Ok, so here is my story. I just got a T-Mobile HD2 yesterday. I successfully installed HPSL, and was running Android 2.2 beautifully. Except I had the problem with the distortion during calls. So I started searching...I must have done at least 3hrs of research before I did anything.
So what I was told was that I needed to flash the radio. I read dozens of forums with people talking about trying all different kinds of roms and people even going as far as saying that if you flash one that doesnt work, dont worry just reflash.
Well, I THOUGHT I had narrowed my search down to the rom I needed. I was under the impression that I should use this rom;
(Leo_RADIO_15.28.50.07U_2.05.51.05_2 (from HTC ** 1.48)
But I unintentionally downloaded this one;
Leo_RADIO_15.28.50.07U_2.05.50.11 **(from TMOUS 2.01)
Now My phone wont even come on! Ive heard people talking about un-bricking these phone, but they all start with going to the boot loader. Mine does NOTHING AT ALL....the light doesn't even come on when I plug the charger in
When I flashed it everything went fine, no errors, nothing, I had the htc loading bar on my screen, it hit 100% and it shut off and it wont come back on.
By the way, I flashed it via usb.
I have a bad feeling that I'm screwed. But if anyone can help it would be appreciated. As I received this phone from a friend who switched to the EVO, I don't even have the T-Mobile service yet, I was going to switch at the end of the month. I don't believe I have a way to get it replaced.
OK, so some more research has found that I definately installed the wrong rom...duh. and that this problem is specific to the tmobile phones.
At this point I have been reading about jtag, RIFF box to be specific. I would be willing to pay someone (a reasonable amount) if they could fix my phone. I'm may be willing to purchase my own riff box, if I cant get my hands on a new phone. I just don't want to spend $150 on a piece of equipment that ill only use once.
But if absolutely necessary, is there anyone out there willing to provide me with step by step instructions on how to connect the jtag to the phone, and run the software? I know its going to involve soldering, I have that coverd, But what and where to solder?

i hope someone answers and you get this fixed because after you hit a radio brick.. im lost.. thats time for me to call my insurance company..
good news is.. there are enough bricks on here that if you have to buy something that will fix a radio brick.. if you chaged $30 -$50 a phone to fix them you would have more phones in your hands than youd know what to do with and would def get your money back.
there was a thread that samsamuel and some other guy were discussing this. the other guy (forget who it was) can do this...but lives in south america. if you search for it, maybe he can help. yes, a very looooong shot...but an idea...
Well I have some good news, for me anyway, I did some research and found that the phone I had received is still under warranty until March. So I'm hoping that since its a complete brick that they wont be able to tell It was modified, and also I believe the rom I was trying to flash is actually an "official" rom(correct me if im wrong).
I have given serious thought to getting the riff box and selling the service, I could definitely use the money, but I don't know the first thing about how to use it.
Now, this seriously needs to be done!! What rom should the T-Mobile USA users use to flash the radio in there HTC HD2? I know I'm not the first or the last person who will brick there phone. I searched for over 3hrs and kept getting linked back to the same thread,
([REF]The HTC HD2 Radio ROM Thread)
Now while that does seem to be a very complete list of roms, nowhere does it give any info on what one to use for what device. Furthermore, I knew what phone I had, what model, the ram and rom size, all the jazz, but nowhere did anyone tell me that the !!T-Mobile!! HD2 was just "Slightly" different than the others. I didnt find that out until AFTER I bricked the phone, as did ALL of the other users who bricked there devices.
I, and most of the other bricked users would agree, there needs to be a thread(maybe even a sticky) that is solely dedicated to us T-Mobile HD2 users. So lets start here!
The primary and really only issue is this...what is the proper radio rom to use on these phones and what is the proper way to flash them? If this question can be discussed it will make many of us very happy.
BTW. Other than the robotic voices, the HD2 ran android AMAZING props to whoever created FroyoStone_Sense_V3.1. its simply amazing!
re post 1 unfortunately you haven't got your information right. the first one will def kill a tmous because it is a ..51.. radio, and the second one will also kill a tmous because 2.04.50.x and 2.05.50.x are from test roms and don't support the 576ram giving the same effect as a ..51.. radio.
re post 5 the radio thread you mentioned. i suspect you have been only reading the regular hd2 section, (this section) when in fact the tmous has it whole own section, complete with tmous radio thread with all these warnings.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=631
on a plus note loads of people have claimed on warranty, just don't mention flashing.
Thank you! I love to be proven wrong. (No sarcasm intended)
I had no idea there was a tmous thread. anyway this was the original radio thread
httpa:Z//Zforum.xda-developers.Zcom/showthread.Zphp?t=611787
I threw some Z's in the link because I'm still new here so I cant post links yet.
And no way did I tell HTC that I flashed the phone. I just told them that I put it on charge, went to bed, woke up, and it was dead as a doornail. I should have it back in 3 weeks.
When you get it back, stick to the tmous hd2 forums for flashing info. For everything else, though, I find the original hd2 forums we're in now a lot more informative and active. The phone are identical except for rom size and the fact you can't flash certain radios. But you can use the same software, etc.
Good luck returning your phone.

