[Q] CM10.3 or CM11 in the pipeline? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Just wondering if anyone has heard of someone porting CM10.3 or CM11 to the GN3? I really miss a lot of the features. Mainly quick unlock and quick reply for text/mms.
If anyone knows how to turn them on with what we already have that would be great too.

never been more hyped
I've never been more ready for an aosp rom for a phone then I am with this one. The hardware in this phone could run cm like a boss and I am ready for it. With touchwiz I have been noticing some lag, specifically when locking my device.

Ill give porting a try but lets hope i don't brick my new baby

There's a couple of people from the CM team working on getting it over to the Note 3 - utkanos, slayher and noobnl - but it's not ready just yet. As of this morning according to utkanos - "Not working yet: camera, audio, NFC (easy fix), lights (easy), occasional display glitching (almost resolved)". He has the T-Mobile version but noobnl has the Sprint version so hopefully we'll get builds at the same time as the GSM versions. although I know noobnl has been busy with school lately.

Quick Touchpad-Android run down for me? most stable rom?

I am used to modding android devices. I might be looking to get a touchpad for my mother depending on how stable an android rom is for it.
Is there a stable CM7?
What are the features that DO-NOT work? (that way I can assume everything else works?)
Front camera, skype support?
Again I would be looking for the most stable and bug free ROM that I would not have to constantly flash updates for her. Thanks!!
I have never used CM7 since I just got my Touchpad a few weeks ago when CM9 was out. But CM9 is stable. Just doesnt have camera or mic working. I dont know if these issues are the same with CM7. But if your mom has no need for all the apps android has to offer, she can just use webOS which is more stable than both CM7 and CM9.

Dont bother at all with CM7. CM9 and other ICS roms are far more stable. Pretty much everything works except for the camera and microphone. Battery life is nowhere near as good as in webOS, expect about 2 days of standby or about 5 hours of constant usage. Some people have wifi issues, but they're more often than not fixed by setting the router to avoid higher channels (keep it on 6 or below). The vibrate motor also for some reason stops working after the device goes into sleep, and the only way to get it going again is to reboot but I dont think that's a big issue for anyone.
As for a ROM, I'd recommend CM9 not because its the best but because its the one I'm most familiar with, and I can say its fairly stable. Sometimes it will randomly reboot, but never while actively using it. I'm using a nightly, but since you're giving this to a family member you might be better off with the better tested Alpha 2.
Stable Rom: Classicnerd
For me the most stable rom has been classicnerd's latest version. I have been using it and donot get any force closes or reboots. You can find the latest version at classicnerd.net/Betas/
as far as CM9 and the camera/mic issues, I think she would want to use skype to video chat with family members, so that would be a problem.
Does classicnerd have that issue?

webos does not have a lot of the banking and other apps she may find useful. Although is it easy to dual boot webOS and android? I'm thinking maybe its useful to boot to webOS just for skype and Android for everything else. That is, if its easy to switch between them.

Dual booting is the only way to do it. As far as I know, you cant replace webOS. When you follow the instructions to install android, you also install what is called a moboot that lets you select which operating system to boot into when starting the device. Switching between the two is easy and is just a matter of restarting your device.

CM7, yes.
Personally, I prefer AOKP.

Just depends on how adept she is at technology. If she can decently run a computer and text, she should be mostly okay. The one thing I would highly recommend is to make sure she can fix the wifi authentication problem. Basically, every now and then, wifi will have an authentication problem. When this happens, she needs to go to wifi settings, forget the router, toggle wifi off/on, and sign back into the router. This problem usually occurs for me when I leave wifi on and then reboot or get a random reboot. Takes maybe a minute to fix. As far as ROM, I like oat's light and tasty, although they're all pretty good, as they have the same base.
Sorry, I have to get this out of my system, then I'll be back to polite nice Canadian. In short, try one and see.

