Weird socket issue - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can charge with original charger + cable but i cant charge with other chargers and use otg cable. Loose contact. Anything i can do without warranty?

Pay for a repair to replace the usb socket, what other answer did you expect.

[Q] Strange charging problem

Hi everyone, hope someone can advise.
I have a UK TG01 and it works ok but overnight it wont charge from the mains charger but it charges via usb.
I have tried different chargers and an old HTC mini usb charger with a mini to micro adapter fitted but its still the same.
I have the Mugen 1300Mha battery but its the same with the standard battery on all chargers.
I have cleaned out both the charger plug and the socket on my TG01 just in case of dust but no good it only charges via usb.
I have hard reset and flashed the standard UK Orange rom but this makes no difference.
Does anyone know whats going on? it was fine, no changes or software loaded and one day its fine and the next day it wont charge??
Any advice would be gratefully received, thanks for reading.
Faulty USB sockets i think try send it back to Toshiba for warranty repair.
Not sure about that as my TG01 does charge if I plug it into my laptop, this would suggest the socket is ok?
I believe that the charger is faulty, try a new micro usb charger, or try another socket

Agreed. As the TG01 is charging via USB, then there is most unlikely to be an issue with the uUSB socket on the phone.
To tell the TG01 to go into charging mode, the uUSB connector on the charger must have the two data pins shorted out. This is the equivalent effect to connecting to a host laptop or PC when connected via a USB sync and charge cable.
If you have a non-standard charger or are using an adapter from eg. mini-USB to uUSB it is very likely that this will not be implemented.
A few questions...
- Are you trying with the supplied Toshiba charger ?
- If so did it work OK with this before but not now ? [likely duff charger]
- If a 3rd part charger, again has it ever worked ? [if not then probably missing the required pin config]
Hope that is of some help.
Hi Kevin, its a genuine Toshiba charger and I have been using it since day one.
I took my charger into work today and tried a friends Nokia micro usb charger and that worked first time so duff charger.
No, I asked him to try my Toshiba charger and that also worked
So I assume my original charger possibly may not be 'shorting' correctly or presenting exactly the right resistance to the TG01 or possibly my TG01 is getting a little fussy about how it charges.
Anyway I have ordered a genuine Nokia charger from ebay and fingers crossed all should be well and thanks for all the advice everyone.

Galaxy S II charger no longer working :s

I found out the other day that my mains charger has stopped working. I have no idea why or how, thinking it could be the phone itself, but it still charges on the usb cable that I leave plugged into my Xbox to charge instead. This is inconvenient because of the length of the wire and the slowness in which it charges.
Is there a solution to this or a little trick to get it to work? Because I have no idea why it's broken or not charging my phone.
Not the end of the world anyway because I found one on ebay for £3.49 which I'll get if I have no answer to this. Thank you in advance
Anyone?

Try a different charger. If you had to find one on eBay, I have to assume you don't have another handy. Borrow one from a friend or something. If it still charges via USB, it sounds as if the AC charger failed for some reason. 3 pounds for a new charger isn't that much.

Has anyone experienced this sort of charging?

Certain power points seem to not charge but certain power points do the charging job perfectly?
what's a "power point"?

The place where you plug your charger in.
that's a faulty charger then
Define 'power point'. Are you talking about different Usb cables, different chargers, different wall sockets or jiggling the cable's connector to the phone?
In the latter: replace the cable and you may need to clean the contacts on the phone (eg with a hard toothbrush)

I think he means wall sockets
ysah i think he means wall sockets also at which it would still need to be a fault with his charger as its there that the voltage is converted to the voltage and ampherage that the phone uses.any differences in voltage that is given to the socket would most likely be on a very small scale
Ah I see. Does Sammy do one to one exchanges of the charger if its faulty?

I have the same problem, but with all cables
I just posted to an other threat about charging problems, so i will copy/paste it:
I have the problem that the phone only want to charge with soms chargers.
I can connect the phone to the original charger or to a pc or any device without problems, the phone will charge.
Even with an old blackberry charger (only 2 wires, no data) and car charger can i charge without any problem!
But when i connect the phone to the htc charger of my old phone, or to an iphone charger i see the phone is connected but it won't charge.
When i open batterymonitor i see that the charger is connected, but the phone still use his battery.
I tried this with all kinds of charders and all kinds of micro usb cables. Then i thaught there was maybe a resistor or chip or something build in some chargers, because i couls only charge with chargers with 2 wire cables.
Then i took a usb extension cable and i disconnected the two data wires so only the + and - 5V cables were left,
but still no success. If anybody knows where the problem is, please let my know
with kind regards! Martijn

In the case there would be more people with this problem:
The problem is not caused by the charger but by the cable. If i use a cable that's a bit to small or to long i get problems. If you want a longer cable to charge your phone, you need a good and big one, not a cheap tiny cable. I only use good cables now and had no more problems for the last year or so...

Hello. I am not sure but there may something like this, but do not know is this only cable or also controller.
Search on Aliexpress "letv x820 flex cable usb"
If this is not that part controlling the charge process then it could be mainboard failure, but I am not expert.

Not specifically. But it is possible.
If you are talking about the charge block only and not the USB-C cable.
The branded blocks are not always universal and provide only the amount of wattage to charge device they shipped with.
This also carries over to the cables sometimes, that's why when trouble shooting you may be asked if you are using cable that came with device.
Occasionally manufacturers have been known to wire their cables/ports differently so only their cables will work. This is not so much an issue anymore with universal standards, but it used to cause many headaches.
But back on topic, if just referring to the Samsung charge block that you plug the USB-C cable into, then yes it is possible it will not charge your device.
