Any here use the dual sim card version? - Samsung Galaxy Mega

I would like to ask questions as far as how it works, how does it handle both sims? Which one can be assigned for data plan? And battery life? I'm under the impression trying to find or deal with 2 signals kills the battery faster?

Assuming you are talking about Mega 5.8
- It handles both sim pretty well.
- Either can be assigned for data plan although only one can use 3g network at a time.
- No issues with battery life, runs all day long and some.

Thanks, the other model I was looking at was the galaxy s4 mini dual sims, but due to battery life may be leaning towards the 5.8" Mega
I assume you also get two icons for each sim to seperate text messages?

[Q] Rogers Galaxy Tab 10.1

Edit:
I popped my cell sim into the tablet. it connected at H+. I guess I answered my own question.
Thanks
I bought a Rogers tablet off a guy who said it was a 3G model. The box was opened but the tablet is brand new.
The Box says 4g on in. I've already put overcome on it. now I'm wondering is it a 3g or a 4g.
Is there anyway to tell by the physical case?
Also is there a thread on the different models and sub model numbers.
Thanks

AT&T markets HSPA+ as "4G." Rogers does the same thing. So it's officially a 3G Tab capable of 21MB down on a HSPA+ network. Rogers and AT&T call that 4G the rest of the world calls it 3G or 3G+. I'm using a phone SIM in my 3G UK Tab on AT&T and get 8MB down in fake-4G (the only real 4G is LTE) cities. The benefit of using a calling plan vs. data-only is you get unlimited messaging too. I don't know if Rogers works the same way.

good explanation and yes Rogers does work pretty much the same way.
The only differnce will come is with the roll out of LTE that is ongoing for Rogers. It is my understanding the 9500R just released by Rogers is capable of LTE but your sim card will have to be changed to accomodate both the increase in speed and (more importantly) the increase in billing charge from Rogers.
so is the latest overcome the best rom to use? or are there others that are better?

there are the stock roms just issued with KI2 base but I believe that is also the basis for Overcome -- install of which also provides root and a complimentary CWM file. The simpicity of this appealed to me!
So its the best starting point I would say at this juncture.
BUT the stock roms for the 10.1 are themselves quite robust, something those of us with the Galaxy S for example are unused to! So you can root and install cwm without overcome and use a stock rom -- best is always subjective and a personal judgement.
Some of the other Roms have good development but are for the wifi only version and look good but aren't meant for the Rogers Tab -- didn't stop me trying them and checking them out mind, but it all depends how much of a flashaholic you are! You need a deodexed rom if you want to install any themes at this point.
The sole custom kernel presently is the Pershoot one: allows you to OC to 1400 and does play nice with either the stock or the Overcome rom -- there is a thread and you can see the feedback yourself.

APNs are carrier specific not phone specific so they are all appropriate for any data enabled phone.
I finally searched for AT&T 3g APN's on Google. It works now, but my phone shows Edge connection. It sucks!

Hey sholsten,
Coming into this conversation a bit late, but thought I'd drop a recommendation (you may have already checked this) - if this is like other dual sim phones, a lot of them have one SIM slot that supports the highest data capability of the phone (3G in this case) and the other SIM slot does only 2G. Could it be your SIM is in the 2G only one?
Would love to know if this resolves the issue, I'm looking at this phone for my Dad who is on AT&T in the US. Thanks
Only one sim can use wcdma/3g the other will be on 2g/gsm.
Any of the 2 sim can use the 3g network, be it your primary or secondary sim, using it for more than 3 months now and very happy with it.

