Just like title states. I was curious if they do for those that have forgotten or wasn't aware to back them up. I'm awaiting my z ultra today via UPS.
Thanks
AFAIK, DRM keys are contained in the TA partition, deeeep inside the memory. So roms got nothing to do with your drm keys. You will lose drm ONLY when you unlock the bootloader, and that's usually required if you decided to flash something that needs unlocked bootloader (e.g. most custom recovery and roms). If you by any means unlocked the bootloader, the only way to restore bootloader is by using backup of ta partition from the same phone.

I'm thinking unlocked bootloader of my Xperia GO and would like to help me with some questions before doing
i have stock JB .100
to unlock it will turn normally with the stock Kernel?? or should I change it before booting?
when I turn it on, I'll have it all? (apps, settings, etc) or as recently flashed?
as income in fastboot mode?
Rooting Status:
Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes
Backup TA before unlocking. Do titanium backups of your apps as it will wipe data. Then, you unlock.

Backup TA, as I do? @AndroidNoob69
I am trying to restore my drm keys that i backed up, and im not sure how to go about it. I have a few questions about this for anyone who has restored their drm keys. Do i have to be on an official stock sony rom? Or can i use a modified sony rom? And is the benifits of having the features that needed drm worth the effort of having the bootloader locked again? Thanks.
1. Use the same tool you used to backup the keys. I believe it's in the Cross-dev section here (don't remember its name).
2. Yeah, you have to be on a stock kernel, so just re-flash a stock Sony ROM. Keep in mind that you have to have root to backup and restore the DRM keys.
3. You used to lose the X-Reality engine and some other minor things upon unlocking the bootloader, but Sony changed that in KitKat, I believe, and these things are still functioning (X-Reality at least) after unlocking the bootloader. You won't be able to flash kernels and flash custom ROMs (AOSP etc.) on a locked bootloader, so it's up to you to figure out if you want that or not.
Download kitkat ftf from xperifirm and flash using flashtool, root it and then Restore DRM keys. You will get xreality engine.

X-Reality already works on unlocked bootloaders past KitKat (4.4.4 I believe). An unlocked bootloader broke some things especially on Jelly Bean. No reasons to lock it again unless you plan to send it in for repairs or sell it.
I was on scrubbers 5.0 port and xreality wasn't working with unlocked bootloader. The main reason I reverted back to stock. So do you mean to say that if we're on stock ROM even with unlocked bootloader, we will have x-reality working?
Hi,
So I'm completely new to rooting Android-phones and I just read many threads about rooting and tried to inform myself as good as I can.
But I still don't know if everything will work so I need some kind of prove...
So that's what I "planned":
1. Downgrade to firmware .55 or .69 so I can root my Z2 with locked bootloader using the Community Rootkit
2. Backup the TA with TA Backup so I can relock the bootloader again and get my warranty back if needed
3. Unlock the bootloader and flash to the latest Lollipop firmware (prerooted)
4 (optional). Getting CyanogenMod instead of the Sony firmware
Some questions:
- Can I restore the TA backup on the latest firmware (unrooted/official/flashed with Sony's Emma flasher) even though I made it on .55 or .69?
- What features wont be usable anymore after unlocking my bootloader and using a rooted Sony firmware besides X-reality and the DRM keys? (Noise cancelling is somewhat important to me)
- Will I be able to use X-reality and all the other (somewhat unnecesarry) features again with relocking the bootloader via my TA backup?
- According to step 3: Do I need to upgrade to the latest official firmware in order to unlock the bootloader via Sony's website? Or can I unlock it with the rooted .55/.69 aswell?
Thanks in advance!
E2303, 8GB. Phone image was downgraded temporarily to root with xperiarootkit & backup TA. Latest stock image (with carrier branding due to connectivity issues without it) was (re-)installed afterwards, bootloader unlocked, TWRP installed & phone re-rooted. TA was then restored. SIM card is perma-locked to carrier. ( )
Phone is rooted, TWRP works, bootloader status is still unlocked (???), TA partition exists, but DRM features like ClearAudio+ etc. are missing from the settings. Anyone have any idea what's going/how this can be fixed? Does Backup TA not restore correctly (or worse, backup incorrectly!!! This would be VERY bad!) on the M4 Aqua?
I unlocked without backing up drm Keys and i have normally working phone with Clear Audio+...
What next features dont working u?
Normally you have to re-lock your bootloader for those DRM-related features to work again. At least that's how it was on my Xperia SP.
Can anyone tell me all DRM features on this device please?

That's the thing tho: TA Backup didn't relock the bootloader.

if you did a TA backup when the Bootloader was locked and if you use the TA Backup tool to restore it, it will lock the bootloader again.
thats how it worked for me on my Xperia z and now Xperia M4 (E2363)
How did you backup and how did you restore? The restore perhaps didn't work because the TA partition has to be set to writable (via blockdev command).
This is just a guess. I didn't unlock yet but did a backup of TA (manually, not using some batch files because I don't trust them and I run Linux and Win batch files won't work).

My apologies for being a month late with this.
Flashtool provided the option to re-lock your bootloader. So, once you've restored your TA backup you can then use flashtool to re-lock.
Hope this was useful. :fingers-crossed:
Cheers,
Re-locking using flash tool only locks the bootloader but does not restore the DRM certificates.
after re-locking with flashtool you can use PCC to repair the phone and get OTA updates, but the DRM certificates are not restored, they are lost for good.
unless you have used TA Backup (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598) to backup the TA partition when the bootloader was locked and the certificates were all ok and valid, you need root with locked BL for this to work.
Restoring the TA partition with TA Backup tool, locks and restores the drm certs again root is required for TA restore.
i know because mine worked.
