Hello guys,
I am working very hard to bring for this Christmas SensatioN 3 theme along with SensatioN ROM 2 for SGS 2. I don't have much time for development, but I try to dev as much as I can when I have time.
I had a lot of requests for supporting other phones and I said I will do it a long but I haven't got the time to do it.
As I don't have time to support multiple phones, I will need someone to take over the port for this phone. If is there anyone here who has worked before on theming and he believes that he can port the the SensatioN theme exactly as it is (not some images copied from frameworks, a little layout changes and done), then please send me a PM.
I will make a team and I will give you all the resources you will need along with my support when I am available for making this port right.
Now, I am working to bring SensatioN 3 on SGS2 for Christmas and I am a lot behind my original schedule, but I think no one will be mad here if they receive this theme in january.
I will make a donation fund for SensatioN team for users who would like to donate.
Best Regards,
Crysis21
I can grab the port and maintain it for ya bro.
Is it necessary since we can port it automagically via hellraiser?

No, it's not necessary because everyone can hellraise a rom. I don't know too much about the hellraiser but in my previous experience from i9000/captivate/vibrant ports from a phone to another with just kernel/modem/key layout adjustments worked, but a lo of users complained about different ****s and so on... that's why the question is:
do you have any problem when you hellraise a rom? because if you do have problems, then it's necessary to port the rom(by port i mean recreating the features i implemented based on an original at&t rom, not just changin a damn kernel)

Crysis hellraise(should) make your ROM completely useable for our phones. Takes all of 1 minute to drag drop zip and then flash and test to make sure 100% working. That would be the easiest option that way when you release an update for i9100 you could just drag hellraise package into that update and release. Fairly easy process

Yea its 100% stable hellraised over. Thanks for thinking of the i777 peeps!
Heard from Cezar at all? Been a while since I've seen him on here or IRC.
no, I haven't spoke to Cezar since my i9000 days of deving. Last time I know he was very busy with his job
Just hell raised this ROM seems stable atm

As far as things that might be broken when Hellraising - see the Hellraiser thread for details. I try to track known issues.
Main things I can think of at this point are:
1) STOP_APP_SWITCHES protection level is set to 2 (signature) on I9100 ROMs. It's set to 3 (signature and system) on I777 ROMs. This causes force closes when tapping NFC tags with NDEF data. I haven't figured out how to fix this one yet.
2) Permissions get clobbered routinely for /data/misc/wifi, preventing tethering settings from being stored on XXKI3-based ROMs and many other 2.3.5 bases, however I've heard this is a problem for I9100 users even when running on their own devices.
FYI SensatioN 1.7 was Hellraiser's first test case.
As I always appreciate having new development and another choice for our awesome phone, this is not a rom yet, so Im going to move this to General. Please feel fre to carry on and conduct business as needed in this thread.
Since Task650 will be overseeing this when its ready, he can make his own thread... that way he can keep his own updates and thread updated as he sees fit.
Thank you all for cooperating.
I can't wait to see the outcome of the new sensation3 theme. The sensation ROM is favorite from the i9100. Does anyone know what the base for it will be for our phones?

Hello everyone I am new to Android world as of today. I've been on iPhone for the past 2 years and honestly apple has nothing compared to Android. My galaxy note is like a handheld computer... like holy s**t I'm so overwhelmed right now. But as a noobie I do have a couple questions...
Is it worth rooting and flashing a custom ics ROM (what's the best ics ROM to date) when my service provider Telus is releasing ics by early July?
Also, is it possible for me to download the official ics via ota with a rooted phone? If so how do I do that. I've read threads that sometimes rooting disables ota download.
Thanks for looking and I apologize for being a dumba**.
Sent from my SGH-I717D using xda premium
Are you new to android? Then experience your android phone as it is without rooting just yet. As you experience your phone and read some threads you will get to know if rooting is for you or not. This also will allow you to see if your phone may have issues.
If you want the OTA Telus ICS then I suggest you don't root. I don't believe you would receive the OTA unless you were stock unrooted. So my suggestion would be to hang in there for a little time.
Welcome, and congratulations on seeing the light!
The ICS roms we have are awesome so far, with only a couple random bugs that don't keep them from being daily drivers. I definitely recommend rooting and romming if you take the time to read up on everything you can about it. It's a very simple process if you take your time, and definitely worth learning.
Also, if you feel like doing the official update get familiar with how to go back to stock. When you go back to stock, it renews your warranty and also your ability to receive official firmware updates.
Personally, I think that custom roms are better than official, and once your official is released, you will be able to get a rooted version on here within a day out two at most usually. The only time my Samsung phones have ever had stock software is the first and only the first day I have them, and also if I need to do a warranty exchange
Edit: not seeing a stock package for Telus, stop I would hold on for a bit or try to work with a developer to get them what they need to set up a stock Odin package for Telus users.
Second edit: actually it looks like there is a stock package for you. I can help more with some links later, but can't right now

