[Q] Where are the TAR files? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

I know this may seem obvious to some, but I promise I'm not a noob trying to ask a stupid question. Maybe I'm just missing something.
I need the to Odin MI5 stock. I'm having USB mounting issues in recovery, so flashing is an issue. I looked at the some of the posts on this USB mount issue, but they haven't helped me. Tried flashing in TWRP and CWM with no success, so I'm going to Odin a stock rom and try to go from there.
But when I go to the XDA file serve section for tar files, I just see zip files with an MD5 counterpart.
http://server03.xdafileserver.nl/index.php?dir=JellybombDomination/SPRINT+GALAXY+NOTE+3
I've always wanted a way to convert zip to tar with like 7-zip or something, but I know you can't simply convert the file- it won't Odin right. But I need the tar files and these are zips.
Again, I'm sure it's obvious to some- I'm sure I'm missing something and don't want to ask a stupid question, too many of those get posted.
But...any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Use this then flash MI5 zip. I understand you're looking for tar files but if you're simply looking to run the MI5 build this is an option...I realize u said flashing is an issue but it's possible after using odin to flash mi3 it might solve your usb dilemma.

[Q] Is there a way to convert a package from Odin to CWM format?

After seeing the report of the SG2 getting bricked while flashing a ROM by Odin, I would like to know if there is a way to convert packages from Odin format (the .tar file) to a package that CWM will do? (the .zip format)
And if it's just changing it from .tar to .zip... then super! But, I'm fairly certain that ain't the case!
Thanks to all the devs giving us some great products. Just want to avoid Odin whenever I can!
Ross
I dont *think* so, then again i could be wrong. You can find roms that developers made that are cwm, and you can just flash those. As far as going back to stock or anything, you are pretty much stuck dealing with odin, its honestly not that bad. If it scares you that much id recommend investing in a USB jig, its about 5$ and well worth it imo, for those scary times when download mode will not kick in or something.
I do have one at the ready! No problems with Odin so far, but, that report just made me fear for that one in a "million?" chance!
Currently trying to figure out whether I like Criskelo or Litening more. (and then VillianROM is calling to me!)
Their isn't bud....can you not get into download mode at all??
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
I think you can just rename the .tar file to .zip and extract that what's inside and then flash that via cwm.
hrmmm
So that is the 64 dollar (or in the case of this phone 650 dollar) question. If that is actually how easy it is, great! But, if I were to try, and then it were to brick is so that even the jig didn't work... d'oh!
Anyone confirm, that is all that is required?

No and as the poster has 9 posts and only thinks ,I for one would not try .
Plus a custom rom will usually have a script in it and will have different files to a standard firmware that has a boot file as a starter .
Odin failure rate about 1/4% total failure almost nil .But that as CWM rises considerably if user does not follow the instructions .

A bit off topic, but im looking for something similar. I was wondering if there is any overclocking kernel in zip format so i can flash it through CWM.
Kernels can be flashed via CWM .
jje
CWM.. directions to the T. And Odin the same!
Thanks much.

So even tho the kernel is in. Tar? I thought it had to be in. Zip or a zimage for CWM to work

Kernels can be flashed via CWM .Yes kernel it is zimage not a tar .
Extract kernel from the tar if its in a tar .

This is odd? No option to flash kernel anymore in tom manager

Modem push through Heimdall

Hello,
I've tried before, and was unsuccessful. I am on a small regional carrier and when flashing MIUI, my 3g or 1x data connection does not work and reception is very very poor due to being on a verizon radio. I have accuired my carreirs ODIN files, but running linux I use Heimdall. However, I've extracted the files and have the modem.bin file. When I flash this over my MIUI ROM, and try to reboot, I get some wiered error where MIUI wont even boot up. I don't remember the error and am at work currently(which is the reason for the spelling errors also, sorry).
My proccess is:
1. Install MIUI from stock
2. Boot and install Glitch V12
3. Flash new modem.bin through Heimdall using Atlas 2.2.1 pit file(a pit file is required correct?)
Am I doing something wrong? Is the correct way
1. Flash Phone to stock with carriers radio
2. Install MIUI
3. Yada Yada
Everything works currently but data, I have to connect to WIFI. Any suggestions for me?
I'm not positive because i'm on Verizon and have never had to do this but I believe using the pit file when you flash the modem is your problem..try doing everything you said in the same order but when it comes to the part about flashing the modem do not use the pit file that is used only when you repartition, so no needed for that
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Correct me if I'm wrong(probably am), but don't you have to populate the .pit file portion in order for odin to flash?
Sent me alink to the modem.bin i will prepare a cwm flashable zip for you.
That would be awsome demetris, it'll be about 2 hours before I will be able to do that as I am currently at work. I'll post it up here soon. Thank you