One of these days, people will actually glance through the forums as opposed to posting a new thread. This thread has been duplicated many other times before now.
In the end, again, just grab one, take it for a spin, and try it. Start with the more official ones, and work out from there until you find something you like. If nothing suits your fancy, take the source and make your own. It's pretty simple. So please stop spamming the boards with "Which ROM should I use" threads. </rant mode off>

I have tried CN and others but, I think that Oat's light n' tasty is the best so far. All my games run great and so does netflix and YouTube. But, a Rom is only good if it runs the apps you like. You I'll have to find the one that works best for you. I still think webOS is still good. Just my $0.02
I figured one more opinion can't hurt.
I've been using AOKP on my touchpad ever since I found out that they build roms for hp touchpads. It's great, so is CM9 but for some reason my touchpad refuses to behave with CM9, I'm talking random reboots, wifi issues, SOD (screen of death), and so on. ClassicNerd is also great too but I fell in love with the ROM control options available with AOKP.
Either way, one of the earlier posts mentioned that battery life is weak with ICS which is NOT the case for me, I always have wifi on, with my CPU overclocked to the maximum available frequency and get about 7 days, yes 7 DAYS, of standby and at least a full day of constant use.
As for skype, it is not fully functional with all android devices, just the few that the skype people officially support, I've tried it on my phone and it gave me a lot of issues, so even if the mic and cam were working I doubt skype would work well enough on the TP.
Obviously as others have mentioned earlier ICS is much better on the TP than GB, plus you have the great option of dual booting so you could always use WebOS which is pretty decent itself.
All in all, the TP was a great $100 investment and has a lot of support from some great devs out there. My almost 3 years old nephew has one and he loves it too lol
if you install one of the current nightlys, unofficial or official, she should be running just fine until you come over and install the one of the newer ones for her
the nightlys seem to be running great, even without the supreme mods.
can anyone tell me if the supreme mods are still worth installing?

[Q] Best CM9/AOSP ROM to start with?

Just wanted to gauge what people on XDA thought was the best CM9/AOSP rom was to start off with. I was looking through development, and it seems like the "le noob" one is the only one available, but after reading through the developer thread and general thread, it sounds as if there are other builds that are floating around, mainly Gray The Wolf's build. Out of the 3 Android phones I've owned (OG Droid, Droid X and the Rezound), this will be the first time I will be running CM9. I just want to know which build is the best to start off on. I am currently on Vigor360 and love the ROM, but wanted to try something new and definitely wanted to try a more stock Android experience.
Thanks for any feedback/insight.
All the CM9 builds are more or less the same. The only difference with antp's "le n00b" build is a different boot animation and the inclusion of Google Now, neither of which affect the core OS. I think Grey The Wolf's build is pretty much straight stock, but I haven't tried it. I think his might have the new drivers and the Torch fix baked in as well, but those should be coming to antp's build soon as well. Anything labeled as CM9 is going to be basically the same experience. Neo is doing AOKP nightlies right now and they're good, but because of the wifi bug, I don't think they're quite ready for prime time yet. AOKP is a lot more customizable than CM9 out of the box, but it's not quite as stable right now, though I probably will be running full time once a couple more of the wrinkles are ironed out.
I'm running antp's CM9 now, and I'll probably stick with it until AOKP is ready unless something significantly improved comes out.
Do any of these roms have functioning bluetooth for calls? I know that media works, but the last build I tried from antp was just static on calls.

I dont believe bluetooth for calls is working on any aosp based rom yet there close.
as for other rom choices all the cm9s are basically the same minus ants boot animation and google now but another choice is miui. if youve enver tried it its quite a refreshing take for aosp

I haven't been able to confirm yet, but antp121's "le noob" ROM thread says Bluetooth is functional as of 9-10.
Bluetooth for media and file transfer is working. Bluetooth for calls is not.
Good to know. Thanks for the clarification.
My build is straight from what Chad puts out. He sends an update and I usually build that same day.
Antp121 adds some frilly things.
Everything works on my build , including torch, except for Bluetooth calls. Media works.
I like the Miui Rom. The toggles for the quick settings are very intuitive and you can just long press to go into extended settings. Neat features like that are great. I can't seem to get the voice search and speach to text to work though.

