[Q] Strange problems with sleep or with sound - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
If phone is on stock samsung rom (latest 4.1.2 or experimental samsung 4.3) it can not go to sleep (turn of screen). If I install custom 4.3 or 4.2.2 or 4.4 rom phone go to sleep nicely but there is no sound in media. Phone have sound in call but no sound playing video or audio. When I put back stock or any other 4.1.2 rom, with sound there is no problem. But screen does not turn off. What could be wrong with phone? Where I have to look for problems?

If you´re in stock (4.1.2) There your dont get into "sleep"? Or only on experimental Android?

On stock 4.1.2 phone does not turn screen off (but everything else works). Also if I update to Open Europe test 4.3 firmware from here
http://www.sammobile.com/2013/12/13/open-europe-test-firmwares-available-for-galaxy-s-iii-gt-i9300-and-galaxy-note-ii-gt-n7100/
phone does not turn off screen.
If I put some custom 4.3 or 4.4 firmware (I have tried few) phone turns the screen off as it should, but then there is no multimedia sound. I can not play any video or mp3 file with sound... but there is sound when calling.

Do a full wipe, format internal sd card then use odin to flash the latest 4.3 official stock rom.
Test before you install/restore anything, if still the same then you have a hardware fault.

[Q] Problems back to stock

Hello all.
I have a Galaxy S3 (i9300) and changed the stock rom to CyanogenMod 10.1. As I was not satisfied with the camera I decided to go back to stock. I downloaded the foirmware in sammobile.com sock and put the rom with odin. After that I had several problems. I tried other versions of the stock rom, but nothing worked. When I turn on the phone, it takes longer than normal on the first screen (the first screen to turn on, where it appears samsung galaxy s 3). After the android loads, everything works normally, but when you connect the phone to pc it is not recognized, and the worst of the problems, when he gets some time with the screen off (locked) when I click to wake it, it takes too long to turn on the screen, or does not care, having to be restarted. I think he does not shut down, but is frozen with the screen off. When this happens I get the impression that the phone FIVA a little warm.
Can you help?
Thank you!
R: [Q] Problems back to stock
It looks like you mightve flashed the wrong stock version of the rom.
Also under my point of view cyanogenmod is not stable enough for s3, it is intelligible after all since the s3 is not in desperate need of updated roms for now, also there are mo stable 10 builds yet. I guess u chose cyanogen because it is very popular or because ure used to it, but ill go ahead and suggest anyways u flash jellybam or foxhound or rootbox roms, they are very stable and well developed.
As for the camera app: simply go into stock rom and thru titanium backup make a backup of the camera app(its advisable to clear app cache and data first), then flash the new rom and stuff, and then reinstall titanium backup and install the app backup. It should be easy since i own both original jelly bean camera and samsung galaxy s3 stock camera apps on my phone... reverting back to stock is useless once u got the power of the dark side of root

[Q] Screen Rotation Issues with Stock ROM

My current configuration:
STOCK JB 4.1.2
AT&T
Screen Rotation selected
Things I have tried:
Gyroscope calibration (result: ball stuck in the middle)
Leveling Applications from Play Store (result: looks like it calibrated but did nothing ultimately)
Used *#0*# - Sensors (result: All sensors passed except image test)
I view my phone horizontal and the screen rotates to landscape as expected. I rotate my phone to normal position and the screen is still displaying landscape. It should be portrait. HELP!!!!!!!
Redownload and reinstall the firmware to insure it was not a corrupted download or bad write.
I forgot to mention that prior to updating to official JB, I installed CM10 JB 4.2.2 and screen rotation didn't work at all. So I restored to stock and it still was broken. It was working prior to installing CM10 JB 4.2.2. I came to the conclusion that it had to be CM10's version that messed up my settings with screen rotation. I restored to stock 2.3.6 and tried everything possible. I restored CWM backup image of working image prior to install of CM10. Still having the same issue. Last night, I updated to official JB 4.1.2 via Kies and thought that they may fix it. I was wrong....

You've flashed several kernels at this point
Pretty much ruling out software issues (unless you've restored an app that's getting funky or something weird)
Kinda sounds like a hardware malfunction to me

You are NOT alone. CM 10.1 broke auto-rotate on a LOT of phones. I'm currently flashing CM 10.1 from 4/22/13, since that version worked correctly, to see if that will help.
I read about another phone having the same problem a while back, and they had some weird, contorted way of fixing the problem that, of course, could not be done to the Note.
P.S. I have also tried installing CM 10.1 from 5/02/13. No joy.
I hope installing the new Stock 4.1.2 between CM versions didn't yak the phone forever.
I give up. Hopefully, someone will come up with a flashable .ZIP file that can fix this mess.

[Q] Rooting broke Bluetooth and Youtube HELP!

I rooted my Galaxy S 2 yesterday and now my Bluetooth won’t turn on.
Also my Youtube app is only playing audio (except for a split second of video when I change the screen perspective from portrait to landscape or vice versa.)
I have CWM on android 4.0.4, can anyone help me fix this please?
Try different firmware. Be carefull how you get of 4.0.4 as brick bug problem. Don't factory reset.

He's right.
I recommend flashing to jelly bean via Odin with a jelly bean firmware from sammobile, and then rooting.
Also try to wipe data of youtube and bluetooth with e.g titanium backup, and then reboot your phone.

sound problem after update to JB

Hi all!
I recently bought used Samsung galaxy s3. It was shipped to me with Android 4.1.2. During customization i found out that when i'm listening to radio everything sounds perfect on earphones, but when i'm trying to listen to music stored on my SDcard or to watch a movie through stock players, all i can hear is nothing or noise when i turn volume on max. Then i flashed another stock rom but in 4.0.4 version. and then everything worked like a charm. I upgraded ICS to JB and i have the same issue. I wrote a mail to samsung and they told me to use *2767*3855# code, but it's not working. It would be a hardware problem but when it worked on ics and not on jb I realized that it has to be software related problem. Cas someone help me solve this mystery?
Go to settings, factory reset and test again. Perhaps follow sticky guides on flashing latest stock rom via odin on your pc.
Don't flash any older roms, they will cause sudden death.
factory reset didn't help :/

Low microphone volume (in call and recording)

This issue was mentioned before, but there isn't any recent or working solution. So...
My lower microphone doesn't work, neither in calls nor in recording applications It's very very quiet. Changing ROM, kernel, nuking the rom doesn't fix this, however sometimes the microphone works fine. Upper microphone also works fine (could be checked by switching to loadspeaker).
Does changing the charging board will fix this or the issue is elsewhere (on MB ie)? What board should I buy (new china one, used original)? What revision is best (2.2, 2.3 (this one I currently have). Or maybe the problem lays somewhere deep in the software (audio menu is ofcourse blocked)?
Is this problem even exist on the official rom?

Actually I didn't try one. But I tried:
- CM 10.1
- AOSP Neatrom 5.0
- Neatrom from 5.9 to 6.3 (problem first occured sometime after updating to 6.0, but I could have nothing in common)
Also tested serval Dorimanx kernel, Apolo 4.13 and 4.14, latest Philz and nothing...
Try to flash stock firmware over odin. First do the full wipe in recovery and then boot phone to download mode.
