A little advice please? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

VI've had my fascinate since the froyo days. Recently I've got fed up with my lg spectrum. I'm only stuck with Verizon for a couple months.
My question to you guys. I'm stuck on gee wiz or touchwiz due to my SD card. How does kitkat compare? I have no need for a spare SD so I don't want to buy one just to run a old phone when everything works fine like it is unless kitkat runs noticeably better

in my experience, kitkat was about the same if not worse than 4.2. stick to geewiz, i just switched to that again after a couple months of being on ICS.

agreed, kitkat is not yet up to the combined performance and feature levels of jellybean type ROMS... just stick it out with what you have...
although with a new phone you will probably want a newer, bigger, faster microsd card,,, and you can find class 10 or better 16GB for $8 - $12 and 32GB for $16 - $20...
So, I recommend you spend some hard earned/saved cash on a more future-proof sd card :fingers-crossed:

So my girlfriends class 2 sandisk SD works fine. But it doesn't like class 4.
I've already tried miui. Data speeds are painful. Can't get 4.4 to flash. Finally got happy with Stephen spears ics aokp with the glitch kernel.
Sucks I've only got until Friday to use this thing with service. Jumping over to att and getting a g2 or htc one 64gb

get the htc one. several people i know have it and it's an amazing the device. the G2 is simply too gimicky for its own good, LG's trying to innovate and i appreciate that but when your UI makes TouchWiz seem minimalistic, there's clearly a problem. also those rear buttons are too weird.

Is sg3 wprth it ?

Hey guyz.
I have a galaxy nexus right now and i really like it after changing from an iphone to an android,i wont go back to ios again !
i have 2 problems with my current galaxy nexus 1:Battery 2:storage
My question is: is the new galaxy s 3 worth to buy ?
and what do you recommend me to get a 16 gb or a 32gb if yuo think i should get it.
will there be any dev that are gonna wow us in the gs3 ?
i dont see an upgrade is necessary if you have gnexus, but still if you need more storage space and battery may be you can go for sgs3.
The devs will surely wow as in the coming months
16gb on the S3 will be for me fine and I am also getting a 32gb card with the phone to expand it. My current S1 has 8gb + 8gb expansion and I still haven't filled both cards but I suppose it all depends on what you want to have on it
i am trying to figure out the exact same thing. i am sure i will buy it, but i think it would be more responsible of me to wait and see what the devs can come up with for my i777.
32gb
I think that 32 gb is the best bet for me but I don't know why I can't wait for it although my gnexus is doing its job but I guess the quad core is the main reason why .
Sell your gnex before it losses its value. It's resale value is taking a nose dive.

If you haven't yet rooted it, using a custom kernel like trinity can do wonders for your battery life.
Storage obviously can't help with

The storage issue on s3 is mitigated by sd cards, but I would still recommend 32gb in case you want to download large apps.
I've just pre-ordered an S3. My provider is only selling the 16gb version (o2 in the UK), so I'm going to put a class 10 64gb microSD in it. This is plenty enough for me.
I'm counting down the days til the end of the month now, and hoping that the clever folk of XDA get some nice custom ROMs and kernels out soon!
it is rooted !
My gnexus is rooted and I am using a trinity kernal the battery is getting better with updates but its nothing compared to gnote that my friend has . I really wanna win the battery life hopefully with the new gs3 !
But I still don't think that 2100 will do the work for a quad core device unless it is stable and rooted
And by the way guys where can I pre order a sim free gs3 in Ireland ? I study there ?
Thanks you for your co op

Well, you can't seriously expect it to compete with a 2500 battery.
The S3's 2100 will no doubt make it more even. The notion that quad core uses more is (kinda) a myth, depending on how well it's designed.
waiting
Well I hope so cause my expectations for gs3 is high and I can barely wait for it .
Hehe
Where can I pre order the gs3 sim free in Ireland
Bumb:cyclops: sorry

Especially better battery life and screen quality.

My gs3 will be here on monday, can't wait!
And I remember when everyone wanted the Nexus cause it was pure Android.
Seems like "Pure Android" is no longer the priority?
I'm exchanging my gnex for a gs3 at best buy. The 21st will actually be my 29th day of their 30 day exchange policy, I got lucky.lol I do like the gnex, but it only having internal memory kind of sucks, plus I feel the gs3 is a step up from gnex with the exception of it being supported directly by google. I'm getting the 16gb pb plus a 64gb memory card... can't wait to toy with this device it looks sick with the new TW. I don't think I'll miss the AOSP interface so much.

