can i unlock bootloader NOW?? 4/16/2014 - LG Optimus L9 P760, P765, P768, P769

i don't know why i can't unlock,I think L9 can't download token from lg??
OR Can unlock with boot.img backup from anyone unlocked bootloader??
sorry about my english

LG is notorious for removing fastboot, which is basically the way to access the bootloader, with an OTA update. Not only do they remove it, they encrypt the bootloader for good measure.

I'm still attempting this myself, current test involves proxying through Europe, thought maybe lg started filtering ip's from the us models running euro roms to prevent the token from unlocking it. No evidence of it but just a thought. I'm even seeing if a few of my coder friends can sift through the bootloader machine code after I disassembled it, but I wouldn't get your hopes up, machine code isn't exactly a specialty of theirs, wish I had that nice ida convert back to c option, c code would actually be useful in this situation.

Ah that's another form of proxying, right now I just am using proxydroid and a UK proxy server I found. I think the most interesting point made in the latest tutorial for this is that it says you must have WiFi and data on, but from what I saw, data disconnects when WiFi is connected I think. Idk, I'm trying it both ways. This whole process is a pita. And the people in the kfhd community think their bootloader exploiting process is hard...

I am currently in Europe with the P769, and I've tried unlocking, however, I don't believe the token gets sent when one is roaming (at least I was not able to get the unlock). Not sure, if I used the EU mirrored ROM, but I gave up after handling the glitchy screen for a while.
Let me know, if you make progress, and for confirmation purposes, I could try to sim-unlock my phone and flash EU rom and try again. Then it would not be roaming, so maybe it would work...

FYI, I already sim unlocked and used a prepaid sim from Puerto Rico. My friend from there let me use his sim to try and unlock the bootloader. It didn't work so there goes that idea.

Maybe my efforts to decompile the bootloader will get me somewhere. As is though I can only get machine code, I found a program I thought might do the trick that was just released recently called fracture but I guess a u-boot doesn't go with standard binary formats in terms of the header, or maybe its signature is getting in the way, Idk this is a bit above the kinda stuff I usually do. I might poke around and chat with some RC's about this.

[Q] Currently unlockable bootloaders

For us with currently unlockable bootloaders (branded phones), will removing the sim-lock give us the option to unlock the bootloader?
No
That was a definitive answer. Strange, cause I know people with unlockable bootloaders in their Arcs and Rays have managed to unlock them.

Slightly worried about getting the phone from Rogers here. Hopefully the Sony store will have a working unit so I can enter the command into the dialer to see if I can easily unlock it or not.

Currently there is no way to root without unlocking the bootloader, it will probably come at some point, but not now .
There is no drawback to unlocking your bootloader though, as they will still probably accept your device for warranty, unless you fry your phone with overclocking and such.
But yea, branded phones cant be unlocked at this moment, or well, they haven't figured it out yet. So if you are branded you can't even unlock your bootloader...yet . Give it time, everything will be figured out in time .

I am under the impression that selling it in the Canadian Sony store means it will not be branded for any carrier, since they'll be offering the phone unlocked. Probably even if they offer it on contract with a carrier like Rogers, it would still be unlocked, but just subsidized with your contract plan.
edit: They did say that the phone is exclusively with the Sony Store in Canada, so you can't get it straight from Rogers anyways, so no worries!
If there is brand in rogers, I am pretty sure they will lock the bootloader just like they did in xperia arc

Bought mine from the sony store locked to rogers. I can confirm that the bootloader are in fact locked. Bought mine at launch early tuesday morning.(12th)
They currently only sell XpS's locked to rogers. They unfortunately don't sell the unbranded version(/unlocked). They were also surprised by this fact apparently.
BTW the rogers bloatware that came with the device is annoying as hell. If you're going to buy on frim the Sony store in canada. Debranding would be the first thing I would suggest to do. Seeing as rooting or custom roming is out of the question.

Have to admit that i'm a little disappointed i got my phone as soon as it was released on my neywork.
That was before the information came to light, that branded fw's have their bootloaders locked.
Had i known that BEFORE i took the plunge, i would have upgraded via a third party mobile phone shop.
I am even more disappointed to see custom roms and tweaks coming out, only to find myself unable to go anywhere near them. Grrrr!
I have de-branded my Xps but i still have the bloat-crap on it. Which is now filling the ten whole spaces in my main menu.
I have been checking on here everyday hoping for a root solution and also on the omnius and setool sites but still i am without a solution :-( and my biggest concern of all is...
As most the devs and rom chefs have unlocked bootloaders, that means hardly anyone (if anyone) will be working on a solution. Double :-(

I hear you bro
Don't worry, it will come
I have faith in this community that something will be figured out. A few weeks ago it wasn't even possible to flash custom kernels and such, and they managed to figure it out. Now that things are flowing nicely, the rom developers have started working on making things again, and maybe there's more things being looked into in terms of rooting.
I've been here since my X1 and the community hasn't let me down yet, I'm confident they will find a way to get a root, and probably (given the speed even a tester CM9 came out) before ICS.
I guess you might have wait for those paid software like setool .... It will be like the same case like xperia arc. Rogers or any branded phone do not allow bootloader unlock.