Verizon Note 2 on other carriers experience thread

I think this deserves a thread on its own and this shouldn't be closed because there are a lot of different ways this can go and a lot of different ideas behind using this effectively.
I was unhappy about the amount of money Verizon charged per month so I decided to end my contract and use my Note 2 on T-Mobile. Unfortunately, "T-Mobile" Note 2's are rather hard to come by so I stuck with the Verizon one and decided to unlock it. My question is:
For people using the Verizon Note 2 on other 'contract free' plans in the US:
1) Which rom works for you?
2) Did you modify settings to get data to work properly?
3) Which plan did you choose and how do you like it?
I'll start:
1) I'm using Tweaked. Out of the box, it works with T-Mobile SIM card and receives data as well. In San Diego I get HSPA+ most of the time, even indoors, so the rom works pretty well with different carriers. I did use the Verizon Tweaked rom as well.
2) It wasn't necessary. With the stock rom I wasn't able to consistently get data. I wasn't even able to get Edge to work properly. With Tweaked, I didn't have to modify the MMS settings so I can even send picture messages without issue.
3) I'm using the T-Mobile $30 plan with Wal-Mart. I get 100 minutes a month, 5GB of 4G data and unlimited text messages. Contrary to popular belief, text messages do not eat up my minutes. I send more than 50 text messages per day and I still have about 20 minutes left before my recharge and I'm about 3 weeks into this month.

i just bought a verizon note 2 today for my at&t plan... i put my sim in and i had voice and text instantly. changed the APN and had hspa+ data.. didnt even need to root it to change the apn like i had read on another site. never knew these phones were unlocked out the box from verizon. is LTE possible im wandering with at&T? maybe with a new radio?? even so im fine with 4g, LTE would just be a plus.
Some tmobile users have had problems... I hope somebody can help those users out.
Hi Everyone,
I've been getting the shaft from Verizon with the Galaxy note 2 and paying the 200+ month bill as well. Anyone out there switch over to Page Plus, I've read that they piggy back off of Verizon's network. Any experience ? Thanks
Im curious about this as well, looking to move to tmobile with my note 2 until something else comes along.

I'll be hopping over to AIO in a few weeks, I'll tell y'all how it goes.
Took my rooted verizon note 2 running alliance rom into a tmobile store today. I borrowed a sim card and booted up. It showed signal, but wouldnt recognize it. I switched to global mode in mobile networks and ran apn global fix and it showed h+, h, and 3g. Data was functional as was wifi. Should it show 4g or LTE as well?

Tmobile 4g is h+ they are rolling out lte oz certain areas but without proper radios the Verizon note 2 will not get their lte and I don't suggest flashing another carriers radios. So hspa+ would be the best you could get.

It works pretty well, WHEN it works. Some roms are stubborn about sticking to Verizon and don't allow the switch. I was using Tweaked and it worked well. Tried out LiquidSmooth and couldn't get cell signal at all. Even with global mode.
Now I'm gonna try out Alliance because I want something more current.

I have my verizon note 2 flashed to pageplus have great service... everywhere that verizon has service my phone has service.. I only have 3g though . No 4g lte available for page+ yet... call sms mms and data all work.. im running jellybean latest rom
I used my Note 2 in Europe over the last week without many issues. Data was fine and worked well when I used it. Used SFR in France, Vodaphone in Spain, and T-Mobile in the UK. When switching between carriers, first connection to the network took a little bit, but beat out the new wife's SGS4 when connecting to the networks. When I got back to the US, my phone decided to refresh SIM data, but haven't had any issues other than that.
I'm in the process of trying to find an AOSP or 4.3 CM based rom that can use T-Mobile. All I've had luck with so far are TW based roms. As soon as I switch to a CM based rom, I'm not able to make or receive calls and apn settings can't seem to get data to stick.

Just wanted to update some experience:
AllianceROM :
1/5
Just not a very pleasurable experience. Data worked and calls worked fine but I experienced a lot of bugs just in relation to the rom itself. Re-flashes didn't help. Whenever I opened a picture in Gallery it tried to use this Accuweather overlay on the picture, would always crash gallery. GPS wouldn't work properly either. It was always stuck and GPS fix never seemed to do any good.
Pac-Man:
3/5
I want this rom to work really badly. Out of all the roms I've tried, it's the cleanest, fastest and picked up T-Mobile data just fine. Unfortunately it will not send SMS. I tried changing to global mode, GSM mode. 4G worked, 3G worked, data worked and even PHONE CALLS worked. But for some reason even after flashing again, rebooting, reinserting my SIM card, I could never get SMS messages to work. It has the correct MMS info but that's not the issue. It just will not send SMS.
At this point in time, the most consistent and best rom I used was Tweaked but I wanted to try out AOSP after the Nexus 5 came out and I missed the plain Android. I also get annoyed of the Galaxy excessive amount of 'hint' pop ups during initial flashing.
Just switched to net10 and it's not too bad. Data is a Lil slower but not much. Just popped in the sim and added apn info. Running beans 22.