Im giving my gnex to my mom who was going to buy her first Android device next week. I have already pre ordered a 16gb pebble blue model and my 64gb san disk just arrived today from Amazon.
I seriously can't wait for the sgs3 to drop. I actually miss TW. Coming from a fascinate, charge and captivate i kinda got used to it. If team gummy can get there hands on a couple devices it's a huge plus. They made my Droid charge 10X better.

Yea I miss the little features with TW, like swipe to call or message. I read somewhere that the creator of CM worked with Samsung to design the new TW. Im pysched to mess with the tap features as well as the physical interaction of the phone with TW, like face down to silence call, tap to top, swipe for screen capture, and whatever else is new with it.
Edit: Im coming from an og Epic.... that's why I'm used to TW

LGOG or HTC One X +

I'm sure this has been debated but I'm on the fence between the two.
As I see it the OG is ahead on al fronts except for the OX having a better Camera, Jelly Bean and a somewhat better form factor.
I might jump over to Best Buy and just get the OG and mess around with it since its an easy return if I decide not to keep it.
Also anyone using a Nano SIM in the OG from the iPhone 5? I have an adapter so I hope I can just pop the Nano in and LTE should work, I read it does on the OX.
Thanks

In my opinion the OX+ is a glorified international OX with more memory and JB. The LGOG is at least something new. Sometimes I compare the OX and OX+ to the Iphone 4 and 4s due to the minor differences and same for factor.

Yes, I have used the nano SIM from my IP5 in the OG, and it works fine. LTE also works with no modification to the APN settings. Just a note of caution: use the noosy brand of SIM adapters, since it has a plastic film to keep your nano SIM in place. Not trying to sell it, but I had the nano SIM fall out of the micro SIM adapter one time and it ruined the SIM contacts on the phone when I tried pulling it out.
Coming from the HOX & HOX+ I'm happier with the LGOG. I do wish the camera was better, but everything else on the LGOG I like better. Jellybean did nothing for me.

I agree that the OG seems to be much fresher and the UI better vs Sense. The camera from what I've read is OK at best, which is a real shame in this day and age. I messed with the Nexus 4 so it had a crappy camera as well.
I'm going to try and get one tomorrow at BB
If you really need a good phone camera, get an iphone 4s or 5.
The Nexus 4 and LGOG cameras are crappy because the pixel elements in the sensor are smaller than those in other camera module sensors.

I just got 2 lines on AT&T and got this phone and the One X+. I also have an unlocked international quad core One X. The original ran cooler, battery was better for me on original One X and my One X got the JB update the difference was minimal. I returned mine and got a Note 2. That being said, if you've never had a quad core One X they are nice in about every way....except they are s on so you always have to fastboot flash a kernel before flashing a new ROM. I don't ROM jump as much on my One X simply for that reason. You can't just download a ROM straight to your phone while out somewhere and flash it. Just an fyi.

I found this awhile back on the One S forum. Flash App GUI. It allows you to flash the kernal then the zip. It makes having S on a little more manageable.

I hate the LGOG, but I think that if you plan on rooting and messing with ROMs and kernels, then the One X+ is the better phone. The LGOG has been out for almost 2 months, and still there is one ROM out there. If you don't plan on doing that, than in my opinion, the LGOG is the clear winner.
Well, when one is looking at reviews on the Internet, it's generally a good idea to flatly ignore all of the ''one star'' reviews because they are either a doa product or an incompetent user. By using the word ''hate" in your first sentence, you have placed your opinion firmly into said ignored pile.

This! Even my LGOG camera was better than my HOX+ camera. Battery life about the same. Love the 2gb of ram. Slapped a 64gb card in, now I have 80gb. Not to mention the Bluetooth issues on the HOX+ which has its own thread of issues here on xda.

I would say that you should go for the OG. I've had the phone for about 2 weeks now, and I love this thing. Even without Jelly Bean, and running on Lg's theme, it runs really smooth. The camera is not that bad, good enough for someone who just uses it now and then like me. And I believe the rom issue is almost fixed, as several teams are working on aosp/cm roms.
In my use of both the LGOG has better battery life then the One X+.... I'm happier overall with the LG then the X+

One x+ hands down not because OG is bad but since you ported this query in xda i assume that you might be into roms and kernels and if so one x+ will surely have better dev support while the development for OG is as slow as a turtle !