nope you don't have to populate the pit section to flash..you just need to use the pda button only, (never the phone button) if you were using an official VZW rom.tar and you wanted to repartition, then you would use the pit section but unless your repartitioning, it's not a requirement for Odin to flash, and would actually cause problems using a pit file with out an official VZW.tar...which is why I think you were having the issues trying to flash a modem with a pit file.
Edit: i'm sorry I just realized the instructions I just gave were for Odin and you're using heimdal...or wait...are you using Odin or heimdal?? I would wait for the previous posters cwm zip, because i'm unsure of heimdal's exact instructions, unless you are using Odin? but I still think your problems stems from using the pit with the modem
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I am using Heimdall, and now that I am at my laptop, you do have to load a .pit file in order to add a partion portion(such as a modem) here is the modem.bin file demetris. I really appreciate the .zip file man! I'm hoping this helps me. Now I just need to find a way to push my carriers prl file to my phone so it stops pushing to verizon update.
Demetris, if you know how to make a .zip for a prl file, here is the .prl for my also.
I owe you one for this,
Thanks everyone!
What fascinate you got there, it seems modem is bigger than galaxy s family,
i think is the verizon cdma and i need to know where that modem lies in the partition.
Anyway i made one with the stantard bml12 partition that all galaxy s modems are i hope is the same on cdma
Here it is:
http://www.multiupload.com/AL7IBCDKMB
Flash it with CWM.
If you need an odin one just ask
I've got the version version of the fascinate. I500. I'll give this zip a try. Thanks again

[Q] Fascinate will NOT unbrick (can't flash, can't wipe data, etc)

I have tried to read as many posts on this topic as possible, and I haven't found a proper solution. I've found a few threads where the issue was apparently fixed but they never bothered posting how they did it. If there is a thread that addresses and fixes this issue, my apologies and please redirect me.
First off, I've had my phone rooted since February and it has been working fine. I forget exactly what I rooted with but I have the super user app icon. Last week my Fascinate crashed and re-booted into startup wizard, and all my apps were erased, and I kept getting the force close error boxes. I dont know exactly what caused this but think I might have erased super user when I was going through and deleting apps to free up space. When I reboot everything erases and I go into the start up wizard. My internal memory is 0 and I cannot download any apps. I tried to do factory reset but the data could not be wiped. I tried flashing with odin all the possible .tar packages out there and they all get stuck on the movinand.bin file and fails. I've tried flashing in heimdall but couldnt get it to reboot at all. I've booted into cwm, and every time I try to factory reset/wipe data i get the "error mounting data!" message. I know there's definitely a memory problem and a data problem that has been consistent, and everything I've tried can't get around it.
My current temporary fix has been installing the cyanogen mod, which allows me to use the basic phone functions without the force close boxes. I still have the memory issue and cannot receive text messages, and my network settings are deleted when I reboot. Again, I've read quite a bit of threads on this topic and there seems to be a consensus that I might need the original.mbr and stock.zip files, which I tried downloading from that link everyone posts and they dont work. CWM says the .zip file is bad. Also, the link is like 2 years old as well as most of the threads on this topic, and I havent found anything recent. I've also read about using adb shell to address the issue in the HOW TO guide, and it seems i really need those files. Sorry this was long, I just want to make sure I'm not repeating something that has already been addressed and fixed. Please help. Thanks.

Is your sdcard broke? Try another if you have...
Use this guide! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17050028 you'd want section 2....Use Odin and follow the directions to a tee. You want to restore...so use how to flash eh03
DROID DOES, Apple did...like I forgot when
I don't think my sd card is broken, as I can still save files and music to it. That is how I was able to install cyanogen mod - I did it through clockwork recovery and then install from .zip. Could there still be something wrong with it?
Also, are you absolutely sure I'll be able to flash the eh03 in Odin without it getting stuck on "movinand.bin" ? Every .tar file I've tried so far has had that happen.

when using Odin, try different USB port, different USB cable, be sure battery is out..
Also, are you using Odin to flash a stock tar? you should be, and if so are you using the v2.2 pit with the repartition box checked?

I've used all my USB ports and 2 different cables, including the one that came with my phone
Here are all the files I've tried:
CI500_VZW_ED05_FROYO_REL.tar
CI500_VZW_EH03_GB_CM.tar
eh03_full_odin.tar
DI01package3.tar
stock_kernel.tar
I'm also using atlas_v2.2.pit
All of the .tar files get stuck at movinand.bin for about half an hour then it fails. I've tried checking and unchecking the re-partition box with the same result.
Pixelation also recommended the droidstyle guide, I was just afraid of running into the same issue with the movinand.bin file. I've found numerous other threads about people having this same problem and never found a clear solution. I think one person was able to get it fixed with help from adrynalyne, but it was through IRC, so it was never posted in the thread. Any other ideas on what I should try?
Cloyne venlyt
Update: Trying Section 2 of droidstyle's guide. Currently stuck at 99% on movinand.bin, trying to flash the PowerWashed 2.3.4 eh09 rom
ahhhhh!!!! Why, God?
I really don't know. Besides glitched usb drivers on the computer.. Did you try setting up drivers for the fascinate on another pc yet? There is always unbrickable mod if no other fix works

I've tried it on another computer and it still hangs on movinand.bin. It's definitely not a computer issue, since I rooted the phone in February just fine. I think something must have happened when I accidentally deleted the superuser app last week. The only files that I've been able to flash successfully are atlas_v2.2, cwm4-bml-i500, and cwm3_voodoo.tar. Then from clockwork I can install cyanogen from the sd card so I sort of have a working phone. What's the unbrickable mod?

