Odexed or Deoxed? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

No current Note 3 ROMS interest me. So I'm wondering which of the two stock type roms would be better?
Pros and cons of these? What are they?

I am not an expert or a dev. I've been running Freezas stock deoxed rom with hot spot mod for two months without a single problem. I personally prefer Deodoxed. Maybe the experts can chime in but it's easier to theme on Deodexed. Pending on the rom.

That's the ROM I'm eyeing. Do I just flash it in ODIN like a normal stock ROM?
Does it have any performance differences?

Everyone here will have an opinion on this one, but I highly recommend that if you wish to start lightly, choose one of the two stock roms provided by freeza, both MJ4, with only root added. You can fiddle all you want with either of these and can't go wrong.
Freeze things you find that are draining your battery, or just irritants, like connection optimizer, instead of deleting. There's a ton of customization options available without having to try one of the excellent roms on the dev thread.
Flash either with TWRP.
As to Odex or DeOdex, that's your call. Some might argue that one or the other is better. In the end, that's your call. Odex does have its benefits, but then so does DeOdex. This phone is highly capable, with ample speed and space to spare. There is no correct answer. I suggest you try each to discover what you like.

So they don't have better performance over one another? It's purely for ease of use?

In general, Odex is snappier performance on boot, DeOdex is more flexible in terms of customization. But these are relative statements. Xda had a nice front page article on the merits of both. You might enjoy it.
I also added some items above to my original post. On this one, there are no right answers.
Case in point. Two awesome roms, JellyBomb and Odex Blue. Both of these guys work their tails off, help each other out, yet each has chosen a separate path.
Then you have freeza's rom, which is combined DeOdex and Odex (the framework).

Lamentably, I won't pick winners on this forum. I believe that the thread over there will give you your answer. From what I've seen, it's a very good rom.
I still suggest going with one of freeza's stock roms.
If you like inverted apps, I understand that the DarkHorse master (Gunthermic) has some very nice inverted apps that'll work well and look fantastic on freeza's DeOdex base.
I'm sure that Josh wouldn't mind you starting with a stock base with Gun's terrific inverts. I'm certain that Strongsteve won't mind either.
Just make sure to thank a all of them, ask for help here, and perhaps donate. These guys aren't making mad money here. They do it for the love of conquering.

If you mean CyanogenMod, there's none on this forum (yet) that even approximate it, though it looks like it is coming our way (see this post on this thread by this dev).
That stated, I believe that some may argue that to put an AOSP rom on this device would sort of kill its raison d'ĂȘtre (or debilitate all of its features), though I would not take sides on the matter, inasmuch as I don't like to aver anything that is a matter of personal choice.
I wish you luck!

Looking for stock totally debloated and optimized 3.16 based rom

Hey there
First up, I love my evo so much so that I have reverted to it after s3.
The thing is I like stock looking, yet debloated, deodexed, or odexed zipaligned and optimized roms.
I have been looking for one based on the latest ota in 3.16
Can anyone please help me get one or may be kind enough to make one for me
I have been advised to develop for myself by captain throwback, i am looking into that too.
Please chip in
Regards

MeanBean is very close to stock.. Way smoother then stock. Like butter
That's what stock with goodies is for. Debloated and optimized with a few optional tweaks.
Mean bean is OK. But somehow like big daddy I also feel its having some bug which hogs battery.
Stick with goodies, well I tried it as well. It was laggy here and there .
At this time I am in blue and jazz, though i don't particularly like its theme . But its smooth as hell and battery is good as well.
Would appreciate if someone can help.

ROM cleaner will get rid of tons of Sense's bloat. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1832162
I use a customized No Sense option on the MeanBean ROM and rid myself of over 100 apps on the starting apps count on MeanBean(I'm sure not EVERYTHING was an actually app).

Personally I would download one of the user text options and edit it using Notepad++. I probably deleted quite a few things you'd like to keep and have kept a few things you want deleted. This way you can take off and keep exactly everything you want. For instance I don't even have Sense anymore....I used the No Sense option and you are wanting a debloated Sense so my script is completely different.

Is it worth it to flash a new rom?

I was thinking about getting the CyanogenMod 10 Rom over the stock factory one, but I'm not sure if its worth it. It would get rid of your apps for the S-Pen, and maybe some other apps that are useful that I am not aware of. Would anyone say it's worth it?

