issue syncing music to it ( around 40Gb of MP3s ) all theses issues seem to be related to using a 64GB card, as everything works fine with a 32GB one.
I've tried syncing with 2 softwares with similar results (Mediamonkey and windows media player). (MTP)
Basically the initial full sync works, however and re-sync afterward fail for various reasons (hang, mm report as full, report sync failure etc).
Card was formatted internally with the format in the system options.
I bought a 32gb card off a seller on eBay cause it was a ssteal and when I got it the first time it was OK but when i reformatted it it stopped saving my pics. I ended up finding out that the card had a crapload of bad sectors. so i got back in touch with the seller and asked for a refund. he sent out another card, same issue. I eneded up get a refund. might wanna see if there are bad sectors on it..
get an iPhone, NOTe gonna happen
How did you check for bad sector on a microsd?
Other users on mediamonkey forum reporting the same: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=66514&sid=eefac781d2db7377ac5c09936a9b0b18
You should have got an SD adaptor with the card. Just need to plug it into you computer then in my computer right click on the SD card and run error check under the tools menu (windows)

Well seems like the card is good.... I guess there are very few people with a 64GB microsd..
Size DOES matter?
Apparently it does. I found a 4GB MicroSD and tried a Media Monkey playlist sync to the S3 tonight. I set up the MM autosync options per the normal procedures and then ran the autosync. A small test (40 songs, 220MB) worked great. I then added a larger playlist (220 songs, 1.5GB) and it went over as well. Playlists were auto-created on the device and I was able to access & play them w/o incident. Artwork and tags came across just fine in this small test. I haven't tried adding new songs to the playlist and resyncing yet, but will do so.
So where does this leave us? It seems like MM does work on the S3 within the limits of this test. Do we need to look at the 64GB problem as a Samsung issue or an ICS one? I guess we need to look around and see if other apps are having problems with the 64GB MicroSDs. Thoughts?
Are you having the same issue as I do with a 64Gb card?
I've tried with a 32Gb and everything works fine..

@ x-cimo: Yes, we're in the same boat, and on the same S3 thread over at Media Monkey. Dunno if 64GB MicroSD is an issue with all apps on the S3 or what. Hopefully someone else with experience one way or the other with a 64GB card will speak up to cast a little more light on this.

Unfortunately and hate to be the one to repeat it, the difference is between the real 64gb cards and the fakes..

Is there anyway to tell if one is fake? The card seem to work flawlessly in a PC.
Hello all,
Question for you guys/gals, i ordered the Z2 and expecting delivery today. I am now looking at microSD cards. I notice some inconsistency in the MicroSD card capacity from different sites. Anyone know if the 128 works with the Z2?
Sony's site: Expansion slot: microSD™ card, up to 64 GB (SDXC supported) Clicky
Phone Arena: microSD, microSDHC, microSDXC up to 128 GB Clicky
GSMArena: microSD, up to 128 GB Clicky
Thanks in advance!
It shoyld support it mate, I wouldn't worry about it

128 gb should be no problem
I got my wife a Z1 Compact and am (im)patiently waiting for my Z2 to arrive. I ordered a mess of the SanDisk 128GB cards when Amazon first got them in about 2 months ago. I've yet to put one in something and have it not work properly. Works perfect in the Z1 Compact, so I would think that there would be no issues with the Z2.
I should warn you however that the performance is pretty painful. Coming from SanDisk's 64GB extreme plus, the speed of something that just makes the cut to be a class 10 is a little disappointing. For me capacity comes before performance almost every time - my Go Pro probably being the lone exception.
Thanks all. Very much appreciate the responses.

I have a 128gb in my Z2, only got the phone yesterday, no problems so far
My 64GB card is showing up as a 64GB card but I'm yet to find a way to actually get anything onto it. The only way I got stuff on is when the phone's internal capacity was getting full (already! after one day!) and it offered to move stuff (movies, music, photos) to the SD card. It managed to yet none of my file manager software on the phone, or when connected directly to PC, or via WiFi File Explorer, or even when the card is directly in the PC with an adaptor, lets me put an actual file on it. I can create a new folder if I'm lucky, that's it.
It's a beautiful phone but the SD card is doing my head in. I've a Sony 64GB SDXC so it should work a treat... have I missed something? Like an option somewhere to actually allow writing data from the card by the user rather than just when the phone says it's okay?

