[Q] Anyone else still experiancing dropped calls? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

I have tried the ##3282# thing, updates, and factory resets. I am on my 3rd note 3, and it drops calls all the time. Activated new one last night and the longest call I have held is 10 min. I am in Indianapolis, so i should not have this problem in a major city. Any words of wisdom before I give up and pay the etf? Everything else on the phone works great. My better half has an s4 that does not have any issues in the same locations.

This won't help you, sorry, but I have never had a cell phone that didn't' drop calls. Not every time, of course. You're certain it's not just normal droppage? The phone is juicy.

I am sure. Only the note, not the s4. When it drops it still has signal. I know everyone has a different tolerance for dropped calls, but this thing is horrible. Obviously this isn't my first phone. I have never had dropped calls like this before. I expect my phone do drop calls at this point. Literally 90% of my calls either end in a drop or have a drop in the middle of them. The other 10% are very short calls.

Given that it's every Note 3 you've gotten, I can't help think it's related to something with your service combined with the N3 combined with perhaps an app. When you did the factory reset did you also do a cache wipe? When I had a similar issue I did the reset and wipe and then checked service app by app. My problem went away with that.
Hopefully someone will pop by with a resolution. Would hate to see you give up on such a great device.

I did not do a cache wipe. I will try that tonight. When I received my new phone yesterday I updated, reset, then restored using kies. I did not setup or open any apps before problem showed up again. I will just try it after reset and zero apps installed.

I hope something works for you. This is the best phone I've ever had. Call quality, etc. the best.

I've had a few lost calls and only have had my phone for a few days.

Try changing the prl to another sprint prl and see if that works for you.

dropped call
I have also had an unusual number of dropped calls on my note 3. I'm on my second and there is a major improvement, but I didn't complete a single call with the first so improvement wasn't a reach. Haven't been able too keep a call over ten minutes with my current note 3. Love everything else about the phone and don't make a lot of calls so I have no intention of getting rid of it but I would like suggestions on how to fix. There are tower upgrades in my area but I'm not having this problem with the other phones on my account. Last I'll also mention I have had between three to five bars and been stationary, still had calls drop.

Coverage is off and on now even on my friends s4 in the same spot. I'll have to call Sprint if it keeps up. Credit time.

Try Updating your PRL.

If he's on his third phone I'm sure that's been done.

Does he (or you) have an airave? If so, that might be the cause. My brother mentioned the same problem and he fixed it by unplugging the plugging in the airave.
I'm having the same problem getting multiple text messages from someone. But not 100% of the time. I haven't contacted Sprint about it yet.
one of my friends kept telling me she was getting double texts but it has since stopped....
I've been getting them also from all different places, just here and there though. I'm thinking it's sprint and not the phone, but I really don't know.

This happened to me at times on my EVO 4G.
I've learned to live with it. I never knew what the issue was.
It hasn't happened yet for me on the EVO LTE.
I am having the same issue. I took it to sprint and they gave me a hard time but eventually they swapped me out with a new one. and then the new one i have is also having the same issue. i rooted it thinking a custom rom might fix the problem and it didnt. Im going to do a little research because it started happening when i downloaded some apps. im going to delete them and see if the problem persists. but its not the phone i dont think.. it might be a software issue that sprint has to fix. unless i got 2 lemons which i doubt but there is a chance it could happen.
I had smae problem and it was because my old phone connected to the airave after my new phone was activated. I turned off the old phone and rebooted the airave and and the messages came through one last time and stopped.
Do sms(text) backup, then under settings, the applications find your sms or messaging(if by default you kept stock). After you have backed up, clear cache and either turn of phone for a minute or two, then restart or clear data, fully stop, then shut off phone and restart. See how that works! Unless there are no important text messages, then just skip backup of course!!
Cleaning Cache on its own can keep from clutter build up(dont talk to your dentist, he is no help), and restarting or shutting phone off for a couple minutes. Minimum of Two Times a Week is always a Plus Restarting Phone....is like any system build...it reconfigures or straightens things up!!