Interesting... I'm a bit skeptical though...

Yeah, I can't take the plunge and use this phone as my daily driver. Not with Timescape (or whatever you call the Sony UI). I want to be able to use AOSP apps. What I hate is when the UI elements creep over when you're using an app (stuff like checkboxes) and it just makes the overall experience feel inconsistant.
I have since buying the phone debranded it and flashed the singpore rom, and it does a good job at eliminating bloatware, but I want to go in deeper and install CM9 whenever that's ready.
The phone does have what looks like the test point connections, I wanted to mess around with them but I didn't have the proper screws to remove the battery cover. Anyone know what the size of the screws are so I can get a screwdriver that fits?

If you could have done the test point process, I'm sure it would already be posted here. It's quite possible there will be some type of testpoint exploit in the future.. But as of now not the case. I wouldnt suggest messing around inside your phone unless your ready to void your warrenty and at least somewhat know what your doing.
Who knows you could be some secret dev-ninja-genius. ...but then again your asking about screwdriver sizes instead of just eyeballing it like most people would do, so I very much doubt that bro.

I know you were just trying to be mindfull of what happens to my phone and stuff, but if I "eyeballed" the size what good would it do if I don't have a small enough bit to fit the screw? I was able to remove the frearson screws but am missing the torx.
A test point method is still possible (maybe) but the reason that there are no posts about it is that the software used (Omnius, SEtools, etc) is not yet compatible with the XS.
Im toooo interested too, my phone has bootloader blocked for my phone company, so I cant get root or do anything
Im waiting, I hope too much they find a solution soon !

One GOOD thing about a locked bootloader...

So many people complaining about locked bootloader and how it basically sucks, i have a counter to that, be it ever so small.

You can track your tablet with the serial, meaning that no matter if they wipe it, if they reinstall it, or if they reset it, it should still show up! I just found this out a few days ago and figured i'd share. Gives me a little peace of mind when i take this thing to school if it gets lost or stolen i can still find it again.
Feel free to discuss but please no flaming. Lets keep it civil

So, it's either keep within the locked environment and deal with Asus's idea of timely updates (hint, they're not) or nuke the warranty and get a vastly better experience with AOKP, EOS or Virtuous.
Not a hard decision at this time sadly.

Agreed! I found the OTAs caused more problems than they solved. By the time I was running .21 my prime was practically unusable given the browser freezes and crashes. It lasted about 2 days before I unlocked. Unlocking and getting rid of stock was the best decision that I made in regards to this thing.

Lol, I have yet to get this thing to actually work. I just use Prey or whatever it's called, doesn't actively start running until you tell it to unless I'm mistaken.
Wait, I have an unlocked bootloader on my Prime, and the device tracker was able to locate it, once I connected it to WiFi network. Even the remote ring worked. (Message and contacts lookup says that it only works on 3G models). I did not test the remote wipe or lock for obvious reasons.
I'm running rooted stock .21 ROM.
I use gotya too .... takes a pic of the person unlocking the screen and emails me the pic along with their location ..... but i guess there are pros and cons for locked and unlocked bootloaders ...... i had my prime for a day did the .21 update then decided to root.... man was that a lot of work but it was worth it in my opinion

Of course the location software worked: you are using an ASUS rom that comes with the tracking software thoughtfully included . It has nothing to do with whether you are unlocked or not. I am running a non-ASUS rom - the tracking website doesn't work with my prime.

Thats my point... the thread title says "One good thing about a locked bootloader". The device tracker is not disabled by just unlocking the boot loader. Flashing the rom to a custom rom would. (Granted, the most likely reason for unlocking the bootloader would be for flashing to a custom rom.)

Just change title of thread from "locked bootloader" to "stock firmware w/ locked bootloader".
You know, I do have a Windows Home Server, is there a version of this I can use from home without a complicated setup?
Actually, my device was located within a fairly small area using just WiFi locations. Not small enough to nab anyone who had my Prime, but at lease it would tell me its still in the neighborhood. Besides, GPS would not work indoors anyway, even with the dongle.

I'm still amazed anyone can use it :/ I just get some "command failed" error every time I try to add my Prime's serial number to the Device Tracker. Fails every time, lower case, upper case, even started swapping 0's and O's even though I know the correct placement.
I've pretty much given up on anything with ASUS being quite right, and definitely don't expect much of whoever upkeeps their website and services. I also just submitted an RMA early this week and have not heard a word from anyone lol, I can only assume this will be fun.

