I updated the tablet yesterday using the Sony PC companion and after the upgrade it will no longer charge. I tried 3 different cables, 2 different PCs and every usb port on them. I tried 3 different wall chargers including the original sony one. I tried it in safe mode and also turning it off and plugging in the cable. It will not connect to my pc and I am really annoyed that the tablet will not charge. It is now dead so I am not able to access it any more.

Hi everyone. I own a GS3 that has been running flawlessly for about 3 weeks but since last 2 days it has developed a problem whereby it only charges via the laptop USB port and not the wall charger. I have tried factory reset, flashed two different custom ROMs based on two different firmwares, pulled battery many times, etc etc, to no avail.
The problem is random, and occasionally the phone starts charging from wall charger, but after a few minutes, charging stops. I have used the original Samsung charger, my old HTC charger, with a combination of many different USB cables and the result is always the same. The USB port appears to be undamaged however as I can use it flawlessly for everything except wall charging - that includes HDMI, USB OTG purposes, laptop file transfer etc.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Some inexplicable weirdness.
Try to return the phone. If you can reproduce the problem in the Samsung service centre they'll repair/replace for sure.

When you connect to laptop, does it recognize it as a mass storage? Are you able to transfer files?

Yes, it shows up as a Media Device and I'm able to use it normally for transfers etc. There is absolutely no problem when connected to laptop, The issue is inability to charge from wall charger - any kind, and even that is sporadic. For example, if i try connecting wall charger and the phone doesn't charge, I can jumpstart it by connecting to USB port on my laptop for a few minutes, and then when I connect it to the wall charger, it starts charging again... but this lasts only a few mins before it stops charging again. With USB however, it never stops and charges all the way upto 100%
did you tried a full wipe via odin? also can you charge your mobile offline via AC? as you said you can transfer data perfeclty via usb it seems the port is damaged at all. One more thing, did you tried charging with different plug points?

Yes bala I have tried every single PowerPoint at home. No difference. The problem is sporadic.
What do you mean offline charging? Do you mean airplane mode?
I haven't tried a wipe using Odin...but I have done a full wipe and system format and clean installed CheckRom v2 after the full wipe via CWM recovery.
Is wiping via Odin different from wiping via CWM ?

i meant charging the phone after turning it off.
odin generally flashes all partitions so it should be better than cwm in this case.

Yup I tried offline charging too. Phone didn't charge with wall charger. Needed to plug in the USB cable into laptop and it started charging.

Nevermind, you already tried that.
No idea what's wrong, but have you tried another power socket?

Strange...
Looks like you have tried all the options.
Please try a full flash via Odin. That will be your last option.

Just try with an another charger.
It should solve your problem.

I have tried three different chargers. Two Samsung and one HTC. Same problem. Full Odin flash is in order I guess... but I'm not in my hometown right now so don't have the bill etc for warranty. When I get back to Delhi I'll try calling in for a replacement.
For now I flashed the latest cfroot via Odin and looks like the charging issue is gone for now, but like I said before it is a random thing...can occur anytime. I'll keep a lookout for this...

same problem since yesterday, infact i m not able to charge throught either of wall charger or usb port.....after i reboot my around 2-3 times i can charge back through wall charger but as soon as i connect back to pc it stops charging.....could this because i m using a diffrent usb cable in pc?
I think i know the reason
The charging port has many pins(see the usb port in light, you will see metal pins having gap in between of them) inside it
pc and charger connects to different pins, so I think charger pins would be damaged or covered with an insulator like dirt
IF YOU LIKE MY WORK, THANK ME BY THE BUTTON BELOW

So it looks like this problem is more common than I thought it was...and I'm not the only one...
Will have to do some more reading up on this. BTW, tried a small fix and the charging seems to be OK now... but will have to test it for a couple more days to actually declare it a "fix". Let's see what happens over the next 24-48 hours.
me too havin same problem
I have the opposite problem.
When plugged into PC I can transfer files etc but its not charging.
It charges via wall charger though, but I prefer to charge via USB.
I really don't know what we should attribute this problem to... I'm going to try getting a warranty replacement, but I seriously doubt Samsung is going to entertain that as the problem is sporadic and not consistently demonstrable....
Maybe I'll just wait till the USB dies totally before claiming warranty...

Hi,
When I plug my S4 into the USB port on my laptop it doesn't try to install drivers or anything. The phone starts to charge and that's it. I have USB Debuggin checked. I have tried this on 3 different Windows 7 PCs. I have latest drivers installed but that doesn't even matter because it never get to where it asks for drivers. I've looked all over for USB options and there isn't any.Anyone else ever have this problem?
Any help appreciated.
Are you rooted and running a rom other than stock?