We'll I should have my phone back within a few weeks. Apparently HTC repair is backed up, its got something to do with the Nexus One. I didnt say a word about it being hacked, so I hope they don't find out. But anyway, I wanted to thank all of you for the positive feed back with my problem, and for linking me to the right forum. I was expecting to be bombarded with people calling me an idiot, and saying things like "use the F'ing search button", but Instead I was given very useful and sympathetic replies, and all the info I need to not make the same mistake twice. Thank all of you, I wish the users of more forums could be this professional, helpful, and quite frankly this grown up.
Thank you.
P.S: Can anyone confirm or deny whether or not HTC will be able to recognize that the phone was hacked?
im thinking about rooting my vibrant. but my buddy told me if i root, that it sends a message or signal of some sort back to t-mobile, thus voiding my insurance that i pay an extra 5 buck a month for. and i dont want to root, then have my $500 phone get stolen, or water damage, or anything like that and then be out a phone. i understand the other risk, like losing my warranty, and the possibility of turning the phone into a paperweight. but i cant find any good answers on this little signal that gets sent back to t-mo. so true or false? Details?

There is no signal that goes back to T-Mobile because you root your device. T-Mobile can tell if it's rooted if you send it back to them for a warranty repair rooted. And they can (though often don't) deny warranty claims because of this. So, now that we've doffed our tinfoil hats....
The real issue here is honest risk assessment and an understanding of what root is and why we want it.
Rooting is a means to an end, not an end in and of itself. Merely rooting the phone changes practically nothing at all really. Rooting (or obtaining superuser/administrator privileges) simply allows you access to the OS in a manner generally not necessary to simply USE a device.
The question you really should be asking is why should I root my phone? If you come up with reasons and then root, you must then accept responsibility for what you do, as well as what you can undo.
Are there some things you cannot do without root? Yes. Are they deal breakers? Except for the tinkerer who invested in an Android device precisely BECAUSE they wanted to tinker with it at the OS level, the answer here is generally no.
Root is not needed to install apps, play games, make phone calls, navigate, read twitter, etc... If you want total control over the look/feel/behavior, or even the entire OS, then you need root. So it depends on what your intentions are.
Many things that WE DO HERE do require root access. But we're all well aware that doing so absolves T-Mobile from necessarily having to honor a warranty.
Now, can a phone be rooted, tinkered with, and then reverted to a factory state in a manner where T-Mobile/Samsung would be basically unaware (effectively) that the device had ever been rooted or tinkered with? Yes. Does this mean you are not responsible for what you do to your phone? No.
Just keep in mind that many of the things we do to our phones with root access are varying degrees of risky, so it is equally possible (though not really likely if you do your homework) to brick your device and make the ability to revert the phone to a factory state impossible.
The reason why service providers will void warranties with evidence of root is a practical one for them. Rooting an Android phone is generally (or usually becomes) easy as pie. Modding your phone, thanks to the gracious work of many devs and rom cooks, is also very easy. So easy that you can easily do most of this stuff without having the first clue what you've actually done. Click a few buttons, smile, eat pie...mmm...tasty pie!
Start stacking multiple mods along with this lack of clue, and you can easily screw up a device. This is a road T-Mobile (and every other provider) does not want to encourage. People's stupid mistakes can cost them money. It's just that simple.
i have mos def been doing my research . and i know the things i wanna do once i root. i just wanted to be positive that if i root, and then somthing happens to my phone that is not from me rooting (like if i gets stolen, damaged, or lost) that i can get a new one with out having to pay full price. thanks for the advice friend
Hard to top the previous post, but remember, you can always unroot if you ever needed to send your phone back. With custom recoveries you can make backups of your system, and three Vibrant is crazy hard to brick...