So Basically no stable JB Rom exists

I have tried all JB roms for the AT&T Samsung Note 1. Now I am currently running Collective. I have over the past 5 months read through all their Forums and troubleshooting and have followed all instructions to the T. I wont be bashed or called a noob because all phones are not alike and some users don't have certain issues from what I read. BUT others have most definitely had my issues lol. I get random reboots, also seems like phone does not update properly like updates for apps through play store. I reboot my phone and all of a sudden i get new emails and there's 5 updates where my phone while on told me nothing about them. The reboots are the bigger issue. Is there no Stable JB rom out there? I keep being told go back to ICS, which I am believing that after JB being out for so long nobody is able to make the roms stable. Never seen such a long period of no stable rom coming out for a phone. Appreciate any advice ty
Hmm, there is two that I know of now. Cyanogen mod 10, and paranoid android which has cm10 as a base

My first experience with CM10 was that it was not stable, especially coming from CM9 which was rock solid but the last week or so of builds have performed very well for me. Within the last week my phone has rebooted 2x's on me. Both were just as I hung up a call the screen froze then the phone rebooted. Otherwise, I have not had any issues. My previous ROM was JellyBeer which as not quite as stable but still pretty good. I did clean wipes, loaded CM10 (latest) then JB GAPPS 20121011. After rebooting the phone I run "fix permissions" from CWM. I go to the play store and download my apps from there and not from a back up. Hope this helps, good luck.

You must be ON CRACK? The PAC MAN rom is the most stable rom i have ever ran.... and i've tried them all. NO random reboots and no issues. give it a shot man
Isn't the cm10 Jellybean kernel for the note just a modified ICS Kernel with bits and pieces from other kernels put in one package in order to run Jellybean. There's the stability issue. There's no source for the GN Jb kernel yet so they'll be issues. In my experience reboots and lost data connection. That's why I went back to ICS. Everything works. But I would like to check out Paranoid Android 3.0 ,4.2 aospa builds coming out soon. Don't know if there using a cm kernel or in-house built.
Novena injected I717 Samsung Galaxy Note
Nov 8 PA and linero (pacman) kernel and only get a reboot one every 5-7 days . Were on all others was like 3-4 a day . Also I have found (I could be crazy) but when a reboot yellow screen of death occurs power off the phone then restart seems to stop the reboots for much longer ,not that I need to do it anymore.

DING DING DING!!!
No source, mo' problems!
We need source to drop for JB, especially the kernel source...
Until then, we can get "good" builds, but not "Great" builds...
Source is the key, and according to Samsung, the note will get the official upgrade in december...I dont know more than that.....g
so was there ever a great 4.04 aosp or aokp rom for the i717??
by great i mean everything working.. hdmi, usb otg, etc...
on the s2 it seemed that as soon as the source dropped everyone went to jellybean..
so there never was a near flawless build.. and there never were sources for the hdmi and some other drivers..
i dont see it being different on any samsung product..
See this is why I made this thread. Simply put I spend countless hours searching threads and topics and I jsut got 90% of my answers there. I have used cm Roms in the past and I liked them. I am not a expert at rooting but one gets there over time. I really do not think any question is a stupid one but where it posted can be wrong place to post. I do very much appreciate everything everyone has posted. If you have any other imput or great ideas please post. Again ty very much:good:
THE most important thing to remember is that no 2 phones will act the same on every ROM, so, anytime someone says a certain rom is great, or another one sucks, you can only take that with a grain of sand....the ONLY way to know how any rom will run for you is to install it on YOUR phone.
As others have said, until there is source from Samsung, NO JB rom will run perfectly 100% of the time for everyone, so, if you don't want to deal with the possibility of reboots or other weird issues, you are probably best sticking with an ICS rom...
Actually, I have found the JB's to be more stable than the ICS Roms. I have found AOKP Milestone 1 the most stable. No reboots and offers tabletUI if you want it.
Right now, I am running Dman's PACman and find it to be very smooth and stable.

