If you gps isnt accurate, or takes forever to lock on, or is just not working
goto
settings--->Location & security---> uncheck vzw location services
try to use Standalone GPS services by itself, if not use Standalone and Google. just make sure the vzw one is off.
I tested with some people and it worked for them too.
WoW.... it really works... Just confirmed it myself. I am rooted, I did NOT do lagfix and updated to DI01
confirmed worked. it took 2 sec and was almost 100% accurate. with all 3 checked it was hit and miss and when it did find me it wasnt accurate and it took anywhere from 3-5 min to find me and it was usually about 1-2 football fields away,, still on old software, no update for me yet and no root
nice find

I have had that unchecked since the phone came out and still had problems. If there was any fix it was from the update.
unchecked... no difference, lock time is still measured around 1-2 mins.
didn't work for me...
Worked great for me. I was getting fed up waiting on the damn thing to lock onto me while I was driving and needed to find a place quick and directions. Thanks for the heads up.

I checked all 3 after reading about it somewhere then my gps started working with no problem with google maps and I live in nyc.
I think the result varies.

Take it in to verizon and show them... They will give you a new phone.
So are you guys getting GPS locks in a matter of seconds all the time, even after reboot? Mine takes a few minutes all the time to get a lock, or else is very inaccurate. If I wait for the lock I get accurate to within feet, and it'll stay that way.
Well, I thought that worked for me until I rebooted my phone to see if it really worked. No dice.
From what I understand (and I could be wrong) essentially what you are doing is turning off the cell phone triangulation that google/verizon provide and sticking with just the straight GPS unit. I don't necessary see why turning off the "rough location" would effect the warm up time of the GPS unit, but maybe it actually does.
Just didn't work on mine after my GPS unit was cold.
Does anyone know if this is a hardware issue or software?
Browsing multiple forums brings up slews of the same complaints, but no one has put forth any kind of solution, nor has Samsung.
I have all location services enabled, and I get locks virtually instantly almost all the time, and it's always accurate to within probably a few feet. Maybe I'm just lucky?
I'd hate to say it, but I fear it is hardware, seeing as I have yet to have a lock take more than 10 seconds, usually 4 or less.
This is really the first time I've been on the good side of a widespread issue.

Yeah all of these "fixes" are merely temporary. All they are doing in storing the satelite info so they ock faster. If you reboot and turn off GPS for more than a few minutes it will start all over again. I will be paying VZW a visit tomorrow to see what they will do about since it seems not all phones are affected by this.
And I use my GPS a lot. The other day I was trying to find backway home and my GPS was so far off by the time it locked I was already stuck in traffic, had it locked normally, I would have been home free, my Droid1 would have never done this to me!!
I've only had issues with getting a lock after the GPS hasn't been used for a while. Lately, I've been wondering if some people who don't have issues have some type of app installed that periodically queries GPS? For example, I just installed the Asurion app that is supposed to check my location every hour. I haven't fully tested it yet, but now I'm wondering if this will keep GPS on frequently enough to the point where it won't have to re-start with the delay.
BTW... in early testing (when I first got the phone), I would wait to get a lock (maybe a minute), then after I got a lock I rebooted the phone and I still got an instant lock. So, once a lock is obtained, it seems like it keeps it for a while - even after a reboot. The main times I've had issues have been in the morning after the phone has been charging all night while asleep.