Bone stock
Is this the stock cable? Have you tried another USB port?
I tried 2 different cables and 2 different laptops. Neither acknowledge I have a device plugged in.
I just another cable and this time on my desktop and still doesnt acknowledge anything is plugged in.
Wonder if an app you downloaded it causing it not to reconize it properly. Can you list what apps you have installed?

I'm going to wipe and reset the phone and try it again..stay tuned!
ok I wiped and reset my phone. All I did was unlock dev options. Check USB debugging and unknown sources under security and again my PC doesnt acknowledge it at all. It just goes into changing mode. I'm stumped
Edit: I'm going to wipe again and this time plug it in before I unlock dev options..
Edit2: wiped again, plugged in to PC and same thing....nothing..
Bump for help!
Are you using the supplied Samsung cable? I have at least 10 generic "micro usb to usb" cables at home that only allow charging. And only 2 or 3 that actually allow data transfer and make my computer see the phone. Seems like the one that came with the phone, and 2 of my motorola branded cables work, but none of the other many cable do anything other than charge the phone. Other than that, i'm stumped. I'd take it back if all else fails.

Hey guys,
My SGS3 suddenly stopped connecting to the PC. When plug the USB cable the phone just charges. No notification shows up on the phone or the PC. I tried using different usb cables and laptops but no luck.
I was running on CM11 when the problem started. Then i changed to a stock based rom. But nothing seems to be working. Any solution????
Search and read, hundreds of identical threads. You have a problem in windows, not the i9300.
find your developer options

Tried everything man. Not working. I used 3 usb cables and two other lap tops. My phone does not even detect the PC connection.
For some reason my phone will not connect to my computer through my USB. I have tried everything and my debugging is on as well. yet still it does not connect. It charges the battery very slowly with USB, much faster with wireless charging. Adaptive fast charging does not work either.
No contact even with Odin via download mode. Have all the drivers and have tried different USB cords.
When you do not make contact with Odin, is it the hardware that is broken?
Have tried different roms in my phone.

I think it might be the USB port on the computer. I know my computer often has difficulty keeping a connection, even when I use a different cord.

no, I have tried different phones and computers.

hi dear .you still facing this problem or you been able to resolve this issue... i am facing exactly same problem on s6 edge..... try many thinks but no success...
very slow charging
not connected to computer
not connect with odin in download mode
not connecting on ADB mode
reactivation lock also not removed from phone...
not accepting any code from dial pad
.....................
plz help me if someone have soloution of this.......
Buy new cable because original samsung are defective. They work ok when charging, but usb data transfer is a hell. With new cable it works perfect but I am so disappointed with samsung. We have 2 s6 edge (32 and 64gb versions) in house with same cable issue ( I previously owned 3 S tabs and galaxy s, s2, s3 mini, s4, s5 mini and now s6 edge)...This is really really disappointing from Samsung. After S2 they started making lousy mobiles (s4 was ok)........Will not buy Samsung again!!!
Issue number 1 - There is no supplied USB cable provided, only a type C to a type C cable for charging. Therefore you are unable to connect it to a computer.
I of course have a spare Type C to USB cable as my other phone (Huawei Mate 20X) came with one. Here is where the problem starts.
When connecting my phone to my computer, I keep getting the following notification:
'' USB device auto-detection stopped. USB device auto-detection has stopped because of a malfunction detected in the USB port. To connect the devices, ensure the port is completely dry or the USB device is not damaged, and tap here.
This is the first problem. Unable to connect to a computer.
Issue number 2:
I am unable to update to the latest software. I've tried wi-fi as per usual and even mobile data and for the past 3 days it says downloading.......
The update is just over 300mb and should not take 3+ days to finish. I've cancelled it and tried again several times, it never starts...
even after stopping the update, clearing cache/data from settings and restarting. Same issue. Xperia system update downloading for many days and not even started.
The phone is brand new, 2 days old, purchased from o2 and has never been in contact with any water yet I am having the above issues.
Any ideas or return it???
Issue 1 - Intended, it's a usb C to USB C cable for use with the stock PD charger. As for not being able to connect it to the PC, try using another cable. If you get the same problem, could be an issue with the phone.
Issue 2: Try updating using Xperia companion (you need to connect your phone to the PC for this)
I have usb 2.0 to usb-c cable from my previous xperia and can connect the phone try to buy such a cable.
Yeah as above, it's your cable thats the issue, and as for the update issue, go to the Sony Xperia 1 support/update page, enter your IMEI number, and if it says, the update isn't needed, then that's the way it is.
I've seen o2 pull an update before, due to their tinkering, it shows up, but you can't download it, as it's problematic.
It'll come round again, soon enough.
The latest so far on o2 is software version 55.0.A.2.205
