I am running AOSP 4.4.2 I bought a Strontium Nitro 64GB card. SDXC
Earlier it was not working but after reformatting it to FAT32 and using SDFix some progress happened.
The problems I am facing still:
1. After SDFix ES Explorer can see and access my card but many apps(like Rocket Music) are not able to scan mp3 files in it. If I go via ES Explorer and play it RM player plays it well.
2. USB Tethering is working fine, but I am not able to see my phone as storage when I connect it to PC. (When I flashed(AOSP 4.4.2) I didn't have sd card ). I tried reinstalling driver, restarting etc and fiddling with adb. Adb list my device when tethering is ON but not other wise.
TWRP(latest) doesn't recognize my SD Card.
3. Is it a Kitkat issue or 64GB issue? Can I put my game files etc on SD Card?
My 64gb card is working with AOSP 4.4.2.
1. I had some issues with media players initially. After some googling, I added the media_rw permission to write_external_storage in system/etc/permissions/platform.xml.
2. Did you check your USB connection settings? Also, fixing 1 may help.

Hi all,
Having a strange issue atm, for some reason when I connect my phone to my PC (win7 x64, latest drivers installed) it does not recognize the external SD card. Autoplay opens and shows a normal window for the Internal SD and a 2nd window opens but it contains no options. The External SD card doesn't get mounted and can't be read/written to.
On the android doubletwist would play music from the external SD but no filemanagers (IO or Rootbrowser) could see the external card there was no reference anywhere in android, even in CWM.
. I removed the card, rebooted, replaced and rebooted. Now doubletwist can "see" the ext card but won't show any songs or build a library, filemanagers can also explore the card (which seems fine) BUT it still doesn't show in windows or under storage.
So how does one fix this? It seems [the SD card] is partially working, I am currently running AOKP R25 Preview 5 for i9100

check the link below for remountSd app
RemountSD
Used RemountSD as linked and MultiMount SD card from the store, neither worked.
RemountSD gives the following from the log:

EDIT: SOLVED To some extent
For some reason it's working now (no restart, just started working) I'll keep fiddling but it seems one of the apps has managed to mount it right. Thanks for putting me on the right track!
Hi all.
I've run into a problem with KitKat (4.4) ROMs where it seems my external SD card is not being read by some apps. For example the Gallery will only display pictures from the internal storage and the same goes for Play Music. If I use, say ES file Explorer, it is able to read and modify the contents of my external SD card. This has only happened so far on the two KitKat ROMs I've flashed - SlimKat and SlimSaber. I was able to fix the Gallery problem by installing an app called 'Rescan SD Card!', but that was only a temporary solution as I was having more problems browsing through photos in the Gallery.
I'm wondering if any has run into the same problem as me, with some apps not being able to access external SD content. And if there is (hopefully) some kind of fix for this. I can't really seem to find an answer for this phone on the internet.
Thanks for reading.
Device: Moto E 2015
Android: 5.0.2
Coming from android 4.0 I could manage files on my external SD card using Windows Explorer, AirDroid, or any 3rd party file manager.
Now that I'm using 5.0.2 I cannot manage files on the external SD card using any of those methods. The SD card has over 14 gigs free. The card is formatted and works as Google pushed over my photos and music from the internal SD card fine.
Another problem is I can't move any apps to the SD card. With android 4.0 I could push an app like iBird Pro to the external SD card. Now when I try to push that app to the external SD card it claims there is not enough space. Android storage shows there is over 14 gb free and iBird Pro is under 1 gb.
It would appear that 5.0.2 is a total wreck when trying to make use of the external sd card. *sigh* I hear rumors that M may fix this... if the Moto E 2015 happens to get that update.
You can transfer media to your SD, transfer some apps to SD (if they allow it) But SD write permissions have been a PIA since 4.4.X, so hopefully M does sort it all out.