I really think everybody echoing this sentiment will be regretting their words in another month or so. Wait until after the holidays. More devs are jumping on board this phone as we speak. One team is close to getting JB on here, they just need to work our some issues with display drivers. Once these main roadblock are overcome then the ROMs will start flowing.
Have some patience, people. This phone is gorgeous piece of hardware. And the stock experience, although not JB yet, is about as slick and unobtrusive as they come!

lol no nobody will be regretting :silly: after all you can't go wrong if you choose any of these smartphones as both are nothing short of beasts if more devs jump the ship to OG then good for both existing owners and future buyers
Not trying to be a **** at all, and they are certainly both great phones. I just think there will be some regrets, particularly as far as longevity is concerned, where the OG's extra gig of RAM may begin to make a noticeable difference in another year or so. Also, and it's not a huge deal to most since the One X+ has 64GB internal, I personally love the expandability of the microSD slot on the OG.
Just saying, steering away from the OG because it doesn't currently have a lot of dev support, even if someone prefers it in every other aspect, is short-sighted.

How great is this phone?

Hey guys, my contract expires in a month and I am looking at a couple of new phones to buy. I currently own a Droid Incredible, and I absolutely love it. The only thing that I don't like about it is that it has poor battery life, and it's kind of slow. Things that I do like about it are that I have a plethora of roms to choose from and it has great development support. Some phones that I am looking to buy are the Droid Razr Maxx HD, Samsung Galaxy S3, and the Google Nexus. Can you tell me about the pros and cons of the S3? How is the developer support for this phone? I appreciate any help!
Developer support isn't the worst but it isn't the best, the Exynos 4412 is Faster than it needs to be, don't go for a Snapdragon S4 Quad just because its faster... the differences are minimal.
If I was you I would get the Nexus 4 over the Galaxy Nexus if you were to get a Nexus device.
Cons:
Not much.

everything is great with this phone, developer community, xda support community is good, frequency of software updates from samsung is also good compared to other OEMs at the moment...overall phone experience is excellent and you will not be disappointed...however, sgs3 suffers from two issues...
1) stock Contacts & Phone App lags, takes 3-4 seconds to open for the first time and will not stay in memory for a long time for fast opening..this sucks...work around is avaliable like Exdialer app from play store or Jkay mod for SGS3 to keep contacts and dialer app in memory always.
2) heavy apps installed from market cannot be moved into external memory (memory stick)...work around available though I guess..!
If you are comfortable flashing a custom rom, kernel or mods, then it's a wonderful phone.
Stock experience is good but has some shortcomings like mentioned before.
Overall, I think it's the most balanced device right now. Removable battery and micro sd slot surely give it an edge and it's not as large as a Note.
Xperia Z would be also a great choice if you decide to wait. Seems that it would be a better choice IF you can wait a month or two.

I meant to say the dev support for the Galaxy S3, which isn't massively impressive compared to the Nexus, but that's expected as AOSP is made for Nexus.

Easily fixed with a new kernel or ROM.
Worst thing about Samsung bloatware, but that isn't as bad with the I9305 and its 2G ram.

Yeah, I'd hold off for a few months if you can - get a discount off your monthly bill from your service provider, save that money, then pull the trigger on a brand new S4 when that comes out. S3 is a great phone, and there's nothing else I'd rather have at the moment (except maybe the i9305 with more RAM, although a much weaker dev scene). But with the S4 release within spitting distance now, you'd be mad not to wait. Unless cost is an issue, in which case I'd still say wait, cos the S3 will drop in price quite a bit when the S4 is released. Might as well get yourself synced up with the Galaxy S release cycle now, cos once you have one you're unlikely to want to go elsewhere. I did buy myself a Nexus 4 when that came out, but the only benefits that had was the software (if you're into vanilla Android) and two gigs of RAM. EVERYTHING else was inferior to my S3, so I ended up sending the N4 back.

i was thinking about waiting for the s4 but i don't know when exactly it will come out. regardless, i probably won't buy it since i personally think that it might be too over powered and the battery life will take a hit, but hey, you never know. you're right about the S3's cost dropping though. i was looking at the nexus 4, but the no microSD card
(at least that's what i've read) was a complete turn off for me.
40 million S3 units sold, having come from HTC I can see why just on the quality of components Samsung uses in it's phones. I had a choice between the new nexus and the S3, the removable battery and sd card sold it for me but I'm very impressed by how well the software works. All my phones up to now had AOSP, this is the first that has ( albeit a stripped down version) a stock ROM onboard after three months use.

Its all about choice. I have a nexus 7 which is a bigger version of the Google nexus in theory. Do you mean Google nexus or the nexus 4? I have to say that I love the jelly bean on the nexus and especially the user interface which I think is very simple to use on my nexus7. The RAZR maxx has the best battery life out of any phone I have seen on the market. My friend has one and funnily enough I have a s3. The s3 is brilliant you can really feel and see the quality Samsung put into making their phones. I came from HTC myself after having alot of issues with the one x . I would recommend either the nexus 4, simply because of the software and easy access and the s3 because of the removable battery and SD card which is what made me go for the s3 rather than the nexus

(at least that's what i've read) was a complete turn off for me.