Straight Talk just shut off the data on my VZN Note 2
I've been using my Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 2 on Straight Talk for several months without any problem. I did the Bring Your Own Phone thing just as they advertised. I never had any problem until 2 days ago when they shut off my data. When I called them, they said my phone and ALL Verizon phones were not compatible with S.T.
I asked why I was able to use it just fine and then all of a sudden they nixed my data. Not the voice or text. Just the data. They only repeated the same prewritten jargon about Verizon phones not being compatible with Straight Talk.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Flash AT&T Modem on G900T?

Can this be done? I ask because I am using the T-Mobile version on AT&T. LTE reception is not bad, it just can be better, especially in low signal areas? Does anyone have any information flashing the G900A modem for T-Mobile? I have searched and can't seem to find anything on this.
Radio and antenna wise, I believe they are the same device specs, so not like a number of years ago where there were antenna differences between them. T-Mobile radio supports all of T-Mobile and AT&T, AT&T radio however only partially supports T-Mobile (NO 4G AWS band, more limited LTE)
There are a number of people that have compared the two variants and no significant reception differences have been found

Right. I understand that. But what I was asking if we could extract the AT&T modem from the G900A (AT&T Branded S5) and flash it on the T-Mobile S5 (G900T). That way the frequencies would be better optimized.
Now my T-Mobile S5 did pick up Band 4 LTE on AT&T and reception was excellent. This is mostly due to the fact that T-Mobile natively uses band 4 for LTE.

I doubt that has any effect at all. Frequencies don't get optimized at least not on your end. I think the phone does have a priority list for which bands to use but it automatically switches when one is better than the other.

I don't know about that. Perhaps it is not "optimizing" but carriers definitely do something to their modems on smartphones to make them work best with their networks. While the T-Mobile S5 works almost flawlessly on AT&T, the AT&T S5 still gets better reception. Perhaps the difference is negligible, but its there.

I am comparing my signal with the T-Mobile S5 from what I experienced on the AT&T S5. While signal difference in good reception areas is not noticeable, signal in lower reception areas is much weaker. The AT&T S5 would send texts messages almost 95% of the time at my work. With the T-Mobile S5, I am getting about a 10% success rate on text messages being sent.

The only way I have been able to increase texts going through successfully is by toggling airplane mode. I guess we will have to use that as a work around.
Having an AT&T modem on the Tmobile variant will make the device better handle connecting to LTE/HSPA networks and the phone will switch between frequencies them more efficiently. Now, I don't know if that's possible without bricking the phone.

There's your answer right there. T-Mobile released a patch today to deal with poor SMS/MMS or texting issues. Doubt it has anything to do with signal.

Well i was looking to this this with my t mobile s5 with no luck. like another guy said, in good signal areas signal doesnt change but i am in a bad signal area a lot and my phone jst doesnt switch frequecies like it should. I been using att on t mobile phones for a while and installing the att modem but with this one im having some trouble. i have the att modem.bin but when flashing it i get a bootloader response error
You're lucky to get an error and the bin file didn't flash! Please read and search more. There are many threads on xda about similar attempt types. Device-specific modem files cannot and should not be flashed on other devices. They are hardware specific and will cause your phone to stop working if you manage to get it to flash.
Setting up ATT APN settings will suffice for those using att Sim in a sm-g900t.

Yes i realize the risk, and I'm actually not too worried about them. I don't at all think the phone will stop working, however I still can't get the modem on here anyway. I have tried the tar, and bin with no luck. If anybody is willing to put something together I'm willing to test it out. Fortunately in my line of work, it wouldn't be a big deal to get another S5.

