Thanks @Chainfire for his SuperSU.
Here is a video root guide from @hamdogg, Thank you!
Just mentioned that we needed to wait for a moded kernel for 4.4 to use root.
Is there much difference between RIC in 4.4 and 4.3? It was mentioned in the Z1s thread that it was slightly different on that firmware.
:good::good:
Thanks in advanced
Installed with Flashtool and then flash the supersu and worked!!
Thanks

@jackie099 , thanks for the RIC disabled kernel.. any chance u could compile an alt version with PhilZ in the place of CWM?
I find CWM a bit annoying to use when there's a lot more intuitive option like PhilZ... i dont much care of TWRP, so even a dual rec with both CWM and PhilZ would be ok too, just want PhilZ as an option..
if u've got no plans of compiling such alt versions, it would be of help if someone can help me figure how i can go about doing the same.
thnks

Latest Xposed 2.5 beta 2 running fine. external sd can be writable via root explorer.
After I flash the kernel it only comes to the Sony logo and bootloops for me.
Have tried reflashed firmware and kernel with same results.

Thanks xposed 2.5 beta 2 works great. as for SD card problem, I can copy or delete to sd card content with root explorer. However if there are other apps need to access external sd card in order to write or delete it always failed.
For example, I set my download folder destination (on Boat browser) to external sd card, the download attempted for a while then it failed, it says not enough space.
Also I use sd maid to erase some corps data, both on internal storage and external sd card, on internail storage it success to delete but failed on external sd card.
I found this SD Card Writable Fix and it available in play store too. Works great!

Hi.
You need to unlock the bootloader before you use flashtool.
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
Read it carefully and follow the instructions. This will help you to unlock the bootloader.
After that you can use the flashtool, use fastboot mode then.

Hi,
I am sure you understand, how to use ADB Fastboot.
Download latest SuperSu update zip and have it on SDCARD.
Search and download @desperanto or @AndroPlus Advance stock kernel on pc. Extract .img file ...
Get in to fastboot mode, and flash.img using ADB.
These Advanced kernels have recovery built in.
In recovery flash SuperSU zip.

You are welcome.... :highfive:
So the OFFICIAL 6.0.1 is already out and this is not the BETA version. It's for consumer release.
So how do you get to this eh?
NOTES: Flashtool can be used for both LB/UB. You won't lose DRM keys or unlock bootloader if you flash via flashtool.
1. Install Flashtool (get it here: http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php).
2. There is a XperiFirm option there which would allow you to download official FTF files.
3. Navigate your way to Z3 Compact and grab the D5803 version US Variant (since this is configured for GLOBAL-LTE but i might still need to test bands). Or just grab anything you want there as long as it's version: 23.5.A.0.570
3. Flash using flashmode (hit the lightning icon there).
Now there's this "WIPE" Box, you have 2 options!
- Check User data and App logs and hit flash -- this will factory reset phone so you better have a backup!
- Leave them UNCHECKED if you want to retain your apps from your previous STOCK ROM. (might automatically uninstall incompatible apps in the process).
Once it asks for your device to be connected. Do as it says (power down, then hold the vol. down button as you plug the phone in).
-- this should start flashing.
4. After the process you may now boot the phone and there you have it!
-- Things below require unlocked BL --
If you want root, you can use fastboot and TWRP 3.X (I've tested the TWRP version 3.0.2 on the 6.0.1 beta before)
send this command on fastboot:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery <your twrp img here>
and hit enter. It must return 'OKAY'.
Unplug phone then boot into recovery and flash your SuperSU.zip

If you have a locked BL, then root and install DualRecovery. There is an excellent thread here on XDA and you'll be on TWRP in no time. It also makes sure you'll have the drivers and flash tool and everything that you'll need for this already configured and ready to go.
If you have an unlocked BL, just go find TWRP and flash through fastboot.
Thanks OP!
P.S. I'm guessing for those with locked BLs, we can use PRFCreator and that FTF from Xperifirm to create a flashable, pre-rooted MM ROM...anyone tried? My Z3c is currently bricked (hopefully fixable) so I can't test at the moment.
Another DEV published a root method, both for the LB and UB:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/wip-sony-android-6-0-mm-t3337357/page1
Keep in mind that that method was used for the BETA version of the rom, but yeah it's more likely that it would work with the consumer release. I'll update the OP once I relock my BL and successfully gain root with it.
The UB method there has the same effect as mine
I could not get root with the method, i would get boot img failure on flashing superSU in twrp with unlocked BL but to solve the issue i just flashed the advanced kernel for 6.0.1 and superSU flashed fine..not sure if anyone else is having this problem but this method did not work for me.
Do I keep root with locked bootloader with this method ?
Title of this topic is confusing, it seems that you need BL unlocked to get root.

