[Q] Sd Card write Protection - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

So I recently. Picked up my Ultra and im in dire need of a app or utility for android that. Can format a micro SD. My previous phone. Somehow write protected my card when upgrading to 4.4. I do not have a pc accessible. Cwm cannot format It nor can. I format it through. Androids built in format tool under my settings.

Install SDfix from the Play Store and run it (root required). Then try to format it again by using Androids own tool. If it still doesn't work, search the Play Store for "sd format" or something.

did you really just say that? just return the phone and go buy an iphone then...
if you're so inclined to keep the phone, try searching an app called FolderMount...

UM lets see maybe because i came from a iphone already. The whole purpose of extra storage is to use it. Im aware you can use it for music and videos. It was a simple question because i havent had a android for years and before you were able to install apps straight to the SD Card.
You can't actually install the apps to the external SD card, but with the previously mentioned Filemount you can move the large data files to the SD card. the 9 gigs you have available will go quite a while with media files on the external SD card.

Yes. Also don't hold your breath on the installing apps to SD card thing.
Install your game, use FolderMount to simlink the folders to the SDcard. it will trick the phone into thinking the files are still on internal memory when they really are on the sdcard. only thing is you need root

if i root it will i loose the touch wiz that came with samsung galaxy s4? cause i saw thishttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2290798 on the forum and dont want it changing and slowing my S4 down.
not sure what you mean "lose the touchwiz" but no you wont lose anything. you will only gain abilities. there is no getting rid of the touchwiz UI unless you flash a custom AOSP rom which hasnt happened yet

i know exactly the problem you're having because i ran into this when using parallels. unplug the phone, plug it back in and it will pop up which system u want to use that device on, make sure u click windows. hopefully when it originally came up and u selected mac that it didnt save the choice because i dont know how to reset that. if it doesnt pop up with that window, try restarting the windows virtual machine

good to hear! i would definitely look into titanium backup. i know its like 5 bucks or whatever but the best app around. it will let u freeze those bloatware apps and help speed the phone up. i would check out each S4 forum (Tmobile, AT&T, sprint, and the general one) and look through those "Apps to have threads"
root explorer is another great app to have
Not gonna work with the fat32 formatted sd cards we have. Or at least no one on the forum has gotten it to work. The fat32 file system doesn't support symlinks. There are work arounds but.......

I won't deny that it works for you but I know for fact it doesn't work for me and many many other people. U can read these forums and Google it and there are issues. For me it creates a dir on my sd card but it's just a mirror of the original dir on the phone. So it actually doesn't save space. Has anyone else got foldermount to work and can verify it's not just mirroring the original dir? I'm using the SanDisk 64gig card from amazon.

Help with sd card

I own a Sprint Sgs3 rooted. A while back I was running a 4.2 rom, I believe liquid smooth. From that I did a clean install and switched to a 4.3 rom to try it out. When it got to the home screen it said my SD card may be corrupted and asked me to format. I hit yes and nothing seemed to happen but I no longer got the error. I switched back to a 4.2 rom and it says my internal memory is 95% full and my SD card has 16 gb free. Before this happened it was split between the two so internal wasn't nearly as full. How do I get it back like that?

[Q] Move to SD option in App Manager

I have a D618 (4GB internal), and I noticed that there is a "Move to SD" option in the app manager, I tried it, but the app data is still in the internal memory.
And I heard that Kitkat devices have write issues with the SD card, and there is an app for fixing that, but I haven't tried it since my phone is not yet rooted.
Anyone here who has a rooted phone want to try?
Thanks
Move to SD only moves part of the apk file not app data.
It's not affected by the kitkat write issue.
My idea
Use GL to SD. For this you MUST HAVE ROOT. I root my G2 Mini just for it.

Thanks mate, worked for me
If you create a ext4 partition on your sdcard, there's multiple guides online for this. Then root your device and download link2sd, your able to move all apps, cache from apps and etc to the sdcard

Spoiler Alert!
Spoiler
Once my phone gets back from service, I will try to make a script which will mount /data/app/ and /data/dalvik-cache/ to a second partition on the SD.

[Q] Lollipop 14.5.A.0.242 sd card write permission need root?

Hi all,
As to this stock lollipop firmware from Sony, have they allowed apps to write to sd card without root?
If not, I will stick to stock android 4.3.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers.

i tried this lollipop its not working moving to sdcard.
im searching lollipop root for sony z ultra but dont have im deleted lollipop i hate this.
Because we cant moving apps to sdcard.
I had no problems moving apps to sd... You are doing it wrong... No root necessary
I am still on 4.4.4 with root and LB as I dont want to upgrade to lollipop and lose root+x reality. The update detail says "move apps to sd card" so I guess we can only move apps.
Yes, I believe you can move some apps to SD card ? . I believe it mentions this on Sony Xperia™ support site.

You can move apps to SD cards. But they don't support to write access to SD cards for files . Using third party apps.

So it still has the same problem as 4.4, damn it, why would they do that... I guess I'll wait for an easy and tested root method before upgrading then.

this is true. although some apps have workarounds (ex. x-plore), a lot of apps still can't write to sd with lollipop 5.0.2 on xperia.

Install apps directly to microSD card

Hi guys.
I've just unlocked bootloader and afterwards rooted my phone.
Now I would like to be able install apps from google play directly to microSD card.
Will it affect anything? Apps could have some troubles with working?
I will be glad to hear your opinions.
Cheers.
Hello there. Yes I managed to do that with Link2sd but some apps won't work if they are installed on the SD ( whatsapp, Facebook) other work like they are intended to.

no, linked2sd moves the app files to a partition on your sd card, you need a fast card or you'll run in serious app lags and slow performance
I did everything from that thread.
