Hi brothers
will, I'm having problem with the apktool, when i want to compile an edited apk i got so many errors I don't know why!!
first let's take a look at decompiling

anyway .. i signed it with this code

it was good but when i install it in my note 3 .. it says: do you want to update the app?!!

now how can i install 2 or 3 from the same app

Ok I haven't a clue what ur trying to do..lol.....but it is really good practice to decompile and then compile without making any edits....Have you tried that? This gives you an idea of what kinda he'll you may be in for..lol. Lots of apks give off warnings. You are usually good as long as there are no errors.

You need to edit android label in the manifest.
And the string names in strings.xml

I install the second hotspot shield vpn (which i've done) but it keeps force closing

Do you get the exact same string errors if you rebuild it with no changes?
They will let it build for sure as it's just a string warning.
However I have seen apps fc because they are checking a specific string.
Though you could also pull a log cat of the crash and check the actual crash errors also.

Roll back to Smali and Backsmali 2.0. The beta has newer revs that crash at times (should be the October build).

Invalid package identifier.
It doesn't appear to be an issue with apktool
It appears to be a coding problem.
Android resource id always has a package identifier.
Possible issue is two apps with the same id.
Must edit manifest and strings.

[Q] Help re decompiling/recompiling

Will someone please help me to figure this out
i have jdk6, android sdk installed, my path is set up correctly and im using wanams apk manager
im running all this from root of c drive
I want to Set Logs type to "View by All Call Logs" - Hide SMS from Call Logs
i have decompiled, made the changes and it recompiles perfect
i drop it into my rom, perform a wipe and flash - my contacts then fc's on me...i just cant figure out why...

If it helps you, you can install S Voice and disable the double click from the settings of the app. That just decreased my home button time significantly.

Thanks but thats not what im after
im building a rom - i can mod/decompile/recompile .jar files perfect, i know how to set a rom up blah blah blah - i just cant decompile ANY apks without an error or the relevant app fc'ing on me when flashed
The only things i have on my pc are the android sdk, the jdk, a firmware, some mods and multiple apk editing software - i have re-flashed windows and everything else around 20 times. i have followed 19 different tutorials, downloaded 13 different packages that people say will allow me to do what i want but they dont
i know i have the relevant programs installed correctly, and i know my path is correct (otherwise apk manager wouldnt pick java up and wont work)
I just wanted to know what all the people on this forum are using as they are bringing ou mods and roms every day...not everyone uses linux
i have some background knowledge in android and know how to read smali/xml files, i know how to make the mods and where the mods needs to go....i just cannot get the decompiling/recompiling sorted at all....this has taken me months to get this sorted

I'm in the same position. I have JD for Eclipse installed and such, but I can't get APK's to recompile at all. I get the exact same errors.

Nobody around here is going to hold your hand and help you out with an attitude like that.

1. Use APKTool directly instead of wrappers. You learn more this way, I promise.
2. You need a newer aapt.exe in your PATH. Grab the Windows platform-tools from here: http://www.hariadi.org/android/manually-download-of-android-sdk-tools-and-sdk-platform-tools/, take the aapt.exe and place it in a folder that's in your %PATH% (or install the Android SDK)
3. APKTool ships with an older framework-res. Grab /system/framework/framework-res.apk (and optionally twframework-res.apk) and run "apktool if framework-res.apk"
(I haven't read your post fully so there may be something I missed, but the above should get you started)

Ive got all that sorted, using apktool returns errors also...so im not sure
As i mentioned i can de/recompile .jar files no problem...and some 'normal' system apks work fine...its only the important ones that i want to mod that are causing issues

Could you give me a log of what happens when you use APKTool directly, please? To decompile android.policy.jar I have to use this version (I don't recommend using it for everything as it doesn't format the resources' XML correctly - but it's fine for making edits with) or I get a "bad magic value" error

Like I said in my previous post, you need to have aapt.exe in a folder that's in your path

[Q] Decompile SystemUI

I am using apktool to make some edits. I am running into errors when recompiling my SystemUI. At this point I am just decompiling then recompiling to see if I can get it to do it. I am on the most recent sdk and thus also the newest aapt. (that for 4.2.2). I also updated my apktool and smali/baksmali (although my previous package worked flawlessly with 4.2.2 on my nexus 7). I am loading my framework-res to system with the "if" command, even tried loading twframework-res there too. I am at a total loss as to what my issue is. How are you devs making edits and recompiling your SystemUI?

@scrosler not sure if you missed it, got that log posted for you. Thanks for looking into it for me

I'm having similar issues with SystemUI. Same errors (building on Linux), but it builds the APK. However, once I push the APK to /system/app, reboot into recovery and fix permissions, I lose the status bar completely.
I can post a logcat later this evening.

Change/Increase smsToMmsTextThreshold on Redmi Note 4x

I mainly use my phone to send long messages (SMS around 4,800 characters long (30 messages)) to my colleagues. Unfortunately, my Redmi Note 4x only allow up to 8 messages long before converting the SMS to MMS.
Using 3rd party app allows to send these messages without converting to MMS. But I don't want to use other apps as this consume resources.
Decompiling and editing string on mms_config.xml of the Mms.aok cannot be done as there are errors shown when I tried to recompile it.

Unable to build a working modded framework-res.apk

Hi guys. So i decided to mod the oxygen os framework-res.apk of oneplus3t to add pixel blue color. But after building and copying it to the phone it causes a bootloop. Can anyone point out what am i doing wrong or missing.

You can't resign it. You have to copy the original meta folder and androidmanifest.xml into the apk file. I use winrar and I have it set up to open apks by default, so all I have to do is open the apk and add the two files from the originals folder. You could also rename .apk to .zip and extract it, then copy the files from the originals folder and then rezip it and rename it back to .apk if you use 7zip. This also means that modifying the androidmanifest.xml is out of the question.