Well nothing is 100% positive, and you should realize that your ability to avoid violating the spirit (if not the letter) of the warranty entirely depends on your ability to leverage your research towards understanding what you can easily and safely do.
Gloom and doom aside, so long as you can do a hard reset, reliably enter download mode, figure out Odin3 v 1.30 and use it to flash back to factory JFD (something I do as a safeguard first step when messing with experimental roms anyway...it's best to start with a clean slate...), it's simple to get the phone back to a pristine state.
I generally err way on the side of caution when answering these sorts of questions, but only because I've seen some people do some really boneheaded things here.
YMMV.
bird is the word. now i just kinda have to decide which way to go about actually rooting. seems like theres multiple ways to do so. any thoughts on which way of rooting is the best? or do they all have the same features?
Sure there are different methods but in the end they all accomplish the exact same thing.
Nothing can void your insurance except for 2 replacements in 12 months. It will void your warranty. If the phone gets lost, stolen or damaged Asurion will gladly take your $130 and mail you a replacement.

So I want to root my S4, but I don't want to void out my Best Buy protection plan.
I figured I could always just unroot it before sending it back if I have to, but as far as I know, the S4 has a binary counter that goes up when you install an unofficial ROM. So I was wondering is there a way to reset this counter just in case I want to send my phone back?

So, I can use that to reset the binary count if I need to? I don't have to like, get a jig or something?
In that case, I suppose I might as well root my phone! It'd be great if I could get the .apk from you.
Thanks

I work for BB GS we don't check for root. Phones are Rapid Exchanged. a order is created , a phone comes from our supplier, we send yours to the refurb facility and thats it. I'm on a BB protection plan rooted. So go play stop worrying.
One last thing, it's technically illegal for anyone to go through your phone that works there. so verifying the issue you may have is fine but legally we can't snoop through your stuff hence why no one cares. lastly unless a Dev who wants to bust your cookies and wants to fight which is really dumb and not smart on the employees part. it's still his word against a manager. The full on truth half or more that I work with don't know what rooting means let lone how to check for it. the mobile departments worse. Binary counters would be jibberesh to them. The company has no way to check the status of your phone via the store outside of downloading root checker or Super User. Even then as I said legally by BB terms of Data privacy they can't go snooping. In a nutshell. you have nothing to worry about . Just keep your mouth shut when you need service and no ones gonna ask questions or look anything up.

I use to work geek squad at best buy. We dont care one bit. If you bring a phone in and the home button doesnt work or whatever it doesnt matter to us. We would just fill out paperwork and just throw the phone in the back. Like this guy said, the phone are rapid exchanged and done exactly how he explained it. Nobody cares/nor even knows how to hell if the phone is rooted or even check flash counters. we just verify what you explain to us what is broken and send it on its way.
pretty much every time you get your refurb phone in your hands before the old one even leaves the building (depending if they are lazy)
just listen to everything this guy wrote, its dead on.

