Change System sounds particularly startup and shut down - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

I renamed PowerOn.ogg in system/media/audio/ui/poweron.ogg and added my own PowerOn.ogg and set permissions
it flat out ignored it and played the old sound file anyway. so I am guessing there is "another" set of sound files somewhere else and its not using the defaults in system/media/audio/ui/poweron.ogg
where might I find them?
OK I found it.
its the PowerOn.ogg in system/media/audio/ui/XAS
replace that one and your good to go Don't forget to set permissions.
PowerOff.ogg is just in system/media/audio/ui/
I am converting my sound files to 160kbps mono 44khz ogg and it seems to like that just fine.
I have attached the files if anyone wants to use them. it won't let me attach ogg files so I rar'd them up.

using .wav files for ringtone?

Hi, I've searched for info on how to use .wav files for ringtones and have found only midi/polphonic files etc, of which I'm not to sure of how to do. I've tried moving some .wav files into the rings folder but all I get is a bip when I try it. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong and how to resolve this would be much appreciated. Thanks
they need to be PCM wav files
Thanks Rudegar. PCM is what? Is there a program that will convert standard .wav files to PCM .wav files. I'll do a search on the forum for info also.
Peace.
Pulse code modulation, shortly PCM is the standard wav file  . You might have tried a wav file with some kind of compression, and wm2002 cant handle that. In wm2003, you can use windows media also. Thats good if you want to have music as ringtones. Just put the .wma into the ringtones folder.

[A]How to hide Ringtones/Notifications from Music Player, Remain visible to system

I have scanned various threads regarding this topic and we all know how even if you place your ringtones/notifications in a different folder than your music files they still show up in Music Player
We also know about the 2 workarounds: Use a different music player that lets you pick which directories your music is stored (best solution so far) or put an empty file named .nomedia where your ringtones are. That is not a good choice since it hides the ringtones from media scanner and therefore will not be selectable as a ringtone or notification unless you use a third party app.
Workaround #3: (my preference)
I followed the instructions from this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7375013
1) - On your sdcard, create a folder called "media", then create another folder in that called "audio".
2) - Inside the "audio" folder, create 3 seperate folders called "Alarms", "Notifications" and "Ringtones".
3) Convert your ringtones and notifications from MP3 to WAV. Yes they will be slightly larger, I converted PLAINRING.MP3 > WAV and it went from 74kb to 613kb. Not a big deal.
4) Copy the WAV files to the correct directories you just created and you've got tones! They will be hidden from Music Player but they will show up with all your other ringtones and notifications.
No need for root or any third party apps...unless you want to convert MP3 to WAV on your phone instead of a PC
Thanks for sharing...
Sent from my XDA app cuz I'm stalking your mom....
Create a blank text file on your pc and name it .nomedia (don't let it save the .txt extension) and place it in the directory you want to hide media from the player.

Thank you very much!!! Best solution so far!
I tried the "ringtones" folder, tried the .nomedia file, and neither of those solutions really worked well.
Your idea did the trick perfectly!
Stock music players haven't been updated yet? So, we can choose just the directories we want.

I am not sure, they might have updated by now - you resurrected a 3+ month old thread. Since you did not add to the solutions and your only question is something not directly related to fixing the issue and could have been easily checked out on your own, I am not sure for your reason for resurrecting this thread. Now that it has been brought back how about you check out the stock app and report back?
I just make a playlist that does not include the ringtones.

Just search on the play store for ogg converter and u can convert any sounds u want to ogg
I don't know if this is the correct way but when I was playing around with boot up sounds on my S2 I had a load of MP3s I wanted to try out as boot sounds so I just used a file explorer (root explorer on my phone, selected the MP3 and renamed it, replacing .MP3 with .OGG, simple!
I didn't use any convertor or anything and the phone recognized it as a .OGG sound file
I now have the Playstation 2 start up sound when my phone boots, pure awesomeness!

[Q] how to change the touch tones

hey guys i am rooted with s-on and hboot 1.58 with digital highs miui 2.9.21 and i seem to have trouble finding a way to change the sound that triggers when the screen is touched i went to system/media/audio/ui and i changed the effecttick.ogg to an mp3 and then i changed the file extension to ogg and when i click on the file it plays .. but when i reboot. it has no sound at all .. any help?
Build prop possibly, taking a shot in the dark
Signature (Don't ask me for help, couldn't careless if your phone explodes)
Try converting the MP3 to an OGG, otherwise you'd have to change an xml to call to the MP3, because it looks for the OGG. Changing a file extension doesn't always change the file type

ok i changed it and it WORKS!!!!!!!!! just remember to change permissions with root explorer or "explorer" AHHHHHHH imma change EVERYTHING!!!

Extract sound from apk

Hello,
I'm looking for a particular notification sound inside NAVER LINE.
I've tried to search the apk:
- Directly by opening it as an zip file, using 7zip.
- By "decoding" the apk with apktool (using the "decode" comand) and searching the output folder.
Well I don't really know what type of file it is. I tried .ogg, .wav and .mp3 formats .. I found some of the tones, maybe half of them but not the one I'm looking for.
The sound is called "Dimple", you can ear it by browsing the Tones list from Settings/Notifications->Tone ...
May someone help me :highfive:
Thank you !