No you will lose root if you flash ftf on locked BL, you will need to root again using whichever method you used previously. If you flash an ftf file on ANY bootloader locked or unlocked it resets your phone to the contents of the ftf file.

I'm using BETA-SuperSU-v2.71-20160331103524.zip
However I was looking at the PRFCreator thread and it looks like if you add Recroot v2 as the SuperSU it should work. Not sure if it will give a recovery though.
EDIT: Okay. Didn't install the SuperSU binary properly but Kingroot could install the root though. Tried to remove it and replace with SuperSU and got a bootloop. However I have a cunning plan.

We have progress of sorts.
With prf creator add superSU and create the prerooted ROM.
In TWRP Wipe everything but SDcard and OTG
Install pre rooted ROM
Then Install RICDefieat.zip, byeselinux_flashable.zip, and BusyBox-v1.24.1-Stericson.zip
Power off the phone.
Open Flashtool
Load ftf of .570 and check the Exclude System box and flash the phone
Install TWRP using Z3C_MM_TWRP_Recovery_V2_By_Serajr
And that should be it.
Managed to get everything working bar the TWRP but I think that was my fault.
A download file of everything you need bar the ROM.

It seems that updating busybox to 1.24.1 stericson stops R/W permissions and the ability to access TWRP however it is easily fixed.
Tested only in Xperia M4 Aqua E2303, you need UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER,steps:
1. download this recovery (thanks to @dani020110 and your corresponding boot (rename it to boot.img):
FOR E2303.
FOR E2333
FOR E2306
FOR E2353
FOR E2312
2. copy them inside the adb folder and boot into fastboot mode, type in the shell:
Code:
fastboot devices
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot
3. let the phone booting ,shut down and boot again in fastboot mode then:
Code:
fastboot devices
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
Now you have ROOT WITH LATEST SUPER SU 2.76 and custom Recovery.ENJOY
at you own risk .

for locked bootloader we can't flash the recovery via fastboot, must includes both recovery and root in the rom.
But is it possible (for locked bootloader) to update using a pre-rooted zip with the old recovery? Or flashtool is needed to update something at bootloader level?

Just loading doesnt even ask me for root access. Looks like something is fcked up at my side. I tried reflashing still same. I will try reflashing firmware.
This thread was originally for Pixel-specific rooting instructions, but by now the SuperSU ZIP and TWRP are fully supported:
- Fastboot boot TWRP
- Install latest SuperSU ZIP (v2.79-SR3 at the time of writing)
Note that at this time I recommend against fastboot flashing TWRP. With the Pixel's new partition layout, the recovery files are inside the boot partition, and so is SuperSU. If you flash both, SuperSU's internal boot image backup will not be of the original boot image, but of TWRP. This means that neither the 'full unroot' option in SuperSU, nor incremental OTA update through FlashFire, will work as expected.
OR
- Use CF-Auto-Root for Pixel (not released at the time of writing, but should be released soon)
Nice work!
Hell Yeah!!! Thanks @Chainfire, your time as well as others that have made this and the bootloader unlock happen is appreciated very much.

- If you want to use a custom kernel, simply 'fastboot boot' the root image again after flashing the custom kernel. This has been tested with a few custom kernels and found to work well so far.

It was a valid question since this flashing method is different than what we are used to due to the difference in partitions and the file system.

okay thanks, so i guess the answer is actually yes
Thanks @Chainfire - booted and working well!
thanks..emoji..root explorer.. viper.. naptime.. titanium.. yes..
if new kernel must boot boot to root again..
Seems I cannot remount /system_root as rw (to copy Emoji font over).
marlin://system_root/system/fonts # mount -o remount,rw /system_root
mount: '/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/system_a'->'/system_root': Device or resource busy
Edit: Nevermind, used Solid Explorer and granted it SuperUser and seemed to work. Strange.
Does anyone have the stock boot.img for the pixel xl? I don't have the data to download the full factory image.
Life is good!
Thanks to all involved, especially Chainfire.
You Rock!
Worked like a charm. Thanks @Chainfire!
Can't thank you enough. Works perfectly.
can someonone please post the exact steps they are using?
I just unlocked my bootloader. then tried flashing the root-boot img file, it did the reboots, but when i complete android setup, theres no SuperSU and if i install the .apk, it still does not detect root...
just reflashed stock boot.img, locked and unlocked bootloader. waiting for instrustion.
