[Q] scheduled tasks problems - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a rooted GT-19300 running android version 4.2.2 with Touchwiz as the home screen/launcher on Vodafone UK. Over the past 2 weeks I have had a problem with using programmes which schedule activities - Titanium Backup Pro, and sound profiles. They all work fine if I run them, but scheduled activities set and then seem to disappear before the time they should work, and so I am having to set them manually. This wasn't a problem just 2 or 3 weeks ago, and I am not aware of any changes that could have caused these problems. I even changed the sound profile programme (from Profile Scheduler to Sound Profile) to see if that solved the problem - it did not. That makes me think it is either a software interaction or an os problem, but don't understand why it suddenly stopped working. Any help appreciated.

Suggest you download Catlog from play store and see if you can find anything relevant

I'll have a look at that thanks.

Problem using tasker

Phone: PLK_L01
Build: PLK-L01C432B121
The EMUI seems to be very quick to kill apps running in background which is mostly a great thing (too many apps are running background service for nothing).
Unfortunately, some times, it's useful.
I'm using Tasker but it's regularly killed by system (sometimes it last 2 days before being killed and some times only few hours)
Normally, the problem can be avoid in parameters with "protected apps" which normally allow you to select some apps that can not be killed. I've added Tasker to it but it still being killed...
I've also tried to put Tasker as a system app, not working too.
Tasker is also configured as "running in foreground" to avoid being killed, it's also not working.
Did some of you have the same problem with Tasker or another app htat need to run constantly in background ?
I've been using tasker for the last couple of weeks since I got my phone with no problems.
It's on the protected list with only one other app.
Sent from my PLK-L01 using XDA Free mobile app
I have been having issues on Tasker although are slightly different to the OPs. I also have Tasker set as protected and running in the foreground and I can see that it is running in the Taskbar. However, I have found that the tasks aren't being triggered at the times when they are supposed too. It seems that they will only trigger if I disable and then reenable Tasker each time.
The tasks that I have setup were imported from my old Nexus 5 where they were working fine, they are also the same tasks that I was using on a Moto G. Therefore I'm sure that the issue is with the phone and not Tasker itself.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this issue?

I've just noticed in the Tasker log that the TaskService keeps getting stopped, I presume that this causing the scheduled tasks not to trigger. But I don't know what could be causing the service to stop, I'm not running any app killers and just the stock power manager
I had a problem with protected apps being killed with all versions of the firmware until I installed b170, which solved it.
Try installing b170 and see if it solves your problem too.

Thanks for your suggestion however I think I now know that the issue is being caused by the Power Saving mode being set to "Smart", I have switched it back to "Performance" and I can now see that the tasks are being triggered as expected. So I guess that there is an issue with the "Smart" setting where it is still killing Protected apps. BTW I'm running B121

That's great
My problem persisted even after I set the power saving mode to performance.
I used tasker with honor 6, nexus 4 and now honor 7. the only mobile that doesn't work is honor 7, even with last version . Last week finally I uninstalled tasker with 4 months triying to work. the substitute is automateit and automate
Still in b140 and the problem seems to have been solved b itself...
Thank you all for your answers
Having the exact problem with my Huawei phone.
Model: SCL-L21
EMUI: SCL-L21C432B130
edit: I was wrong fortunately. It was not about Tasker and/or EMUI. I was using the "Last Cell" location Profile in Tasker and it didn't work properly so I thought it means Tasker is getting killed by EMUI battery manager (it's really aggressive). Fact is, Huawei is just good at switching cell towers rapidly, choosing between 3G, 2G or 4G while accepting a call or in other circumstances. This was the problem, Tasker is still protected from EMUI battery manager (2 days +).
Just add Tasker to the list of protected apps (PhoneManager - Settings - Protected Apps)