Welcome to the best phone world you can imagine and you made a wise choice to pick up the big boss aka the G note...youll love it stock or rooted and with customs roms on it....this community is the best and has some great devs also any rom you choose your gonna love their rom believe me....Ive been to here and went to the htc one x and to the international note and now im back to stay....those other phones couldnt compare to this one...the international note is brick heaven and the htc one x is just too damn small when your coming from a note lol....but if you love having your phone tweaked out like me then yes root and rom it out lol...but if all that doesnt matter than you can stay stock and still love the phone just as much....but once again wise choice on the phone and glad to have you here....
Please make yourself familiar with the phone first like everybody else suggested. I have gone through few android phones and I still have so much to learn especially when it comes to rooting and loading roms. With samsung, there's a flash counter if you care about warranty and what not even though there are ways to go around it. I have rooted mine but staying on the stock rom and waiting for the official ICS rom. GB rom is perfectly working fine for my needs.
Please read and read over and over everything before you go ahead and mess around with the rom.

There is a flash counter reset, so that's basically a null point. Plus, many people have had no problem returning or exchanging with it tripped.

Yes. I know there is. That's why I said there are ways to go around. I have rooted mine with the one roloracer posted and can use CWM to flash all different roms without even tripping the flash counter to begin with. One less step of needing to reset the counter.
I just want OP to be aware of it.

Welcome Android! The Note is my first Android phone. I also came from iPhone and don't regret the move at all. Note is the best overall phone experience I've had.
This is sort of on topic, is there a comparison thread of the different roms and what they have to offer vs. others? That kind of thread might be really helpful for new and seasoned pros.

just know that you will lose a lot of the S-pen and all Touchwiz capabilities if/when you go with any version of cm9, aokp, or aosp.
I'd stock with GB for a few weeks so you can get used to the menu interfaces and lingo surrounding Android. After that, game on!
Welcome to Android, friend.
Normally, when I first buy a phone, I like to play around with it stock for a few months before flashing the radio or switching roms etc. Just to get familiar with the phone. Since you're new to the whole Android platform, you should definitely get used to it first since there are endless possibilities you can play around with even with a stock rom.
An official ICS 4.0.3 has already been confirmed for release, why not wait for it? An official update will always be 100% safer and run a lot smoother.
This is what I recommend and I am going to be patiently waiting for the ICS 4.0 to officially be released. It's just a matter of time.
How many times have we seen a user new to android/note that root, flash, and ATTEMPT to reset the flash counter only to come to this board crying that their phone is bricked? (one or two a month?)
As others said, if you root/flash, when Ice Cream Sandwich becomes available from your carrier, you will not get it.
If you do root/flash, DON'T worry about the flash counter because if something goes wrong with reseting the flash counter, you might have a brick but most likely several hours of panic/frustration trying to get your phone working.

Its more so a new user to xda thing as I see it. Yes, its partially a new to android thing, but if they learned how to search and read and learn everything they can, all of the info is out there to safely do anything. I had one brick way back when with my captivate, and from that point on I made sure to read as much as possible before doing anything. New users think they will just have everything handed to them and it will work perfectly, which is where they run into problems because they don't know of all the common problems and mistakes due to taking the fast track instead of actually learning about the processes.
Bottom line is they need to not only search and read, but also absorb and understand the material that is available on this site.

The more a user reads and researches the less cluttering threads we have and the more they learn
Which the MAJORITY of people here don't do..

