[Q] verizon 4.4.2 tether unlock - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I just got my phone which was mk2, and i updated to nc5 using muniz_ri
I545_MK2toNC5_KeepRoot_OTA.zip method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2749660 and i wanted to know if there a way to unlock verizon hotspot? Has anyone have any success unlocking it? I saw there was a thread with other tether apps, but Id like to be able to use hotspot. thanks again.

It works great - thanks!
But do you have any documentation of which files needed to be changed?
I ask because even though this framework-res.apk was probably extracted from an NC5 build, I don't know if the NC5 build in my phone is identical to yours (except for the specific modifications you did). Maybe mine has had some other "patches"/changes applied to it - so I don't know if I use your modified copy of the framework, will it undo/revert those patches/changes and cause any problems? Should I extract my original file and just make the changes to it that you did to yours?
I am a programmer, so I know what I am doing, it's just that I am not an expert with Android OS in every aspect, so my concern could be invalid.

Try to avoid it because it will most likely have roll-back protection and also there isn't any root as of this moment.

I'm not too worried
Will this be like the official verizon release? How far you guys think the official OTA is now?

Interesting. It will be nice to be on 4.4 and use of the apps that only work with that version (or work better with it).

Yeaahhh baby!!! It's about damn time Verizon gives us something.
I definitely won't be flashing this, it isn't worth losing root for the changes in 4.4, it really isn't that much of an upgrade.

It's possible to get a pre-rooted system.img with SS, install it, immediately reboot into download mode, install boot.img (kernel and ramdisk), modem, bootloader images, etc... then reboot. S4 guys did it. It's completely feasible for us. I can provide instructions for you to do this, but it may be somewhat verbose.
If we as a community are interested in seeing further leaks, I'd advise against uploading any mirrors of these files. The uploader has requested exclusivity. This seems like a fair trade-off to me.
Hey guys
Please please please
For the sake of development.....do not mirror this file at all. The individual responsible for the file does not want any mirrors uploaded.
Thanks for understanding.

I thought we can only install roms with Safestrap. Not even a kernal. How can this be accomplished through SS. Just curious, I'm not a developer.

Convert system.img.ext4 to img, extract contents, apply su/ss, create TWRP zip, safestrap to system, reboot into download mode, flash everything else using Heimdall except original system.img.ext4 since it's not rooted.

You also need files from cache.img.ext4 that ultimately end up in /system.
Has kingo been successful with any of the other KK N3 variants?

Your link has been shut down by drop box for too much traffic. Can you use androidfilehost.com?
I tried last night after the link got blocked the first time. I couldn't figure out androidfilehost. I think it's a daily thing with Dropbox so maybe try it tomorrow. Or maybe someone else can figure out how to host them elsewhere.

You can use Surges files from his thread to do the same thing. The directions are there too. I did not use the PIT file. Whenever I did that I got bad errors.

The new files gave me issues so I decided to upload the old files he posted that worked for me. I'm going to find another solution today for not being able to access the dropbox link.

Yea to be honest I am a little confused on what exactly I need to do to downgrade and then also with safestrap. I currently have an s5 but most likely I'm returning it because my friend gave me an s4. I've been reading up getting ready to root and everything but it seems there are different methods for downgrading so not sure what my best bet is...all I know is I am currently on NC5. From my understanding I have to downgrade..root..then go back to NC5 pre rooted and start with safestrap (however that's done) lol...I came from an s3 with an unlocked bootloader so this is all new to me ..any help would be appreciated
Sent from my SM-G900V using XDA Free mobile app
Just start out and download the downgrade file. If you need Odin I can upload that as well. Then you just put your phone in download mode. And put the downgrade file in the ap slot and click start. It will fail reboot the phone and then use the downgrade system file in the ap slot and it will complete. Then reboot the phone into recovery mode and wipe the cache and do a factory reset data wipe and you should now be on 4.3

Yes it's possible. You can go to the towelroot site on your phone and click the lamda to download the apk file. Then browse to that file on your phone, install and run.
Note: You will need to have install from unknown sources checked. It may prompt during the install to adjust that setting. Otherwise, you may need to do that before.

Glad you got it rooted. I'm still researching the custom rom option because everything I read says that any install of a custom recovery App will trip the knox counter. On my old AT&T S5 with a locked bootloader, I had Safestrap recovery installed which seemed to get around this issue and allow custom roms to be loaded without tripping knox.

Help needed: Ota verification issue

Hello, i am currently on 17.1.2.A.0.314, rooted with SuperSU with survival mode enabled. I get the update notification for 23.0.1.A.0.167, but when i download and try to install it, it says verification failed. I had recovery installed previously but i reflashed the stock firmware to remove it( i didn't wipe the data though), but still it says verification failed. Any help would be highly appreciated.
Thanks.

your rom has to match stock to be able to update
Any changes need to be removed (root, mods, Other stuff alike )

My rom is purely stock with no modifications at all except the root. Some people updated over the air and that saved the root, that's what i was trying to do too.

im not sure how they did it then :/
root counts as a modified system because you have the SU binary and superuser manager
As I told in another thread, OTA update with root is pure luck if everything went good and remain root.

You need to carry out an OTA upgrade for that to work not all carriers support OTA. And those that do may carry out checks that fail, try flashing stock UK (unbranded) .314 I know people who've had success with that one.

You might have to settle for avoiding 4.4.4 then, as I don't know how much effort devs are putting I into finding a new exploit when flashing a pre-rooted rom is so trivial.
Ok i'll try that, but if it fails too then i won't update to 4.4.4.

[Q] Able to flash ViPER4Android?

I was just wondering if I would be able to flash ViPER4Android on the stock Rom slot using Safestrap 3.75 A03
Just checking because I'm about 75% sure you can't flash zip files to the stock slot in safestrap
Better be safe than sorry
I'm running NC5 if that makes a difference
Thanks in advanced!