Updates, functions, apps, Bluetooth don't work on two Samsung devices

Hello,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 (SM-G930F running TouchWiz on Android 7.0) and a Samsung Galaxy Tab A6 10.1 (SM-T580 running TouchWiz on Android 6.0.1), and I recently realized that I didn't receive any notification from Facebook Messenger on my Galaxy S7. It isn't a issue related to authorizations nor something in the settings. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the app, when I uninstalled I had to reboot the phone, and it never finished reinstalling according to the Play Store while I could in fact open the app.
Besides this, the blue filter also doesn't activate automatically like before (I checked the settings, and it should activate automatically), and Bluetooth, while detecting nearby devices, every time I send a file it just loads infinitely. On top of that, daily notifications that should pop up during the day suddenly all showed up at the same time at 2 AM.
Then I saw that I couldn't update any app on the Play Store, so I tried to follow Google feedback and uninstall Play Store updates. Now the Play Store won't update at all and the apps won't update either.
I realized it was the same thing on my Galaxy Tab, Messenger and Bluetooth not working, apps not updating. I want to point out that the tablet and the phone doesn't run on the same system. The system update notification showed up but it is impossible to confirm the update, touching the option in the settings doesn't do anything.
I ran antivirus software and Malwarebytes on both devices and both didn't detect any threats.
If it was only one device I could imagine it would be something that may have went undetected during the antivirus analysis, a problem that doesn't have an easy answer and I would maybe have restored it, but to have it on two devices makes me wonder if it will really fix it. The tablet interacts with the phone only via Bluetooth and my Google account, and is mostly used to take notes, it's not likely that what happened to the phone could have been transmitted from the phone to the tablet.
It worked fined until less than a week ago. I didn't download anything suspicious, the only thing I recall is having tried to update the Messenger app.
What could be the problem ?
Thank you.

Is it the App, Android or the phone that's causing Facebook problem ?

Firstly some details:
App in question: Subway Surfer's
Phone: Huawei P10 Lite (WAS-LX1) with Android 7.0 [NON-ROOTED]
Put simply - during the last few updates of the App (subway Surfers), I've noticed there's a problem with Facebook login & 'Top Run' and 'High Scores' tables
The Top Run/High Scores tables work fine before update, but when the game updates - the Tables do not show up, even though I'm still logged into Facebook.
If I log-off Facebook & try to log back in... I am unable to
I have contacted the developers Killo & despite their best efforts - it boiled down to 'Try uninstalling/reinstalling the game' - which incidentally DOES fix the problem (until next update) but this also means all progress is lost except for Highest Score & any purchases (FYI - Yes I've tried the usual 'clear cache'/'clear data' tricks)
I managed to figure out a workaround thanks to the phone having it's own 'backup' app (this video shows what I have to do) but it's a pain having to do this every 4 weeks. Incidentally this method also works with Helium Backup
The thing is though - I don't have any problems with my [cheap] Fusion5 tablet (on Android 5.1) or on my old Galaxy S4 (stuck on Android 4.2 due to 'KNOX trip') with the update / Facebook 'High scores' problem
At first I though it may be I accidentally turn off an access/accessibilty option on the P10 Lite (for security reasons) or because (on phone) I have it 'storing to SD card'..
I've checked these & can't see anything disabled but the tablet also stores everything to SD card & that doesn't have a problem.
I've googled this problem & it seems other people also have facebook login problems (just not quite the same as mine) & usually solutions are ' Uninstall all facebook apps/Subway surfer, then install them back in' but considering I don't have any facebook apps installed (on phone OR tablet) & yet the tablet/Galaxy phone works but P10 phone doesn't makes me think it's not the facebook apps that's the problem - more likely android OS or App
Has anyone else experienced this type of problem.. if so have they found out the real reason for the 'bug' & have they got a proper fix to it that doesn't require me to 'fix' it each update ??
Many thanks in advance