My advise would be to wait at least a month, do your research, stay on top of the forums, read all the important threads, etc. When I moved over from iPhone I waited about a month and even though it is soooo much easier to root an Android then jailbreaking an iPhone, its just means its that much more easier to make mistakes. Take your time, don't rush it Welcome to the dark side.
This thread will be more like an advanced user/development "bible", to help keep the threads I am linking to clean, and to put all the information in one place. This information will also be put in the advanced section of the amaze bible doc, and also the WIKI we are working on.. I want to make sure anyone who wants this information has NO problem finding it!
I've seen a lot of people who have been making comments about "wanting to learn" at the same time that I am seeing the developers/contributors in these forums start offering "how-to's" for some of the more advanced functions.. I've also seen some comments from users who have not made any significant/consistent contributions - the secret they may not be aware of, if you can successfully read and understand enough to do the stuff we do in these forums, then YOU can take that to a new level.. and offer something back.
I will update this thread with some of the different threads/tutorials that already exist, and I would like to see people give feedback on the types of information that might be useful.. instead of just propositioning people who already develop, who may be busy with other things - let's crowd source some of our own development, after all, we all started somewhere..
Everything here, and all those how-to threads will be added to the amaze wiki - which will eventually replace the current always up to date amaze bible(doc)(which we need help updating btw, anyone on XDA can help contribute by helping do THAT here). HINT: ANYONE can help contribute to our knowledge base in the wiki! Please do! Before you give negative feedback to any dev, I want you to ask yourself - what have I contributed?
First, the bible I already posted some Advanced Android 101: So you wanna go to the next level?
If maybe building from source isn't your thing, you could look in the Everything Development Thread which has an ongoing discussion about how to COOK(or customize) a rom, a good first step toward conquering bigger and better things.. if you want to give this a go, read that thread, ask good questions, and help us create a solid starting point for future developers!
Next, with the recent release of the source for the ICS kernel, there has been a lot of interest in getting that running - Here you can learn how to Build Your Own Kernel, and then you can easily find posts by several devs working on getting these kernels fully working.. currently the issue is getting WIFI working(which we knew might be an issue), but THIS is something that users can help figure out..
If you can setup the build environment for building your own kernel, then you can ALSO [TUTORIAL]How to compile CM9 for the Amaze 4G - if you can learn how to do this, you will learn the right questions to ask to research how you may contribute to the project..
This post I have posted many useful links to different guides for porting - no one guide is going to be perfect, but if you read them and try them out.. you will learn a TON, and maybe even have a successful port! Remember, porting heavy framework changes like AOSP, sense4, aokp, etc - some of it is kernel dependent and will require more than any guide can spell out.. trial and error my friends.

Are there any more development/advanced tutorials in the amaze forums I missed? Any in any other forums you have seen that are well written? Any questions you have about something not covered can be asked here, but please post in the relevant thread if your question relates to it! I would really like this thread to be more for feedback about what we can help YOU do, so if you have any suggestions/questions regarding how we can help you do that, please post!
This post will have some of the related but not easily categorized, random information I find in the future..

Well, compiling is processor intensive, even if the computer is sluggish, a semi-decent processor and a fair amount of ram do all of the work once you finish.. and there is stuff in the bible for customizing themes and more under Advanced Android 101: So you wanna go to the next level? Then there's the Everything Development Thread, that doesn't require a powerful computer at all, you're just switching out files before flashing.. and I am going to start posting some of the stuff I've learned in there soon too!
If you have anything you'd like to see, or anything you might have to offer.. feel free to post it

Well, first, go into different roms, and look at their changelog - see if you can figure out what they are changing - don't just look at the roms in these forums.. look in other forums too. Download a rom, look at the updater-script to see if there is anything there that is making the change in that you saw in the changelog.. look at the files the updater script specifically sets permissions for(if it does), as those files are usually modified, hence why they have to set permisions.. look at the /system/etc folder.
Get a program like winmerge(I think that is what it is), or filemerge for mac, or some other program that will compare files AND directories line by line.. compare a stock rom to a modified rom- as long as it compares directories too, it will output which files the stock rom didn't have, which have been changed, what has been changed- THIS is the easiest way to figure it out for yourself. Piece by piece.
For example, right now I am trying to figure out why the custom kernel here isn't changing my clock speed - if I unpack the zip file, I see he has replaced the init.qcom.post_boot.sh file, and if I compare that with the stock rom, or the energy rom I am using, I see he commented out the lines that change the frequency.. so I look at the updater script, the aroma_config file, and each file tells me what it is doing.. I see the badass.sh file creates a file called 89badass in the init.d folder.. part by part you can figure out exactly what he was doing, how he was making the changes.
There is no real "guide" that is going to help as much as finding a way to figure it out for yourself.. programs like filemerge and winmerge are free and easy to find, and DEFINITELY give you a good place to start. Technically making your own rom is just making changes to a stock rom until you are actually reCODING something - but those changes can be pretty huge and technical, and do awesome things.. you just got to figure out what they are, and how to do them.
Everything above should give you a good place to start..