Yes Air Rave can be reset every once in awhile to do exactly the same.
its been awhile since I posted this, when it was first happening sprint said it was because there was work being done on the towers for LTE, ever since LTE has been turning on in more areas around me it has not been happening as often, I receive double text hardly at all now
I get double texts, sometimes triple from a girl on T-Mobile and my friend w/ iPhone 4 on sprint. Never from Android phones on CDMA networks.
This happens to me once in awhile. It seems like a network hiccup, it happens mostly with my wife who is on my account.
It happens to me all the time. They'll all retain the original time stamp but come in way after the original.

Not receiving calls

I don't know if anyone else is having this issue, but it appears I am not receiving some calls and/or receiving text late or not at all. I wondering if setting the Roam setting to "Sprint Only" or "Automatic" makes a difference. This seems to be an off and on issue. Also it is starting to get on my nerves when I get text VMs atleast 3 hours after the call was made to me (keep in mind my phone never rang during those calls).
Anybody have any solutions, besides throwing this cool "buggy ass" phone against the wall?
This is a nice phone but it definitely has some bugs to be worked out. Or is all the problems related to Sprint's F'd up signals? My wife has the EVO3D and has none of these issues... wtf.

I am also having the exact same problem. I have tried playing with all the mobile settings and updating prl without success. This issue is intermitent. Also, I am periodically getting the unable to detect time/timezone message.
I am about to call Sprint, but was hoping to find a solution here. Please let me know what you find out.

I have researched the issue and it appears this issue is not uncommon. There is already an established post started for this issue, titled; "Anyone else having reception/signal issues?" Right now it appears one the ways to fix this issue is having Sprint re-provisioning your phone. Some have claimed this has helped.
I am planning on doing this myself sometime today.
But it does seem to be a Sprint conectivity issue and/or an issue with the phones antenna.
So I called Sprint and they had me reactivate, but signal still seemed to be a problem as it still roams. They recommended I take it in and get it replaced. So that is what I am going to do as I am just under the 14 day period.
not receiving calls
are you guys still having the same issue or have a work around?
I'm also not getting calls and when I try to make calls, I receive text messages that was sent in the past. I tried to contact customer support but all they've done was have me update profile and restart the phone. This is getting ridiculous specially missing some important calls.
Complain and get a free Airave. Then you'll have perfect call quality and 5 bars everywhere in your house. Done.
Sent from my EVO using XDA
I have been missing lots of calls the lastbfew days, and even wasnable to replicate the issue at my house. If my wife's phone calls mine, it will ring until voicemail on her end,and I get nothing on mine unless I leave a voicemail. I have steady, if not great signal on both (100ish DB).this is only the case for incoming calls, as I can always call out from home with no problems.
I tried that scenario a coupl dozen times, and got through 4 times.
I found two workarounds so far that seem to work consistently. (Both from other threads, can't take credit for finding them, but I did test them extensively. )
1. If I am on another call, I will get the incoming call everytime. I just dial voicemail and have someone call me to test. Without fail, the call center through.
2. Turning GPS and all location services on under settings -location. Strangely enough, all of my dozen test calls have gone through after turning GPS location on. Turning it off brought the usual 20% call success rate back.
Odd to say the least...

It isn't a signal issue, the phones just don't ring. I have this issue and have full bars when attempted calls do not come into the EVO LTE. I can make calls out fine, just no received calls. Also to make this a more peculiar issue, I go down the highway a couple miles and it works fine.
I have called Sprint and followed a blog on sprint.com http://sprint.r.delivery.net/r/c/r?2.1.GT.2Z2.1hiUnF.DfhoXq..N.1QNCs.4RAa.bW89MQ__DObeFTE0 where others have the same issue, even in the same town. Sprint has followed up with no issue and ticket closed. It is currently open again..
My girlfriend broke up with me over theses missed text messages
and i missed important calls. I called sprint he had me turn off the phone while they refreshed it. Working ok so far i will say this i unrooted my phone and when i woke up i had 48 text messages from the previous week and eight voice mails from three days ago, i wonder if everyone with this problem was rooted as well.

