Hi I received a phone from a customer with this unusual problem. Phone has been previously flashed with custom rom and Siyah Kernel and I've reverted back to stock rom, full wipe and baseband was still Unknown and Imei Null/null. But apparently sometimes the imei and baseband will appear itself back, and it will be fine unless I restart the phone. Sometimes it can take up to half an hour or so or sometimes not at all, I tried repairing with GS II Repair app and still the same, the IMEI will not appear immediately and will take some random time to appear. I did a deletion of the EFS folder to get the generic IMEI and then restore with the previous backup EFS, it will seem to be solved but it is not immediate. The phone will take randomly sometime from as fast as 15 mins or an hour to fix the IMEI back. So may I have any insights or solution to what is happening?
Does anyone encounter such issues before? Is the phone not writing permissions correctly?
I don't want to make new thread for it but I have the same issue. I lose IMEI every time when the battery is empty and the phone is connected to the charger is happens every time when I boot the device with fresh charger start .
Please help
Maybe it is a modem problem.

You should try doing a full wipe and reinstall stock rom. If that doesn't work, try flashing a new modem.

I've tried to unlock my phone the way described here. The phone booted fine for the first time, but it did not detect the SIM card and had no network. I restarted the phone, then I only got a black, flashing (2 sec interval) screen. No samsung boot logo, nothing. I can get the phone into download mode, flash it with a new firmware, but it doesn't help: flashing black screen again.
Is there any solution to this? Thanks in advance!
By flashing new firmware you should get boot ,may you do something wrong in flashing
flash firmware correctly
btw which firmware you flashed?

I think the main problem is that when Odin reboots the phone after flashing, it only goes back into this black flashing screen state. So the Odin flashing process never completes totally.
I tried with a few firmwares, from samfirmware.com, the 2.3.3 ones.
Found a video, same problem: youtube.com/watch?v=ZINqwcqhf5k

Problem occurs if you directly flash one package firmware
try kph or kpb . They are multipackage
after flash multipackage you can flash any one package firmware
I have exactly this same issue, last thing I got from the phone was "strage looking" (aka. corrupted) filenames in the efs partition.. is there any way flash a restore EFS ? does not matter if the phone does not make calls ..just booting is enough
remove your battery first and put in again. then remove your simcard and sd card. flash with full package latest firmware like kpn on kpb and try latest odin ( i use odin v4.42 and succesfully flashing galaxy ace and gio without problem)

Yes, that could be the cause. EFS got screwed up during the unlock process, and Odin can't write the EFS on the Galaxy Ace as far as I know.

any fix ?
hi, days ago my sgs2 stop to read sim card. when i go to preferences there are no imei no imei sv and no baseband version. i tried to copy my backuped /efs folder in my phone with adb shell but nothing happened when i rebooted my phone. do you think it is an hardware problem?
Wrong thread.
But download a rom from samfirmware. They usually contain an efs file. Flash that with Odin and you'll be fine.

flashed just now. same problem. com.android.phone crashed on boot
Are you rebooting with power cable attached? I see that all the time.
Did you see the efs recovery thread?

Try to flash another ROM, with just a factory reset! Helped me!

You have a corrupt kernel.
Same happened to me when using mobileodin (which has now been updated)
Phone screen went a funny white colour, no boot, wouldn't charge, no recovery...****ting my pants...Only had download mode working.
I then got home and used PC and Odin flash a fresh kernel in download mode and all was good again.
Very lucky!!! Good luck to you my friend!
I have a rooted Australian Galaxy s iii i9300 running stock android 4.0.4 and Siyah Kernel V.1.5.3, both of which I flashed about 3 weeks ago.
My phone has been running perfectly, last night before going to bed I plugged my phone into the charger as usual. I didn't do anything out of the ordinary with it, I didn't alter any settings or install anything new and it has been weeks since I've flashed anything. I woke up this morning to see my phone stuck on the 'Galaxy S iii' logo screen as if it had automatically rebooted itself during the night and got stuck. I've tried removing the battery and turning it back on several times but it just keeps getting stuck on the logo screen. I can't enter clockwork recovery mod but I can still enter download mode.
Is my phone bricked?
How did this happen when I didn't even do anything?
What should I do?
Should I try re-flashing the stock ics rom?
Re-root
Try re-rooting it with Odin (from Download Mode), then you might be able to go into Recovery Mode.
Have you recently installed any app? Coz there must be a reason for this to happen.
If the above comment does not work, next step would be to order a jig to force it into download mode.

