Help Needed In Using Background Defocus Camera App On Xperia Z Ultra - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

I previously tried using the Xperia Z2 Ported camera app on my Z Ultra only it fucckked up my phone. I ended up with countless bootloops and I was forced to re-flash my rom.
I'm currently using Firmware 532 Android 4.2 and rooted. I followed the instructions exactly as they were written and it didn't work unfortunately.
All I'm after is using the Background Defocus apk on my Z Ultra. The instructions were not accurate and was incomplete.
Could someone please point me in the right direction, possibly with some easy to follow instructions?
Original link I previously followed:
http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/sony-xperi...ple-xperia-devices-apk-download-links-1439436
All the link contains are the apk files for the Z2 camera apps. It does not tell us how to use and install the apps.
What app/camera app must I use to open the apk files? Where can I get them from? What are the instructions as to what needs to be installed first, second and so fourth?
Thanks.

What are you doing all the way back on 532? Don't expect new features to work when you're two OS updates behind (532 = 4.2.2).
The background defocus app/plugin requires Android 4.3 (290) or newer as far as I know/remember.

Thanks for the link LordManhattan. Reason I'm all the way back on 532 was due to the fact all newer builds were buggy, worse performance, slow camera and there is no root for Kitkat as well as endless bugs.
Actually happy with 532, faster and smoother than 290 and above. I tried the update several times but always found myself going back to 532. Rock hard stable and faster than the newer updates.

I find 290 to be a lot faster than 532, but it's software, so some people might find it very fast, while some may find it slower. There is also root for KitKat, and it's incredible easy to root it as long as your bootloader is unlocked, but it's not yet perfect, and it's a little buggy. A bigfix update is scheduled for this week though, so things will probably get better.

I've just upgraded to Kitkat and rooted it using Jackie's guide and root method. It was an easy and straight forward process.
My bootloader wasn't unlocked, however, unlocking it was very quick and simple. I don't see KitKat being really faster. It does look slightly better, some icons and fonts have been changed, but differences are very minimal.
Boot time is substantially quicker than the previous updates. There are some delays/slight lag when launching some apps but hopefully these will be sorted out when the update is released.
Thanks for your help LordManhattan.

I'm unfortunately still stuck at work in the office and haven't had the time to try the camera outdoors.
That said, the camera has been considerably improved in KitKat. Image noise has even decreased which is even better.
I'm quite happy with the Backround Defocus App. It can no way replace or excel a DSLR camera but it's a good improvement and works quite well.
Here are some samples taken indoors with poor lighting:

Yup, KitKat is a little slower than the previous builds, and that's pretty annoying to be honest, but we'll get an update this week as mentioned, so let's hope that much of the build gets better

[Q] How would you rate the different JB ROMs for SGSIII?

Hi
As the title says "How would you rate the different JB ROMs for SGSIII?"
Pros/Cons?
Which firmware is most stable at the moment? I have tried the last 6 but they keep getting worse. DLH9 was horrible.
I LOVE the Stock Samsung Camera App. Which ROMs does it work on?
A penny for your thoughts....

LI1 is by far the most stable, the others have issues, everything seems to be fine on this one
I just use AOSP ROM's, the speed and smoothness is unrivaled, it wipes the floor with normal TW ROM's, unfortunately there is still the memory leak issue but i think a solution to this will be found soon when all the necessary sources are released by Samsung, i actually don't really miss some Samsung features like i thought i would, speed, smoothness and excellent battery life does it for me and AOSP is the way to go IMO.

not just compete, beats it, i got this for 10 cents when there was a sale on in the market but even at this price it's worth it.

i would advice you to try the hypergalaxy 1.2.1 rom its small, BEST battery life so far from any rom ive used, (50% battery after 12 hours, 3 hours on screen) also its quite smooth and nimble but due to lots of bloatware being removed so you would need to download a few add-ons which is okay because they only take a few seconds! Also most of the other roms start to lag even though i clear cache and clear most ram being used a few times a day using titanium backup anways Go ahead and tell me your experience

^ LOL XD I am too. And I am sure Slaphead is too!
I have tried Android Revolution since 3.0.0. By now it has hit 8.0.0. It keeps "stuttering" and lagging for me. Gets worse as longer it is running. I did try Resurrection Remix. It was good until I got a release where it was horrible. Which prolly wasn't RR's fault.
Samsung Camera does not work on RRso that is why I switched. Also that the Samsung HX Mod didn't workas well. I have CameraZOOM Fx but it is lagging but that might be the ROMs fault. How is CZOOM Fx better? In what sense?
I am running NovaLauncher at the moment. Which makes it a little bit easier to flash and restore. But it stilla job to do with every switch of ROM. Isn't it?
welll samsung is gonna release the official JB in the "NEAR FUTURE":silly:
so im waiting for that to happen
hope its soon :fingers-crossed:

another 'waste of time' thread....

