[Q] 64 GB sd card in Xperia SGP351 LTE - Xperia Tablet Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
I apologize, but I do not speak English. I hope it can be understood.
I'm having a problem with my Xperia Tablet Z: copying and reading files on a 64 GB card is very complicated .
Following guidelines found on the Internet, I formatted the SD card of 64 GB in FAT32 with 32 KB cluster. However, it seems that my tablet is compatible with cards up to 32 GB only. The problems continue.
I noticed that an update on the Android similar to the model of my (also LTE) (update for version 4.2) tablets allow the use of 64 GB cards. However, SGP351 model does not even appear among the models available for support on Sony's website, curiously.
So I ask, how can I solve this problem via software? I can not use the card for 64 GB, and also can not update my Android. The PC Companion says that software is updated on my tablet (version 4.1!).
Many thanks to those who are willing to help.

Question
Support a Sony Tablet S - SGPT 112 DE/S 32Gig an SDXC 64gig SDCard
I have Purchased a Sandisk Ultra SDXC 1 64Gig Class 10 30Mbs
It not Work. The Tablet say. Please Insert a Storage Card. Format with FAT32 not help. With the SDXC Card inside, after boot the SDCARD Internal Memory is not Show Anymore.
Is the Card incomatible or generally SDXC
what version of android do you have now? You need ICS release 6 for sdxc support!
I may be mistaken, but I recall support for SDXC memory cards formatted exFAT was first provided with the 4.0.3 release 6b firmware update. However, SDXC memory cards formatted FAT32 can be used with earlier versions of firmware.
My Tab have

We are talking about 2 different tabs here. R6b is newer Xperia tab s... R1a is original tab...
All you have right about sdxc ExFat format. Look at your sony site there is an info/statement about sdxc. Check, its there where are news about update . These sdxc formated are incompatible with sgpt 111/112/ 113 NOW . Maybe in future will be comp - who knows . I didnt check xts statement.
...but koto u can change sdcard format to Fat32 and you will have working with tab card.
I personally have same card as you but microsdxc 64GB with sd adapter. I resolved this problem by formatting it with my android phone (lt18i .4.0.3) .Exfat changed to Fat32. You can format it also via PC tool ( my case : I formatted my card first on PC win xp and after I have 32Gb card instead of 64. After that read somewhere that some OS ( windows generally) have restriction of reading Fat format to 32gb - but it doesnt mean that it cant read it. ) . Linux should read and be able to format to fat32 >32gb sd . Search 3 rd party app for pc to formatt.
Btw i have 4.0.3r5a,I can confirmed this card working also on ( 4.0.3.r5 ,4.0.3r1)
koto99 why you want to have ExFat formatted one ? transfer >5gb?You can also plug external hdd with ntfs and drive mount app with rooted tablet. Drive must have external dc to give own power supply.

Under Windows it looks good. Then only people who have personally experienced the case can help you. Sorry!
I pushed question about it to sandisk support. I ' ll post what they answered after I receive it.
Btw. read in support about sony nex-7 and sdxc. When formatted in camera windows 7 (which is compatible with exFat) sees as unsupported. When card is windows 7 formatted nex-7 sees as unsupported.
Btw1 about screen at #11 I see used space at 64.0KB. I experimented sth. After I formatted card the used space were same as I set in format tool in cluster size option. I tested this with easeus. Set to 8.0KB cluster size- after format used space was 8.0KB. If this screen is shortly after format you may set in format opt 64.0KB cluster.Did you try 32KB cluster? My Lt18i formatted my microSDXC as 32 KB cluster size and have active/ primary in easeus option.

As I promised here is an answer from sandisk technical support. Maybe some info there is obvious. I want to post state of manufacturer. In my mail I asked if sdcard can be damaged permanently by formatting it to fat32 and consequences about that (in my sgpt111). Also asked about tool app to format inside tablet( most tablets don't have that option). Check the tech repply esp "the only consequence".
Dear Customer,
Thank you for emailing SanDisk Technical Support. It is our goal to make sure you have all the resources you need to get the most from your product.
I understand that in exFAT, the 64GB microSDXC card is not detected by your Sony tablet. This is because the tablet doesn't support exFAT. After formatting the card in FAT32, the card seems to be working fine in the tablet and shows the full capacity.
The only consequence you may experience by doing this is that you won't be able to add any files larger than 4GB, due to the FAT32 limitation.
Transferring a 4GB or larger file to a USB flash drive or memory card http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/289/kw/4GB
You will be able to format the card back to exFAT, if your operating system also supports exFAT: Operating Systems that Support the exFAT File System http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3389/kw/exfat
If I understand correctly, you would like to know also if there is a difference between the microSDXC card and the SDXC card. There is indeed a physical difference between both cards:
- microSDXC: SanDisk Ultra microSDXC UHS-I card for mobile devices www.sandisk.com/products/memory-cards/microsd/ultra-class10-for-android/?capacity=64GB
- SDXC: SanDisk Ultra SDXC UHS-I Card www.sandisk.com/products/memory-cards/sd/ultra-uhs-1-class10-30mbs/?capacity=64GB
Regarding your question about the format option tool for the tablet, there currently are no development plans on this. You may keep an eye on the SanDisk webpage to see if there would be any plans on this.

