Hi
Sorry if the post does not go here.
My question is simple. Im looking to install CM in my galaxy S2 through the Cyanogen Installer. My question is, if I install it with the official installer (which Ive read it should install CM 10.1.3) can I later update it to CM11 thorugh the updater without doing anything else?
Thanks in advanced
Having never used it I can't be sure.....
But one thing i DO know is that CM11 needs a different version of CWM to that needed by CM10.1 to install....
I would be surprised if CM Installer takes care of this for you.....
My wife says I'm a phone geek....She's probably right
Heheheh thats good to be a phone geek.
Ive read that the CM11 uses the new CWM thats why I doubted if the updater could work. But didnt know if the installer when install everything uses already the new CWM. Maybe someone already tried that.
Im using the stock 4.1 for now, but wanted to try the CM11 I really like the new features.
Thanks in advanced

Original message:
Hello folks,
I'm not exactly a total n00b but I've been a hardcore iPhone fan then entered the world of Android when I got my SGS2 a few months ago. I need some feedback here with flashing Cyanogenmod 7 or 9 (I WISH)
I have my At&t rooted with Zedomax kernel and Odin v1.85
Root functionality is all good, and "superuser" does everything I ask it to
Now, I had tried to flash the "Unnamed" Rom and it worked before... Then went bacl to stock (using the backup I had before)
Now... the problem is that getting Cyanogenmod (whether 7 or 9) has been a complete challenge, but I'm loving it and won't give up
I tried CM7 as well as CM9. Always get the error message below.
Please note that I had also tried everything alltogether while on the (Siyah-v2.6.11-att) which is great too. But same thing happens every time (below is the log)
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == "galaxys2"
.........and this line repeats then same exact line except it mentions "GT-I9100" like twice (2 lines) and same line again but "GT-I9100M" and then "GT-I900T"
Then last line in the log is E:Error in /sdcard/update....(mentions full path of zip file) then (status 7)
Something that might help is that I (unfortunately) updated my phone when At&t released this minor update back in December/early January... So my firmware is "UCKK6"
What exactly is causing this error?? If "Unnamed Rom" worked fine, then why is Cyanogenmod being stubborn??
Thanks for any help... Would really appreciate it
sounds to me like you are trying to flash the WRONG cm7....you need the one made for the phone, found in the dev section
First you really should get rid of Zedomax kernel and keep using Siyah or Entropy.
The kernel you are using is way outdated and I am sure Entropy can give you a dozen reasons why not to use it.
Second do not try flashing CM9, cause you won't have a functional phone if you do.
When flashing CM7 did you try flashing it twice before rebooting?

Was about to mention that as well, beat me to it.
Thanks Pirateghost.
I got the rom from the Cyanogenmod website, and it's the only stable mod for AT&T SGS2. So it's the right rom/mod.
But as I'm typing I'm downloading the latest nightly for AT&T and will give it a shot.

I hope your not getting this one - http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices/samsung-galaxy-s2
That is more than likely for the i9100 version.
Grab this one - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1471365
Next time check the development forums before flashing things.

W0W!!! So those mods on the official Cyanogenmod website for SGS2 are ONLY for non-U.S. model!!!!!! Thanks a bunch man!!
I went ahead and got the latest nightly mod (02012012) but it came back with "Can't open /sdcard/..... (bad) installation aborted"
Will try my luck with earlier nightlies, perhaps this zip (02012012) is corrupt.

i also had the same issue
To flasb CM7 and NOT get the get.prop error( which you will get coming from the siyah kernel and trying to update/or install CM7) download this kernel reverter/kernel cleaner http://db.tt/s6xToyVV MAKE SURE to put this kernelreverter/cleaner on your internal sdcard along with this newest build fojnd here of a CM7 KANG build https://s3.amazonaws.com/cyanogenmodbuild.s3.mortimer.me.uk/index.html
Then boot to recovery, choose the kernel reverter.zip and flash it, before rebooting then choose the newest updated nightly kang build and flash it, then reboot phone. Yoh should NO LONGER have an issue. ALSO MAKE SURE TO FLASH GAPPS if you want the market and other google apps like gmail etc.
Next if you want you can then reinstall siyah kernel over on top of the cm7 build. When you go to flash a NEWER nightly update then AGAIN flash the kernel reverter/cleaner then the newer update. If you are on the siyah kernel you will get the get.prop error if you DON'T flash the kernel reverter first.
Sent From My KickAss ATT SGS2 SPORTING CM7
THANKS A LOT RockRatt
For the tip, as well as the excellent tool "kernel reverter/cleaner"
It took care of the error, and installation went well.
Afterwards I was stuck with the CM7 boot loop, but searched and found a quick fix that took care of it - wiping /data once more after the actual install.
CM7 up and intact
Now, I will play around with tweaks and themes.
Can't wait for the first stable CM9 mod for i777.
its so weird i never had this problem but i look in the app store and its not in there. i tried installing it by installing it with an apk, but everytime i try to install one it says parsing error, i just want to install a recovery because i just got root on this phone im still on stock rom.
I replied on your other thread too, but next time if you do make the mistake of asking a question in General section, don't make a thread in the Q/A, just report your own post and a mod will move it (you won't get infractions etc.)
Anyways this was my reply
Not sure, but here is the direct downloaded ROM Manager (free)
http://www.mediafire.com/?523y13j76z66lb7
Thanks for the advice, ill admit im a noob at this,
im not used to threads like these, im more of a discussion thread person. But i replied
What version are you running of stock?
if you are running stock 2.1 try this OneClickLagFix any version even the old version works like a charm this will install the CWM on your system and then you wont need
rom manager no more as long as you dont have a 3e recovery this should work
I'm currently running SHOStock ICS ROM and I want to change it, but every time I try to flash the CM9 ROM in recovery mode, I get an error-
Installation aborted (Status 7). The first time it happened was after I installed the shostock rom (I had the cm9 before and had no problems installing it).
I tried to update CWM through ROM Manager, but it didn't solve the problem.
What can I do to fix it? I searched the forum but didn't find a solution..
Im not sure exactly how to fix that but I've always read that we should avoid Rom Manager on the i777. You might want to sheck the threads about Rom manager errors. I've flashed every rom out there and never used rom manager and never had any problems.
I used rom manager only to update CWM. I haven't installed any rom with rom manager.
last time i found that error with CM9 was because of the build.prop issue. Our phones run i9100 based ROM's alot, there's a line in the updaterscript that looks for phone model, must remove that **** outta there.
And i must say that CM9 sucks if they still have not addressed this well known issue.
Just flash AOKP.
O and, un install ROM manager, its for idiots.
Does this ROM fully support hebrew? (including menus)

