Hey All,
I used the Cyanogenmod Installer on my SGH-1717 everything went smoothly between the PC and Android App. I had some random restarts but nothing too bad. it was running pretty well when I took a screen shot and the next thing I know it reboots but it doesn't come out of it.
I'm not quite sure if it's a hard reboot or just soft because the screen never came back on. it's just a cycle of very quick very soft vibrations. my guess is it's power cycling. it does shows the Samsung logo if I take the battery out but it will show the logo once and then goes back to the cycling.
I can get it to boot into download mode but only for a second before the bootloop starts up again. Tried getting to recovery (volume up + power, volume up + volume down + power, and combinations of the home button in there too.) but so far no luck.
I believe the rom the Installer automatically chose was 10.1-20131101-snapshot-quincyatt. even tho I don't see that on the list it's what I remember my phone saying.
I'm trying to hook it up to my PC to reflash or restore but it's not registering. I've read the I maybe able to use a script in ADB to stop the bootloop and work it from there but I haven't had the chance to try and that's a little beyond my knowledge so I'm reading up on it.
Is this a legitimate bootloop or something worse?
any help would be greatly appreciated!
ok so after more research I'm thinking it's not a boot loop but just a stuck power button. I've taken the back off the phone and used a cotton swab with rubbing alcohol to try and clean it but still no luck. any other ideas?

Thanks for the reply! My phone is back and running great it was a stuck power button after all. After trying to be gentle and clean it with rubbing alcohol it took some tapping from a screwdriver to get it working again. thanks for the help tho!

gingerbread, ah finally, i start installing it on the PC, go to undo the super charger.
well, i didn't get that far. I got stumbled at *clicks power button, holds power button, begs power button to do something*
*rips battery out, puts back in, holds power button*, resultless
*puts charger in tries to start phone up, once with battery, once without*, resultless
*writes down time of death 4:00pm threw 7:00pm based on last call*
*starts crying, throws phone at wall* - > this is what i will do if i get an answer saying i'm stuck
MY DROID X2 IS DEAD(i think). well that's dandy
I ROOTED MY PHONE 2 days ago for bloatfreezer.
(i froze safe stuff like my Verizon and whatnot)
problem = IT'S ROOTED AND UNABLE TO TURN ON - > i know this sometimes voids warranty
{the green light comes on when charging, i just literally can't turn the phone on}
can i really just return it like this and demand a new one, -or if there's a fix-?
I'm extremely grateful to any advice/knowledge on what to do
Try powering up while holding the volume down button. Try it with the charger plugged in and without. If Fastboot appears at the top keep pressing volume down until you get to android recovery and press volume up to select it and try factory resetting. If it works you'll lose your data but at least you'll have a phone.

Have you tried to SBF your phone? You might still be able to get it to connect to RSD.

Yea try that first ^^^
Whole post doesn't make alot of sense you tried to install gingerbread from your computer?

dead5hea i figured that wouldn't work at first, as when i plugged it into the charger it kept rebooting to the eye and then freezing even when i had the volume button down, but on vaguely the 20'th attempt it responded to it, i did a recovery and now everything is dandy *excluding the apps are gone but at least the contacts are on gmail*. I wondered if it was out of juice but it was 70% on recovery so who knows, i hope it doesn't happen again.
thanks bud =)
-not to be rude(kinda is anyway) thanks for nothing lancer, take a guess before a bump, i put the top in green and then the problem in caps to express that it was extra detail.
My friend at school came to me with his dad's white galaxy s from vzw and said it wasn't working right. I took a look at it and it was on but not recognizing any movement from my fingers. It wouldn't swipe to unlock and when I tried to turn it off it wouldn't let me pick anything either.
I pulled the battery and when I hit the power nothing happened. Screen stayed off and only the buttons lit up. I've seen this happen with my dinc so I pulled the battery again and tried again with different combinations of holding the volume up/down and the power button. But still nothing.
I'm not really sure what to do with it, I'm more familiar with my htc phone so I came here for help. I don't think it's bricked since it was on when I first looked at it and now it won't boot to the os.
Let me know if you guys can help point me in the right direction, thanks.
Plug it into a wall charger, pull the battery and hold volume down for a moment, you should see a yellow triangle and a construction worker Android and it should say download, or download mode...if it does the phone is not bricked, but it may be in need of an update..you can try putting the battery in and holding up, down and power until you see the Samsung logo flash then release the power button but continue to hold volume up, and down...this will get you to the stock Android recovery screen..if the phone goes into download mode, and will boot into recovery, it can definitely be fixed.

If it does go into download mode then you'll need to flash it back to stock using Odin.

I just tried all your suggestions and nothing happens. Only the home/option/back/search buttons light up. I'm just going to give it back to him, thanks for the help guys.
Don't flash anything in case he has insurance or warranty on the sucker.

Hey guys, I think I've bricked my Touchpad beyond repair. I purchased it off Craigslist because I couldn't get one in the store, so there is no receipt and no hope of a warranty claim. Here's what I did:
I put it in developer mode and installed PreWare. I installed Chroid and played with that. When CM7 became available I installed that. Everything was running fine....so good that I decided to uninstall Chroid since I had a (nearly) fully functional Android build on my device. After the unistall, the device booted to a black screen with and triangle that had an exclamation point in the middle. I downloaded WebOS Doctor hoping to restore it but the device was not in USB mode. I powered it off holding home and power but it immediatly rebooted to the same screen. I tried it again and immediately held power and volume down when it powered off and again, it took me to the same screen. After about the 3rd/4th attempt, it powered off but powered on no more. I cannot power it on by hold power, power + volume down, power + home....anything.
I have a small bit of hope. When I plug it into my computer, the computer makes a noise which tells me that it sees the device however it doesn't install any drivers or show that it's installed as USB. WebOS Doctor does not see my device.
I've Googled and not found anyone restoring a device like this at this state but maybe, just maybe, it can be. Please help if you can! Thanks!
FYI - The battery was about 75-80% charged at the time of the bricking.

