Hi, so i didn't read that restoring a backup via TWRP causes a boot loop of the system process crashing. So i'm trying to fix it.
The backup i made was of the MAXIMUS5.5 rom
I downloaded this SPR-N900PVPUBMI3-20131004135946 and used odin via the instructions in thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471421 but i got an error of sw rev check fail fused 2 binary 1.
per the instructions on this: http://galaxynote3root.com/galaxy-note-3-repair/how-to-unroot-galaxy-note-3/ i tried it again, and i got the same message.
Now when i just try to boot up the phone, instead of being able to get into TWRP, i get a messaging saying "firmware upgrade encountered an issue" so i tried to follow the steps on http://androidcentral.us/2013/09/how-to-fix-firmware-upgrade-encountered-an-issue-on-kies/ i downloaded kies 3 which said was supported, i entered the model number, but i get stuck at entering a serial number. i have tried (and searched) for what the serial number is, tried the HEX, DEC, ICCID, none of these worked.
So now i'm stuck on this firmware upgrade encountered an issue and i have no idea where to go from here
I've tried searching as best i could to find out what to try next and i'm at a dead end. Can anyone help me?
Thanks so much in advance.
So could it be that my phone was on MJ4 and the .tar i have is MI3? I found this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2522638&page=3 which has file N900PVPUBMJ4_N900PSPTBMJ4_N900PVPUBMJ4_HOME.tar
Would trying to use this file via ODIN help?

Yes. Once your phone is on mj4 you are unable to revert back to mi3 or mi5
Please let us know if this works out for you.

I did a factory reset wipe from stock recovery, it gave me an error about /efs, now i'm getting stuck with just a SAMSUNG logo on a black screen, then it reboots and does that all over again. Any tips from here?
Just incase anyone else is having this issue, i fixed it, heres what i did.
1. After i flashed the MJ4 via odin, i flashed Auto-root, then it reboot.
2. Then i flashed TWRP via ODIN downloaded here: http://goo.im/devs/OpenRecovery/hltespr
3. Then it booted up but was telling me i was in factory mode, so i followed these instructions http://galaxynote2root.com/galaxy-n...-factory-mode-on-galaxy-note-2-phone-csc-pda/ but instead of using ADB i booted into TWRP recovery, used advanced > terminal command to run this
4. Then i did a factory reset via TWRP
5. Then i rebooted and everything is working.

I wonder if you'd flashed the IMG via Flashify, you would've had the same issue. Either way, glad to see you finished the job.

I tried to do AdamOutler's unlock bootloader stuff, and when i flashed the unlocked bootloader file in his thread i got a boot loop, so i tried to flash the stock bootloader file also in his thread. now i get the yellow triangle saying i need to take it back to the store. i can still flash with odin and i just tried to flash the unlocked bootloader again and now i get a fail message in odin.
please help!
even if i can get back to the bootloop i'm willing to take it back to verizon at this point. i just dont want to do that with the yellow triangle, i could just make up some something for the bootloop.

the first thing you ever do before flashing anything on your device is have a stock rom to odin back on. second your not following directions. third your device is not bricked...flashing back to stock will bring it back.
I'm having a similar issue. I had followed adam's protocol for rooting and unlocking using CASUAL; once the process was completed I received a notification claiming that my device was now 'rooted and unlocked.' I then proceeded to download ROM manager and flash clockwork recovery and upon reboot receive the 'system software not authorized' message. At this point I attempted to use the official ODIN provided in droidstyle's guide on root/unlock/etc thread. I see a successful flash of the image but still cannot get out of the unauthorized system software error. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

i did! that's why i was a bit surprised that it didn't work. i downloaded both the VRALJB 4.1.1 stock image and pit file, placed them into their corresponding locations in ODIN and flashed away. should i be allowing ODIN to repartition the disk? (thanks for the help droidstyle!)

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Player 3.6 stuck on "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue" screen
Today I ran into a serious problem. I was trying to flash the rooted ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1864741 : I have the US Version) using odin, and I followed all the steps. While doing it, Odin said it had failed, then I got the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue" screen on my player. I can't enter download mode and my computer doesn't recognize it. The few times it does, it just says "Connecting.." in Kies and won't go past that. I've looked everywhere and couldn't find anything that works. Is there anything I can do? I feel like its just a soft brick but I really don't know. Please help.
you have already posted this on another thread. if someone looked they would have seen and responded.
also for future reference, please post questions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2283877

Hello, I had that too
Follow these steps to unbrick your device:
1. Take the battery out of the device and wait a few seconds
2. Put the battery back in the device and wait a few seconds, again
3. Boot into Download Mode -> It will say "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select...." again. Ignore that!!!
4. If you haven't done it yet, download the stock ROM (Kernel and ROM) for the 3.6 US here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1864741
5. Start Odin and select the tar-file from the stock ROM in the PDA section
6. Connect your Player, wait until the device is recognized...
7. Flash!
8. Disconnect it, and reboot
If this solved your problem -> Put "[SOLVED]" in your title
If not -> PM me!
Good luck, MrBrubble

In your situation, If you're loading attns stock ROM, you need to load his kernel as well.
And that ROM only works in Odin, no idea why it won't work in heimdall, but it won't.