Well, first you don't flash the atlasv2.2pit. that file is a partition map. It repartitions the phone when combined with a factory image. when doing so you need to have the repartition box checked.
The unbrickable mod by adam outler is a hardware mod that allows you to recover from a brick. Google it.

As some possible help, Have you tried sixstringsg one click. Not sure if it re-partitions but here's the link! EH03 Heimdall One-Click
Also you say the tar's are failing at 99%, have you tried flashing them individually? IE: extract the tar and use the following!
Code:
heimdall flash --repartition --pit atlas_v2.2.2.pit --factoryfs factoryfs.rfs --cache cache.rfs --dbdata dbdata.rfs --primary-boot boot.bin --secondary-boot Sbl.bin --param param.lfs --kernel zImage --modem modem.bin --recovery recovery.bin

Oops sorry, I didnt actually flash the atlas.pit file. I meant the only files I got to PASS in Odin were the ones mentioned. The unbrickable mod looks way to complicated, and I dont feel comfortable taking apart my phone and soldering it.
What do you know about unbricking via adb? I just installed it yesterday so I dont know all the shell commands. If my phone can't wipe or mount data, i cant get past this damn movinand.bin in odin, and my internal memory is zero - is there a folder i need to go in and delete in adb that is preventing me from flashing in odin? Can't I just delete all data so I'm free to flash anything? It seems like something is still present in my phone to be showing 0 internal memory and not letting me wipe data that needs to be removed.

The unbrickable mod you mentioned requires that I need to take the phone apart and solder the hardware, is that correct? If that's the case, then I'll go ahead and cross that out as a possible solution.

I seriously doubt that all this was caused by deleting Superuser. You likely have a corrupt filesystem. Have a look at this thread:

[Q] Flashing a .zip through Odin?

So I've done some flashing in my time, but mostly through cwm and i wanted to experiment with ODIN flasher sense it seems more efficient and faster. But I ran into my first problem. How the hell do you flash a .zip file?
I've done a little reading and found that you have to extract the zip, and make it into a .md5 file somehow. How do i do this? I havn't been able to find a good guide anywhere, and some help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
What are you trying to flash from the zip? A kernel?

No. That's not quite true. The actual structure of a ClockworkMod Flashable zip file and an Odin flashable tar file are somewhat different.
There are tuturials around about how to build an Odin flashable tar file (or tar.md5).
Or, just use Odin when the developer provides an Odin flashable tar of his distribution.
Now, Mobile Odin is a completely different thing. It reads a variety of types of files, but it actually uses something similar to ClockworkMod Recovery to flash them.

[Q] Vibrant troubles. Is there hope?

So here's what happened. I installed the kj6 cf root kernel then tried to install slimrom 4.2.2 build 8. I got stuck on semaphore logo, converted back to stock jfd with odin and now i'm stuck on the vibrant logo bootloop. My internal (i assume internal, may be external sd) storage is formatted horribly wrong as well because cwr keeps giving me errors about it and any rom I try to install fails or softbricks me. I've scoured the intered trying to figure out how to fix it but I can't. Please tell me this is fixable

There is hope. I can link all the files to you later because I'm busy now, but I can tell you the way. I'm assuming you already have Odin and all the stock .pda and .tar files. So first flash the .pit and .tar and then flash the .pit and a file called dbdata which should be everywhere if you look for it. The dbdata file should mount your system and fix that problem. Also make sure you have re-format checked. If I remember right just playing around with those helped me with the same problem. I think the dbdata didn't work the first few tries then I tried something else and it worked. Let me know how it goes and I'll try to help you from there
Thank you.I did the pit and tar but didn't know about dbdata. Not sure if this helps or hinders but I have a 959v and it seems like its a 4gs istead of a vibrant. I thought they were the same but I see a separate forum for it. Ill check out posts there but if what you suggests works I'll be very appreciatve

Haha well if you don't have a vibrant you might want to make sure you have the correct .pit and .tar first. That's why is soft-bricked
That probably would explain my problem. I did just find that out yesterday, after I bricked it. I assumed the tar was for a variety of models since the file name included a couple letters that I thought might be different models . I'm guessing the pit is only for the vibrant. I'll head over to the s4g forum and see what I can find
