[Q] Make permanent app even after flashing new ROM.(system app) - Micromax A116

I want to know how you can make an app permanent ie; it should not be uninstalled by anyone. I have searched the forums and found that most of the people are suggesting to move the .apk file to /system/app folder using a root explorer. But my doubt is whether it will still remain there (as a system app) even after flashing a new ROM.
This will be really useful in case of security/anti-theft apps. Even if the thief factory resets and flashes a new ROM, the security app will still be there in your phone..
Can this be done, guys?

Short answer: No
If you format both /data and /system all apps are gone for good.

Not possible bro.Generally All roms first formats your system and data partition before flashing theirselves.

Factory reset after root?

My software on my droid x2 isn't doing good. From what I have seen something will happen in the background that causes all my system apps to restart, only they never finish restarting which begins to devour my memory and eventually leads to my phone freezing up. Also the ringtones like to change randomly to default (alarms set in third party apps too).
I was hoping rooting and getting rid of bloatware would solve this problem but it is still persisting. I thought I could restore backed up system apps with Titanium Backup so I was removing the apps. I'll leave them "restoring" for 45 minutes with no luck (I tried both just restoring the app and restoring both apps and data). So apparently it doesn't work like that.
My question is if I do a factory reset with my phone in its current condition, will I have an issue?
If u diddnt freeze the apps then you might. Did u back them up before u removed them?
Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
Yes I backed up all of them, but when I go to restore them it doesn't work. It just keeps restoring them eternally. I waited 45 minutes for app only restore and it wasn't done.
If I am just clearing data in the process of a factory reset, can I maybe wipe data manually or with a tool that wipes data?
Anyone know the answer to this? I tried installing from the apk pack of services, but not all of them would install. My phone really needs a factory reset, I'm getting a lot of software related errors.
Could I maybe manually wipe certain apps? If anyone happens to know which built in apps are okay to wipe I would like to know.

Not all the apps in system can be installed via tapping on them. They need to be manually moved to system/app then change permissions. You can copy all over using root explorer

Nothing. You will just have a rooted out of the box fresh condition phone.

All you need to do is swap internal and external mount points. My Eclipse ROM has this built in. There is an init.d script that is floating around here that will do it as well.

Im getting a "Failed to Backup" error when trying to backup, anyone else having this problem when trying to backup the file /data on the root of my phone. I have root access and when i launch the app, su is allowing it root access. I might try uninstall, reinstall, reboot.
Edit: Simple Mistake and fix, needed a larger SD card. Thanks flusshd!

I dont think so, but I think your sd card is not enough of space for this big /data, its more than 2GB. Did you check for this?

[Q] Integrate apps into ROM

I was wondering what are the necessary steps to convert an user app to a system app and integrating that app into the ROM before installing said app. To be more specific I want Swype keyboard to be installed onto ROM memory and not user space. I've tried with Titanium Backup & an other app but it failed in the sense that it gave me errors after restarting. Help is greatly appreciated.

Hi there, what are the advantages of doing this (getting Swype into the ROM)?
- Save space on data partition
- Survive factory reset
Sent from my U20i using xda premium
Survive factory reset-> that's good to know!
Thanks! (Already hit the button)
I tried with Titanium Backup but still nothing, Swype keeps giving me a force close after restart. And it's not the only one. Can somebody point me in the right direction towards placing the apk inside the archive and the necessary steps to make it work ? Thanx in advance.
Total Commander treats .zip (and .apk) files the same as directories, so you can copy the .apk directly into the rom's /system/app directory without the need to unzip/zip/sign.
Uninstall the app before reflashing the rom with the app included.