[Q] Interesting Photon Perk

Sorry if this has already been covered, but the only thread I could find on point was in the archive.
I recently bought a Photon for Sprint on ebay with the idea of reselling it. The phone was running 2.35 and I used Photon-torpedo to root it, which worked just fine. Today, on a whim, I popped my sim chip from my AT&T Atrix 4g into it, to see if it would work. It did. And, with a little bit of tweaking of the settings, I was able to get 4g data to run. (I set Network Mode to "Automatic", and enabled the checkbox to Allow GSM was all). Then, to take it further, I was able to start Mobile Hotspot, which I'd had to "disable" the device check on line 118 in my Atrix to get to do the same thing.
So, my question is a little noobish: Is my Photon carrier unlocked somehow, perhaps by Photon-Torpedo? Am I going to get slammed by AT&T for some sort of bizarre roaming charge? Anyone know why this worked?
nice, what baseband does it have and does it say unlock when you first boot up phone?
Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk 2
I don't think its unlocked as it doesn't say unlocked when it boots up and behaves like it still thinks its a Sprint phone. Google Play store also treats it as a Sprint phone. The baseband is n_01.29.08_GSM

No, I am not outside the US. I am in Seattle, and we have nost of the big carriers here, (Sprint, Verizon, AT&T), so it is as much a surprise to me as to you.
I've been using this phone for about 3 days now on AT&T, and it's been working as well as my Atrix 4g by all appearances.

i'm 2 hours away from you haha. small world. well your baseband is very unusual! so i think you may have a special phone on your hands that some devs would love to have. i do have a couple questions. where did the phone come from? someone inside the US? if it came from another non-US carrier it would make sense. as a japanese version known as KDDI has the same phone but unlocked GSM for the US. perhaps you can pull me the build.prop file from the system folder and post on here as a zip or text file. (otherwise xda won't allow the upload) then we can see just a little more info on the device and what carrier it might have come from originally.
you're baseband is unique. photons latest baseband is n_01.28.07r. previous ones have been N_01.28.0Xs.fk, X=random character
This phone was a eBay purchase and sent from Fort Lauderdale Florida. It was listed as a Sprint phone, and the only information that was in the ebay listing was that she had changed carriers after having it for 6 months and had to get another phone. I will post the build prop late tonight when I have more time.

you can use bootstrap here,
http://files.acsyndicate.net/pub/users/Steve/MOTODX2_Bootstrap_signed.apk
or you can use the one listed in the previous post. or you can unlock and install a custom recovery. however i'd be careful with unlocking because flashing the wrong thing can put your phone back to a standard photon with locked GSM making it somewhat unusable for GSM again. so i wouldn't recommend an unlock at this time.
top tip: don't flash an SBF file whatever you do!
installing and using bootstrap:
Installation:
Download the recovery file
Mount your device to USB
Put the .apk on your device
Unplug your device
Navigate to the file explorer, install “Bootstrap_signed.apk”
When the installation completes, run the application
Click “Install Recovery”
Accept the Superuser request
Click “Install Recovery” again for good measure
After success, plug your Photon 4G into the wall adapter
Verify that your phone is charging from the wall
Press “Recovery Mode”
Your device will now slowly reboot into Tenfar’s CWM Recovery
*note: you do need to have your phone plugged in to get into "recovery" mode.
then do a backup

The last I heard about that was in halfevildruids thread. Na7q posted a CWM flashable zip based on the magical photon. You can find the post here
As far as I know, this hasn't worked for any other phone, (the Magical Photon seems to be completely unique). I think halfevildruid also opined that there could be a binary switch in the magical photon that might be found, but as far as I know nobody is working on it.
What would be really nice to have is the Magical Photon's radio. Unfortunately, its not that easy to get. The plan is to extract it when a new OTA update comes out. But unless a new method surfaces to extract the radio, we'll have to wait for that.
In the meantime, I'm keeping the Magical Photon as close to "pure to stock" as I can to give the devs here the best material to work with if it's ever needed.
Hope that answers your questions.

The ota would need to be GSM capable to have what we are looking for.
If you guys get me the stock locked and the magical one's nv dump I will start going through it. I have the 2.3.5 leak and kddi dumps again. If its in the nvm I will find it if I can get hold of that phone. If not I can scan for differences between the two nvf's. I am busy opening a wireless repair shop to open in 2 weeks so I am not doing a lot until that is open.

$100 towards getting you that phone
or
$200 and I'm done deving/hosting this year
or
trade+$ (if JohnH4 will go for it) and you walk me through the nv dump (until we get 2.3.5 unlock this will kill both my atrix and photon deving til that time)
I'll match your 100 or offer up a shiny white 1 month new white HTC vivid straight across if john is interested in an at&t phone. No ones got a chance of getting their paws on my one x though.

