[Q] MMS on cm11, Any fix? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello forum. I've been a fan since I had an LG Ally with Velocity Rom. Love this forum. I almost get answers to any issues I'm having, with that said, has anyone found a fix for MMS on CM11, (I'm on the latest build (cm-11-20140221-UNOFFICIAL-fascinatemt))? Love this rom with devil kernel tweaks. No reboots as long as I keep cache clear, but I don't know how to fix the MMS issue. I can't get or send pictures. I've searched, but can't seem to find a fix. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Other than that, great ROM. Thank you.

Try the 8sms app,
either here http://8s.ms/download/
or through the play store 8sms
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.thinkleft.eightyeightsms.mms
make it your default sms app
then set:
MMSC:: 'http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms'
MMS Proxy :: blank
MMS Port :: blank
MMS over wifi : Off
User Agent :: SAMSUNG-SCH-I500-Mms/2.0
User agent profile url :: 'http://wap.samsungmobile.com/uaprof/GT-i9000.xml'
and test...
.

Still nothing. Thanks for all the effort guys. I;ll keep researching.

and when you opened apn settings,,,
either by voice dialer "edit apn's" or an apn settings apk from the play store like "HiAPN Global", or "APN Settings Shortcut" widget, elixir2,,,etc
You have the same settings as the std Verizon from the .xml file
As in:::: main important APN you must have::
spelling, capitalization and punctuation is critical for these settings
Name:: "Verizon"
APN:: "internet"
MCC: "310"
MNC: "004"
APN type:: "default,mms,dun"
MMSC: ="http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms"
APN protocol: "IPV4V6"
APN roaming protocol: "IPV4V6"
Authentication type: "CHAP"

I did have to use elixir2 this time to open/edit the settings none of the others were letting me access it...
but gosh its hard to figure out how to use it at first...

Wow. I cant figure this out. All other roms mms works. I tried all suggestions. I love this rom, very stable. I know its something Im not doing right. Just cant figure it out.
Sent from my Fasinate still going strong. Don't laugh.

I'm not giving up on you just yet... What do you show when you open apn settings and what program are you using to open it?

Thanks for the effort. I took a look at my apn config file in system/etc, was fine. Also did the 8sms app with settings. Still nothing. I installed paranoidandroids latest build. It's much better than previous builds (I was on earlier PA builds, but too many reboots). Anyway, pa rom is fine, no data issues or mms fails. Thanks guys for all the effort.

MMS on ICS issues

Can someone please teach me the proper way to get my mms working on ics (Jt)? I know I need to edit the build.prop, but I am not exactly sure what numbers I need to change. Thanks in advance

You can't on the fascinate...the mezmerize folks can get it working by editing the build prob, but not us fascinate users from my understanding.
After running gummy for fassy, and aokp, I can't get mms/or SMS to work properly on aokp. On aokp, mms won't work at all, SMS works unless u add a ♪ or ♥, then it force closes. On gummy SMS is perfect , mms works receiving. Question is, I can send mms messages longer than 160 characters, but it refuses to send a picture. Anyone have a similar problem? Or know what options I have?

Unfortunately I was never able to get MMS to work on any of the ICS ROMS, even after starting from scratch several times, and trying the setDNS fix, etc. Not sure why, but my phone just doesn't like ICS yet...this makes me sad. I sure did love the way my phone worked on AOKP, no wifi issues at all. Oh well.

I did try the set dns fix, with no luck. I can't claim I did everything 100% correct, I was rushing because my better half was frustrated with me as I was spending way too much time working on fixing my phone. She was right, of course!
I may give AOKP another run sometime soon, I really really like that ROM.

Give AOKP Build 22 Test a try...that fixed MMS for me.
I've been battling this issue for a while. What works for me is ....start mms...then choose FILE/PICS.....choose your pic from gallery..... if it doesn't send right away, I close mms, toggle AIRPLANE MODE , then reopen mms....seams to work for me. I also switched to CHOMP APP.
Edit: ssm only works over 3G