My Phone; (AT&T HTC One M8 Unlocked, Rooted S-off ), TWRP 2.7.0.0 Recovery, Superuser GOO Manager installed. Flashed the Venom rom using teamwin app. Followed inst, plus youtube video. Did not work first time. Installed backup phone went back to normal, tried flashing again went fine rebooted once rebooted would not turn on, can not get into recovery. Phone powers up and say UNFORTUNATELY PHONE HAS STOPPED WORKING. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Is there no way to force this phone into bootloader mode?
Well I'm off to the Evil empire(AT&T) to get a new phone.
Phone still under warranty, getting one mailed to me with a return mailer to send this one back, should be here on Tuesday. A few minutes ago I saw the supersu app pop up asking to grant venom tweaks permission. I could not grant it because of the two error messages on the screen on top of it. (Unfortunately the phone has stopped, and Unfortunately blink feed has stopped). Has anyone seen any thing like this before?

I'm sure your phone is fine. you are using an outdated twrp and probably messed up a partition. Unplug phone, hold vol up and power for exactly 10 seconds, let go of both, then hold vol down and power. This should take you to your boot loader. get new twrp img from official site.
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
fastboot erase cache
boot to twrp and reflash rom.
I had done what you suggested many times (read it from another post), the only difference was you said exactly 10 seconds the other post said 15 seconds. The HTC tech I talked to earlier this morning even told me to do that for 15-20 seconds which did not work. Your method worked like a charm on the first try. Thank you very much Sir.

Np, if you hold longer, it actually turns the phone back on before you can hit "vol down" to get to boot loader. If you are ever just resetting, you can hold as long as you want till it resets
I'm happy you go it sorted out. But stop jumping the gun, and running for a warranty exchange when things do go quite right when modding the phone.
If the screen comes on, its unlikely that the phone beyond recovery. Its usually just a lock of knowledge on your part, and just a matter of research on XDA, or asking for help here. If you are going to be modding the phone, you are going to have to resolve yourself to being more patient. Things will occasionally not go right, that is just a fact of the game. The right response is to troubleshoot your way out, and not freak out.
In any case, claiming a warranty replacement for damage that was a result of you modding the phone is immoral; and the very reason why these devices get locked down in the first place.

Please don't question my morality, you don't know me. I've dealt with AT&T(the evil empire) for 18 years, with them adding charges to my account, charging for items I never requested and they never sent, charging for additional minutes and data that were never used. I went to buy another phone ,just like I bought this one. The enormous amount of money they charge for these $80.00 phones is ridiculous. So please wait until you sit down and talk to me about all the things I endured with AT&T before making claims about my morality.

You're right, I don't know you. But my statement, while phrased in the 2nd person tense, does not require any knowledge of you, and does not in any way need to be specific to you. It applies to everybody. If you want me to rephrase slightly, try this:
Claiming a warranty replacement for damage that was a result of modding the phone is immoral and fraud; and the very reason why these devices get locked down in the first place.
The personal details of your life are not relevant to the discussion, and add no value to it.
People often like to frame things in terms of "evil" faceless corporations that don't get hurt if you rip them off. Of you getting payback for so-called "wrongs" they have done to you. But in reality, the expense of fraudulent warranty claims doesn't get absorbed by AT&T, it trickles down to all of us, the customers. And in more ways than one. Not only would such behavior pass on additional monetary expenses to other honest paying customers, but also is the very reason why manufacturers and carriers are locking down bootloaders, and otherwise locking down the phones against modification (write protected partitions, etc.). If not for fruadulant warranty claims (do to botched phone modding), the manufacturers and carriers would let us mod to our hearts delight. Locked bootloaders and other obstacles would not exist, because why would they care? Its not the "evil empire" you are hurting, its all of us.
If you decide to mod the phone, you accept the risk of bricking it, and having to replace the phone on your own dime. Its that simple.