I just got it back into the triangle/exclamation screen again. I'm afraid to power it back off. Any way to force boot into USB mode?

Tried WebOS Doctor again and it saw my device. I may be ok. At 12% now.

...I'm good. Wife says I don't have to sleep on the couch now!
Man, I paniced. I've modded a lot of devices but never had one completely die beyond powering it on (unless it has a removable battery).
Lol. Maybe you should have just trouble shot before you posted.
I be Tap'n that
It's Power + Volume Up for USB mode... not sure if that's a typo or you had the wrong key
Either way, good job getting it working lol.

There seems to be a built in emergency shut off. Hold the power button, volume up and press the center button ten times. The tablet will go into a powered off state. That from hp website. Holding the three together for 10 seconds seems to do the same. I have used both to recover from orange exclamation, cm7 issues, lost mmboot, clockwork.....

Thanks for the info guys. I was pressing vol up and power (typo). It's nice to know alternate recovery methods as I do not plan to stop modding this device. I immediately reinstalled CM7 after recovering...lol.

even if you don't have a receipt, all touchpads are still under warranty, they have not been out long enough to be out. of course if your touchpad is obviously bricked due to something you did, they might figure it out. (of course, that's easily cured by connecting the headphone Jack to the chases of an old cry monitor, and the USB port to the flyback. I can all but guarentee, they wont be able to.figure out what OS was on it. yea,its shady, but considering their excuse of the day from laptops is "water damage" ,even when you have a obviously defective screen,I think they have it coming,of course I fully expect them towards try to weasle out of any legitimate warranty claims on the touchpad anyway.)

Thanks for this! This helped me out a lot! Mine had a bit of trouble turning back on, so I held power, volume up, and center for 10-15 seconds and it turned back on. YMMV I guess.
My phone boots up for 5 seconds to the samsung screen and then it shuts off. I can not get into recovery. I tried going into download mode, but when it enters download mode approx 5 sec and then it shuts off not enough time for odin to run. My battery is fully charge. What should I do?:crying:
Does it vibrate and restart as well?
Could possibly be the power button is stuck. Happens sometimes.
And since it Powers up ... It is not bricked.

Stuck power button. . . or flashed an incomplete Rom from a bad download. . .just guessing because you didn't say what you did that led up to this.
How about a little insight on events leading up to the issue.

Last night i flashed Xylon 2.5 unOfficial Rom for quincyatt from ManelScott4Life off his site and then i flashed the recent 4Ace kernel and it was working perfectly for I used it for a couple hour before going to sleep. As I was listening to music on the way to school. It shut off and until now i need to take battery out n put back in order for it to boot for 5 seconds n shuts off again
Odd....But I still would not rule out a stuck button.
If you have a good backup that you can restore, you might could try a wipe and reflash of that backup.
The real test will be if you can boot into your recovery and it stays there. If it does not, then the problem leans toward a button issue again.
And of course, the battery could also be causing trouble. We have had failed batteries act the same as you describe. If you have a spare, try it. If not, plug the device into AC power and attempt the boot into recovery.
Either way, if the phone stays in recovery, you have a battery issue, or corrupted rom...g

Same Problem
I have a question. I have the same exact problem as the OP. However in my case I dont know what happened to the phone as someone just gave it to me since it didnt work and I have a Note they figured I could use it for parts. That aside At first i tried everything and no go. But today i was able to put it into download mode and like 5 seconds into it it shuts off. My main question is how do you know if the button is stuck 1. 2. How do you fix that?
Edit: well i opened my phone up and cleaned out the button and rubber thing and it did the trick! You guys are my heroes!!!
Glad we could help
Great you got it fixed. Enjoy.

How did you clean out your button? I have the EXACT same symptoms, but my rubber buttons in the case, and white power button appears to be clean. I can hear the button itself make contact. I can't get to recovery mode, but I can hit download mode for 5 seconds.
leaving the casing of the phone removed, I have the same exact symptoms so it Has to be the button itself... *shrug
the button gets stuck even when you still hear/feel it clicking. open the phone and blast it with duster. Press and depress the button rapidly many times till it frees internally

I have no idea if this will work for anyone else or if it's just a fluke for my setup.
My recovery is twrp 2.5.0.2. Obviously I'm mdk.
When I get stuck @ the Samsung screen, I can hold volume up, power and home and it will get the rom to boot. Regardless of whether it's a touch wiz or aosp rom. 4.3 same result.
To be clear, in order I hold the volume up, then power, then home.
Only have to hold for a second or two.
The screen will go black, I let go of the buttons as soon as I see it black then my boot logo comes on and I'm good. Have done this @ least 20 times. Works every time. Now I've not tried this after a rom flash fail. It's for a rom I am already running and for whatever reason the phone hangs @ that Samsung logo. Usually after I screw with something.
Your mileage may vary.
Heck what's the worse that happens? You have to do the battery pull anyways? Then your not out anything.
But hopefully this works for someone else too.
Damn convenient not to have to pull the battery and get the phone out of my case.
Again could just be a fluke for my setup. I don't care though. It's a nice work around for me to keep from pulling that battery.
Hopefully this is a help to someone and saves you some work.
Happy flashing.

Your absolutely right this way better than pulling the battery. Just so you know, you only need to hold menu + the power button, vol isn't needed. Good advice though.