Yeah, I have a fascinate and so does my girlfriend. Locks both take minutes at the very least.
If this is hardware or if anyone has some legit theories, I'd like to know before my 30 days is up so I can de-root mine and exchange them both for phones that actually get a lock in a decent amount of time.
This is my second Samsung galaxy gs2 phone replaced, and still gps is not locking. On first the gps would lock but kept on loosing the lock and was every buggy. Now the replacement won't lock at all.
Is there a special way to get it to lock? I have done a factory reset to no avail. Gps Test show sats but always stays on yellow never green and at the top always keeps blinking never going solid. also I noted after small interval between 5sec to 1 min all sats just disappear for a second and then start all over again. Done a search but got no answers other than return.
Which brings me to my other question. I have now been given the choice to swap the phone with any other phone, or still get another gs2 replacement.
What do you guys think given the choice which of these phones would you choose and why?
1 htc senstion
2 lg p920 optimus
3 keep the gs2
4 any other?
Final question, how do I tell where my phone was assembled? The first one on back cover said "made in Korea by Samsung" and second one said "made by Samsung" nothing else.
Do you guys think the problems might be quality control? at factory's not having clean conditions?
I've only had this one smartphone so I can't compare, but on my SGS2 I also find getting a GPS lock difficult. But several things help immensely:
Be outdoors!
Move around!
Be in range of Wi-Fi and use AGPS long enough for the first lock
Also, download "gps status" and configure "Enable: Auto-download AGPS data" to "if older than 3 days" so your phone caches the AGPS data and you don't need to depend on Wi-Fi every time you need to start a GPS lock.
I found if I sit still, it takes maybe 10 minutes to lock, and quickly loses the lock as you describe. But once I'm in motion, it locks within 20 seconds or so. So definitely try that.
Too annoying it's going back.
Just can't make up my mind between lg 3d optimums and sensation? Which one to go for?
Any idea about pros cons between them?
Which would you rather have?
Hello,
When I teke my xperia s on the first ride I realized that the gps freezes after about 10 - 20 minutes. I started testing on google navigation app, and the same sytuation in on Sygic navigation and GPS status & toolbox. Gps reciver is working fine for few minutes and after that period of time stops. The gps icon on status bar is blinking and programs are waiting for walid gps signal. Does anyone has the same problem ?
Best Regards !!!
Arek
Just got it yesterday, so will gonna test it first.
I've just reinstall system. After that ... the same. Gps stops after 10-20 minutes !!!
I have not got the phone yet, but I would say go and get a replacement.
I hope that's a one off,I get the phone tomorrow and that's one of the things I need to work without problems, anyone else having issues with it?

I am charging my phone for the first time now, but I turned GPS on, set a destination and waiting. BTW, it pin pointed my location right fast. Inside the house.

Right, more or less after 45min.
Phone was charging in kitchen, google navigation on, looked on screen about 2-3 in that 45min and never lost a signal.
I haven't had problems with my gps so far. I used it twice on trips (both times longer than 25min) with google navigation and used it numerous times for a few of my apps and it hasn't cut out on me yet.
I will keep track of it, but it hasn't failed me yet.
H've restet to factory settings. And after reinstal i have strong signal inside building on the secound floor of five. Maybe the problem was in logs of the gps reciver. I will keep my eye on it. Tommorrow again in the trip I will test the device. Many thanks for all !!!
Unfortunately, the same problem begins. Today I came to office. During the trip about 40 minutes all were quite good but after one hour gps stops. After reboot all is perfect but how long... Today I will go to the service center...
I am back at work on Wednesday, so test it properly then.

I've got the exact same problem over here is Singapore. My brand new set would suddenly lose gps signal after some minutes, no matter what app I used to test for signal. So definitely not software issue. Soft reset (yes, while driving!) solves the problem. Happened several times in last 4 days.
I'm a 10-year user of PDA GPSs so I'm very sure there's a hardware issue here. Really appreciate akaliszczuk's response after he returns from sony service centre so the rest of us know if we need to do the same. Thanks man. Also appreciate that you started this thread, cos it was hard to find any info about this, esp for such a new phone.
Very disappointd for such a beautiful product. Its gps fix is actually insanely fast at about 1-2 seconds!
Software used: copilot live 8.2, google maps, gps status (exact same suite I use in my old HD2 that never had a problem)
Hi,
Today i got the same problem (first time use of nav), using sygic or maps doesnt matter.
Did have to reset my phone 5 times in 1 hour navigate.
Looked in the settings, there is a app called Power Saver.
There you can turn Off and On functions at a % level of the battery.
Deleted the app and my drive home ( 1:30 hour) i did not have any problems.
Hello again, I was in office of Polish Distributor. They cange my phone to a new one. I havent any time for testing but tommorrow I will !!! I'll try to delete Pover Saver app too. But the first I will start with this app.