I have been using AOKP Milestone 1 and haven't had many issues. There are a few bugs but nothing show stopping. I run mine at 240DPI and it looks beautiful and have only had 1 reboot. I would give it a try.
On crack lol appropriate but ok. I tried pacman at one point I loved all roms but no phones are equal ever jb rom at some point gave me reboots. Sporting padawan at the moment loving it

S3 and N4

So i'm moving to the US soon and I always wanted a N4 cause of the Android Vanilla but couldn't get one from my current country.
Right now I have an S3 which is cool and everything but I just freakin hate touchwiz roms and CM roms are still not completely functional so..... I know that on hardware perspective the N4 doesn't compare to the S3 but would like to hear some feedback cause the N5 could be near.
would you guys trade an S3 for a N4 if you had the chance?
Honestly, if you want the hardware power, but the vanilla android. Try out a launcher...
Also, define CM roms aren't fully functional?
They lack radio and have minor bugs here and there, but it's still worth it. Instead of downgrading (hardware-wise) to an N4.
Also there are AOSP roms... Never tried one though .
But no, would never trade S3 for N4.
And would recommend nobody to ever do it xP

actually I have tried PARANOID, CM, PACMAN, OMEGA, SLIMICS, etc. You name the ROM and I tried it but since most of them are CM based they all share the common bugs, for instance we had a camera problem (not sure if it's fixed already), also wifi tethering didn't quite work and I use that feature a lot to share internet to my GF, some weird issues with sounds. Never used radio so I don't really miss that feature.
Right now my phone is heavily customized with an Omega ROM, Apex Launcher, Jkay Framework so it actually looks like Android Vanilla, BUT it doesn't feel like it.
guess ill just wait for the N5 and keep my brain shut for now.
thanks
Dude, wow...
Never ever come across any-issues except camera related issues...
Try out SlimBean and do not judge it based on the starting DPI (adjust in interface -> General etc) as is starts out in Tablet mode XD..
Anyways, I've yet to come across any bugs (and wifi tethering works fine, camera too) etc.
(Week later reply, but yeah )

[Q] CM 10.1 official for i717 or not?

Supposedly 10.1 went 'official' for all devices that had a stable build, of which I thought we were one - but if you go to download it from the website, and do all the filters (samsung, phablet, cm 10.1), we don't get listed - you have to go back to CM 10.
What's the scoop? I'm really getting fed up with the absolutely stupid amount of lag (even after disabling and ripping out a ton of unnecessary apps), and am seriously considering moving over to CM - but since it's not listed as official/stable I'm a bit gunshy of suddenly going to buggy/reboot laden use rather than just slow/frustrating.

You are really exaggerating any flaws. Is your comment based on actual use? I went through most of the 10.1 roms and had little to no problems.
And the stock rom with bloated apps frozen is as smooth as I could hope for.
I don't think any rom will meet your standards . . . just sayin'

I don't know if I'm exaggerating the CM 10.1 issues - that's why I'm asking, are we on a stable build yet or not? As for stock/carrier ROM performance, I wouldn't call 5 seconds to unlock the screen into an SMS notification being frustrating and slow an exaggeration by any means - but outside of the rare app FC I agree that it runs pretty well otherwise and is why I've been content to run on it since it came out.
I'm a pretty easy pleaser as long as things function consistently and reliably. So as long as the crash/reboot issues for CM 10.1 are truly flukes, I'd be willing to give it a try. Does the i717 have a stable CM 10.1 build?

I had the same question about the stability of the CM10.1 stable, and made a post. Some people gave some feedback.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2340057
I am using CM10.1 stable on my Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, and it works beautifully. But, I am not so sure about i717.
the msm8660 family *quincyatt/quincytmo/skyrocket/hercules* all have "stable" named builds from cm, though we dont actually have a "stable" 4.2.2 build
there is also another rom elsewhere that posts as "stable"
but until we get Bluetooth and Reboots fixed we dont actually have a true stable 4.2.2 build, some of us are lucky and avoid reboots and dont use bluetooth so we get "kinda a stable" build but in reality until those 2 main issues are fixed no one should be saying the word stable
but after all that said, if you set your phone up properly and dont bloat it with crap you should have a better experience then touchwiz
im not promoting my stuff over others but give uxylon+uber kernel combo a try. i havent had a reboot since june, but i dont use bluetooth so that issue doesnt effect me
*one of the keys to killing a lot of reboots on cm10.1/aosp is to turn off CRT
Looks like there's a new quincyatt stable release as of yesterday 7/10/13 for CM 10.1 - well, here goes nothing! :]
