[Q] will I lose root? - Xperia Tablet Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I just bought this tablet today with 4.1.2. I'm rooted, and BL unlocked.
If I update via normal will I lose root?
(I read that 4.3 is hard to root)
Sorry if it was before,or very dummy question. :$
Do you suggest to use CM11? Is it much faster?

Yes, you will lose root. Follow the 4.3 Root method to update without losing it.

[Q] Rooting Ultra C6833

Hi
I'm on .510 and I just got done reading through a bunch of rooting threads and had a some questions.
From what I've read you cannot gain root access if you upgrade to .257.
If I root it now, then upgrade to .257, will my root remain intact? I have screen sensitivity issues and want to upgrade, just trying
to find out the best way possible and be able to unlocked my bootloader, and achieve root.

Question for you. Im having trouble upgrading to the latest firmware version. Are you already on version 14.1.B.2.257? If so, whos is your carrier, and how did you go about getting your update?

From reading your thread it looks like you lose recovery.

No, I'm on .510 but I got the message to upgrade to .257.
If you're already rooted on .510, install OTA Root Keeper (from the Play Store), then update to 257. You should (if everything goes well) still have root when it's done.
This method (with OTA Root Keeper) did not work in my case.
My Ultra has already rooted, I received the OTA update, but the update refused to install.
Every time I tried to install the upgrade, an unknown error occured and the phone restarted.
Finally, I succeeded to upgrade the software with root using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46803343#post46803343
hey all, sony xperia noob here, been reading the forums but i hoped you wouldn't mind a quick question. i got a C6802 that has .257 on it, and it still has warranty until late February 2014. is there a way to downgrade without unlocking the bootloader, then root(again, w/out bootloader unlock)), and then update back to .257 and keep root with one of the methods?
or should i not even worry about the warranty? on the phone they said unlocking the bootloader does void the warranty, but you know, they have to say that i'm sure. thing is, i figure there is a chance i could exchange for a replacement if i find any quirks.
thx in advance for any info/advice.

A couple of rooting questions

I have a couple questions to ask about rooting this device.
I have a UK model with unlockable boot loader. Everything stock on the device.
1. Is there a root out yet that doesn't require unlocking the boot loader?
2. Can I root without voiding my warranty?
3. Can I easily unroot and leave no indication of it being rooted, to make a warranty claim if ever needed?
4. Do mobile banking apps still not work on rooted devices?
5. Does rooting slow down your device?
Thanks in advance

1. Yes there is a full root thread on the Original Development forums for the Z2
2. No, your warrenty will void with root however removing and flashing a stock FTF it will restore your warrenty as your Z2 no longer contains modified content
3. You can unroot via the app and there will be noticable changes unless you used root to modify but then you can flash a stock firmware
4. They should. Very few apps actualy check for root
5. Rooting does not slow your device

Thank you
Also is there a tweaksbox/Xposed style app for the Z2?

Almost all Xperia 4.4 xposed/modkits/etc work for any Xperia with 4.4 KK aka Z2 with 4.4

So I can root without unlocking boot loader, and then just unroot to restore warrenty if/when needed?
I have looked through some threads and a little confused about if the phone has to be downgraded to root? The build number ends in .402, so can I root easily?
Thanks again, I do appreciate you taking the time to help me

Yes you can root without unlocked boooader as of posting this
You can restore warrenty by removing root
I think you can stay on 402 to root, not sure, look at doomlords thread in original development

I never ended up rooting my device, but decided now is the time.
I am on 17.1.1.A.0.402
Bootloader is unlockable, but currently locked (and will be staying that way.).
Does anyone know if there is a way I can root it without unlocking bootloader and without downgrading firmware?
Thanks in advance

yes you can root easily now with locked bl (thanks to all the devs that contributed btw), you can upgrade to .314 and root that easily too, you can then restore ftf to stock and keep warranty. or you can also root, then backup TA, then unlock BL and do whatever you like. you can restore that TA backup later to get locked bl again and restore ftf to stock and keep warranty.
Thanks guys.
Is there any super simple step by step guides for doing this?

Before you root, you should read the threads in the dev section as potentially you are unleashing a beast which can brick your device.

[Q] Upgrade to 4.4.4 z2

i'm on EE in uk and they tend to take while with latest FW. If i root can i upgrade to a custom or overseas 4.4.4 and use remote play?
if i can't i'm going to have to suffer xfactor and downton abbey tonight so it's really urgent!
Yes, assume you are on 4.4.2. But you should know a few things first. Firstly you don't need to root to unstall a new version, just flash an ftf through flashtool. Don't Unlock your bootloader as report indicator remote play won't work without drm keys. If you do want root, follow these steps:
1. Root phone with TowelRoot or similar,
2. Install recovery for locked bootloader,
3. Install prerooted 4.4.4 zip through recovery.

thanks!
Maybe i'll avoid downton after all!
Good decision. Everyone should avoid that show.

Yes by all means avoid Downton Abbey. Flipping show just glorifies the aristocracy. There were flipping bas#### who treated everyone else like scum!
X factor isn't much better either. I'd avoid that too!

If you only root you can keep your warranty by unrooting. If you unlock your bootloader you will lose your warranty
what i have been told is that we must downgrade to 4.2, root and then upgrade by ota. Which by the moment is no good for me.
how i flash this rom?

5.0.2 stock 270 locked bl rootable or no?

Hi all, I have been waiting to see if a dev would find a method for root on my C6806 totally stock and locked ZU. From what I read the only way available (still) is to revert to 4.4 first, is this correct? I only want to add root access and a custom recovery, not interested in other roms atm, and don't want to wipe. Also please mention the keys/ta thing in any response. Thanks, really, love this phone!
Use kingsroot root.