I had the same problem with me evo 4g and evo 3d...
I had same problem. Only way to get texts or calls was to call my voice mail. Sprint started a ticket, but since I was within my 14 days I exchanged the phone. Good thing I did cause Sprint closed the ticket on me telling me it was due to system upgrades. But it was not the network at all. As soon as they activated my new phone everything worked perfect. It was the phone the whole time.

Try This...
I have an epic4g touch and this is the only "Band aid" that has stopped me from smashing my phone!
What I would recommend doing is using Google voice as your voicemail provider. Go to the options menu on the website and have it send you an email when you miss a call.
Google voice will always log the call even if your phone does not ring. For somebody like me who uses this phone for work, it definitely helps. You may miss the call but you will at least know that you missed the call and you can call them back.
It has saved me many times!

[Q] Can't make/receive phone calls/texts

Over the past 3 days I haven't been able to make/receive phone calls/texts while I'm in my neighborhood (which normally I get great service on 3g/4g). Literally everywhere else my phone works perfectly. I called sprint and they said to take the phone to a store, which I did, and the store replaced it. After work when on my way home I made call just to test if that fixed the issue and it didn't, still not able to make phone calls/text messages in my neighborhood but data still works. Also we have 4 other phones on sprint none of which are lte devices and all are working perfectly which makes me think something in the tower is messed up or they're upgrading something but if I'm not mistaken sprint's voice/texts go through their 1x network. I'm confused, called sprint again and they're sending me that airwave(I don't know if that's what its called) for free. I hope this will fix it but does anybody know what it could be/if anyone else has experienced this? Maybe someone from sprint who's on here could enlighten me as to what's going on?
Thanks,
-S
When you say great 3g/4g, you mean wimax? No lte out. I get bad reception in my house and a few other areas, but so do all sprint phones. Weird that it's just affecting you.
Also, I've heard many people say sprint is giving them a free airrave, but then still get a monthly charge for that. Maybe it's changed but double check that.
Sent from my LTEvo
Yea I meant wimax when I had the galaxy s2...and yea I'll definitely keep an eye out for that...I asked the person on the phone 3 different times if there would be anything added to my monthly bill or a one time fee and she said no b/c I didn't even request for one, I was simply just trying to find out if something was going on with the tower since we narrowed it down to the 1x network which wasn't working on my phone at the tower I was connected to...and randomly I get transferred and she says we will be sending you one...so I definitely didn't say no

Did you recently use the google voice integration? I did early on when they offered it and it borked my calling and texts but not data. It carried over from phone to phone, blackberry and two different android phones, as it is an issue with the line. If so disable the gv intergration and call Customer service until you get a tech that understands that gv may have borked it and resets the line with the network. It took me nearly a month to get mine fixed (in store, online, and by phone repeatedly) and when I finally got a hold of someone who understood my problem it was fixed in 10 minutes.

Were you not able to call at all anywhere? Because the Only time this happens for me is when I'm in my neighborhood/house Even though I still have the 3g symbol up and 4 out of 5 bars. And this started 3 days ago now, and I have had google voice integrated since before I had the evo 4g lte.

Well it's an odd issue but mine was a progressive failure. Initially I lost receiving texts, then a few days later receiving calls, days later sending texts and shortly thereafter calling out. I never lost data and always had signal when I was trying to use it and I initially thought it was the tower I was near. I came home that summer from school (~150mi away) and instantly knew it wasn't the tower. So if it is the GV thing it may get worse for you.
I'm the only person who seems to have had this particular problem before that I'm aware of and at the time no one could tell me what was going on. So if anything this may be a "check it off the list" just to make sure it isn't your problem as well.

How long have you had the GV integration? My particular issue wasn't immediately after the attempt but ~3-5 days after it. It may be worth a shot though to see if it solves it.