Sorry m8, I was out for a while. I'm nfcec from Sony forums I've a Kingston 128Gb SDXC and what I can tell you is that the XTS already burned 2 cards. After 2 months they just stop working (but they worked nevertheless for that amount of time). This last time the tablet froze and when it rebooted itself the card wasn't recognized (not even on the laptop). Thankfully, Kingston is much more serious than Sony on support and they are replacing the card for the second time but they already have some doubts about the compatility of the device (Sony scores again). So, I don't know if what is going on with you is the same as with me. The card works on other devices?
P.S.: ICS 4.0.3 6b from mid-December was the update that made it possible the support for SDXC (64 gb and 128 gb) cards.

Same here. exFAT should work but NTFS isn't compatible. Try to format it with the SDFormatter 4.0 (official SD card formatter, google it) with eXFAT and see if it works. If it doesn't, try to format it with FAT32. The only disadvantage is that you can't put files bigger than 4gb with FAT32 format but the card should work as this type as always been supported.
thank you for your tip, i will try one of these days, for the moment i don't want to use this ****ing tablet, when i use it i have pain on my heart cause i pay 400€ + accessories for a half working tablet.

64 GB SDXC only reading as 32 GB

So after buying a new 64 GB San Disk card and having endless problems trying to get it to format in fat32 and having it use all 64 GB on the card I found a solution. There is a great app on the Play Store called Aparted (I didn't make, just found it) that will create partitions and format them in the format you need all from your Android phone. It solved my problem and I hope that it'll help others because I wasn't able to find anything really helpful on any forum on them Internets

CM12.1 nightly 20160203 cannot detect 64GB microSD

Hi guys
I just installed Cyanogen OS CM12.1 nightly 20160203 to my Xperia Z2 tablet SGP521 (the one with LTE)
after i thinkering with it for a while, i just realized that there isn't any microSD installed
so i pulled out the card and try to figure out what is wrong
I googled and find some answers but none of them is working for me
I tried to change the filesystem format to FAT32 with 3 different programs (acronis disk director, ease us partition magic, and dos version formater) and none of them is working.
my card is a exFAT file system
I'm very sure that my card is not a fake one (it is a sandisk ultra 64 gb microsdxc class 1)
I can read it from the card reader and it shows all the files inside but i cannot write to it and it is not showing in my tablet
Any idea what else to do to fix this?
Thanks guys

Using 64GB mSD Cards with Nook Tablet?

Recently purchased some 64GB mSD cards and found my original (unmodified) Nook Tablet would not recognize them.
Am still considering what version of CM to install but am favoring CM11.0 KitKat (Android 4.4.4) for my Nook Tablet (esp if can use exFAT mSD cards).
Background: I am still using a WinXP Desktop PC (standalone No Internet) for basic Word Processing and Photo Editing and found WinXP would not recognize the 64GB mSD cards. Googled and found WinXP needs an exFAT driver. "Description of the exFAT file system driver update package" https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/955704 Have the same problem with some of my Android devices so Googled using "Android exFAT driver" but did not find a Google driver like found for WinXP. This was originally posted "Android exFAT Driver?" http://androidforums.com/threads/android-exfat-driver.1005003/
Received answer from svim "Android already includes support for exFAT to a limited extent....if your phone doesn't already support USB OTG (a lot of newer phones do but not all), it's not a trivial task to add OTG support as it requires rooting your phone and a change to its Linux kernel."
This whole problem shows how little I know about Android!
Since this posting I was told by a friend that it is possible to Format a 64GB exFAT mSD card with FAT32 and should be recognized by Android device.
Before doing this, thought I would ask if any Nook Tablet owners are using 64GB (or larger) mSD cards?
If yes please tell what you did to successfully use these larger mSD Cards?
Thanks
Ken
The Nook Tablet specs indicate that 32 GB is the maximum SD card size. I doubt it will be able to deal with a 64 GB card.