If it's not taking in Odin, then I really don't think its going to work. Odin is like the master of all things Samsung for end users. The S5 has a lot of tampering prevention measurements made by Samsung. It wouldn't surprise me if the bootloader is doing a reference check with the modem to see if the modem matches the bootloader.
Also, I wouldn't go about flashing full ATT tar files to the T-Mobile S5. The partition tables are now different in the Galaxy S5 variants when in previous models they were the same. So flashing the ATT full tar could lead to your download mode being wiped.
What exactly is your problem? When you say "not switching frequencies" what exactly do you mean? Like going from LTE to HSPA+ or HSPA+ to LTE etc.
I have created an xposed module for myself that allows me to quickly switch my network preference at ease using a widget. I may share that once I tidy it up a bit. If your issue is being able to switch between HSPA+ LTE 2G etc then the widget should help you. I only use it to force 4G when in a low 4G environment or to force LTE when in low LTE environment.
BTW: What line of work do you do that you can simply get another S5? I'm jealous

I'm jealous

Yes I definitely wouldn't go as far as flashing att tar.... And sometimes when I lose signal it takes a heck of a lot longer to gain it back ad t mobile basebands as opposed to art ones. I get another phone about every month and a half to two months so I've definitely tested around on and and also yes when it switches from lte to hspa+ etc it doesn't switch it like any att phone I've had. Takes longer.
And as far as my line of work goes I just mean that I would be able to afford another one if this one broke.

Might be taking longer due to the different radios. Weird though cause if it has an ATT sim and ATT APN configuration, it shouldn't have any delay and function like an ATT phone.
And yeah I'm jealous you can afford a new one if you broke this one takes me a year to save up in order to buy my next upgrade.

Question E-sim + Physical sim = battery impact?

Hello comrades,
I plan to switch to an e-sim and use a physical sim whenever I travel abroad. I know the battery life goes for a toss when dual sims are enabled. Does this apply to e-sims? Can our comrades here please share their experience running dual sims on their devices? Appreciate your comments.

E-sim or not, the power consumption is still there because the modem is still being utilized.

Gotcha..what sort of a battery drain are we looking at? The other option is to carry a second phone for the international number! Is the trade-off better this way i.e. the inconvenience of carrying a second device < the inconvenience of the battery drain

Well...difficult to answer. It depends on the network coverage, the bands being used, and if you're utilizing 4G or 5G. In my case, having 2 sims increased my IDLE battery usage by about 50-60% approx. So, usually, one sim was around 1% idle, and dual resulted in around 1.5-6% while the DATA was active.

Hey, thanks for this. You nearly caught me there with the 50-60% figure but in real terms, I think the trade-off is small such that carrying a second phone would be an inconvenience. Is your dual-sim setup on 5G or 4G? I'm assuming the drain would be less brutal on 4G than on 5G.
When I only used one pSIM in my device. It easily got 2 days worth of battery life out of it before I wanted to charge it. I get pretty much about the same using one pSIM and one eSIM.

Lol, when I was writing the "50-60%" I had that possibility in my mind.
IMO, it's not that BAD with dual sim. But if the network coverage gets really bad on both sims, those numbers might drastically change.
when i used only 1 sim my battery life was impressive i got easily 8h of sot with around 15% battery left. When i inserted my second sim the first day wasnt so great i got 6 or 7h of sot with 4g enabled on both sims then i changed the second sim to be just on 3g because i use it mainly for calls and the battery life improved a little bit (note that was a month or so ago).
But now i didnt change anything and the battery life improved like i just have 1 sim card installed.
Battery life will hugely depend on the signal quality you're getting from both SIMs as if one or both are struggling to hold the signal, your drain will increase dramatically.

You can not have esim and physical sim at the same time, the phone does not allow it. It has to be 2 physical or just esim.

The U.S. variant does not have two physical SIM slots - only one. And I at least have no issues with one physical SIM active and one eSIM active at all times.
There would be no other way for the U.S. variant to be "dual SIM," since it cannot have two eSIMs active at once.

Are you talking about some specific model, because I have one physical SIM and one E-SIM both active at the same time...

Can confirm that physical ans esim work simultaneously.
My fault, I have seen that you can not have the sim and, esim in the same tray, so I have put the sim in tray 2 and it works, thanks.
Hey guys, do you know if having a disabled physical sim impact battery life?
My primary sim is an esim, and the secondary sim is physical sim that i keep disabled.

Well, single sim vs dual sim does have an impact on the battery. Disabling one sim should improve your idle usage by some % (depends on many factors, but the improvement is still there considering that the modem needs less power).
I actually run dual (physical+esim) and the battery life is still amazing mind you my first sim is on 3G/2G because I only use it for calls and sms and second one 5G/4G for data only