Hello!
[I am very new to this so i'm already going to thank you for attempting to help me! ]
I'll try to be brief
I tried to root my phone, failed, and now I am trying to flash it to factory settings but it is not working.
What I did to mess it up:
-Verizon Galaxy S4
-updated to MJ7 version before trying to root (probably my first mistake?)
-rooted successfully (i was able to use SuperSU), then i tried to install hyper drive
-downloaded goomanager to attempt to install twrp [i think this is where I really messed some things up]
-I was able to use my phone still, although I could not get into recovery mode: ^ probably because of above?
-attempted to use this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301259
-I tried using the .tar file from here: http://galaxys4root.com/galaxy-s4-stock-firmware/
-Now I cannot load into phone* but I can still get into "Download mode" or I get this message
" Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again"
-I have tried using different micro usb cables, not closing ODIN, closing ODIN, etc.
-I tried using Adb, but it wouldnt recognize my device either
I stayed up all night trying these different methods several times with no success.
UPDATE: tried steps on here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507253

All I want is to get my phone into factory settings again, please help.
Look for the pit file for your baseband. Im thinking mj7 now since u flashed that. Odin only mj7 or above. (Sorry I dont know where basebans are lately because im mdk) unselect reboot n select repartition. Should take u back to stock. Or if there is a no wipe tar file that keeps root use that. Hope I helped.

Hi, I don't understand, mobile ran so far (2 yrs) without any prob. I've been flashing and running all Temasek ROMs (4.4.4) without any issue. CWM v6.0.4.4. is installed. Yesterday, found mobile switched off and couldn't remember I switched it off, so I restarted it, and then nothing, I have the Samsung logo screen but it does not start. I can access to the CMW, but I can't do any restore, and dirty flash of ROM (still on the SD card). "reboot system now" gives me the same, stuck on samsung logo.
I do not understand. Anyone could advice me on what to try?
Many thanks

1. A clean flash. If it still hangs:
2. Flash newest firmware with Odin. If this fails:
3. Flash a 3part-PIT with Odin.

ok, thanks for your reply.

Issue now is that I can't anymore access to CMW...
Thanks

Hi, I installed Philz recovery, I can access it. One thing is when I use "power options" and choose "power off", I'm getting a message: "Root access is missing/broken. Root. THIS CAN NOT BE UNDONE" and 3 choices: No, Yes - Apply root (/system/xbin/su) and No...
anyway, when I try to install ROM, it's aborded, zip is "bad", I'll try to put on the SD card another version of the ROM.
Any suggestion?
Many thanks.
I tried a restore from SD card, it starts but at "Done 388/401Mb", I'm getting an error message: Error mounting /data! skipping format... can't mount /data!
any suggestion?
Thanks

Before you start using pit files (which should only be performed if you know exactly what you are doing) have you tried to return to stock I see you have a mac (Odin does not work with mac) so try this software first >> http://glassechidna.com.au/heimdall/ << read all the guides on how to use first. please only use pit files as a last resort before all options have been eliminated.
Thanks, I have both pc and mac, I was trying from work on my mac, but I usually do on my pc.
ok, I'll try stock rom, should I then do a clean install (use this feature from PhilZ recovery)?

If the phone runs out of battery, or just decides to instant reboot for no apparent reason, one or more partition can corrupt.
This is why an efs backup is essential and a nandroid is advised.

I'd use TWRP if I were you and save yourself some headaches. From my understanding, CWM is hit or miss on our beloved Note 3.

First what version of KK where you on when you rooted your device ? Anyway pull battery then reinstall battery. Boot into download mode, then odin flash the version of KK you had before you rooted your phone.
Chances are the device won't boot. DON'T PANIC !!! Happenes all the time, just pull the battery again. Boot into download mode again, and odin flash the stock KK again it should boot the second time.
Once you get it to boot up, check and see what version of KK you are running and make the kernel , modem, and bootloader are the same.
At this point l would odin flash it again to make sure you have a clean install. Now you can root and install a custom recovery. I use TWRP.
IF you have any questions just click rom flashing basics in my signature.
Pull battery boot cold to download mode. From there attempt odin flash of factory tar image. Report back please.