[Q] (Hopefully) simple question.....

Yet again, I apologize if my issue has already been covered in another thread, but here goes anyway.....
Is there any way to disable to bottom notification-tray or turn it into a separate icon/installed app? The reason I ask, is because it's a constant nuisance the number of times I've inadvertently clicked and opened it whilst in the middle of doing something else, like playing a game or whatever. This can be most annoying if I end up unmounting one of my external SD cards in error or whatever and have to reboot my tablet. I'm sure I'm not the only one this has been an issue for, but I would guess that if there is a solution to this issue, it may be an app that would require ROOT access, but I may be wrong (that happens from time to time <g>).
Any advice or directions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

There is a small dot in the center of that bar that locks the bar and hides all the buttons until you unlock it again.
I can't remember if it was on ICS but if not you know my views on that

Can't see any dot there......so maybe it isn't on ICS, worse luck. You know I'd upgrade to Jellybean if only I could get my head together enough to figure out making nvflash backups, and unfortunately, I haven't done that yet. Half the problem is I'm a lazy sod, and having to re-root my Prime after upgrading to Jellybean is another PITA......u know the old saying, if it aint broke......
Any other app you can think of that would work on ICS?
On another note, flump, me old mucker, what are you views on GO Launcher EX? Me, I find it to be less of a memory/resource hog than the stock ICS launcher and is much faster to load, 'not responding' MUCH less.

Nvflash is a 5 minute job. After doing that you do not need to go about installing jellybean and then root etc. You just install Hairybean 2.31 which will bring you up to Android 4.2.2 with root included.
To be honest mate these replies take me far longer than you just doing it so if you want me to talk you thru nvflash and installing the latest Hairybean I would rather do that for you over Gtalk than keep answering. lol
Let me know.

Ok buddy, appreciated, all that you said. I guess I'm just a little nervous about this whole nvflash thing in case I screw it up (I'm not the only one, trust me)
To be perfectly honest and frank, I was thinking of waiting until the official release of JB 4.3 (in October, as far as I know) before updating. What do you think?
I just tried installing GTalk, but it was detected as a virus and wouldn't install......WTF?!?!?!?
A special thanks for the pictorial guidance.....I'll check it out a bit later.
YES! It worked! Cheers bro.

There will not be anymore updates from Asus for the Prime. Jellybean 4.1.1 was the last one.
Hairybean 2.31 (4.2.2) is based off the TF300 rom which they are still updating and has nearly identical hardware to us.
I was not talking about an app for gtalk. You just go to google mail on your PC and then add a person to the chat part in the bottom left.

[Q] Kit Kat or Stock!?

Right, can you lot help me please.
I have a G2. It's awesome. I've rooted and flashed every android phone ive had. But is there any real reason to jump from stock LG to 4.4 in a rush?
I'd be loosing my quickwindow functionality, the knock on feature (Which i love and know has been implemented in other kernels), my awesome LG lockscreen...and the time i've spent customising.
I'd be gaining, probably a bit of speed, a bit of battery and HDR+ pics (sounds good to me) and possibly the new google now feature (if the screen is on).
The benifits sound good, but speed isnt an issue on the G2, battery isn't...so is it worth jumping from LG stock to an AOSP or similar?
Have I missed anything?
Thanks.

Knock on is working on the AOSP roms. and if you want Knock off you can just use nova launcher combined with the screen off app. That solves that problem lol.

Yeh and 4.4 deals with bigger screen better by hiding the nav bar more often. That's cool. I don't like Pie so it matters to me

No, CM is just clean Android. It is up to you whether you want that or not. I am really glad with CM running on my LG G2 (802). Really hate the LG bloatware (just like those apps delivered with Samsung phones ).

Oh yeh, cool, so i'd loose all the bloat and reclaim some of my storage.
But I may also loose IR initially, even though 4.4 supports it..it may take some fixing. But I don't use it anyway...hm..

Well, your LG ROM is about 1,5 GB, right? The CM ROMs are little over 220 MB. So that alone could be a reason to switch
I don't think stock is soo bad on this phone. If you're rooted you can remove the unnecessary apps that you don't use plus hide the nav bar until you choose to make it visible. I currently have the entire screen available on my G2 and love it.

Yeah, I can deal with pie but it's just too slow versus stock nav bars. When I play games however is the only time I activate PIE and hide the nav buttons, even though I'm using smaller than stock nav bars lol. Most of the time videos play full screen anyway.

