Not sure if this happens with every phone or carrier, but I had to make a 911 call because my 5 year old daughter went missing from kindergarten last week. I dialed 911, pressed call, and it kept going back to the home screen every time, or it would just sit there not pushing the call through. Tried like 6 times then gave up. Note 3, completely stock. I was livid!! I had to use my work BlackBerry (tmo) to place the call, which worked instantly. Any ideas? And be aware of this if this is an issue, not funny when it happens. I will call Sprint regarding as well.

911 worked fine for me when I hit a deer, they were able to locate me through the gps even. Not to take away from your issue, just saying that I used it recently and it worked for me. I would be to the point of cancelling my service with sprint if that happened to me, and I dare them to charge an etf...especially if it came to my kids

Whoa. That sucks. I haven't tested it on my note 3 yet but on my s3 when I dialed 911 it Sent me to a call center which routed me to my local 911 dispatch. I know calling requires GPS to be one I believe. Was GPS enabled?

Yes, always. I called sprint and they are (supposedly) going to perform an area service check from where the call was placed to make there aren't any tower issues.

Ok, so I haven't rooted my phone. It's completely stock. I am not receiving ANY phone calls. First it was just sending them directly to voicemail. I did a PRL update and updated my profile. Now all I get is it ringing 5 times, then goes to voicemail, but it doesn't come through to my phone.
Any ideas?
Just tried making a couple calls. Wouldn't go past "Dialing." The phone went into Roaming, and now it's making calls on Roaming... WTF!?

Call sprint on from another phone, they'll fix it.
Try calling Sprint from another line and talk to them. For data are you on WiFi?

I'm on the phone with Tier 2 right now. I'll post results. So far, they have reset the switch from their end, and had me verify that my "Mobile Network" was turned on.
Update...
They're saying that there was a ticket created in the area this morning for an outage issue. They're saying that the domestic voice may be down, which is why I can only make calls when my phone goes into roaming. They're checking into it further.
If anyone is interested, it's over in Orlando, FL 32819
Went to lunch down the road, maybe a quarter-mile, and was able to make a phone call without a problem. It's gotta be a tower. I asked a couple people in my office and it turns out that the BlackBerry devices that everyone uses are also having the same problem in the building. Sprint was on-site yesterday looking into it. I guess they're working out at the tower today or something... Maybe taking long breaks in A/C because it's so ****ing hot outside today.
I've had the same problem with Sprint for the past month in my house. Traveling a few miles down the road (new tower) and no issue.
Sprint sent me an Airave for my house and now calls/data come through.
On the phone with sprint for hours and even changed the phone number. I just got a replacement Photon because the first was doin the same thin. This is a fresh new out the box Photon just activated. I can't send text messages, cant make phone calls, occasionally receive text messages and some phone calls, but the internet/browser works perfectly fine. Sprint told me they checked the towers and nothin was wrong at all and everythin down to a T is correct with the phone, settings, and setup. Anybody have any clue whats going on?? thanks in advance
Did you activate Google talk? Sounds stupid but i did and then uninstalled it. So instead of text going to your phone they are going to Google. Just log into Google and deactivate talk. Took me awhile to figure that out lol. Hope it helps.

I had issues today as well on both lines. Sprint told me they had issues in my area today. Now everything is back to the normal 1.2 to 1.8 download speed on 3G. Never experienced Sprint slow unlike other people.

yea I dont know what the deal was. they told me I had to change my number which was last resort because for a fresh brand new phone to not work and do the same as my older phone caught them by surprise. But now everything is working on point but lets see for how long

WOW... I don't even think my phone could handle speeds that fast. More like 300K over here.
Sometimes as I'm making a call and am disconnected due to poor service or hanging up too quickly, my phone will get almost a busy signal. It won't stop until I've rebooted the phone. I'm rooted on viperrom but it happened even when I was 100% stock. Any ideas on what's causing it or a possible fix? Thanks!!

I can confirm that my wife's phone has been doing this too, and hers is not rooted. I suspect it's a software issue, but the fact that it doesn't stop, when you shut down the phone, makes me wonder if it's deeper. I'm trying to decide what to do, because I was about to cancel the insurance, but not if i need it to replace a defective phone :/