That doesn't seem right.
So according to you I can't put music on my SD Card; I can record movies and photos on the phone onto the SD card but cannot transfer them to a PC, and I can't basically do ANYTHING with files on the SD card on my phone?
That doesn't sound right. What's the point of having an SD Card slot at all then? I thought the Kit Kat restrictions applies to apps, not general files. If you're right I'll have to change to another phone as that is a step backwards. It was SO easy on my Xperia S.
So far I've had to upload all my photos & movies I've taken since getting the Z2 to Dropbox and then download them on my PC from there, which is taking HOURS. I'm then going to format the card and see if that helps (I did not format it on insertion as it showed up OK and all seems well but my PC won't read it even in a reader).
This don't seem right. I'll update later (it will, as I said, be hours) with a solution to this in case anyone else is having the issue I'm having.

The restrictions that kitkat impose are that applications cannot write to anywhere on the sdcard and must use their own folder on an sdcard. Applications that have rootaccess are able to bypass this limitation including some pre-installed apps such as the camera, walkman and file commander application.
I have all my music and videos stored on my sd card and have no trouble accessing them and I copy them across in media-transfer mode via usb cable on my pc.
When you attach the sd card to your pc, are you doing it through your phone or via a card reader etc?
Situation has changed a little now - I can now view the card correctly on my PC.
It's because I'm stubbornly still on XP (I am NOT moving to Vista, 7 or 8 any time in the future!) so I needed an update to enable SDXC cards, otherwise it just gets stuck saying "card isn't formatted, do you want to format it? (yes) Oh, formatting failed" etc.
In case anyone else has problems like this the update is KB955704, available from link below.
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=19364
This means I can now just pull the card from my Z2 and stick my music etc. on from there, and pull the photos etc off from there.
It seems even when connecting to PC via the phone's USB lead there are problems until this update is in - I could see the files but not edit them, move, copy, etc etc which is what was REALLY confusing me.
Sorry if I seemed a bit noobie about that. I've actually been flashing my phones, tinkering etc for years and years but I guess I've not had an SDXC card before so didn't realise it wouldn't play ball.
MUCH better now - I don't really care what the KitKat limitations are now I can just transfer files "properly".
Cheers for the explanation about KitKat though, that is very useful.
So I wasted a day transferring files via Dropbox when a poxy Windows update would have solved it. You live and learn. I hope I can save someone else the hassle!
The pre-installed File Commander can write to the internal storage. So getting files onto the external add card is two stages. I copy over WiFi from my NAS to internal storage using ES file explorer, then copy from internal to external using file commander.

Thanks for that, I found that File Commander trick earlier. Problem I had to get around was I went nuts and installed every single app I ever bought but couldn't use properly on my old phones - namely the GTA games which were broken for my Xperia S. I ran out of internal storage within hours of getting my Z2... I got over-excited. I've calmed down now and deleted a load so there's more space and my SD card works fine now when in a card reader.
I've never been able to manage files directly from Explorer on my PC though when the phone is directly connected, either on the S and now the Z2. I think it worked to a point on my Xperia X10 but I mostly used Wifi File Explorer... which isn't working on my Z2 unfortunately, probably due to the Kit Kat restrictions mentioned.
I can kind of see why they did that - my phones used to get full of mystery folders full of crap over time - but it's a shame it breaks a lot of the old ways I used to get things done.
Anyway I apologise if we've gone off topic but thanks everyone for your very helpful hints and advice. I'm actually looking forward to getting my O2 Xperia Z tablet with the bundled offer (£99 for an Xperia Z tablet, yes please O2!) because it will most likely be permanently stuck on good, old-fashioned Jelly Bean. I've not seen much in Kit Kat that has thrilled me. I don't think I'd update to Kit Kat if I had a choice given how firmly a grip of your nuts they have now.
Cheers!