Good question. I would say go ask in the AOKP thread, but you don't have enough posts to do that yet...I'll go ask for you. You can just go read the replies to my post.
Problem solved. I flashed AOKP and it worked (no error) ,but after that I flashed CM9 back (more comfortable for me), works perfect. Thanks for the help.
Well guys, I am a long time reader of the forum and have flashed just about every popular ROM I can find, but never posted before. Honestly I have been a little scared of posting questions because of how ruthless the 'veterans' can be on the noobs, but here I am. Anyway, so far I have stuck with JellyBeans 17 and LOVE it. I haven't had any issues at all till now. Since a few days ago, I keep getting a notification that there is an OTA update available, for Beans I am assuming. When I try to download/update, it does not happen even though my phone auto-reboots into recovery, flashes something, then auto-reboots the system.
Right now my OTA Updater is telling me there is an update available, and when I click to download this is what happens:
-Prompt to wipe cache, which I do, then click download
-Download meter appears (0/100) but never fills, then
-Reboots into TWRP (v2.5.0.0)
-Flashes something (update?)
-Reboots system
-Continues to prompt me that there is an update available in notification bar
Running JB17 and TWRP 2.5.0.0
Checking for updates in ROM Toolbox and GooMgr says NO updates available for me. Plus, the only compatible ROMs browsing 'finds' for me are CM, carbon, and liquidsmooth.
Questions:
Should I update TWRP to the latest (2.5.0.3)?
What is the deal with the OTA updater not functioning correctly? Should I not use this?
Thank you guys, and please take it easy on this gal . I learned my way around XDA and rooting by reading a ton of stuff and through trial and error. I may be a new poster, but I'm not so new to rooting and flashing ROMs. I am still learning all I can, and open to any and all suggestions. Totally addicted to customizing my Note2.
Since you are on beans, yes the OTA is for beans rom. It is nice that he included this for updating his rom, unfortunately there have been issues with it for the past few builds. If you want to update to the newest build, go to his rom thread and download b18. Then boot into recovery and flash b18. You don't need to update twrp to the newest version. Twrp 2.5.0.0 works just fine for it. For future reference, this should have been posted in beans rom thread

I wish I could have posted in the Beans thread, but since my post count is what it is, the forum will not allow me to until I hit 10. Sorry...
HI,
I have a galaxy player ( YP-G70CW - international ) that has had an Eryigit Rom installed for quite some time but it has never been very stable for me and constantly crashes and freezes! last week i decided enough was enough and i have decided to try some of the newer roms out now but for some reason i cant get anything to install from CWM recovery, i just get install aborted and error messages.
From Reading through the forum i have seen a few times that my ClockworkMod recovery v5.0.2.7 maybe outdated but cant find anyway to upgrade to Clockwork Mod v6.0.4.4 on the YP-G70....
Does this sound like my problem? is there an updated version of clockwork for the GP5.0? can any of the newer roms be installed by Odin? i have no issues installing things from Odin, should i be using Odin to upgrade to something else before i go to a 4.4 rom?
any help anyone can give me would be amazing, thanks in advance guys and girls

The thing that most people don't understand about recovery on the player 5.0 is that unlike a lot of other devices, recovery is in the kernel image. Ipso facto: flash a new kernel, get a new recovery.:good:
If your trying to get to KitKat, I suggest that you install an android 4.3.x ROM first. Make sure to read all of the dev's installation instructions and notes before flashing...:good:

Thanks very much for the reply, thats great information to have, I thought that would be the case but couldn't find anything in stone if you know what I mean.
anyways, no matter which kernel I install the CWM recovery seems to be the same, which kernel should I be installing, I have rj's custom kernel r14 right now, any suggestions?
Thanks again