I some what agree with you but not totally, as for as my back ground info now you do know a little about me. You must not know how warranties work if I had taken the warranty phone I would have to send them this one back. So I cancelled the order. This is not an AT&T phone this is my phone, I bought it, I can do what I please with it. In my earlier post I said I went to BUY another phone, not do a warranty claim I told them what I did. I did not try to deceive them, lie or anything(because of my Morality). If it's their phone I agree I should be liable, but it's my phone. It came with a warranty, so did the 2013 Mustang I purchased for my Grand Daughter, the engine failed, the warranty replaced the engine. I was allowed to keep the defective engine, it was MINE I wrote a check for the vehicle. Since I bought the phone they should have made provisions for me to unlock, root, unlock the sim, replace the rom, toss it in my lake, throw from the third floor of my home, and anything else I wanted to do to it, once they accepted my money this became my property. In closing, yes I don't care about big corporations, or the Government, but my morality is intact if it wasn't I don't think I would be here having this conversation with you. Sir, your lesson on morality is wasted on me you should be having this conversation with your children!

You did not use the word "buy" previously anywhere. Only the word "get" which is ambiguous at best. And how a purchase fits in with the above quote (getting a warranty exchange) is unclear.
And I know you go the phone working again, so presumably cancelled the warranty claim. I was more commenting on the intent to make a warranty claim.
I've said my part, no need to carry this discussion any further. And frankly the repeated mention of your "morality" is irrelevant. I'm just making a comment, which all are free to do on this forum. You can take it or leave it (obviously the latter). But saying I cannot comment (and to have this conversation "with my kids" instead) is not your right.

I know precisely how warranties work. You said the following, which to me means you were making a warranty claim due to the phone not booting, which was a result of you modding the phone.

You are right, I did say get a phone, the warranty info came after I got to the store. I buy what I want, and I understand my RIGHTS under the freedom of speech act. You said what you had to say, I just questioned your point about my morality. This is the last I will speak on this, I hope you do the same. Have a good day today and a better day tomorrow.
is there anyone working on a simple root method as of now since vs98512b ?

Don't think so.
I believe with 12 you can roll back still. That's the only option. And since it still works... No real need for anyone to work on another method. Sure it might be more convenient but putting the time and effort in might not be worth it just for convenience

You can root at 10b. Install supersu and have it maintain root across otas. Then you can take all the otas and preserve root. That's what I did. Do not bump with twrp. You must keep the original recovery in order to take the otas. Once on 12b, you can bump but if a new ota comes out, you'll have to go back to 10b first.

You should be able to restore a backup of the original 12B recovery and kernel if running stock Odex'd.

From another thread. Verizon G3 General, VS98523A OTA Release
Note that there is some discussion as to whether this is legit. I haven't researched it.

Yeah, @roirraW "edor" ehT said McAfee is flagging it as a Trojan, but that could be due to what it does:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59061762&postcount=84
Had my stock G3, downgraded to 10B, rooted with IORoot, added SuperSU with survivability... went to do the Verizon Hidden Menu and realized I had to take the 12B OTA again. And now, it says no updates are available and that my Software Status is "Modified". Might be stuck on this one. Got a meeting in 10 minutes, then I'll get back at it.
Wrong thread, my bad.

Update - this WON'T work with complete stock 12b. So, you will have to go back to 10b and root there, preserve root across OTAs, and take the 11c and 12b OTA to get 12b rooted.
Well I flashed back to 10b from 12b (via tot) and it wiped my imei number. Am I supposed to remove my Sim card or something none of the guides say anything.
I ended up using the imei converter and fixing my imei but I couldn't connect to 4G very well and it kept saying I had voice and data roaming. I rooted my phone but since the 4g wasn't working I unrooted it so the software status said official again.
I ended up taking the otas back to 12b and took it to Verizon and they gave me a new sim card and now it is working again but I want to root my phone and flash back to 10b again but I don't want to mess the Sim card up again. Anyone help?

take the sim out? smh
Yeah that's what I'm asking....none of the guides say to take the Sim out...am I supposed to. You took the time to quote my post and write a smart-ass comment but no straightforward answer. Guess this is is the reason I'm a long time lurker and never post.