I found it in a drawer under.... power saver. Launched it and it was off already.
Sony seems to have a feeling with gps issue
Let's see this that affects most of the 2011 terminal:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524121
not solution at all from xda guys
and a promised solution from Sony in ICS, after a wait of months
Interesting link, because when it was working for 1:30 hour the phone was also in flight mode.
<Quote>
4) this also not happen in Flight mode, and perhaps it is the most important information, so is not an hardware problem.
<End Quote>
Will try it tomorrow without the flight mode.
Test again in the trip outside the city. The new one Xperia s and... the same problem. With data transwer on and off with and without Pover Save app. After about 20 minutes gps lost signal on several apps. IP4 had antena gate, but new Sony's flagship has its own... gps gate Waiting for ICS ? Tell me that it is a joke !!!
Hello,
I am running a rooted Xperia z2 international version with 5.1.1 and a locked bootloader (used the downgrade method and all the files I flashed were found in that thread). Virtually everything works fine, except that the GPS intermittently loses signal, which has been causing a lot of issues.
It started in maps, so I reinstalled maps. Still there. I also tried it in the Garmin navigation that was included, but it still lost signal. I then used fastergps to rewrite my GPS configuration file, but it still does it. At this point, I'm unsure how to fix this. I heard that I might have to reflash 5.1.1, but that would be a huge pain, so I thought to post here and see if anyone has any ideas.
Thank you.
Update: I have narrowed down the issue. It appears that when aGPS is not on, my phone can view the GPS satellites, but cannot lock on to them. I have read some rumblings that this is related to the firmware, so I am going to try and downgrade to 5.0.2 to fix these issues. I will keep this thread updated as things develop, so that this can exist in case anyone else has this issue.
2nd update: rather than downgrade, I tried loading the. 232 firmware (I had the. 546 firmware before), but it appears that does nothing. I'm in he very of uprooting and calling in the warranty. Before I do, does anyone have a suggestion on something that could fix this?
i've noticed that my phone randomly disconnects gps satellites too. After half an hour of using it with location on, the gps signal goes down, so i need to deactivate and reactivate the location to reconnect to satellites. pretty disturbing when tracking my routes. Hope Android 6 will not have this bug
So, as an update. Over a month goes by while I am sending my device back to the place I purchased it from. They supposedly fixed it and shipped it back, but when i got it today...still no GPS. I know I'm not the only one that has had these issues: (https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z2/Problems-with-GPS-on-Z2/td-p/702261, https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xper...ter-lollipop-update-in-Z3-compact/td-p/967188), but those threads didn't lead to any answers that have worked. I have tried everything, so I am just seeing if anyone has had this issue, has had any success with fixing this GPS fix issue, or can do anything to help me. Thanks.
I rarely use gps but I've never experienced issues with it, however last time I had also some problems.
While traveling in Germany the phone lost it's gps signal every few minutes for couple of seconds. However after I've passed the border with poland the gps was working fine.
So maybe it really has to do sth with the carrier or even country ☺ (I had no agps turned on).

Hello everybody, Today I've found small problem about wifi! First, I connected to wifi after I used it few hours my device can't use wifi(still connected but no data)for 20 seconds and came back to normal ?(I checked my wifi by used my other phone in same time the problem shown up so not router issue) I just wanna ask that have you guys face this after March update?
Just had a couple of issues, but atm working fine. We need more time to test it and more people experiencing same issue.
on my side when it started having problems with wifi, it will not recover, and would eventually disconnect itself from the WiFi. Manually connecting back to it will always fail. However it would be back to normal after a reboot. Not sure if the update screwed up the system. Would do a clean reinstallation when 8.1 update is deployed.
My wifi problems started with a previous update, but after this march update its even worse and nearly makes my phone unusable. It disconnects every 2 minutes or so and then can't connect back, unacceptable bug for a flagship. It's strange that Sony haven't fixed this yet and I hope they'll sort it out soon.
So far I'm not experiencing this issue.
