I had the same problem. I just downloaded the img file from the TWRP homepage and used dd to copy it into recovery.
You have to be rooted and have adb drivers installed to dd.
Install the latest version. As the previous version would hang at recovery sometimes.

I am currently running TWRP 2.3.1.0 and would like to update it to the most current version. Is there a specific process that I have to go through in order to update it correctly, or can I just download if from Goomanager and install it without any additional steps?
Thanks
Goomanager should work fine assuming you're rooted

This is what I did.
I do mine via fastboot, it's pretty easy just run fastboot flash recovery recovery.img and just make sure the TWRP is in your fastboot folder and you replace recovery.img with the latest file name you downloaded. GooManger should be much easier if you don't wanna use fastboot.

Good Afternoon,
Everytime I tried to install a recovery I get, "Main Version is older!" and wont let me install it.
Im using the one i download from this page
http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/98
my bootloader is unlocked.
How are you trying to install it?
Edit I looked at your pic you cannot install from hboot.
You have to fastboot flash

here are the latest cwm/twrp recoveries made by dhacker29 in recovery flashable format:
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B-53iD-71B3iTWhzNVc0QkdJSkk&usp=sharing
they can't be flashed with stock recovery, can be flashed only with existing cwm/twrp. if you're unlocked but running stock recovery, they can be flashed with safestrap.
all thanks to dhacker29!

So instead of using rsd to go back to stock, we can flash this as we would a custom ROM?
I can't seem to update TWRP, trying to flash using my current version of TWRP.

Thank you very much
Edit: I just fastbooted in TWRP 2.6.3.2 but when in TWRP it shows 2.6.3.0 still. It said it updated though through fastboot.

no, these zips update your cwm/twrp recovery to the latest version. if you want to avoid using rsd, make a nandroid of your stock unmodified system.

i have no idea what the problem could be. i flashed the new twrp with cwm, rebooted recovery, and it shows 2.6.3.2.
you did extract the recovery.img from the zip before fastbooting, correct?
you know what, i downloaded the img file from DHackers Android Hosting. Let me download the ZIP file and flash it through TWRP.

heh, well you got the image straight from the source, shouldn't have any problems with it. the ones in the zip files are unmodified except for being renamed to generic "recovery.img" (so i don't have to modify the updater-scripts for each one).
actually, just realized that twrp for the x still shows as 2.6.3.0, i was thinking of the new razr m twrp which does show 2.6.3.2. you can tell it's updated by the haptic feedback though.

Thank you. I figured it was updated because of the new vibration under settings.
Been driving myself nuts. I fastbooted it through fastboot, mfastboot, and mxfastboot.
Went back to hashcodes 2.6.3.1 then back.
Thank you for confirming.
Edit: DHacker just confirmed on twitter that he forgot to update a script so it will show 2.6.3 but all is well.

So will the CWM work on a 4.4 VZW Dev Ed? If so, can I flash it with TWRP? I know theres a CWM on the forums, but someone said you should only use TWRP with 4.4.

Correct. But would you need CWM to flash CWM, or could you use TWRP to flash CWM and it would overwrite TWRP?

Won't matter. I used twrp to flash the new twrp. Or use twrp to flash cwm. Shouldn't matter.

I've never flashed a recovery through a recovery. I've only ever used ADB. You can do two things.
1) Extract the zip file to remove the recovery img
2) If the OP doesn't mind me posting this you can go to DHacker's files and get the CWM recovery img he has there.
On the rezound I could take a .IMG recovery and rename it to PH98IMG.img, boot into bootloader, and it would auto flash the recovery... Does this method not work on the moto X?

Hi Guys,
I've got a SGP511 WiFi only (castor_windy), with root access and an unlocked bootloader. but to install AOSP 7.1 I need to update my version of TWRP to 3.0.0.
I installed TWRP via TabZ2-lockeddualrecovery2.8.26 batch file and can access recovery but every time i select install look at my SD card and change to images and select the castor_winsy 3.0.0 image i dont get an option to install to recovery i only get kernel how do i resolve this ?
I have re flashed FW (KitKat) via flashtool loads of times
rooted
installed TabZ2-lockeddualrecovery2.8.26 batch file
and every time i get the same option.... cant flash to recovery or boot only kernel
i have attached a screenshot so that nobody thinks i am going mad
can you please help me thanks :fingers-crossed:
It's been a while since I used TWRP 2.8.XX...so no idea what's the issue there but I'd just flash TWRP recovery via fastboot. Worked for me without any problems :good:

Hi ... Is that using the ADB fastboot recovery TWRP.img?
I am on KitKat just wondering if that's why it won't work have you got to be on 6.01 ?
Well, actually it shouldn't matter on which Android version you are, but to have the latest boot.img and radio.img installed I'd flash the latest stock ROM available here on XDA which means by the way having TWRP 3.0.2.0 as well and after that you might be ready for AOSP 7.1
Just have look at kulvertti's thread in the "General" subforum. Since you have already intalled a custom recovery there shouldn't be any problems.
Lockeddual recovery is not compatible with any custom rom
Please follow the instructions in the thread

i had no problem flashing the boot.img that part was ok but when i went to flash the recovery it never seemed to work for me, in the terminal window in the SDK programme tools folder which is the same folder as the image i downloaded from your thread is in (Twrp-3.0.0-0-castor-windy.img and twrp_castor_windy.img) it said something about sizes but said it went ok tried to boot into recovery and it never worked
in the terminal window whilst my SGP511 was in fastboot mode i typed fastboot recovery Twrp-3.0.0-0-castor-windy.img is this is correct script or have i got this wrong ?
i am currently on Kitkat does this matter