[Help] Whatsapp videopreview black screen with audio

Hello everyone,
I have a Galaxy S7 (SM-G930F) with Kernel 3.18.91. and Android 8.0. The phone was rooted just recently with the latest version of magisk.
I am not quite the expert, but I will try my best to describe the issue.
Basically after I rooted this phone, I started noticing that I could no longer play back videos in Whatsapp before I send them (the preview window where you can edit it before sending it).
All it does now is play back the audio and show a black screen. It doesn't crash or anything, the content of the video is just not being played except the audio.
Video playback is completely fine in the stock gallery app and everywhere else.
I already reinstalled Whatsapp and restarted my Phone
I have the following modules for magisk installed:
Busybox 1.31.1
debloater 17.3.3
Viper4Android FX 2.7.1
Samsung 4K60 Camera Mod 7.6.86
I also removed some of the bloating software with the terminal, but upon noticing this issue I decided to revert some of the changes. I do not know if this issue persisted beforehand. I was thinking that I might have deleted something here that was important for its functionality, but then the stock player wouldnt work either right?
I would rather not do a factory reset to fix this, if possible. However, if there is no other possibilty is there a way to backup all my modules and settings?
Here is what I tried:
reinstall Whatsapp multiple times
restart the phone
revert some of the changes in the debloater terminal
deactivate HW overlay
My guess is that I deleted something in the terminal that was important, is there a way to know for sure?
I hope someone can give me some hints as to what this problem is about. I will make sure to add screenshots of the list EDIT: need 10 posts to send links so I will just do it manually.
list of removed apps:
Basic Daydreams
Skype
tuiService
VoiceAssistant
upsmtheme
gearmanagerstub
samsung galaxy friends
language packs
galaxy essential widgets
Gear VR Service
S voice
Samsung gear, account, billing, cloud
EDIT 2: I found a temporary fix by enabling force GPU rendering in the system settings, I double checked by enabling the refresh indicator and previewing a video. Once I disable this option, video preview no longer works again. Question now is, if there is a way for me to exclusively enable this for whatsapp to save battery life
Just switch rendering by gpu in develop opp
Manny thanks buddy its works
Tomas
How to Enable Force GPU Rendering:
First of all "THANKYOU" for the solution of error. May GOD Bless You
1. Go to Settings and scroll all the way down to the bottom.
2. If you don't see the option, tap on About phone (About device) and look for an entry called Build Number.
3. Tap on Build number 7 times until you get a message saying “You are now a developer“.
4. Find Force GPU Rendering option and enable it.
Request for prayers.

same issue here with my Galaxy S7 EDGE in whatsapp i factory reseted reinstalled whatsapp but still same issue any help?
Having the same issue here with my s7 edge too i haven't rooted or done anything to it. Its a tmobile version.. Before it was blank screen with sound.. Noe there is no sound at all.. Any solution please
Seems to be a general bug for some devices...
Force GPU rendering and clearing my cache didn't fix it for me, however, I was able to get around the black screen by hitting the "Add files" icon, and immediately hitting "OK" without adding any additional files. Video preview renders fine after doing this each and every time. It's a hassle but it works for me. Hope this helps someone.
In case this is an entirely different bug, the file's audio still plays for me when I tap the black screen on my Google Pixel 3.
Thank you so much i have been dealing with this in my samsung s7 too for a long time and i fixed it with an old version of whatsapp, until today that i couldn´t use it anymore because it was too old. This is the first site that i have seen a real solution to this problem. Thanks againn!!
It worked
I enable developer and force gpu rendering and I can now preview videos before uploading on whatsapp. I've been having this issue from the time I got my phone and now it works fine thanks guys

Quickstep / Launcher3 causing several annoying problems...

Hi all.
A3 64GB 4GB RAM - Android 11 Stock ROM no root access bc I need banking apps to work. So I can´t go lineageOS for example bc of unlocked bootloader detection not being able to be hidden by magisk anymore. (as far as I know)
I´ve been having several problems for quite some time now and only now I have been able to pinpoint the root cause.
My issues were mainly with whatsapp (but other apps as well like voice recorders) randomly disabling access to the microphone. So the other end couldn´t hear me. Or nothing was recorded. Never happened with regular phone calls. Just non system apps.
Tried things I´ve read on several forums. Such as disabling Google Assistant. revoking microphone permissions from several apps etc. nothing worked.
Another thing I noticed, that Twitter app was doing stuff it didnt on my mothers phone or my tablet. It randomly just refused to show content. No notification updates or my own tweets and replies were gone. (nothing to see here or you haven´t tweeted anything yet) several times a day.
I had to manually kill those apps and restart them and then, at least for some time they worked properly.
So I thought I´d start some debloating through adb and see what happens, bc I suspected RAM issues.
Deleted several apps. google stuff, fm radio etc. And since I´ve always used Lawnchair I decided to remove the standard launcher as well.
com.android.launcher3 which was installed under the name of Quickstep as default launcher. immediatley I noticed that 2 button navigation was gone and it automatically switched to 3 button nav. which I could live with. but switching between apps (square button) didn´t work anymore. however I decided to leave it that way for a few days to see if above problems still occured. They didn´t!
Reinstalled the package bc I like 2 button navigation. And minutes later twitter started acting up again and then I gave a whatsapp call to my mother right away. She couldnt hear me. Removed it again. After two days still no problems with microphone or twitter.
Now this is my dilemma. I´d like to use quickstep feature but also want people to hear me without having to kill apps several times a day.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