That depends on what YOU want.
In general, it's obviously worth it or the developers wouldn't spend so much time working on it because there would be no interest, and users wouldn't donate their money to the developers for their work.
If you prefer the touchwiz aspects of the device then flash a TW ROM or stay stock.
I switch back and forth.

aosp currently detracts from what this device is capable of...not hating just calling it how i see it. im a fan of beans touchwiz mainly for the themeing because i dont like the look of stock touchwiz. aosp will shine when this device quits recieving carrier updates...until then ill probably keep rockin touchwiz.

This is precisely what I meant by it depends on what you want.
I can live without s pen, it wasn't a selling point for me and I hardly use it. I use multi view more than s pen, and although it's convenient I don't have to have it.
I like the aosp ROMs for the kill app feature, my choice of themes due to the theme engine, and the many on the fly options.
I vote for beans rom. It is themed to look like asop but is still tw so you dont loose anything
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium
Definitely a personal choice that depends a lot on your wants and needs. Even bone stock the note 2 is a great phone...a custom ROM just makes it that much better by adding some features that don't come stock. That said, for your first flash I would ease into it with something TouchWiz based like Beans, Clean, etc. See how much you like/use the touchwiz features and then you can decide if you want to try an AOSP ROM.

Sorry, I am still a newb, but which ROM lets you keep stock roms? And which did you guys say is the best for you and why?
"Best" is going to be hard to answer...they all offer some great stuff (and honestly a lot of the features overlap so there isn't a massive difference between them). The Touchwiz based ROMs include Beans, CleanROM, Eclipse, Tweaked and maybe a couple of others I am forgetting. Those will all maintain the Samsung features (S-pen, multi-window, smart stay, etc). I've run Beans and Clean on the Note and both Eclipse and Tweaked on the Charge. All have great dev support and you probably can't go wrong with any of them. Beans seems to have the biggest following based on the threads and as it is my daily driver I would recommend it.

I think you need to rephrase your first question.
The term best is relative. I I like CleanROM because it's 4.1.2 and built of of the international version.
I like Eclipse due to the black themed Gmail and play store.
I like beans because it's more like stock Verizon.
I like Carbon and Rootbox because they're 4.2.2, have features that we can't have on touchwiz ROMs like those above, but you lose the touchwiz only functions.
Personally, I have found myself drifting more and more towards AOSP. I got this phone a little more than a month ago and rooted it in the first week, mainly because I wanted my choice of apps in the multiwindow. I first went with Scott's CleanRom VZW SE, which is pretty much exactly the same as the stock rom with a few improvements. Then I jumped to the CleanRom ACE, which is based of the international version of the Note 2 (which runs 4.1.2), but is still stock TouchWiz. Then I flashed Beans 10, which as many have said here is TouchWiz with some AOSP theming. For the complete AOSP look, I also chose to get Nova Launcher and Widget Locker. And just today, I downloaded CarbonRom, which is 100% AOSP 4.2.2, and I am about to flash.
I realized that the only TW feature I really use is the popup browser. I don't really use the S Pen or any other features, but I am definitely making a backup in case I end up missing more than I anticipated.
Honestly, the best rom I have used so far is CleanRom ACE. The support is great, and to be honest you probably won't need it, since the stability of this thing is awesome. The only issue I had with it was that group messaging does not work properly. I was just feeling the call of the holo theme, so that's why I left. I do not doubt that I will eventually return to the ACE.
The note2 was my first rom flashing. I went with Beans 10. I have not had the any of the problems I've seen others have. I use the s-pen and like the additional programs in multi-view. Could I have lived without flashing a different rom? Of course but I figured with all the power the note2 has why not try to take full advantage.
Make sure you follow the instructions and I have found most members are willing to help.

Life after Clean ROM

I was disappointed to read about Scott's decision to stop developing his CleanRom. I found it to be a great balance between TW and Google Edition.
I hope someone will take it over. I don't see a clear alternative to CR.
Thoughts?

If you're looking for a fantastic running ROM with the same odex'd stock feel go with synergy and odex it yourself.