Default App Choices not sticking

OK guys i.'m tying to track down the file or files responsible for saving the programs I choose for my default apps. I am having my settings only stick for around ten minutes. After that time I have to choose my default app if multiple choices exist again.
I have a working theory that my permissions on said file or files are borked and I need to get them setup right again. I think they are not being written to the "save" fle and when the program chosen is killed my choice is killed with it.
I have tried using fix permissions in my recovery to no avail.
I am on MeanRom 2.6 ICS I am s-off with full root access.
Could someone tell me the file or files I should check and what the permissions should be when I look at them?
Thanks for any help,
Adan

I would try a full wipe (system, data, cache, dalvik-cache, sd-ext, boot) and then flash the ROM again. Some files might have gotten messed up during the flash so it's always best to start with a clean slate

Sent from my HTC Desire X using xda app-developers app
You can only remove them in recovery via adb shell rm /system/app/*.apk
And if you're on stock ROM, also remove it's odex adb shell rm /system/app/*.odex
Or you can use the script made by Maarten here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36278172&postcount=30
extract the updater-script, edit the filename for the apk that you need to remove and put in back in the zip, and flash that in recovery.
Tried root uninstaller but no luck either. It came back after reboot :/

No app can uninstall app on DX except the way I described above.
There is some sort of protection HTC imposed on DX that you cannot use an app like TB, Root Uninstaller & etc; they won't work.
Note: before you remove anything, make sure you make a nandroid of your stock ROM before that as once an OTA is out, you need a clean stock ROM to update successfully.

But my rom are now rooted its too late to make a nand backup now..
Anyway, nand backup is on cwm recovery right?

If you never remove anything from the system partition, it is never too late.
(I believe you not yet able to remove anything )
And yes, make a nandroid backup with CWM.

What I meant is its too late for me to backup a clean stock unrooted rom.
Sorry can't edit my post above since I'm new user although I'm not new to xda I'd just created a new account.
Anyway I wish there was a simple way to remove the odex on the bloatware I want to uninstalled. On link2sd, the app mentioned above are marked with ODEX (green).
Guess you were right, can't move an an app with an odex on it though I don't know what odex is.
Sent from my HTC Desire X using xda app-developers app
I understood that. What I meant is it is ok to make backup with a rooted stock ROM.
To update an OTA, you don't need to remove your root app or any installed app as long as all system files are intact. You don't even need to relock your bootloader. What you need is a stock recovery.
You can read more on this topic on the link in my sig. Even though that is for One V, it works the same principal for DX.
You can remove system apps from recovery using app called Aroma File Manager, made by Amarullz, you have the link in my Index.

Totally forgot about this nice recovery explorer/file manager
As I always use a PC base explorer/file manager to add/remove files to/from system partition.
To w1040
ckpv5 is right. You can not delete files simply from Data or System folders.
You have to do that in recovery mode. If you try to delete files from any File explorer, your phone will simply restart.
Though we have rooted our phone, however it is not 100% rooted. HTC made S-ON on all of those device so that people can not do any changes on systems.
Play with your phone with complete nand backup.

Actually we do have 100% root, S-Off differs a lot from root. And there are multiple ways of deleting the apps. You can make a flashable zip file yourself if you know how to, you can use aroma file manager (mount system before using it), adb, or any other recovery file manager, if it exists

Probably someone should make a tutorial how to delete system apps here using aroma file manager?
Would be really useful.

Yup understand. I am sorry I wanted to say he can not do it thru any file browser when the phone is running. It will simply reboot.
Need to try Aroma File manager. Deleting with flashable.zip is really a pain not so simple.

+1 for that.
Addition
I have made a new idea on removing bloatwares. The idea is that the user can select the apps that are to be deleted in aroma. I have already made a project regarding this but only for my device. You can port it to your device and maybe share this with everyone.

Yeah! One moderator told me! I won't do like that from now onwards!
I have the t-mobile 626s variant. Ive rooted and still have a bunch of process and apps I dont want. I dont have a computer at the moment becuase its being fixed. Is there a list of apps safe to remove? Thank You
You have to install an insecure kernel. You can find a lot of custom kernel in these forum, choose one of them