So basically useless right now. I manage my own media content in a structure I like. Sad. Hopefully M will fix this mess.
Still trying to write to the external sd card. Latest developments.
Moto E 2015
Android 5.0.2
Windows 8.1
Trying to transfer files or create folders on the external SD card in my Moto E 2nd Gen. causes the following error:
"The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected."
What I can do:
Delete folders
Read
Copy from sd card to Windows
What throws the error:
Creating a folder
Copying files to the sd card
On the device itself I cannot get any file manager to write to the external sd card. Apps that try to setup write permissions to the sd card fail. Android itself was able to move photos and music to the sd card when I inserted it into the phone. If I try to move any app to the SD card it says there is not enough space. It has 14gb free.
I finally tried using another computer. The other system is Windows 7 and I was able to created folders and copy files to the external sd card in the phone.
Back to my main system (Windows 8.1) I used USBDeview and cleared ALL usb drivers. Reconnected keyboard and mouse. Then plugged in the phone... same behavior. I have also tried installing Motorola's driver suite and have the same result. I have tried various USB ports on my motherboard both USB 2 and 3.
I'm at loss of what to try next, besides a blunt object to both devices repeatedly.
And I may have just fixed the problem of moving apps to the external SD card.
I erased the card while it was still in the phone. I did this the first time I put it in. I choose NOT to have Android copy over music and photos. Now I can move apps over to the SD card.
However, when trying to create a folder on the SD card from Windows Explorer it just hangs: SD card (Not Responding). It does show "New Folder" after terminating file explorer and looking at the SD card again. And now.... I can rename the folder, create folders, and copy files to the SD card... wtf.
Perhaps the SD card is bad, it is incredibility inconsistent.

I have a 2nd Gen Moto G with Android 5.0.2 and I'm trying to move apps to the SD card as well. I'm a bit confused as to what steps you followed. Are you saying that BECAUSE you erased the SD card and chose not to have Android copy music and photos that you can now move apps to the card? Or are you saying that since reversing your decision and allowing Android to copy over music and photos (and possibly reformatting your erased card?) that you can now move apps to the card? And can you transfer any apps or only certain apps? Are you doing this on your phone or on your computer?
I can transfer certain apps to my SD card on the phone. And using the computer and Windows Explorer I can create a new folder on the SD card. I'm just not sure what steps to take next to transfer the apps to the card, or what impact there might be on data or functionality.
Hi!
I have this weird issue where my 64gb micro-sd card from sandisk turned to a read only format. I was just transferring some music to my phone when I noticed that the transfer speed got very low. I stopped the transfer and tried again later but that didn't work at all. I then tried to copy the music to the internal memory that worked just fine but when I tried to transfer from the internal to the external with the help of the file manager I got "Read-only storage error".
I have tried unmounting/remounting the card back, restarting the device and I have also tried changing MTP to MTC (?) under x-peria connection-usb. One thing that really confuses me is that in this mode I can write and delete content but when I use my phone those added/deleted content wont show up at all and either in the file manager or when I try to connect again.
I saw that some people have fixed it by go into properties and tools and press check now when the SD card is connected to the computer but that did not solve the issue. My phone is a rooted D6503 with android version 5.0.2
Hi,
As far as i know, MTP should allow you to read and write.
Have you tried formatting your SD card on a PC ?
FWIW... Me, too. Was good for a year, then I tried to replace the 64GB with a 128GB. The latter was read-only, do I switched back and now it's also read-only.
LP 5.1.1, rooted with dual recovery. SDFIX installed.
Hi P9000 users!
I had now time to test some stuff with my P9000. One question: I inserted a Sandisk 128 GB SDXC Card (UHS) and formatted as internal Storage (want to move apps). Worked fine for the Phone and i was able to move apps to the SD. But after connecting Phone to USB (via MTP & unlocked phone) it only shows 32 GB internal SD. Also via File Explorer app on the phone i cannot find the external SD or mountpoint....
Anyone with same issue? I also changed connection-type to USB and then my OS (Win 10) does not open phone file system at all.
thx and br

We did an article about the SD card memory management in Marshmallow a while ago on the XDA portal that explains this, I'd suggest googling for it as I can't remember the title.
Edit: Something to do with the SD card being formatted as Ext4 (linux file system standard these days) and Windows not supporting Ext4 filesystems.
Thx for reply, so i am afraid its related to Android 6 default behaviour. So if SD is formatted as internal storage you cannot access via USB from PC or managing files on it via file browser app? Thats really disappointing for me since it then switches SD card to enhanced app storage only, useless for image, videos, music etc. Of course i can format as portable SD, but then no movement of apps are possible (via root its maybe the only option).
In SD portable mode, i also had issue that SD cards randomly disconnects and one time it even needed to be reformatted. Have read about that in another thread, that this is related to physical sd mount... will see to fix this with some tape :/ (gives me not a good feeling here)

Update: checked some forums and blogs, seems not to be android 6 default behavior that you completely cannot access the files on adopted SD-card anymore. after adopting as internal storage... anyone could also reproduce this? I will try doing factory reset with SD-Card inserted..