Sent from my Galaxy S4 using Tapatalk 2
yeah I'm still on 1.0 cause its the best battery life. I've tried 1.3 and 1.5R2 though not 1.6 or 1.6.5.
1.0 is still my DD. Smooth no lag (though i had no lag on stock) and everything worked with crazy battery life. I have all of the Zips DL so I'll always have the nandroids plus the zips. The battery life i got on 1.0 (.25% drain per hour idle and 6-7 hours on screen time) makes me not need to mess with other roms right now. Unfortunatley i was not getting the same battery life with the other versions of this rom.
Also unfortunate he closed the thread right away as we're unable to thank him for a great ROM. I wish him the best and hope whatever changed in his life is good or if not so good things improve for him. Thanks Scott

Not me, I like CleanRom, I've tried Hyperdrive and really like all it's features but I'm running CynogenMod. Why? Because it works on my phone and NO TouchWiz ROM I've tried does work properly with all my apps and I can't figure it out? Apps that ran just fine on my Galaxy S3 work perfectly on AOSP ROMs on the S4 but will not work on any TouchWiz ROM and I haven't the knowledge, time or inclination to trouble shoot TouchWiz so.... CyanogenMod.
I almost cried when I read that message. After having terrible lag issues with hyperdrive, it looks like synergy will be my next go to rom when the update comes out which I will like because it will have more features than CR did. I don't like anything crazy but some tweaks that scott doesn't offer in his stockish rom will be nice. I am going to miss him very much though. Great guy and great dev.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2
Lmao, I loled when I read this... Good stuff.
I am far from a dev, hell I've barely been using an android device for a month but, devs have such a thankless job/hobby. I am not aware of one that gets money for anything they do (short of "bounties") yet, get ridiculed when something they do may not work for someone.
I appreciate everything, would love to get into doing things like this just have no idea where to start. I wouldn't mind taking a crack at making my own ROM for personal use and if good enough, maybe public. I just have zero experience, lol

Whats a good rom?

Ok so I have a mdk version of this phone and I want to put a solid rom on it what one is the best do you think of the non tw ones? And another stupid question if I flash like dirty unicorn does it lock down the bootloadrr?
There is no right answer to this... the best rom is the one you like the most, so you need to start flashing and finding this out for yourself.
Flashing roms will not lock your bootloader. Only if you take an official update will it do that.
what the above user said is correct, the best ROM depends on the user. However, i have a rooted mdk gs4 and i was using stock for quite a whole and happy with it. after a while tho, the slight lag and other annoyances got to me so i decided to try a rom. I should note that this is my first android device, I am a long time iphone user and jailbreak expert, so i'm not afraid to get my hands dirty. I decided to try Hyperdrive recently and I absoultely love it. its basically a hybrid of touchwiz for gs4 and note 3 with all of the bloated BS crap removed and lots of customization options. it is much faster and solves some of my gripes and was easy to install. I also chose to try it first because it was similar to what i was already on so it was a good first ROM choice in my opinion. it was also super easy to install. I am gonna try CM11 when it gets released to see if I like it, but for now i would recommend you try hyperdrive

Ive had a lot of trouble with AOSP 4.3 ROM's with Bluetooth. On long conversations the BT will cut out and then the phone hot boots after I hang up.

All the aosp roms bring something to the table. The touch wiz roms for this phone are great as well. There are fan boys for all of them.
See what you like.
That said. I can tell you which developers I'd follow. I say this based on user support and rom support, and listening to features requests, and a quality product. or a combination there of. Sbreen94, nitroglycerin33, dubbsy, beanstown106 , Bdogg for DU is starting out right. Andybones is also tops but I haven't seen as much of him lately.
Edit: forgot DaMadOne is is doing nice things on his aokp kang.
With the big aosp custom rom's you have a ton of peer support buy typically @ the mercy of whatever the larger team is working on in terms of bug fixes etc...
I have less experience with sacs so can't say there.

I do not know what that would do.... Do not understand it much but im open to hear why and what it would do for users
The main thing on the stock that i do not like is the note about checking battery cover
Basically it's as if you took a new phone and just rooted it. Some people may actually find it necessary to reflash a rom to their phone and why not flash a stock rom prerooted?
Okay i understand now, thats not a bad idea at all
I'll take it!!
i would love a proper stock+rooted rom. your twi5ted lollipop has been the only rom that's been super fast compared to the rest of the roms.
I'd love a "mostly stock" ROM: rooted and with performance tweaks only, then leaving all apps and interface stock. Some extra "essential" apps would be great too (AdAway, TiBu, Viper, Greenify, etc.) Although these could always be installed later too...
Thanks,
Luis
