Anyone, please I need help. After I have rooted my friends' android tablet he asked me to swap the internal storage and the external. after editing the vold.fstab, I've restarted the device. And it just got stuck at the boot logo. I am new here at xda and i don't know how to do a nandroid backup before editing the vold.fstab file. i've tried methods like pulling the vold.fstab using adb, but no luck because permission denied. Please Help...:crying:

Hey
I would like to edit the default.prop of my device so I can use some Android debugging tools.
I know I need to change the file in the ramdisk, but I have no idea how to do this.
Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks!
Try a tool like Root Explorer to mount the folder read/write, then edit/save to your heart's content.
Thanks, but that wont work, as the file gets replaced every reboot by the original one

You need to modify the Ramdisk - split the kernel/boot image.

Everytime you modify Default.prop it will create a .bak file. Just press back button and whoop back in again . You will see a Default.prop.bak just delete it before rebooting your device.
Hope it helps.
Thanks for your help.
I managed to do this by using this guide for preparing the environment:

And this guide for unpacking and repacking the kernel:

Firstly I am a complete noob to root/roms etc etc, and my main goal was to increase the memory of my Samsung galaxy ace.
I have been unsuccessful after following advice in all different threads, so thought maybe if I started my own thread some lovely peeps around here may be able to help me get it sorted.
OK so what I've done so far
Rooted phone
installed cwm recovery
installed cyanogen mod 10.1
partitioned sd card to fat32 and ext3
installed int2ext+ script.
I used terminal emulator to get the script into the init.d folder following some prompts foud online, (using es file explorer I kept getting a read only message)
I formatted and mounted sd-ext via recovery menu
At the moment it still isn't showing the extra memory of the sd ext partition.
The current contents of the init.d folder are as follows:
00banner
40int2ext
50selinuxrelabel
90userinit
So if someone can point me in the right direction of what to do next because I am now comlpletely lost .
Thanks Guys!!!!!

Hi,
I don't know, how would I find out or set permissions?
I have es file explorer which says in properties that it is readable:yes, writable:yes, hidden:no Is this what you mean?????
Sorry total noob, can follow instructions but as for understanding what half this tech jargon is...........:silly:
Reboot into CWM
Mounts/Storage>Mount System
Install zip from SD card>choose the attachment zip

Thankyou, managed to download root browser, permissions are rw-r--r--
Check permissions of other init.d script and set them the same way for the int2ext+. Or just delete the script and flash it directly from recovery.
got an urgent and important question.. please urgent help required.!!!
I edited something in build.prop and restarted. phone goes blank after boot. Tried adb.. [build.prop not found] restored a backup of build.prop into system via adb but after reboot, same thing again and adb shows [build.prop not found again]..!! Can anyone help..?? Also didn't make nandroid backup..
Is there anyway to get the phone running again without losing any data..??
URGENT..!!
Are you either hitting fix permissions in recovery or using adb to chmod the build.prop after pushing it? If not this will happen.

Hi, I have a xolo qc800 .(Qualcomm 8225q quad core) tablet
Recently I was trying too root my tab using all rooting methods.
And after I gained root ...now I cannot access my sdcard ....so I found a guide to modify the vold.fstab
And in the process of modifying I mistakenly modified it wrong.
And now I cannot access even my internal storage and sdcard
Let me remind that I have root access now
But I don't have access to any apps or any file managers.
So I cant restore the file back to original
I also tried using the adb shell to remount as writable but it says "operation not permitted"
I need help to any guides for restoring vold.fstab back to original.
Please guide me.....
Thanks in advance

It's probably best to flash it and start fresh.