You've answered the question yourself. Supposed to or not, does it really matter? If you want to be sure nothing happens to the SIM next time, then by all means take it out. The directions don't say to take the SIM out for a very good reason: it's not required.
I've largely sat on the sidelines recently because all sorts of users who don't usually post refuse to help themselves by using the tools available to them, besides their brains and their eyes (and this part isn't directed at you): reading and the forum's search tools, are coming out of the woodwork and expecting information to be repeated ad nauseum. Or even Google, even if googling specifically for info on XDA.
There's nothing wrong with wanting help or asking for help, but it gets tiresome holding user's hands 1000 at a time on a daily basis. This is why I've all but refrained from posting my true feelings regarding all this demanding going on.
Maybe you don't deserve this whole rant but guess what? Like someone else I recall recently on here, you just happen to have been the straw to break the camel's back in my case.
99% of the time, if anyone...anyone at all has experienced something similar, it's been reported and you can find the information yourself. If you can't find the information, more than likely it's because the information isn't there to be had. Pure speculation here: I have no idea if others have taken their SIM out when flashing using TOT or KDZ method. I haven't yet, but I haven't once been able to TOT on four different PCs from desktops to laptops, with different cables and with different USB ports on the same PCs, under both Windows 7 and 8.
At this point I sincerely don't expect you to read all this because I am definitely on a rant, but if you do, good for you.
His answer might've been slightly smart, but your reply to him was downright rude and I don't think he deserved it. You, on the other hand, posed a question you can answer yourself. For god's sakes, try it! Try it with the SIM out and see what happens. Then you'll have your answer.
If you or anyone else feel you must direct any sort of response regarding this to me, PLEASE PM me. For anyone responding to this in this thread, I'll block you if I'm nice.
Sincerely: good day, take care, good night.

Lol you just took it too far...TLDR
His post was just sarcastic and I didn't know if he was 'smh' at the idea of taking out my Sim card or not. I've done my research and nobody agrees upon taking the Sim card out or not. I just don't want to **** up my phone again. I've rooted unlocked flash Roms and gone the whole nine yards on my G2. I am not at all new to this.
Guess I was just hoping someone had a plain answer instead of long paragraphs saying why they are so butthurt.
Toodaloo.

You asked a really dumb question, so I posted I really dumb answer, if you took it as smart arse, ohh well.
Toasting a SIM is pretty rare that's why it's not instructed to do. If it's happening to you, what do you think you should do, leave it In and keep frying them? No, you should take it out, because you have proven you are one of the rare ones this happens to.
I mean, really, if you walk into traffic and get hit by a car, should you coninue to walk into traffic? Only if you want to keep getting hit by cars.
See, if I really wanted to post a smart arse answer, it would have looked more like this ^^.

Really, you can't get tot or kdz to work? I must have missed you mentioning that before, or I just forgot.
Not sure it would help, but on a previous device (i forget which) it would only flash on a clean pc, and only once. After one flash or try it would never work again until I re-flashed the pc. Really weird I know. I have a spare laptop I used so it wasn't a huge inconvenience, but no matter what I did, or sugestions I tried from the community, it just would not work until I cleaned the pc again.

I meant to specifically mention that KDZ works for me every time and on any PC. It's just TOT that always says waiting for connection. I've searched and followed at least four alternate sets of directions, even for problems I haven't had the opportunity to have, like TOT finishing with the wrong number. Tried unplugging and re-plugging, different versions of drivers and the TOT program.
I hadn't mentioned it anywhere so you're not going crazy. ☺ I do have spare computer hardware and considered trying it on a fresh install but I didn't feel I had much hope of that working. I had even thought about using Windows 7 32-bit or XP.
With your experience, now it makes me curious if it would work for me. I might try that next time just to see, whenever that may be. Thank you! I'll let you know either way what the result is.