I can't even get into normal recovery mode, so I'm not sure re-rooting will help (I'll still give it a try though). Assuming it does work, what should I do once I get into Clockwork recovery?

That's what makes this so weird, I haven't installed any new apps over the last couple of days, I did install a few updates from the market yesterday or the day before but I don't remember which ones.

okay, I just to tried to flash cf root and it failed. It says 'There is no PIT partition'.

Did you flash the Stock Rom via Odin with 1 part file? You should try it with 3 part File Stock Rom and flash via Odin.

Thanks for the reply. Where can I find the 3 part file version of the stock Rom? Can you point me in the direction of a tutorial for flashing 3 part files with Odin? I'm only familiar with flashing a single tar file.
Seems as if this becomes a common problem, since this is like the 1001st thread about a S3 shutting down while on charge and not being able to reboot.
This kinda scares me...

Really? I did a quick search before posting this, sorry for the repost. Did anyone come up with a solution in previous threads?
I've searched and searched but I still can't find the 3 file firmware. I don't even know what I'm looking for really. Can someone please link me to a 3 part Rom compatible with my phone?
While my search for similar problems before creating this thread yielded very few results, I have since found the other threads Ch0ka was referring to by searching 'There is no PIT partition'. It seems that if flashing a three part file and repartitioning with Odin doesn't work, the general consensus is that I'll have to send it to a service center for repair. Haven't I voided the warranty on my phone by rooting it? will they be able to tell I've rooted it or is it damaged beyond that point? I really can't afford to be paying for repairs right now.
I'm so upset, I still don't understand how my phone could just brick itself overnight! Could someone please give me some advice?

What version of Odin are you using? Make sure you're using Odin v3.04(or above)
I have a quite similar problem. I thought it might be wise to post it here instead of making a new tread.

Event that lead to my s3 constantly bootlooping
Entered Clockwork recovery mod.
Updated Kernel to Siyah from SD
Rebooted
Phone updated ( update i used to always click away, might be JB s3 update)
Now my phone boots, shows purple siyah picture, shows bootanimation, asks for simcard pin and reboots again.
this loop takes forever.
I cannot get into clockwork mod anymore.
I can get into download mode (down+home+power)
I am very scared that i ruined my phone :crying: :crying:
Is there hope that i can fix this? or like it is really low chance
rerooting didnt bring clockwork mod back.
installed clockwork mod via odin, but also didnt help.
I would really like to revert the (down+home+power) menu to pre root. because than factory reset is available.

Thanks for replying. My problem is that I don't know what to look for. How do I know which one has 3 files? Which one do I need? Sorry, I know this seems like a stupid question but I've never used a 3 part Rom before, I have no idea what I'm doing. Isn't it really important to use the right PIT file?

And if you restore using galaxy toolbox make sure you reset custom bin count and reboot your phone.
If nothing works, flash stock rom and try.

I need some serious help. I have no idea what's going on. I was coming from CR se 3.1 to Jellybeans 20 so I decided to do a data wipe and clear everything and then my phone wouldn't turn on. I couldn't even access recovery. I gave up and decided to do a clean Odin restore with the root 66 stock system md5 and new pit file but I no longer have a recovery installed. I was going to do the casual root again but my phome will not connect to any computer. When I connect it just charges I don't get a new device found or anything. I tried connect it to another computer too and it just did the same thing. All I need is for my phone to connect to my computer so I can restore it to default, install a recovery/root, and install jelly beans. But nothing is corresponding with me. Please someone help me. I'm really desperate for some help right now. Please. I'm freaking out. I don't know what to do. Anything is appreciated. If there's any way you can pm me so we can chat that would be cool too. I'm just freaking out and have been for the past 4 hours.
When did you root your phone? If you originally used casual on the old baseband then flashed roms on the vramc3 modem you need to update casual to the one that unlocks the new modem. I don't see how you could've bricked the phone like that though. Does anything show up on the screen when you try to boot into recovery?
hmmm did you try doing a full odin back to stock and locked?

The modem has nothing to do with rooting, unlocking, or anything of that nature. I believe you are referring to the firmware version correct?