This happens to me more than twice a day. Almost all calls placed from my house give me this tone. I'm past my 14 days, so I cannot return it for the sgs3. I honestly do not want to return the phone, but this is just ridiculous. Random 3g dropouts, an annoying tone on 50% of calls, and my phone will become unusually sluggish throughout the day. All of these problems are fixed with a reboot. It happens on stock and vipermod. I'm not sure about aokp or cm9. I cannot place a call with either of them. Anyway, I cannot believe a fix has not been released by htc/sprint. The xda community already has a fix for wallet. Sprint and HTC need to do something. My next purchase will be a nexus phone, after 5 HTC devices.
Wiretap
Poorly implemented federal wiretap. Go about your business as usual.
I got my phone on release date and never once had that happen until tonight. I noticed my signal was jumping in and out of roaming and everytime I tried to make a call, roaming or not, it did the busy signal thing. I called Sprint and they were looking into an issue with the tower I pull from. The same tower has gone down 4 times in the past 8 months, and everytime it goes down it is 3-4 days without service for us, it is getting really annoying.
Definitely not an HTC or evo specific issue. Had this happen to me a few times and the wife's s3 and a viper in the last few days
Turn off the roam guards. I had this same problem when I was on vacation. Once the roam guards are off you will be able to connect and not get that annoying busy signal.
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
I made a thread on this not knowing this one was existing.... I believe I pinpointed it only happens when and if u place the call your signal bars drop to none at that exact moment it does something within the modem and cause this tone of death I call it....
Nothing fixes it but a reboot.
HTC BETTER REALIZE THEY ARE PISSIN PEOPLE OFF, THEY BETTER FIX THE SIGNAL Issue before people return this thing..other than that love the phone..
I truly believe half of it has to do with slow network and weak towers Sprint is just trying to catch up after all these years

My phone is doing this with the roam guard off, and when I have 6/6 or 5/6 bars. Service at my house is very spotty, and 5 out of 7 calls will fail. In areas that I have good service about 50% of calls fail. I never had this problem with my EVO 3d, and my father has never had this issue with his EVO 4g. I'm ready to take this phone back. It's ridiculously annoying, and the only way to fix the issue is to reboot the phone. Also, I'm frequently not receiving calls in areas where I should be getting "good" service. This is obviously an issue with both HTC and Sprint.
On top of this issue, I keep nit getting phone calls. My wife calls me twice everytime she calls and the first one almost never rings. Who knows how many calls I don't receive in a day.

Same here. I've had a few clients tell me they've been trying to get a hold of me, which is a bad thing. Anyway, I contacted Sprint, and the rep told me to take it to a corporate store to swap phones -- something I don't really want to do. She informed me that this issue is not widespread, however, I've been reading about the issue on a few different forums.
Edit: for some strange reason I haven't had this problem in a day or two. Hopefully it stays this way.
I don't know if anyone else is having this issue, but it appears I am not receiving some calls and/or receiving text late or not at all. I wondering if setting the Roam setting to "Sprint Only" or "Automatic" makes a difference. This seems to be an off and on issue. Also it is starting to get on my nerves when I get text VMs atleast 3 hours after the call was made to me (keep in mind my phone never rang during those calls).
Anybody have any solutions, besides throwing this cool "buggy ass" phone against the wall?
This is a nice phone but it definitely has some bugs to be worked out. Or is all the problems related to Sprint's F'd up signals? My wife has the EVO3D and has none of these issues... wtf.

I have researched the issue and it appears this issue is not uncommon. There is already an established post started for this issue, titled; "Anyone else having reception/signal issues?" Right now it appears one the ways to fix this issue is having Sprint re-provisioning your phone. Some have claimed this has helped.
I am planning on doing this myself sometime today.
But it does seem to be a Sprint conectivity issue and/or an issue with the phones antenna.
So I called Sprint and they had me reactivate, but signal still seemed to be a problem as it still roams. They recommended I take it in and get it replaced. So that is what I am going to do as I am just under the 14 day period.
not receiving calls
are you guys still having the same issue or have a work around?
I'm also not getting calls and when I try to make calls, I receive text messages that was sent in the past. I tried to contact customer support but all they've done was have me update profile and restart the phone. This is getting ridiculous specially missing some important calls.
Complain and get a free Airave. Then you'll have perfect call quality and 5 bars everywhere in your house. Done.
Sent from my EVO using XDA
I have been missing lots of calls the lastbfew days, and even wasnable to replicate the issue at my house. If my wife's phone calls mine, it will ring until voicemail on her end,and I get nothing on mine unless I leave a voicemail. I have steady, if not great signal on both (100ish DB).this is only the case for incoming calls, as I can always call out from home with no problems.
I tried that scenario a coupl dozen times, and got through 4 times.
I found two workarounds so far that seem to work consistently. (Both from other threads, can't take credit for finding them, but I did test them extensively. )
1. If I am on another call, I will get the incoming call everytime. I just dial voicemail and have someone call me to test. Without fail, the call center through.
2. Turning GPS and all location services on under settings -location. Strangely enough, all of my dozen test calls have gone through after turning GPS location on. Turning it off brought the usual 20% call success rate back.
Odd to say the least...

