Must retain DATA in ROM flash - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've bought a software and the stupid company has a policy that if you do a factory reset you loose access to the paid program. simple as that. I have argued that it makes no sense, since its the same phone, same imei, same number, just did a system uprade but they refuse to help. I did a nandroid backup, so what I want to ask is: is it possible to retain DATA after flashing a newer ROM over the original? so that the program would recognize the phone as the same and don't lock?

[Q] Is it possible for me to create a complete backup without rooting my Tab?

So far I haven't found an exact rom/firmware to match the one on my UK Wifi Tab, the serial numbers differ slightly.
I'd like to find out if it's possible for me to make my own complete backup image, one that can be used if need be to put the Tab back to how it was out of the box. I'd do a factory reset before making the backup.
Is such a thing possible without having to root my device and without having CWM? Could it be done with ADB (not that I have a clue how to use it).
If it is possible, would someone be kind enough to tell me how it's done?
Many thanks.

Nope, not possible without root. With root, however, you can reset the device to factory. Is there a specific reason you don't want to root?
Thanks for the reply.
I do intend rooting the device at some point, but I've been putting it off until I can get hold off (or create) a rom that matches the one on my Tab right now. I see that samfirmware have a Euro rom, but it appears slighly different to what I have on my device.
I'm just trying to avoid the possibility of ending up with a non standard rom for my device, which might prevent me receiving future updates, or even from returning it if a warranty claim arises.
My HTC Desire is using a custom rom, but I have the security of having the original RUU that I can run to get my phone back to stock, I was hoping for something similar for the Tab.

[Q] Why can't I clone my phone and...

As I was looking into a new phone and whether I'll be able to root/unroot it, I began to wonder...
Why can an Android phone not be cloned over usb so that it can be restored to it's original state at a later time? In other words, why do we have to wait for certain files/collections of files to be released or leaked in order to successfully unroot or de-brick our phones?
What is it about a phone that makes this different from, say, a desktop where you could clone your hard drive, and if you ever royally mucked up your system, you could simply swap out hard drives in order to restore the system to a previous state?
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Are you talking about it being backed up? - Which would be a nandroid backup which is possible via recovery.
First, sorry for posting in the wrong place.
Second, no, I'm familiar with nandroid backups. I use them regularly. But even with a nandroid, you can "brick" your phone. Why is that?
For instance, barring mechanical failure, on a desktop you can wipe your hard drive, put a cloned system back on it, boot up your system, and proceed like nothing happened. No bricking.

IMEI Missing & no EFS backup

Hi all,
I recently lost my IMEI number (I do not know how, I did not install any weird apps).
The IMEI number says unknown, the network does not work.
Some things to note:
I am not rooted, never have
Using official FW 2.3.3
Never made EFS backup
Have original box (with IMEI number might help?)
Did not install any malcious application
I have read that if I root the device and try the GSII_repair it MIGHT fix, but I don't want to run into more trouble having to result in a BRICK or anything.
Is there any way to restore the EFS thing without having to resort to Samsung?
Solution?
You might need to root your phone.
Since it only needs a new IMEI number you could backup all of your apps and settings and reflash the same firmware and finally restore apps.
This will almost likely require you to root

I tried rooting the phone,
I tried the GSII_Repair, no luck.
Any hope?
Without a backup, no. If you've never messed with the phone (not rooted/not run non-stock firmware) & you bought the phone new, your warranty should be good. If so, use it. If not, it's either pay Samsung/authorised repairer to fix it, or ask local mobile repair shops. You may get lucky.

[Q] [Explanation needed] Where is SIM-Unlock info stored in the phone?

Hello,
Last month, I have suceesfully unlocked my LG P500 for the low price of 11$.
I was a little confused and the guy who sent me my unlock code helped me a bit, since it was the first time I did it.
Needed to go back to Stock, then unlock. Then I successfully restored my Nandroid backup to go back to CM7, when the IT guy confirmed me the the SIM-Unlock is definitely ROM independant.
It did worked, but I don't understand that point, about unlocking;
The phone HAS to store in one of his partitions, the fact that network is unlocked. But where is this stored? The fact that I've restored a CM7 Nandroid backup (Backup taken when phone was still carrier-locked), and unlock was not lost, I have trouble with understanding that.
So the file, code part or anything, that says the phone is locked, where is it? Obviously it's not in the ROM, /System, cannot be either in the bootloader /Boot. Neither it can be in the SIM itself or SD card (Which would absolutely make no sense), but it has to be stored SOMEWHERE. I'm confused.
Where is this information stored, in my LG P500 ? It seems definitely impossible to overwrite that partition with a TWRP restore, it doesn't seem to offer write to that partition, whatever partition it is (Would like to know that).
Which would also make sense - read that if unlocking was ROM dependent, anyone could restore a Nandroid backup that someone already unlocked, and unlock their own phone that way.
Where is that unlock information stored in the phone, and in what type? In LG phones? What about Samsung (For my knowledge, Samsung Galaxy S2 X, SGH-T989D ?) ? For Samsung, is this the same partition where the IMEI is stored (/EFS? No such partition exists on my LG P500, I think) ?
Thank you very much, I would like to understand that point.

Lost IMEI,no backup

Ended up flashing the rooted tot file I already had but now my imei is gone . What can I do? My imei on Verizon was bad so I just want to restore the BAD one (not change it for illegal reasons) so I can at least have it working on Straight talk again. Again I'm trying to restore the BAD one not a new or different one.
We can't discuss IMEI changing because it can be used for illegal purposes. Even if you wanted to change it back to original that procedure could be used to change it to something else
You can use a crow-bar to commit a crime too, or even a car. Just because someone can use something for illegal reasons doesn't mean they will. Try this Xposed module: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vivek.imeichanger&hl=en
I do not know if this works on LG phones, but Samsung had a command on one of their devices I owned previously that I had lost the IMEI due to a bad flash.
The command I ran was "nvram reboot restore" or "nvram restore reboot" through terminal or adb. This will possibly, if LG has the same thought, restore the IMEI to the original (BAD) state.
I can't guarantee this will work, or that it might make it a fancy paper weight so run this at your own risk.