Straight Talk throttling (at&t sim)

So, I'm pretty sure that Straight Talk is throttling me. Days on the phone with customer service, and "reprovisioning" my data, and no change.
Could it be that I'm running Baseband i717 UCLC5 with Kernel UCLE3-UCLE577875?
I was thinking maybe I had a bad radio or modem combo or something..
Anyone else throttled on Straight Talk? Argh.. they were the perfect carrier until this nonsense. I don't even stream that much! Know it's in their TOS that they can cut off data or do whatever, but still..
Straight Talk data throttling.. FIXED!
God damn, after reading HowardForums and using this advice. Essentially insisting that they switch my account over to the $30 plan then back to the $40 plan.
Now my internet speeds are back to blazing.
I didn't have to speak the manager's manager to get this to happen. They do try and lead you through all the BS: Change your APN etc.. I tell them I did all that and to please switch my plan. I finally ended up with a Philipino girl who was nice enough to just try switching plans. This required I turn off the phone while they reset everything. Booted up after the plan switch and everything is normal. Phew. Guess I'll have to stream my music from my home server over SSL encryption. :-D
When you call 866-667-6472(using a different phone) you have to speak to one of THEIR MANAGERS! (I know you are a manager, but I want to speak to YOUR manager a senior manager) after that instruct them to manually change your plan to the $30 plan and then back to the $45 unlimited plan. When they start this process (even if they don't tell you to) turn off your phone and remove your battery. That takes around 10 minutes so be patient and that should be it. After talking to my rep (senior manager) it became obvious that she was not lying and had no idea straight talk was throttling and tried to nhelp me anyway she could. Wow, thank you for this information. I too was throttled big time . I went from 5megs/sec down to .1
I tested my speeds in major cities like NY, Jax, Orlando, Philly, Charlotte and it was the same.
Straight talk said they were not throttling me so I went ahead and just bought another SIM and voila I was right back up in speed.
Next time I will try the above and let you know.
Did you have to change your phone number with the new sim?
Maybe that would be easier.. I dunno.. guess it's six of one..
Update: Two days later, without using any extra data.. throttled again.
Going to call them and ask them to switch my plan back and forth again..if
throttled again, other carrier, here I come.
In the ongoing Straight Talk Throttling Saga..
Another phone call.. this time half an hour on the phone.. they reset the plan(s) back and forth. Data speed back. Will see if it lasts. Got them to pony up 5 days free service for all the hassle.

I use ST also and have been getting the throttle 160 kbps for about 7 days now. which is OK because I did use about 2+GB last month. but I do not tether I do have wifi at home and will begin to use it more. BUT!! If you are listening Straight Talk You need to set some clear standards. if I violate them I expect to get throttled. 160 kbps is unusable you need to do more like 500 kbps that is still a 90% cut in speed. and most of all when I reach the end of my billing cycle and start a new one, I should automatically be reset to full speed. Which is were I am now. last Sunday started my new month and mid day Monday is when I noticed that I can no longer use Google Maps. just when I really needed it. Oh and a txt warning email something would be nice!! NOT a phone call I do not answer strange numbers they can leave a message. So that is my opinion I think most people would agree with this and ST does not come off as doing shady business practices.
I went through all this a few weeks back. First three weeks with them got great speeds everywhere in two states. Then went 10 days where I never got above 200k. They made me mess with the phone and then reset something on their end. I've had about 10 days of perfect speeds everywhere in PA and MD.

Does this reset your balance? I.e. if you're in the middle of a month, do you lose the remaining days?
Correction
Guys, you don't even need to call in and change your plan to stop the data throttling. All you need to do is:
1. Call 611
2. Once you get ahold of a rep, say these exact words: "I called customer service yesterday because my data is not working, at all. My email won't load and everytime I access the internet it gives me an error saying it cannot connect to the web. The representative I spoke with yesterday took me through some trouble shooting steps with my APN settings to see if that would help and if it didn't work that I should call back and request for a network refresh or an account refresh."
3. The rep will say something like, "Ok, I will be glad to help with your problem today. I will need to transfer you to complete this transaction." They may also state, clearly, to you the ToS of Straight Talk (sections 6 and 7) regarding data usage and throttling and you need to acknowledge this in some way.
4. Once transferred repeat what you said above to the next level up rep. He/She will complete the process.
5. Now that the process is complete, please turn off your phone for 60 seconds then turn the phone back on but let it sit for a few minutes so it can register and reset it's settings and then you should see a return in normal data speeds.
Note:
- Always be curtious and kind to the reps. If you don't get your way with one of them don't get mad and hostile. They are only doing their job. Just hang up and call back till you get someone who will do it which won't be hard.
- Always say please and thank you when appropriate and always say "not a problem" when being placed on hold.
- Don't mention anything about data usage or throttling to them when placing this call to the exception of acknowledgement.
- Don't use your data like crazy after you successfully unblock your data or you will be throttled again.
- You may be subject to being throttled randomly after this call at anytime and calling back to them with these steps will always fix this issue if this happens so don't be alarmed.
Other Info:
A network/account refresh does what it says. It refreshes the network and your Straight Talk account on their side and removes the data throttle (temporarirly at times) so it behaves as if it were freshly setup just as it was on day one.
I used to have data problems also, but here recently I have noticed that my data speeds have returned to what they were when I first switched to ST. I haven't called them or done anything different with my settings, other that my usual flashing once every couple days.