Howdy all,
I am looking at the Crash ROM for my Note 2, mostly because it seems to be the best at supporting the S-pen and the features that make the Note 2 more than just an oversized S3. Question though... I cant find anywhere that states if the ROM does or does not support the Verizon version of the Note 2, SCH-I605. The offical ROM posting is in one of the other dev forums, and the only post I could find asking for Vzw support wasnt answered.
Does anyone know if Crash ROM will work for me?
If not, is there a similar ROM everyone uses to maintain maximum use of the S-pen and other features?
Thanks
Why don't you link the thread? Also you could just make a backup and give it a shot. If it didn't work just restore.

This is true... I am something of a noob when it comes to this, as I've only rooted one phone and it was a few years ago, so I am hesitant to experiment too much. Especially if something is specifically NOT designed for my device. You make a good point though. Could easily Nandroid myself right back to stock.

Understandable. I personally wouldn't try it because it seems to have a modem flash built in. I'm sure it would be okay, but I don't like to play with the modem.
I'm not sure what it does special with the s pen though? Any of the Verizon touch wiz bard ROMs keep use of it. So check out Eclipse (my personal choice), clean vROM, Jedi (crazy fast), or Beans

Thanks for the recommends! I will check those out. I had just read several posts and seen some vids which indicated Crash maintained more support for the pen and other Note 2 features. Some ROMs apparently dont. Im still getting up to speed on what my options are. Thanks again.

Hi all! I had an E4GT and I can say that I am comfortably experienced in flashing roms and all that fun stuff. Though I got a Sprint GNote 3, and Im thinking of getting it rooted sometime this week. Though before I do so I wanna make sure I do my homework, and get comfortable in the GNote 3 world. So if anyone could help me out I had some questions specifically about kernels and recoveries
So...
1.) one of the biggest questions I had was I know that the Kernel and recovery are separate. So how do I go about flashing recoveries?
I know that there is flashify in app market which a lot of people use to flash twrp. Though can I also safely use odin>PDA box to do so as well.
2.) And for Flashify and Odin which file do i use. img.tar for both?
3.) Will flashing a recovery via PC odin trigger yellow triangle on start up?
4.) Im assuming you can still use PC odin> PDA box to flash .tar kernels. Will this trigger triangle as well?
5.) though it seems that devs on note 3 page, have taken a favor to .zip files to flash in twrp rather then .tar, so is it generally safe to flash these .zip kernels in twrp?
and lastly, I have to say, ive been using the note 3 for several weeks and LTE seems to be everywhere and it is very fast. Browsing the web has been a breeze on this device. So im concerned that my note 3 being on anything other than Stock kernel will interfere with its performance, as ive read of some bugs here and there. Basically my question is do most people find that the custom kernels out there are buggy, and do you think I would be better off with stock kernel for now. If not what stable kernels do you recommend?
Thank you for puttin up with this somewhat tedious post, I just want to make sure I have all the info i need, so I dont mess up this beautiful device. So any responses, and clarification would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Answer, try Odin first, have flashify as your fallback. For some of us, the latter was the only option, not that we didn't try PC Odin first.
2.) And for Flashify and Odin which file do i use. img.tar for both?
Answer, Odin=tar, flashify=img
3.) Will flashing a recovery via PC odin trigger yellow triangle on start up?
Answer, trips the Knox counter. You'll not see the yellow triangle unless you go into the bootloader.
4.) Im assuming you can still use PC odin> PDA box to flash .tar kernels. Will this trigger triangle as well?
Answer, I believe no, but I'm unclear on this one. That stated, the only kernels of which I'm aware are zips. You could see if @freeza will cook you up something.
5.) though it seems that devs on note 3 page, have taken a favor to .zip files to flash in twrp rather then .tar, so is it generally safe to flash these .zip kernels in twrp?
Answer, only way of which I'm aware.

Answer, kernel development is just getting started, but we have some excellent choices for such a young device. Stable kernel is beast 2.3. Run with it. Iterations prior were buggy only when viewed through the prism of these were discrete options. They weren't, just honing of the same until it got to stable.

Answer, nothing tedious about it. Rather you ask now than later in a hot panic. You know what you're doing, which is 90 percent of the battle. Welcome to the community bro. Awesome compared with the E4GT.
Thanks

Happy to help. The only thing I would change from my post above is that the phone is way better than the E4GT. The forums there are the finest in xda.