It isn't a signal issue, the phones just don't ring. I have this issue and have full bars when attempted calls do not come into the EVO LTE. I can make calls out fine, just no received calls. Also to make this a more peculiar issue, I go down the highway a couple miles and it works fine.
I have called Sprint and followed a blog on sprint.com http://sprint.r.delivery.net/r/c/r?2.1.GT.2Z2.1hiUnF.DfhoXq..N.1QNCs.4RAa.bW89MQ__DObeFTE0 where others have the same issue, even in the same town. Sprint has followed up with no issue and ticket closed. It is currently open again..
My girlfriend broke up with me over theses missed text messages
and i missed important calls. I called sprint he had me turn off the phone while they refreshed it. Working ok so far i will say this i unrooted my phone and when i woke up i had 48 text messages from the previous week and eight voice mails from three days ago, i wonder if everyone with this problem was rooted as well.

I had the same problem with me evo 4g and evo 3d...
I had same problem. Only way to get texts or calls was to call my voice mail. Sprint started a ticket, but since I was within my 14 days I exchanged the phone. Good thing I did cause Sprint closed the ticket on me telling me it was due to system upgrades. But it was not the network at all. As soon as they activated my new phone everything worked perfect. It was the phone the whole time.

Try This...
I have an epic4g touch and this is the only "Band aid" that has stopped me from smashing my phone!
What I would recommend doing is using Google voice as your voicemail provider. Go to the options menu on the website and have it send you an email when you miss a call.
Google voice will always log the call even if your phone does not ring. For somebody like me who uses this phone for work, it definitely helps. You may miss the call but you will at least know that you missed the call and you can call them back.
It has saved me many times!
I am having trouble with distorted or garbled phone calls. I have wiped and reflashed the latest Mean rom. I've also flashed the latest radio and PRI, as well as updating profile and PRL. I cannot get this problem to go away. Some times it is clear, but mostly it is garbled.
Anyone got any ideas? I thought about an APN problem, but I haven't messed with APN'S since my old g1 days and I am not even sure the evo lte uses them (or even where to find them) .

The last radios and pri update was buggy. That's why you have distorted phone calls, it has nothing to do with Rom. Hopefully , sprint will fix it soon.

Hmm...its very garbled. Basically unusable. Although I haven't heard about bugs in the update, it doesn't seem right. If everyone had distortion like I am experiencing there would be a revolt.
Thing is, at times it is clear. I flashed an old nandroid and it was gone. Then went back to mean rom and it was back. Wiped and reinstalled mean rom and it went away for a bit, but now is back.
Even stranger, calls to my Google voicemail are perfectly clear. Turn around and call some one and it is garbled.
May call sprint and see if it is a configuration issue. Pissing me off.
And it's clear again. WTF??!!
Wonder if these darn tower upgrades are responsible.
The last poster read my mind, as I experienced that here in LA. As soon as Sprint started upgrading the towers in our area, the voice garbling began, and after much complaining to customer service, Sprint sent me a free AIRAVE.

I can tell you this has nothing to do with rooting, roms or the like. I have a completely stock EVO Lte that has never been rooted or even plugged into a computer! My phone is completely stock and I am having the same problem with my phone. If I make a call and the call quality sounds good to me, it will sound bad to the other person. If I make a call and it sounds distorted (garbled), it sounds fine to the other caller.
I am getting completely fed up with this phone. I called sprint SEVERAL times to get a replacement because of the wifi/gps problems, and I insisted that I did not want a refurb phone. The rep said it would be a new phone (after many HOURS of phone time with Sprint CS) What they sent me was a refurb, and a POS at that! Scratches, loose back cover, the red around the camera flaking off! I am not going to accept it and will be returning it tomorrow at the Sprint store! I am going to call them while at the store so they can "hear" my newest complaint!
I tried to swap this phone within the first 14 days, and the Sprint people insisted that it was just them working on the towers, so I waited. Then after that 14 days window was passed, all the CS reps said was "if you would have returned it within the first 14 days..." Makes me sooooooo freakin mad!!!
If your reading this, and have the same issues, it is your phone. PERIOD. Call Sprint or go to a retail store and complain, complain, complain!!!
It's the Network
My wife and I have both been having this issue a lot recently. Me on my E4LTE, and her on the Galaxy SII. I really think it's the network, not the 4G. We started having the issue right after Sprint started their HD Voice upgrades. Sometimes calls are perfectly clear, sometimes their slightly garbled, and sometimes they're completely broken up. I'be been through the ringer with Sprint's Tech support with no luck at all. I think I'm going to switch to Verizon once our contract is up (which is a shame because I was very happy with sprint and the EVO up until this problem).