Tried this... it didn't fix the throttling for me. They were helpful though and everything went as you described, except for the wanted outcome.

Just an update on my throttling issue. I emailed them and got a call back from them later. This person fixed my throttling issue. I turned off my phone, they did something on their end, and I turned it back on... no more throttled connection. Prior to this, https connections would fail due to the low bandwidth, the play store would say it wasn't connected, etc.
Just attempted this. The manager went through my browsing history, became rather uptight and questioned me about my browser usage. He then read to me the Data and Throttling terms and even caught onto my tether. He then went on to tell me that since I was now aware of the terms, usuage against them after my next refill will result in my service being shut off.
In short, it didnt go well...at all.

Not to point fingers but what was your data usage?
I had to call about throttling 3 days ago and after asking for a network reset they asked me to restart my phone (international Galaxy note 2, cut down sim to micro sim) and after the restart it was at full speed again. I asked what they did and they claimed nothing. I had restarted five times already but was still at 30 kB/s. I wish I knew how long I had been running slow since I'm on wifi a lot.

I can say that besides being throttled I have just as great coverage phone\data as I did with at&t..My average DL is about 6mbs UpL is around 1.5mbs witch I find to be good enough. ..On the other hand I was only 10 days into my month and was Indeed THROTTLED. .my data usage for 10 days was 1.3 gigs...Hardly any..averaged 108mbs per day...1 day I hit 300mbs and thats when I was throttled..I did indeed read up on how to fix the problem. .called CS and that failed a few different times..gonna have to wait till next month and keep data down even more than I already do...I dont tether or Stream..Just use the Browser...

Note 3 drop call and call quality

Hi,
I am just wondering if a lot of people on Sprint has experienced a lot of unpredictable drop calls and unstable call quality?
I tried updating the phone, exchanging the phone, but the problem is still there. Is this a common defect for this specific phone? Or this is just Sprint network creating the problem?

Most likely the network. This phone has been rock solid for me!
It has to be the network in your area...I use my phone anywhere from 5-10 thousand minutes a month. .. if I had any of those problems this phone would have gone back within a week. ... it's been very solid though.

On the original firmware and modem I dropped 85%of calls. Then the next update mi5 got barely better. Mj4 had been much better,it still drops calls at least a couple times a day. I dropped more calls in one day on the note 3 then I did the entire time combined on my note 2.
I get 4-5 bars anywhere in my house. Mind you, I'm like 500 feet from a tower. (If they throw LTE on this tower, I'm set...)
I sometimes rock on full bars. 3G is also super strong. (2mbp/s on CDMA 3g? Not too bad)
But generally speaking, My Note 3 has none of these issues. Sprint is known for their voice clarity. Note 3 enforces this.

I tried that already. But the call quality is still really unstable. Now I really don't know what to do. Perhaps I should exchange the phone to Galaxy s4?

Considering your problem is probably the Sprint tower in your area, you would most likely be spinning your wheels. Take your phone to your local Sprint dealer to see if they can suggest anything. If they can't help you, try a different carrier if the problem persists.
I've had issues where I place a call and there is no tone or anything, however the recipient's phone rings like normal, but when answering can't hear anything either.. I'm kinda of disappointed with call issues on this phone, because otherwise it's a beast.