Never Got 5.0, Still Says Up To Date After 5.1 Release :/

My SGP612, Z3 Tablet Compact from Japan(I think, via eBay) 32GB Wifi, has said that it's up to date via the "About Tablet" settings and the Sony software on Windows and Mac ever since I've had it. Never got the 5.0 Lollipop and now the 5.1 is being released and nothing. Is there something easy that I was supposed to do here or does anyone know any little tips or tricks for this? Thanks very much.
Up to date, 5.1 release is only for: Italy and Benelux regions, speaking of model 612.
But you can flash it manually as I did. Works perfectly, though my region is Central Europe.

Agreed we shouldn't have to but things don't always work out that way.
It is great that we have options and contributors such as @sebarkh to step in with advice that I would never figure out on my own.
I am in the UK and likewise watching out for the update. If it fails to materialise OTA then I am reassured that there is a manual solution. But so far I am very impressed by what Sony is doing both in terms of hardware offerings and ongoing software support. Samsung needs to take heed.

You're definitely right. I'll eventually stop being lazy and just do it myself for sure, just hoping I won't have to. I do really like what Sony is doing too. Hoping for a Z4/5 Ultra this year! Thanks for your help guys!
Luckily the 5.1 update came today for me over wifi, which was nice cause I didn't feel like using the desktop software. Looks great!
Just wondering if I am alone in waiting on the UK OTA update to 5.1.1?
If, for some reason, I have missed the boat then I shall follow sebarkh's advice and use XperiFirm. Otherwise I am happy to wait a while longer for Sony to get round to us.
Hi, I am now able to answer my own question. Yesterday Sony OTA upgraded my UK OS to v5.1.1
So I can defer rolling up my sleeves and getting my hands dirty and possibly voiding my warranty for a while. The need for Root is becoming quite pressing though.
Just stay on 4.4 because the 5.1.1 update sucks! There is no change regarding the throttling issue when brightness is above 50% or when you have automatic brightness activated so, the intermitent lag is stiil present.
Sent from my SGP611 using XDA Free mobile app
It solved all of the bugs that effected me though. :/
No throttling for me anymore on 5.1.1

Still no lollipop yet on most European simfree Alpha's.

Crappy support for the Simfree Galaxy Alpha is actually a blessing, I'm still on 4.4.4 & do not want 5.0.2.
3 of the 4 UK networks all have lollipop as do most other European carriers, but yet simfree in alot of European countries are still on 4.4.4 with the exception of a few that have lollipop like France ect.
Has Samsung finally realized how crap the 5.0.2 update is and decided to skip it and move onto 5.1.1 or even Marshmallow, or will we at some point also get 5.0.2 months after the carriers first got it?, because if so I would be pretty peeved off that being the case as we be stuck with it for a long time once again. :/
Belgium does not have lollipop either as they are using the Luxemburg - firmware which also doesn't have lollipop yet.
My guess is that the 5.0.2 rollout has stopped and we will see a 5.1.1 soon.
Sent from my SM-G850F using XDA Free mobile app
I'm starting to regret the decision I made when I bought the alpha. I thought this could be a "flagship-like" phone that would have immediate support from Samsung. Boy, I was wrong. Gave Android/Samsung another chance and I'm missing ios already. I'm hoping to get at least 5.1.1 or even 6xx here.
Is the "mobile radio active" bug active across every Lollipop device? Could it be corrected in 5.1.1 by Samsung engineers or only in Marshmallow? If we get 5.1.1 with the bug, will our phones die with it, since we might not get M? There are a lot of questions without answers and it seems that nobody wants to take a step forward and come clean about this.
The UK Simfree Alpha has had about 6 updates since it launched this time last year all based on 4.4.4, for a few months now it had nothing, I do hope they skip 5.0.2 & release 5.1.1 otherwise if 5.0.2 does come along then I'll be moving onto something else ie the new Nexus or even the iPhone 6S.
As for Marshmallow for the Alpha hmmmm talking well into next year before we see it, if at all.
I am willing to wait .....
I think it is version 5.0.2 of poor user experience, resulting Samsung had to choose to stop updating it ............
We look forward to the official version 5.1.1 coming on ALPHA, because to my current unofficial version ROM (5.1.1) experience is pleasant.

Are you referring to when you use Bluetooth headset to listen to the connection part of the music and ALPHA call it?
This part of the job situation is not satisfactory!
When listening to music is always off; when the call sound like a robot, accompanied by good times and bad delay ......
In addition, I am very satisfied with the overall performance in the ALPHA version 5.1.1! You should also try to look at.:good:
As for battery life performance, there are some better than version 4.4.4, let me spend a work day time feel.

There's an xposed module to fix it.