If anyone can tell me the location of the nvm file, I would be glad to pull it. Will the pull command in adb do the trick?

Nope, best thing you can do is ask your carrier :good:

I have the same problem, I purchased a code on eBay from this seller and it wouldn't unlock! This is really a pain. Has anyone had luck at all unlocking? I realized after there were so many videos of the problems on YouTube.
Has anyone had any success unlocking the Fido Xperia U?

What carrier was your Xperia P originally locked to? I really like this phone, but I feel like I'm throwing money down the drain to attempt to get it to work on my main carrier. But if it works I guess I'll be happy...
I used the same site to unlock my xperia U, it took alomost a week but the code worked.
Mine was locked to Orange UK and I'm in Bulgaria.
Hope you succseed because it's a pain in the a**.

Did you try various sites before that one worked? I looked up the 4SE method, that apparently works too using a program but the signature server hsa been down for 3 months now! So even if you have the credits it wouldn't work.

I hope it'll work, I asked them and they promised a refund if it doesn't. It's a pity I'll have to sell this phone if it still doesn't work.
Thanks for the reply.

no I didn't try any other, sent several mails and made some registrations but didn't buy from them (some replied simply that they couldn't do it), I searched and even posted a thread to ask if people found a sure site, but without any luck. Then I found this thread and in it there are several sites/ebay sellers that were reported working for the ION with SEcodes the latest, so I wrote them an email because I wanted other codes as well (got response in less than 5 min) they told me to wait about a week and I got them six days later. Was worried because I read the whole site and their return policy wasn't clear. It turned out that my order was number 30 something so i hoped it wasn't a scam and my hopes came through
I read that the method with the sever even unlocked some bootloaders, which is a big plus and was cheaper but no luck with that.
as advice if you worry to much and have a camera or a phone that could make a good video, you could record the first time you enter the code (IMEI and service menu visible) so if it doesn't work you shouldn't need to do it again for proof if they want video and decrease the number of the counter

Thanks st3ch.
I just ordered from Sonyericssoncodes, got my fingers crossed, I hope it'll work. It does sound like Sony has some of the worst locking.
Still waiting for the code from Sonyericssoncodes, originally he said it'd be available today, but prob not until next week.
Hopeful it'll work, my other phone (Nexus S) just died yesterday after I was messing around with the USB port that wouldn't charge properly. Bad timing, though I knew it was coming!
Update: unlock code from sonyericssoncodes.com for my Xperia U was successful!

No it didn't, only SIM unlock. Oh well, I'm tired of playing with ROMs at the moment anyways. I guess to unlock bootloader you need another code?
not yet,
it's just an announcement only, not release

Bootloader unlock

I see from reading the XDA news articles that Verizon is now allowing the Sony Xperia Play to be unlocked now that is is a discontinued phone. I wonder if there's a chance that Big Red MIGHT allow our phones (and other disco'd phones) to be unlocked.
I don't know if they will go for this but it's worth a shot.
I doubt it. I dont even thing the phone is discontinued yet. I believe I still saw it in the Verizon store last weekend.
EDIT: Although, I dont see it on their website anymore.

Do you think that moto will do that?
They are lots of their phones discontinued and nothing happens, anyway it seems to be that development was gone because of locked boot.
Therr are not many things we can do now!

severely doubt it they have no reason to when they can make so much money off of new phones. why bother doing anything for old and discontinued phones the only reason that verizon would allow a phone to have an unlockable boot loader is that they cant make money off it and the device manufacturer has bugged the hell out of them to let it happen.
So, there's ANYTHING you can do with the phone once the bootloader is on?
I'm from Venezuela (sorry for the crappy english, trying my best here) and I buy a Unlock Droid x2, and trying up upgrading the Android to something more newer than 2.3.4 the bootloader lock. I was using it for a few days in WIFI with Whatsapp, Skype and Line. Now I can't find ANYTHING on how to bypass that lock.
I just lost my money? In a country with a monetary barricade like this, it's kinda a downer know I just waste 180 bucks just because I try (and fail) upgrade my phone.
I was reading around and find sites that will give you and "unlock" number based on you MEID, is that even work? I'll pay to have my phone unlock, if come to that, but I want to know I can at least do something!
I must add; I just want to be able to enter to the google play, install whatsapp, etc. I DONT WANT ANOTHER CDMA NETWORK ON THE PHONE.
I buy the phone with those opcions; I don't care if I cant send normal txt msjs, if I can at least use the phone!
all you can do in bootloader is flash .sbf recovery files
which model do you have, label under battery says MB870?

Id love to have my DX2 umlocked... if it was I could use it as a bluetooth audio streamer for example... now it is so bugy it cant do much
Is there a formal request form we can send verizon to free our old devices from bootloader lockdown?