Hi I don't have a 128gb in mines but rather a Sandisk ULTRA 64Gb class 10 SDXC card.
I shot a 2 minute 4k video this afternoon which was saved directly onto the SDcard and on playback there seemed to be no problems whatsoever playing it back.
I hope that helps.
I have a 128gb card. Just recorded 1 minute of 4k to sd card and played back without problems. File size 391mb.

What sort of write speeds do you get?
I'm thinking of buying this to replace my 64gb card.
Recently jumped on an Amazon deal for a Samsung 64 gb SD card. My PC and Note 3 read it just fine, Z2 wont detect it. Does not show in any file explorers. Tried to mount from the settings several times. Read my previous Sandisk SD card just fine. Any fix for this?

I had the same issue on 2 sdcards bad thing that om my own I didn't make a backup. But om my gf sdcards i did.
Somehow it corrupts the card, after changing it back to our note 2 they were readable one time, after that I couldn't access it anymore. After that I just formated the cards and they both work perfectly on our phones.

I bought a Samsung 32GB Micro SD from Amazon which has been working without fault for little over a month now.
I'd suggest a return and replace.
I had a 32gb Samsung class 10 card in my old GS3, it wouldn't work in the my newer Z2 until I used the Z2 to format it. I did format it with the GS3 just before that got sold so I think the way Samsung does the format is different from the way the Z2 does it.

Hey
I just got my Padfone X (in germany padfone s). Everything works pretty fine,
but I have big trouble with my 64 gb class 10 SanDisk sd-card
My phone always shows an unexpected remove error.
Anyone else got this problem too?
I will test the next days an other sd card and will format the big one.
I have to say, yesterday I hard resetted my phone and it got a bit better.
Greetings
Kaito
It sounds like your SD card is either bad or not compatible. I had that problem with every device I have tried using a Class 10 SD card with. Try a Class 4 SD card instead.
I'm getting issues with card being lost when moving a file & sometimes after attached via usb to computer.
When happens card shows up as zero space & need unmount & remount.
Card is a kingston 64gb class 10 sdxc & is very new as bought with intention of using in this phone. card seems faultless when in reader on computer & also works fine in my old hd2 !
I assume poor firmware/hardware huawei end to blame !! kind of seeing why it cheap to buy now as everything worse than my old hd2 on wm6.5.5 lol ...
Any others experienced sd card issues ?

I'm reformatting the kingston one more time & if plays up again will have buy a samsung for testing :-/
Hard blame the kingston card as works faultless in everything else ! ...

I was having some problems with "SD card unexpectedly removed" when using the SD card I've had a couple years but I replaced it with one of the exact same spec/type/size and haven't had another SD problem since. I'm betting it's your card.
card works fine in every other device I tested it in (prolonged testing too).
I will try another card as it may not like this one for some reason !

Honor 5x won't recognize my Samsung Evo 64gb, but my Samsung S4 will.
Tried it in an adapter, but ubuntu cannot access it... Not sure what the issue is yet.
Issue appears 5x is bit fussy on cards, sloppy hardware/firmware !
I got my Kingston changed by retailer & replacement just same yet works in everything else A1 .
I went my Huawei retail store as only 5 minute walk up road in my nearest mall, told them issue & tried card in 2 display handsets & had same issue within 15 minutes of testing. There answer was only use 32gb card :-/ not helpful.
I will be trying a samsung, sandisk & Toshiba card this week from 2 friends so interesting see results.
You get what pay for & seems 5x no exception, it cheap & hardware/firmware also cheap minimal effort .

My phone worked for 5 days, now from yesterday it doesn't recognize the SD (Sandisk 128Gb SDSQUNC-128G-GZFMA), the message ""SD card Error" appears and no one the oher SD I tried works (Sandisk 8Gb, Toshiba 16GB, Sandisk 4Gb & Samsung 2Gb). All this SD have been tried & worked on a Samsung S2.
Don't know what other to try.
On Monday I'll try to give it back to commercial.
Bah !
This most likely won't help or isn't the problem... But the SD will not mount to PC if you don't unlock your phone first.
Meaning, if you ain't looking at your home screen, the PC will not mount the SD card.
Just throwing this out there, as I've panicked over my SD card because of this.
