[Q] Flash ROM without root or download mode? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a phone which due to some perhaps corrupted bootloader or recovery cannot enter download mode. It is not rooted.
Is there any way to flash a ROM, be it stock or custom, without the phone being either rooted or without entering download mode? I can enter the recovery, so I'm hoping that there is a way to use an update.zip from there to fix my problem
The phone is a I9300T.
I have previous posted about this, describing this problem here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/flashing-4-3-breaks-download-mode-t2749590

Root it via framaroot and download rom manager (avaible in play store). Now you can flash a custom recovery and switch roms. Probably triangle away can help or destroys your device completly. Havent you warranty?

Bad advice! HOW MANY TIMES... NEVER USE ROM MANAGER WITH SAMMY PHONE'S. Ever!! Read about what can go wrong.

I strongly, strongly recommend you to send it to warranty before you ROM or root it.

Problem is, the ROM counter is at 3, and they'll likely refuse warranty on the pretext that I broke it my custom ROMing it.
Is Framaroot a good idea?

Try root it from framaroot, if framaroot doesn't work, try to get in download mode and use odin with CF-AutoRoot package for I9300T and get "Rashr" from the play store, flash recovery, (CWM)

[Q] I9300 root pass but no superuser and no CWM

hello. i have a problem regarding my galaxy i9300. before this, i already rooted my device but i unroot it again and install stock rom because
i think it is more stable. but now, i want to play heavy game and need to use chainfire3D and i want to root again.
my problem is, i follow all the step to root using cf-root and odin. the odin said it pass. but when my device reboot, i cant find
superuser and there is no CWM. then i try to check my device at about phone, it said already MODIFIED. but when i tried to instal any app that
need root, it cant be open because it says it is not root yet.
help.. i just dont know how to fix this. if i want to flash stock rom, the binary counter must be 0, and need to instal triangleaway but also need root access.
sorry for my bad english.
Same problem
I have also found that I have the same problem. Following a successful root and install of CWM prior to installing the OTA XXDLI8 jelly bean firmware I can now no longer root or install CWM, despite odin reporting a 'pass'. I have tried several versions of CF-Root-SG3 - versions 6.0 and 6.4 without success. I cannot find any other reports of this problem. What am I missing? The phone otherwise works perfectly.

Hi
I guess you have to do it manually. All you have to do is to follow these steps here: http://mobilecon.info/install-clockworkmod-recovery-and-root-samsung-galaxy-s3.html
and you should have CWM working on your recovery
I hope this helps! cheers!
i already do this but still nothing change. but actualy this problem already solved. this problem occur maybe because i update the stock rom .maybe they put something inside the update file so that we cant flash a cf-root file.
i just flash the stock rom back although the binary counter is not 0. then a lot of thing will be unstable (maybe because of the update). then after flash stock rom via odin, i flash the cf-root. then i got all the SU and CWM. now i can flash all the custom rom.
by the way, thanks..

[Q] Can't re-root after flashing stock ROM [XXEMC2]

Hello all,
About a week ago I ran into a problem with my phone which I thought was a software, which actually turned out to be a hardware issue with my sim card. Cutting a long story short, I flashed the official stock rom with Odin V1.85, and it passed and everything was back to default factory settings.
Having now got my issue fixed, I wanted to re-root my phone, in order to go back to the old ROM I was using [UltimaROM v12]. However after flashing various versions of CWM I cannot get my phone to root. I'm no stranger using Odin, I can usually install a new version of CWM in 30 seconds, but my phone is persistent on not rooting. I can't work out if maybe I've done something wrong, but it doesn't seem to be working.
I've tried running as Admin on W7, but it doesn't make a difference, I'd appreciate if one of you guys could help, as I used the search bar before, but it seems no-one has had this problem before.
Modem: XXEMC2
Kernel: Stock
ROM: Stock
Use TWRP or Philz recovery .

I've tried those too, they don't work either.

The problem is the recoveries will look as if they've installed fine through Odin getting a "passed" flag, but when I go to recovery it's still the default Android recovery. Therefore no root.
What root method are you using?
Chainfire one I believe. You basically install CWM recovery, then install SuperSU from .zip in CWM.
So you have rooted but can't install recovery?
Just flash one with mobile Odin,
Nope, no root yet, because I can't flash SuperSU.zip 'cause I'm still on the default recovery.
Just use the old cf root then update the recovery or use framaroot and flash recovery with mobile Odin
cf-root roots the phone as well as changes the stock recovery to cwm recovery! is this the exact one you flashed? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695238

[Q] My Grand Quattro is stuck at logo screen. What to do?

