i have the sgp 311 and when i looked into my service center,my tab said that the bootloader could be unlocked.
Does this mean if i do it my drm keys will be restored when i use the rom i could download using the EMMA software or are they gone 4-ever?
Gone 4 ever...

Backup your TA partition and you'll be fine. Restoring it later will be as if you never unlocked bootloader.

Hi guys,
I have searched the forums for the answer to this but without success.
I bought my Z ultra (C6802) a few months ago. Rooted it using Kingo and updated to 14.1.B.2.257 and everything was fine so I was happy. My Bootloader is still locked however I have root.
Now a few weeks back I've seen an OTA flash up offering the 14.2.A.0.290 (4.3) update. I finally decided I'd go with the OTA update, however after trying to let it do its thing, it doesn't upgrade properly and after rebooting etc gives me an error saying "Could not install new software update. Try again."
I have tried a couple of things to get this working:
1. Tried clearing the data for update centre and redownloading.
2. Tried temp unrooting using OTA rootkeeper.
Neither of these make any difference.
I think after rooting that I uninstalled a couple of default Sony apps that were no longer needed (very carefully). Could this be the reason for the OTA failing?
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
You have to update using PC Companion. You'll lose root though, but you'd lose that either way, so just update through PCC and root it again.

before updating back up the TA partition
as @LordManhattan said you will lose root though. if you want to keep a locked BL you cant get root using the PCC way, you have to flash FTFs and recoveries etc, see the thread in the general section for locked BL
YES. Backup your TA partition!
Ok thanks for the responses guys. I've already backed up my TA partition before, but will try flashing using PC companion later.

is there any way to return the Z2 Tablet SGP561 (Verizon edition) back to complete factory condition with PC Companion, FlashTool, XperiFirm, or other? the bootloader is still not unlockable on the VZW model as far as i am aware and i can't find any FTF for this model.
i am currently on 4.4.2 with root and NUT's dual recovery and have backed up my DRM keys. there are conflicting reports of being able to maintain root with the OTA to 4.4.4, so before trying I'd like to know how i could return to the current setup if it fails.
thanks

I would love to know this also. I am in the same boat. FlashTool wont let me. I deleted the files to remove Dual Recovery but updates are still failing with code 402 and i can not find anything about it.

I am having the same issue. Sony pc companion doesn't work and after deleting the dual recover files from post I'm getting random Fc and no more read write in system files. Also I have done factory reset and still having issues.

Hi i successfully rooted and backuped my TA, thanks to the guide written here. Unfortunately, the ending FW was for Z3 which really wasn't functional for my SGP621. I cannot revert to stock without losing root because it would overwrite kernel and system of the rooted FW now. My question is, is there a rooted stock kernel for unlocked BL where we can restore our DRM partitions and also maintain root at the same time?

Mate, follow the instructions on this link and you can have a rooted stock rom with TA restored no problem.
To gain read/write you'll need to run this script. No need to follow all the instructions there, allow usb debugging and run the bat file.

Hello, my D6503 is getting pretty old right now, so I decided to install some custom soft on it. I need to unlock my bootloader, so I read a lot about that DRM Keys and backuping TA. Now I have 23.4.A.1.232 and I'm going to downgrade it to 17.1.2.A.0.314 which is rootable. The question is: Can I do the backup of TA Partition on 4.4.2 (17.1.2.A.0.314) and potentially restore it on 5.1 or newer? Or do I have to upgrade rooted 4.4.2 to rooted 5.1 and then do the TA backup to avoid version-conflict?
Thank you in advance!
Ta backup of 4.4.2 would work fine bt still for extra safety backup the TA on 5.1
I have restored ta backups on both KK and LP versions (while the backup itself is taken on KK) without any problems.
The android version shouldn't matter
Hello first xperia device and its very nice. I unlocked bootloader and rooted but decided to go back to stock as there isn't any custom roms out here. After reverting using flashtool AND companion i checked DRM keys and it looks like they are back (Active). My question is how will i Find out for sure?
