So, I'm a little confused about the bootloader situation. My tab is locked, and not rooted yet. To root, I flash CWM using Odin, then flash the root files in CWM, correct? And can I still flash roms, kernels, and themes with the locked bootloader?
yes thats correct !
when you flash the ROM you'll lose root but you just have to follow the little Odin + CWM process again to get root back [because the ROMs are not pre rooted (yet)]
So flash CWM, root, flash rom, flash CWM, root again?

Hmm, let me see if I can decipher this message.
-You have unlocked
-Hopefully Rooted
-Installed CWM Recovery
-Somehow managed to install CM9 but don't know how to flash another rom? (you dont want to flash 'overtop' you want to wipe clean)
And what you want to do is install a rom that is similar to stock .15?
Virtuous Rom S series is fairly stock http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1511839
So is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1518462
(infact its called .15 stock for unlocked bootloaders).
Put one of those roms on your internal sdcard.
Boot into CWM
Wipe your CyanogenMod 9 (Wipe data/ factory reset)
Flash the other rom.
I'd suggest you do more research before you do this stuff. I am scared for you.
Have a nice day
At the moment, I don't believe that it can be done. Unless someone creates an update.zip.
haha very funny, im actually pretty good with this stuff. ive been roming for some time now. However someone said on the forum for the .15 for unlocked bootloaders that in order to flash to that rom from cyanmod9 that id need to flash a blob file

Nope. Just Wipe CM9 and install the new rom..
The issue is this:
Currently on the Prime, CWM does not backup/restore the kernel.
What does this mean!?
Well if you were running Rom A with Kernel A, and you tried out Rom B with kernel B
And you now want to RESTORE your Nandroid of Rom A, you must do the following:
1) Data Wipe/Factory Reset ROM B (CM9)
2)Restore Nandroid of Rom A
3)Flash Rom A over top of the Nandroid
Step 2 and 3 can be done in any order. (Flashing the rom installs the kernel, but nandroid does not)
Hi!
I updated to 4.1.B.0.587 and tried rooting but it's impossible. The only method I found involved flashing an older kernel from other phone model, but all except one can't be flashed because Flashtool pops an error. The ST18i kernel is the one that can be flashed, but on restart it gives a black screen. The only way to get out from there is to flash back the original 4.1.B.0.587 firmware for my phone.
Any idea what to do there?
If not, I'm aware you can unlock the bootloader and install whatever you want. I understand the bootloader unlocking part (and I have "Boot loader unlocked allow: yes"), but then how do I root exactly? I see threads here where you can install a custom (already rooted) kernel, but I'd like to root the stock kernel/firmware. I need CWM I believe. Can someone post the steps how to do this?
Thanks
Btw, I have the America variation, wt19a. Does that change anything?
You can unlock bootloader and flash a custom pre-rooted kernel and that's the only way you can get root without downgrading your phone. There is a extended stock kernel in dev section which is just a rooted, CWM installed stock kernel. You can try that after unlocking your bootloader. It's always better to use a custom prerooted kernel because by installing it the root and CWM is permanent but if you downgrade, root and install CWM via x-parts, it is only temporary and you can easily lose the root by flashing some mods itself.

Thanks, I just got stock root with .587 with this guide. I didn't look into it at first because it was meant for .431 (this thread has it the same). But it works like a peach. I used Xperia-ROOT.rev4 and made a "factory reset" after the process. Ended up with a fresh .587 rooted, Superuser app survived the reset. Installed SuperSU from market and deleted the Superuser apk from /system/app. Everything looks good and feels fine.
If anyone sees this, forget downgrading if you have a LWW, use that guide.
Btw, the ghost of GB haunts me... my last phone was a Galaxy Note and I had to go back to GB, wipe and then install an ICS rom (because of the eMMC bug). Now I get a LWW and the only way to root is falling back to GB, root and install ICS. **** :silly:
Hello All
i recently rooted my Z2 by downgrade method, thinking about moving to CM12 or PA as soon a stable build is released but have some doubts in that area.
1- if i make a nadroid backup through the dual recovery i have now and later after unlocking the bootloader and flashing a differnet recovery and ROM if i restore the old backup will my bootloader be locked automatically?
2- can i use my dual recovery to install a CM ROM( after a clean wipe of current system of course)?
3- i have read about people having problems after installing recovery after flashing a CM ROM, and i havnt really found a coherent answer for that in all the forums that i follow. can anyone give a proper method of how to flash a recovery after the ROM so that i can restore my backup just in case?
4- if my nandroid backup does not relock my bootloader than does restoring my TA backup relocks it?
5- if after flashing a CM or AOSP Rom i try flashing a stock based ROM like existenz or MoonWalker can i restore my TA Backup on dat? will that in anyway affect the root capability of my device? will this relock the bootloader?
Sorry for a list of questions. have only worked with locked bootloader till now and not really handy with sony devices. have only been few months since i got it.
Can someone please remove this thread, by mistake forgot to give a name for this, creating a new thread for same.
Hi,
I flashed a rom and several other files to update my xperia Z2 to the latest stock version (575). However, I didn't realize that my phone had the bootloader locked and I mistakenly flashed a custom kernel (abricot kernel). Now, my phone won't boot. When I press the switch it vibrates and does nothing. I am guessing it's because of the kernel.
Now, the "hopeful" news is that I can access fastboot mode, therefore I was considering two options:
1) flash the stock kernel image (however, I don't know where to get it from)
2) unlock the bootloader (I need to find out how to do it).
Do any of you know where to get the stock kernel from?
I'm open to any other third option you may think could help me unbrick my phone.
Thanks in advance
What about flash again stock firmware with Flashtool, but mark options Wipe data and cache?
>>Flash the same .575 stock ftf without wiping the data through flashtool.
>>Everything will be okay.