Hi.
First of all, I want to thank all the users of this forum, I found many helpful things and you're amazing.
Second, my english is a little bad, so I apologize for any mistake.
Now, the problem:
I have a rooted Grand Quattro that is stuck at the logo screen (the one that shows name and model of device). I can't boot to recovery mode, only to download mode. How can I make the phone start again? I have a backup of ROM that I've made with CWM, but I can't access CWM to restore, and can't reflash CWM (device says "signature verification failed" after every attempt with Odin 3.07).
I need help, I've searched through these foruns and another places, but couldn't find a suitable answer.
Thanks for attention
Flash Fresh ROM again via odin
BTW which rooting method did you use? There are better and easy methods. Use Kingo App to root the phone.
Try flashing the stock rom again via odin while in download mode ofcourse. Because you are able to do to download mode. Right?
Then download kingo app and root your phone. Don't use cwm method unless you want to flash any other script or custom rom in your phone.
Also uninstall USB drivers and install it again.
Let me know if some new problem arises. :fingers-crossed:
Cheers :good:
Thanks for response.
I flashed the stock rom and it worked again (and I didn't lost programs and personal files )
I opened this thread because I couldn't download the stock rom from Terafile, but I managed to download and install after some time.
About your question: I rooted with Kingo app, but I was trying to install CWM, and I read in a random place that I need to chroot the install-recovery.sh. I think this messed with the phone.
Well, I recovered the device and rooted again, so thanks for helping

Where did you get the stock rom? And flash it with odin?
Download it on http://sammobile.com and flash it with Odin.
This is great platform to resolve all kinds of rooting issues....
Stock ROMs of almost all versions are available on xda itself and all over the internet......

[Q] Getting CWM Recovery without Odin

Hi all,
I recently got my stock I9100 from 4.1.2 to 4.4.2 by flashing CWM Recovery with ODIN and then installing CyanogenMod. It's all working great and is so much faster and more stable than 4.1.2 has ever been.
Now I need to do the same for my partner's phone, also an I9100 on 4.1.2, as it has slowed to a crawl with constantly unresponsive buttons. Unfortunately the usb port is completely dead so ODIN is not an option. I've tried doing some research here and found Framaroot as an option for rooting but I couldn't find any clear answers on how to install CWM Recovery without flashing via ODIN. Could anyone link me to a thread or explain the best option for getting CWM Recovery on a phone without a usb port?
Many thanks.
(Disclaimer: I know messing with a phone that has no usb port is incredibly risky because it will be impossible to fix if bricked but she's planning on getting a new phone next week if this one is still as unresponsive and crash-prone as it is right now so it's not the end of the world if it dies!)

Since now you have root support, you could try using mobile odin or cwm manager to installer a custom recovery on your phone.

Thanks for the reply. I've looked into mobile odin now and from what I've read am I right in thinking that the process would be: Root -> mobile odin + flashkernel -> install cfroot with mobile odin?
edit: Would Flashify be a better option? I can't find a list of supported devices though.

I think using CWM manager will be the easiest option. Unless you also want to use a custom kernel, use CWM manager.

Will CWM Manager still work without a new kernel? This post says without a custom kernel with recovery it will lose it when I turn the phone off?

They are saying it is better to use a custom or stock kernel that has a built in custom recovery (which is very true). You can use Philz recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...lz-cwm6-stock-kernel-cwm6-root-exfat-t1877270 and use mobile odin to flash the tar.md5 file as the PDA.

Android logo is lying down with a triangle and an exclamation mark in stock recovery

Hi Folks,
I have flashed stock recovery and stock ROM 4.3 in my Galaxy S3 I9300 from Samsung service center recently.
In the android recovery, I could notice that the android logo is lying down with a triangle and an exclamation mark. I have searched thru the forum but did not get the actual reason. Some say it is not an issue but some say that CSC is not proper. Please help me understand the causes for this.
I am planning to flash a custom recovery and ROM. Is there any risk here in this case?.
Attached is the image for reference.

I don't know too but i think it's for the root.Normally there are no risk to flash custom rom because the recovery will don't give you this error.
This thread mentions this screen as an error, so you might have missed something during your flashing. You could try to flash the stock recovery again.
If you did not flash back to stock ROM to give it to warranty, you could also flash TWRP or Philz Touch.
Otherwise I wouldn’t recommend to do it as it may void your warranty.

Yes, I am able to boot into stock ROM without any issues.
Your picture shows stock-recovery. After rooting you should have CWM-recovery. So I suppose, that root failed. Test it in the ROM. If you haven't root-access, repeat rooting with CF-autoroot.