I highly doubt this will be the case - the battery life will be no worse than the S3 (most likely better). Chances are it will have a bigger battery as well as a better CPU (which will have better power management). The possibly larger screen and 1080P will obviously have a negative effect. This is obviously basing off rumour specs (and no one will really know until the phone is released), though point is, just because the phone is more powerful doesn't mean the battery life will be worse. The S3 is more powerful than the S2, though has better battery life (for me anyways).

Yeah, the Nexus 4. What was wrong with your One X? But yeah, I think I'm going to go with the S3. It has a lot of roms (so that beats out the raxr) and it has a micro SD(beating put the Nexus). Having a rooted droid incredible has kind of made those two things a necessity for me.

Should I make the jump?

Spent the last couple days doing some research and I am thinking about getting the LGOG...
Is this beast worth it?
It seems the only major issue I have read about is the 8 mp auto focus blurriness vs the 13 mp sprint version.
I come from a long line of the iThings with my first Android phone being my current HTC Inspire 4g.
I've had it rooted since the day I got it and using jellytime R4 at the moment. Been a good phone, but I broke the screen and its upgrade time.
I saw costco has the LOGO for 49 bucks.
Should I go for it or save up for a Nexus 4 or maybe a Note II?
Firstly, this belongs in the Q&A forums.
Secondly. This phone blows the note II away in many ways. Where it doesn't win outright, it ties it. And the Nexus 4 is actually worse than the LGOG in several ways, though if you need new updates...

I would go for it is far the best phone I have owned its super fast has a SD card slot unlike the nexus 4. I had the note, note 2,galaxy nexus, galaxy s2,captivate,galaxy s3 but lg og is best all of them, but the camera on the s3 and note are better but the pictures are not that bad at all. Plus its only 50 bucks

from what I've heard the note 2 is too big for people with big hands. The lgog also has a better screen and processor
The nexus 4 will have more custom roms but the max storage of 16gb of the n4 was a deal breaker in comparison to the 32gb(16 internal 16 external or the 32gb internal on the korean and sprint version) storage that is expandable on the at&t lg optimus g in my opinion.
The lg optimus g is like the best smartphone I've ever had. The size is perfect , the power is currently unbeatable, games pictures and movies look great. The camera is good for a smartphone (if you want a great quality picture then you need to go buy a real camera .smartphones aren't there yet).
Go get it NOW!!

Got mine last week, was skeptical due to lack of JB ROMs but $50 was too good of a deal to pass up so I jumped in from S2. I'm now a convert, loving it so far, I've it rooted, bootloader and sim unlocked, still on stock ROM as I see no reason to flash a custom ICS ROM when most bloats are easily removed using Tibu.
Camera is decent, phone cameras are just that - snaps, nothing more nothing less, you want good quality pictures, that's what DSLRs are for. My only grip with the OG is human skins can look a bit harsh, wish there's a color calibration app for that, but the screen is still fantastic.
For $50 you can't go wrong with it, so go ahead and make the jump.
This may be interesting. I'm not doing the update, though. Absolutely loving stock rooted ICS and I have no idea what this update has to offer.

Awesome, thanks for the feedback!
I figured I would get a lot of yes votes in here, but I also knew some of you had experiences with the others I was thinking of and would give your opinions.
I agree with the camera comment. I only use it when out and about and don't want to lug around the real camera
Looks like i'll be making a costco run after work tomorrow.
Thanks for the push everyone!
You're coming in at the perfect time. Now that the Korean JB source has dropped we should be getting a ton of great JB ROMs. You won't be sorry.

You'll have one of the top four phones on the market right now but not the best one. multitasking on this phone is a joke compared to the note 2. I just happen to get this one first and canceled my note 2 pre-order. Looks on this one are great quality is great finding a case -well I had a problem there?))
Ascend. 2Evo 3d sprint. 2gs3 sprint. 2lgog at&t.

Made the jump.

This thing makes my inspire feel like a sluggish heavy little turd!
The LG skin will take some time to get used to, but that's to be expected.
Think i'll play with it stock for a couple days just for the experience, but i can see where root will come in handy, I forgot about all the AT&T bloat. As well as only being able to disable facebook rather than uninstall it...
Thanks for the push guys! Can't wait to put this baby through the paces, but now im off to look for cases.
That entire post was poetry, especially that last bit.

Funny, I just jumped from an Inspire 4G also. Been fun, but time for something new and shiny. I just got it this afternoon, but so far, so good.