It's funny you mention that...I will be eligible for a new device in the fall, just around the time the new iPhone and maybe the new SGSIII, and possibly another Nexus device are available as well. I've been an iPod user since the original, and have no issues with Apple or iTunes. But I still can't see myself getting an iPhone, regardless of how nice it is with the next version. I can't imagine not being able to change my stuff the way I want to. With an iPod, I don't care, I want it to just play music and manage my playlists, which they do very well.
Hi everyone, I'm lpt2569...and I'm a Flashing/Android addict.
Yes lol I also use an iPod for music. This was before I got my fascinate. I used iPod a lot for music. However now that I am figuring more and more how to do things with my phone ( music , radio and podcasts ) I use the iPod less and less. Battery is no longer issue since I have 2 extended and one extra stock ! Lol : D

Thanx everyone for some helpful ideas. I'm goin crazy over here trying to get my mms to work. I've flashed soo many ROMs lately, I'm getting cross-eyed. The only way that my mms works is using THS 6.1, works flawlessly. If I flash gummy or build 22 I have no luck. I even copied the mms.apk from 6.1 and i still have no luck. Is it that the ICS builds just work different on different fascinates?
update: running build 22, and coping 6.1 mms.apk to /system/app folder, and setdns.....its now working
I flashed AOKP Build 25, and still can't get MMS to work. There must be something funky with my Fascinate, or I've done something funky in my flashes (most likely scenario). I've tried every workaround, and every way of flashing, and MMS never works. Oh well. ICS is really nice on this phone. Just wish I could get f&$!ing MMS to work! I'm going to try build 26, released today, and see how it goes.
miui ics 2.3.2
mms didnt work... used this setdns trick... mms works perfect
mms works perfectly on THS.. build 6.5

MMS frustrations!

Hi All
I have searched and read numerous forums posts regarding problems with MMS sending failing, all seem to point to APN settings being the cause. However, I find that unless i have a Samsung based ROM installed, whenever I try and send or open received MMS messages, the messaging application crashes and no matter what i've done, ROMS i've tried I get the same result! any CM based kernels cause it - CM9 has always done it, and the AOKP based roms using CM9 kernels as well.
Can anyone shed any light on this? Really want to get off the horrible clunky Samsung ROMS but use MMS a lot!
Agreed. I deleted all APNs and installed fresh settings from network providers website, no joy. I gave up and use whatsapp for pics. Never looked back. I'm paying for data so why not use some for pics. Hope you find a fix soon.

Try to reboot twice.. If that doesnt work you're going to have to find the apn settings and input them manually.
Try Slim ICS ROM it;s the complete opposite to clunky!
It's a really nice ROM with lots of features and is fast and smooth
I've been using it for about 8 weeks now and think I'll stick with it, so far no problems with anything at all, no FC no errors. And MMS works perfectly

Stop using MMS. There's much better, free alternatives, such as email.
I also am unable to send MMS using Swiss Orange Me Pre-pay sim. I am running Resurrection Rom 2.6.1 and Siyah Kernel 4.0.1. All attempts to add APN setting manually, reboot and clear cache and Dalvik cache and fix permissions have not solved the problem. I have changed from Kernel 3.5.2 to 4.0.1 and still no luck. I obtained correct APN settings from the Orange shop and the staff member commented that the Kernel may not be completely compatible with the network. Could this be the answer? Or is it something to do with the Rom build itself? Has anyone got the same problem on the same setup on a different network? I am aware that trying another Rom or Kernel or Sim card may solve the problem. I'm happy with my setup and send pics using email instead as I have unlimited data. I would like to know if this is a common problem.

Whilst I may use email etc, there are still times when MMS is useful, and for people not quite a tech savvy. It's also a basic feature of a mobile phone!
I am surprised that no seems to know the answer here - surely others experience this?
Just to confirm - I have tried multiple modems/kernels/roms, permission fixes etc, and rebooting multiple times. Even re-partitioning in ODIN! I have tried getting the settings sent from O2, requesting through SIM, and enetering manually; rebooting several times when rom is installed etc. Nothing seems to fix it except a samsung ROM?

If I get your question right, this is your problem:
'Only Samsung based Roms allow you to send mms successfully'
Try this solution:
- you will have to ensure mms settings is present under APN settings. Confirm if it's correct for your network provider.
If it's not correct, you will have to find it and enter it manually because Aosp messaging app cannot save configuration messages unlike Samsung messaging app.
- Reboot your device you manually added your mms settings (if not, skip this step).
- If messaging app still crash while sending mms, then use another messaging app, I recommend Gosms. It can allow you to manually link your mms settings.
Your problem should be solved now.

[Q] Mobile data issues with UltimaRom 6.0.2

I've been using UltimaRom for some time now and love it! But recently updated my Galaxy S3 to the latest version only to find mobile data not working.
I tried flashing previous versions, doing full wipes as i went but still couldn't get it back.
I've ended up using odin to flash stock back on and data is working again.
I tried going straight to to the latest UltimaRom but the same problem has occured.
Any suggestions?
Hello,
I'm using the same rom, but I don't have that problem, however I do have a suggestion.
On your current rom, got to:
System settings - More settings - Mobile networks - Acces Point Names, and click on the one that's there.
Inside that there should be one called "apn".
Write that down somewhere, and when you flash Ultimarom again, go into the same place and paste the info. (it should look something like this: www.Internet.mtelia.dk or: websp, it depends on your carrier)
It sounds like the new version somehow doesn't have the correct apn setting and so you will have to set it up manually.
Hope this helps.

Was running the ultima rom and had a issue with data, manual set up of apn worked for me. :good:

thanks i'll give that a go.
is it just the field named apn i need? just checked and there's a bunch of information in there.
Depending on your carrier you can log in to their site and get the settings texted to your phone, and install it from there.
I'm with T-Mo and I did it that way to save writing things down. Just choose the settings for internet and MMS.

As far as I know all you need is the apn field.
Very few carriers use different values than the default as far as I know.
Worst case is that you have to check on the website of your carrier to see the full apn, but I think it should be fine.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
yeah most carriers setting are the same, just the username and password for your carrier you need
go to there website and request the setting to be sent to the phone then save them.
it how I did it. good luck. :good:
everything is working perfectly now, thanks to all for the quick responses and helpful info.:laugh:

Two Notes One Problem

I have two galaxy notes.. and one sends MMS just fine the other doesn't they both receive and both have data access.
I am switching my StraightTalk Sim between the phones to test and i have confirmed about 800 times the APN settings are exact. But to no avail one works one doesn't... THe only difference is the version of Flapjaxx rom i am running ones a version newer.
I have the same thing with my FJ 4.2.2 ROM. MMS won't receive but will send. Other than that, I love the ROM.
The APN settings that come with a ROM are in an XML file (just a text file, really). If there is an extra space or blank character in that file the APN setting will be wrong. You won't even see it if its at the end of a line.
In the phone with Flapjaxxx ROM make another APN, save it, and use it. When you verify it works correctly for data and MMS, delete the other.

apn mms

I tried all I knew to try before posting and have been at this for over a week. I have the straight talk s3 and its compatible with Verizon aosp ROMs and CWM and with that said, I have working MMS on all jb ROMs but when I flash a KitKat ROM it no longer works.
Things I have tried...
Taken the apn-conf.XML from the stock TW and replacing the kk conf.xml.
Taken the a conf.XML from the working jb also ROM and replacing the km one.
Tried the app APN backup and restore with no luck. And there is no way to manually enter the APN on the ST s3. Im stumped as it works fine with 4.3.. So I. Sure there is a fix I'm overlooking or don't know enough to fix. Thanks in advance.
Have you tried another SMS app that supports adding your own MMS settings? That's a common way to fix issues like this when flashing to another CDMA service or using roms for another phone...

Thanks for the reply.. yeah.. I have been using handcent but would really like to fix it to where I could use the stock messaging app and maybe hangouts. I'm new to this but I think the 3rd party app is fixing the problem I should be able to go in with a file browser and correct it, right? I still have a copy of the stock rom if there is a file I need from it and also aosp 4.3 roms the mms works if there is a file I could use from there. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to answer my question.
This rom has an APN Config feature: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2598410
Maybe you should see how they implement that to see if you can port it to the rom you are using.

Thanks.. Well I gave it a shot and the phone will not take or save any APN that you put in it. I'm guessing its a straight talk thing. But the thing is, I can flash AOKP jb 4.3 and the stock MMS app works fine. So that let's me know it can be done, I just don't know how. Lol

That's was my fault.. Forgot to move to priv app.. However I did get it to restore and I rebooted and tried to send a pic and still stuck at sending. I was for sure that would have fixed it.
***** OK, I tried it several times with no luck. I even deleted the APN and lost signal for a few seconds and it picked back up after a few seconds. There has to be some settings else where in there..?? Than I turned around and installed a SMS app and entered the APN and was able to send a MMS. I'm stumped.
